After I posted Cenizas en el Mar, a year ago, I knew I wanted to give them something happy, to let them live that wonderful dream they had, to share that precious moment together. This is sort of my atonement, but more than anything, this is just as personal as the fic was, a little piece infused with my own grief.

You never stop missing a person, and as long as you feel it, as long as they live in your memory, they’re not truly gone.

Some days may be tranquil, while others, out of nowhere, grief strikes and leaves you as vulnerable as the first time you felt those words ringing in your ears.

I’ve come to realize I like writing little stories about two things: Death, the unstoppable force of nature; and the ocean, mighty, alluring, unpredictable and cruel. In all honesty, they’re essentially the same.

I hope I let more things flow that way. It’s been a good way to channel it.

Siphonophore mermaid Kni

This is what I have to offer for this year’s Mermay. More thoughts below.

So I suddenly had the idea of mermaid Knives with some siphonophore elements, partly inspired by his design in Tristamp, and partly inspired by the idea of these colonial creatures fitting with the narrative in Trimax, with Knives protecting his sisters in his very own way.

It wasn’t exactly my intention to make it resemble cyanotypes, but oh well, these things happen with plants.

I’m hoping to revisit this very last minute design some time in the future, maybe by making some rendered art.
