Heir of Ashes Chapter 28

The writer's block from hell is officially over. An important chapter, really a massive turning point, but it gave me a lot of trouble trying to wrangle dialogue to where it needed to be. This is one I imagine will have heavy edits in the future, but I need to be done for now so I can continue and not stagnate.

In this chapter, Dante and Bea update Eric and Virgil on recent events, catching them in a private moment. A cascade of spilled beans occurs, and tension breaks and the new connection between Eric and Virgil makes secret-keeping an impossibility.

In the end, a plan is made, and decisions that will impact Murkwell are close on the horizon as the four witches plot against the necromancer.

Heir of Ashes has hit 80,000 words! Had a lengthy writer's block as work stress increased and had some decisions to make about the next chapter, but we are back on the 500-words-a-day horse, hopefully.

Very excited to release chapter 27! This chapter includes a scene that I've been picturing since the story was first conceived, and I'm very hopeful I did it justice.

In this chapter, days have passed, and the harvest cycle has begun, but Dante still waits to see what the necromancer's next move will be. Meanwhile, Virgil and Eric continue to grow closer as they search for a way to save Virgil's soul.

In this chapter, Dante and Bea struggle to talk about what happened the night before. Bea tells the other conduits that Dante has lost hope, while Eric and Virgil grow closer.

Meanwhile, Bea and Dante try to connect over their recent troubles, but the underlying tension makes the interaction more stressful than cathartic.

In this chapter, we catch up with Bea, Dante, and Virgil after a few days have passed. Bea has a plan that may cause trouble for her father, Dante is pulled in two directions, and Virgil, who has all but given up on the idea of freedom, makes a shocking admission.

In this chapter Dante deals with the aftermath of a public attack, Bea confronts her father and announces a dramatic change, and Virgil and Sierra deal with their grief. Or not deal, as it were.

It's been a while, since I've struggled with motivation, but slowly building myself back to the 500 words a day goal. I believe a problem was that I was getting to the parts I had not planned out as completely (a good problem to have).

In this chapter, the witches of Murkwell hold their second crisis meeting in as many months, as they struggle to find a way to deal with Adrian's threat. As Virgil and Sierra mourn their brother's death, Bea considers using the opportunity to help her brother's isolation.

Adrian makes himself known and presents demands. The witches of Murkwell struggle to deal with this threat, and one makes a fatal misstep.

Part 2 starts off with a band as we skip a month to the solstice party. We catch up on how relationships and the town's situations have changed in this time, and Dante gets to address the town's witches as conduit for the first time.

Watch out for the ending though, as a surprise guest may lead to more dramatic events in Chapter 18
