I'm just wondering if I could be autistic?

Socially: I feel rather confused if, for example, someone is sighing but saying "I'm fine, I'm happy." I sometimes miss sarcasm unless it's said in a sarcastic tone (for example, a few weeks at work, someone said "We're the most fun team!" and I commented "I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not." Everyone cracked up). I've been told I 'don't lack a filter' (another time, when leaving one workplace, my co-worker said "You just say what everyone else is thinking." but then laughed, not sure if that means it's a good thing?) I can't imagine someone ever flirting or hinting they like me, I don't think I'd understand. I'm good with tone of voice and guessing what someone means. But because of my blindness, I struggle with body language. When I was younger, there were a few times I would be corrected for not making eye contact - I was low vision at the time. I never got bullied but I've always been 'quirky' and never fit in/understood the mainstream crowd. I was very interested in emo subculture growing up. Now, I listen to music like Kamelot and Ghost (Sweden). I got into EDM like Illenium when I met my partner, but lately been more into metal again. I dress girly but don't care about trends (for example, I like dresses from Dangerfield, which I guess is mainstream but quirky). Repetitive movements: I don't remember doing these growing up. Now I'm blind, I sometimes tend to rock slightly if I'm talking while a bit nervous. I also pick my skin, I don't know if that counts. Special interests: I don't think I've really had these, but I did like things that weren't age-appropriate like pre-school shows at 10-11 years old. Routines: I guess to some extent I have these, but not to the point of getting overly upset. I have pretty much the same nightly routine and if I can't do that, I get antsy and worried I can't sleep. Certain drinks go in certain mugs but doesn't everyone do that? I don't like change (too scared to move interstate because I don't want to leave my supports behind) Sensory: I have some sensory differences but they're not the end of the world, I can manage them. For example, fire and smoke alarms are painful, the sounds of lawnmowers and whippersnippers make me irrationally angry. I remember flickering fluro lights making me nauseous and dizzy but I'm sure that's normal. I struggle in crowded areas with lots of noise, like crowded restaurants. I struggle to hear in those situations and it's embarrassing for people to be like "oh, I have hearing issues too" when my hearing comes back normal in tests. I don't like crop/tight shirts but tags/socks don't irritate me. I can be a bit picky about my food but not at the same time, I can enjoy trying new things and I like stronger flavours rather than things like butter pasta.

fighting ableism isn’t about refuting the idea that we’re disabled at all

“autistic people aren’t incapable!! look at me, i’m autistic and i can function exactly like an abled person!! everyone should be like me” isn’t anti ableist. you’re taking the stereotype from one end of the spectrum and moving it to the other and that helps no one

the answer to “disabled people who can’t contribute to society are worthless” isn’t “all disabled people can do things if they try hard enough”. it’s “everyone inherently has worth just by being alive”
