“I heard they opened a cafe nearby like 6 months ago and my mum said they serve really nice coffee. So you guys wanna go there?” Chan asked

The boys all agreed. The cafe was only two blocks away. The men dressed themselves in lowkey attires so they wouldn't draw attention to themselves.

Chan was the one to lead the crowd. They all chit chatted on the way. Laughing and having a good conversation. Chan felt warm. It's been a while since he ever felt something. He was happy that the guys were here.

“so hyung how does it feel being halfway through 64 years old?” Seungmin asked.

“I swear seungmin you'll be the death of me.” Chan says laughing and rolling his eyes.

They finally reached the cafe. It was a beautiful and aesthetic cafe like the ones they show you in the movies. “Big hug mugs” were written in italic letters boldly.

Chan was immediately taken back to his channie’s room days. He smiled to himself.

“The owner must be a fan of you, Chan.” Minho jokes.

Chan pushed the glass door open and took in the interior of the cafe.

“Welc- ….. Chan?” Glass shattering sound was heard throughout the cafe.

“Y/n?”

You sit across Chan while the other guys sit two tables away two tables away from your eyes.

Silence. No one says a word.

“So… how are you?” You ask.

“How am I? You leave without a word and I meet you after a year and you ask me how am I? How do you think I'm doing?”

“I had my reasons. Okay? I was only trying to protect you.”

“Protect me how?”

“If I had continued to be there. And if you had kept getting caught with me your fame would've been spoiled. And I needed a change. I needed to get away from it.”

“But you could've at least told me about it.” A pause. “ I searched for you, y/n. Like a dog that lost its owner I searched for you. I waited for you to come back and you never did.”

“Chris, I'm so sorry. I-”

“You don't have to say sorry. You did what you had to. I understand it's just..”

“It's just?”

“Nothing. So why out of all places here? Australia?” Chan asked curiously.

How do you explain it's because of him?

“Umm it's because of… you” you mumble the last part so he wouldn't hear you.

“So what would you like to drink?” you said, switching into work mode.

You served them all their orders and sat back down with Chris.

“It suits you.” Chan said.

“What?”

“This life. Cafe girl kinda life. It suits you.”

“Thank you.”

“I listened to your new album. You guys literally ATE down with that.”

“I see what you did there.” Chan smiled.

After the small chat, once the beverages were over. The group stood up to leave. Chan pulled out his card to pay.

“On the house. You don't have to pay. Oh wait I completely forgot. Happy Birthday Chan. Hope all your wishes come true.” you said and hugged him. You grabbed a tissue and wrote down your number. And handed it to Chris. “This is my number. You can totally throw it away if you don't wanna stay in touch. I understand…”

“Y/n, I'll call you later” he said interrupting your rant.

With a smile on his face he turned away and walked out of the cafe with the guys.

Chapter 10: letting you go

*Nearly a year later*

29th September 2024:

“Chan hyung, are you all packed?” Seungmin asked, standing by the door.

“Ah? Yes. Yes. I'm all packed.” Chan replied.

“This is a very much needed escape for you. You know that right?” Minho said.

“All these days and months you've been shutting yourself in writing songs about her and not releasing anything.” Jeongin continued.

‘I think you should just move on from her. It's been a year. She's not coming back.” han said.

“Yeah guys I know. Trust me I've moved on from her. I don't think about her or anything like that. I'll miss you guys. See you in a month.” Chan said, dragging his suitcase out the door.

“We will miss you too, hyung.” Jeongin said.

Chan boarded on his flight to Australia. He was gonna meet his family after a long time. He needed this break very much. A distraction from everything. He claims that he wasn't in love and had moved on from her. But he has a journal dedicated to her full of songs that no one gets to hear.

Chan closed his eyes and fell asleep for the flight ride.

3rd October, 2024:

Today was Chan’s birthday. But he wasn't really feeling like celebrating it. He woke up and walked out his room. He sleepily sat on the couch. No one was around in his sight.

“Mom? Dad?” He called out. Where could they have gone? “Hannah? Lucas?”

He sighed and closed his eyes slowly drifting off to sleep again.

“Surprise!!!!!” Felix shouted coming out of nowhere. Chan jerked awake. The whole stray kids guys were there along with Chan's family.

“Happy Birthday to you…. Happy Birthday to you” they all sang. Changbin had a cake with candles lit up in his hands.

Chan smiled at the sweet gesture.

“You guys didn't have to.” Chan said.

“Make a wish and blow out the candle.” Hannah said.

Chan closed his eyes for a moment and wished for your happiness. He wished wherever you were and he hoped you were happy. He opened his eyes and blew out the candle.

“What do you mean she is not in her apartment?” Changbin asked.

“He means that she is not in her apartment.” Han replied sarcastically.

“Obviously. But shut up both of you. This is serious stuff.” Minho said. “Did you try calling her?”

“I did. It goes straight to her voicemail. Where could she have gone? I'm going to try to come in contact with her agency.”

“Yeah I think that's a good idea.” Felix said, sitting from the couch.

“Sir, I understand your concern but we've been trying to reach her too. But we are unable to.” The manager spoke on the call.

“Okay thank you.” Chan ended the call and melted down. He was so worried about you. Where did you go? Did you just abandon him and everyone?

A Few days later after you disappeared. The media was set on fire about your mysterious disappearance. No one knew where you were. The rumours of you being a homewrecker died down. People started to theorise your disappearance. It varies from extreme to normal theories. Some said you ran away from your problem. Some said you retired from acting and settled down in Australia as a cafe owner/ barista. Same said you were kidnapped by someone and you were killed off.

Nothing made sense to Chan. He has known you only for a few days and he missed you terribly. Everyone told him to get over it and told you aren't coming back. But something told him. You'll be back to him.

Your house was on the second floor of the building. You guys took the lift. You both were silent but there was no awkwardness. You couldn't keep your eyes off him. And he kept sneaking looks at you too.

When you reached your door you entered the password to your house and entered along with Chan.

You offered the couch for Chan to sit down.

“You want some … beer?” you said as you took the beer bottle out of the fridge. You had only alcoholic beverages in your fridge. You ran out of milk and coffee. There was nothing else to provide to the guest.

“Isn't it too early for beer?”

“Not when you are an alcoholic.” you joked. Chan chuckled.

“Let's drink.”

3 beer bottles in, you and Chan were starting to get a bit tipsy.

“And then I was dancing on my bed very badly like in a sexy way you know and my mom came in. and it was so embarrassing for me. She rushed down and told my dad everything and they won't stop bringing it up each and every time we have dinner or lunch together.” you narrated your memory to Chan and he was listening with so much attention.

“You are so cute.” he said out of the blue.

You were lying on the floor while he was tickling you. You managed to grab him and turn you guys around so that he was on the floor lying. You grabbed his hands and pinned his hand above his head. You both were closer than you guys should be. One wrong move and your lips would be on his.

“We shouldn't.”

Your mouth might be speaking of something but your heart and lips wanted something else. You leaned in and kissed him. He kissed you back. His soft lips moved against yours.you let go of his hands and grabbed his shirt

“Wait wait. What happens after this?” Chan asked, breaking away from the kiss.

“I have no idea. I mean I can't afford love or relationships in the condition I am in. You even being my friend will do a lot of damage to you.”

Chan didn't wanna lose you. He knew if he walks away from here he will lose everything with you. He just wanted to enjoy the rest of his life with you but it doesn't seem possible.

“We dont have to be in a relationship. Let's just roll with the flow. Shall we?” he asked and you nodded your head agreeing with him.

He pulled you back in the kiss. You deepened the kiss and your hand was tangled in his hair. His hands were under your hoodie tracing your back. You felt the butterflies in your stomach. There were fireworks and everything. You tear open his shirt and pull away from the kiss to look at him.

“Oops , sorry.” you said breathing heavily.

“You are not sorry.” he retorted back. A Few seconds in and all your clothes were scattered on the floor. Chan put you up on his shoulders and carried you to your bed. you pulled open your bedside drawer. You picked a condom. You ripped the cover open between your teeth.

“Damn you are sexy as fuck.” he said.

“Stop talking.” you said jokingly.

“Yes, ma’am.”
