Time for a book review!

The Project Horse by Natalie Keller Reinert

Genre: Contemporary/Equestrian Romance

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Spice: 🌶️

My favorite things:

Rating: 4 Stars

⭐️ This was fun! Very much “enemies to lovers” between Posey and Adam, but with all the horses 🐎♥️

⭐️ I enjoyed the Ocala setting, always brings me some nostalgia from my brief stay in the “horse heaven” years ago.

⭐️ I actually really like that this was only from Posey’s POV. I really felt like as a reader, I got to uncover the “holes” of the past with her as she unraveled the full story of what happened with the Salazar’s and the Malone’s.

⭐️ I also really enjoyed Posey’s relationship with her mom.

⭐️ There were all the enemies to lovers and second chance romance vibes here with a nice touch of heat, still bringing the chemistry but keeping it on the low heat end. If you enjoy romance and Thoroughbreds, pick this book up!

“And you thought you would take it upon yourself to go behind me to see to our captive’s welfare?” he asked, his tone mocking as he raised his brows.

“She’s of no use to you if she’s dead.”

“She is apparently no use to me alive.” Lorcan let out a disgusted snort. “I knew of your ties to Castle Clogwyn, but I was not aware that they ran so deep.” He shrugged one shoulder. “But no matter. All men have their weaknesses. Luckily for you, I know just the way to break you of yours.”

I dared to look up and the hatred I saw in his eyes made my stomach churn.

“I don’t have any more use for liars than I do for cowards,” Lorcan said with a sneer. “You should count yourself lucky for that mark you bear, otherwise I might have just had you killed when Dara found the salves and treatments on the girl. Myfanwy was quick to confess the truth of your little visits. But I’m a decent man. I’m going to give you a second chance.”

My heart pounded in my ears and it took everything in me not to look away. “What must I do?”

“You are going to kill her,” Lorcan answered with a cold smile.

My chest hitched. “Cadfael still has four days—”

“And I grow tired of waiting. You will kill her, tonight, and then I will send her dead body to Cadfael to show him that I am not a man to be ignored.”

King’s Captive by K.M. Shea

Series: Gates of Myth and Power Book 1

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance

My favorite things:

⭐️ So this was fun! If you’re looking for a light urban fantasy read with a hint of mystery, this one is worth checking out.

⭐️ I was very intrigued & enjoyed how KM Shea worked Chloe’s cat shifting abilities into the story, especially she weaved it in with Noctus’ character arc.

⭐️ I personally haven’t read a lot of cat shifter books, so this felt fun & unique to me. I would definitely look for more books like this in the future!

⭐️ No spoilers, but the ending was an excellent balance of some questions answered, but a lot of questions still unanswered, which definitely has me looking forward to Book 2!

True to his word, Bran had his back to me when I walked up. He was, however, still missing his shirt. I tried not to stare, truly, I did, but it was a futile effort. My steps slowed and I was intimately aware that my childhood friend was no longer a boy.

My gaze traveled across his well-muscled back, lingering on the black tattoo that was square between his shoulder blades. It was almost identical to the one that ran across my own collarbone, including the wolf’s head at its center. The tattoos were the marks of our giftings, given to us by the Spirits when our powers manifested. The longer I stared at Bran, the more my thoughts continued to wander and I felt the sudden urge to run my hands over his bare skin, perhaps even see what it would feel like to press my lips to his.

I shook my head, blinking rapidly. I hadn’t been prone to such fantasies for years, but Bran’s presence seemed determined to bring such thoughts out of me. As if he sensed me staring, he twisted around to face me and I could feel my cheeks heating, along with the back of my neck.

“Were you planning on getting fully dressed?” I sputtered, hating how my face felt like it was on fire.

“Just trying to dry off all the way,” he said, picking his shirt up off his lap and pulling it over his head.

“Right,” I replied, clearing my throat and hoping he didn’t catch the breathiness that had overtaken my voice.

Book review time!

Shield-Maiden: Gambit of Shadows by Melanie Karsak

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Epic Historical Fantasy

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

My favorite things:

⭐️ I am very much enjoying Ervie’s story and this next installment brought plenty of action, adventure, and all the magical Viking vibes.

⭐️ Having read the previous Sheild-Maiden serious, I’ve been loving all the return of beloved characters and all the ties into the first series, really makes for an enjoyable read.

⭐️ Trying not to give away spoilers here, but this book is action packed (and heart-breaking at times as well). The ending in particular was a roller coaster of a ride and I am very much eager to see how Erivie’s story develops and what will become of the threat of Hlod.

⭐️ The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the love triangle. I’m not someone who dislikes them, but I just wasn’t wild about it and how it played out in this book (I am very much still Team Ormar 😆). That being said, I am absolutely going to be reading the next installment!

Niall’s heart pounded at the thought of walking away from her, given all the ways the night could come to a horrific end. Giving into his impulses, he pulled her into an embrace. For a brief moment, she was stiff in his arms before she relaxed into him. She slid her arms up around his back and his chest ached, a painful lump forming in the back of his throat as he held her close. There was something right about the feel of her body pressed against his and he rested his chin on top of her head, reluctant to let her go. How he longed to hold her in his arms forever.

“Be careful,” he told her as he forced himself to ease away from her. “Bleddyn changed after Enfys left him and Mother died. He’s not what you may think.”

She let out a shaky breath, giving him a sad smile. “I know that now. I’ll see you tonight.”

“Tonight,” he repeated, giving her a solemn nod before she turned and walked back down the gravel and shell path that led back to the castle.

A particularly strong wind gust caused him to shiver as he watched her disappear from view. Bringing a shaky hand to his head, he stared down at the toes of his boots, still trying to grapple with the realization that his own flesh and blood meant him harm. He dreaded to think what their mother would think of her sons if she could see them now.

Her pulse raced and she felt her lips unconsciously part. “I am not leaving.”

He met her gaze, a yearning look in his eyes as he lowered his head. Rhiannon held her breath as he pressed a kiss to her lips.
