just finished the episode. I was right. nothing like JCH’s Derek
but he was fucking miserable and suffered from erectile dysfunction. he should’ve been in the terror
if I had a nickel for every time I’d gained a new favourite actor from a piece of media about the royal navy during the age of sail where he plays a character called Tom and then found out that he’s also played a character called Derek who’s last name ends with -ing in season 10 episode 1 of a popular long-running period drama tv show I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
#he shouldn’t have been getting cucked#he should’ve been dying prettily of scurvy in the arctic#apologies#last reblog i promise#go about your business

I’ve watched one (1) of James’ scenes in the Poirot episode and I can safely say that his Derek has only one parallel with JCH’s and that is that they’re both married

Does he have ridiculous sideburns? Does he die a gruesome death? Is he on screen less than ten minutes total?
I spent a full day making this "Guess who? (is stuck)" The Terror game! Inspired by countless conversations about how hard it is to tell these dudes apart on first watch (and endless shitpost ideas with @merlintintintin ) This was honestly a lot of work, and now I really want to play it! I hope you'll find this cool, I'm personally really happy with the result! Would you play it?
I added Silna because I feel like the two boards kinda represent Terror & Erebus, and she's stuck here with these horrible dudes. Definitely more of a thematic easter egg rather than practical gameplay choice ahah.
To make this I bought a My Little Petshop Guess Who game (I liked the colors) second hand, took forever to cut out all the characters and color grade the pictures on photoshop (this serie is SO DARK, i'm thankful for the official pictures by Aidan Monaghan I also used), made the cards backing mostly using some designs I had already made, and then printed and cut the whole thing by hand!
I may share the template for this later on, if anyone is interested!

Since I've watched To The Ends of the Earth, I've been kind of obsessed with this one quote from episode 3:
"Why are we such creatures that a few sentences of an angry man should matter more than the prospect of death?”
These words are said by First Lieutenant Charles Summers who is a good, kind man stuck with a captain and a crew who do not like him because he worked his way up through the ranks rather than relying on privilege to get his position. He is isolated on the ship, his opinions and suggestions constantly ignored and dismissed by his captain and I cannot help but draw parallels to Edward Little from The Terror.
Granted, their situations are not quite the same (despite both their captains being played by Jared Harris) but the similarities of the position they find themselves in are hard to ignore. I keep thinking about Little saying something along the lines of the above-mentioned quote to someone (Jopson, perhaps) after Crozier orders him back out into the cold to get more whiskey.
Just imagine for a moment:
Little with the frost on his cheek not even melted yet donning his greatcoat again to get back up on deck only to be stopped on his way by Jopson who's overheard Crozier's orders as he overhears most things and now begs him not to go. "I cannot disobey the captain, Jopson," Little tells him, almost apologetically. He pauses before he adds, speaking more to himself than to Jopson, "Why are we such creatures that a few sentences of an angry man should matter more than the prospect of death?” And with that thought out in the open he leaves, vanishing into the white darkness.
I have no doubt that Little would have followed Crozier's order against his better judgment if Fitzjames hadn't arrived and the situation hadn't escalated the way it did. And I wish we had seen him get angry over it as he does in the script because that's what Summers's scene is all about: him voicing his anger at being treated so unfairly by his captain. Little deserved to have a reaction to Crozier's callous treatment of him too and I will forever be sad that that moment got cut.
#literally so happy to have found a post talking about this#that i don’t even care that it hurts#to the ends of the earth#charles summers#edward little

Introducing: Terror Camp Polar Parties!
Terror Camp’s main event will always be online and free to attend for anyone. But the joy of real-life community is something powerful, irreplaceable, and more important than ever.
So with your help, we want to celebrate Terror Camp all over the world in person this December, as well as online!
What are Polar Parties?
Along with official events in New York and London (to be announced), our dream is to have a full calendar of regional Terror Camp meetups happening during the conference weekend (December 5-7, 2025).
But we can’t do it alone. We need YOU, Terror Campers around the world, to get involved in organizing and hosting each event!
What kind of event?
Here are some ideas:
Picnic or park meetup (if your part of the world will have good weather in December!)
Pub or bar meetup
Group dinnee
House party
Museum meetup
Fancy gala or soiree
Or a combination of any of the above!
Also, your event could definitely include an in-person watchalong of Terror Camp livestream programming (but that’s not a requirement).
Where do I sign up?
Please fill out this form if:
you want to volunteer to organize a Terror Camp Polar Party for your city or region on December 5, 6, or 7, or:
you would attend an event in your city or region but are unable to take on the responsibility of hosting.
Once you’ve registered your interest in hosting a Polar Party, along with your location, we’ll list your event (even if date and place is TBD) and contact info on our site, so that other Campers in your region can get involved.
We encourage you to find co-hosts and partner up. We’d also really love it if you teamed up with local museums or institutions!
If you have any questions, or want guidance on how to organize an event, please reach out to [email protected].
We’re so excited to celebrate with you across the world! ❄️🌐✨
xoxo Terror Camp Command

d’you know what I’m noticing about all of this royal navy boat media set during the French Revolution / Napoleonic wars? that whatever these men are keeping their hair up with needs to be looser. it needs to fall out during battles so we can bear witness to the full and complete beauty of them
#and yes i know that having your hair flowing and probably in your face during a battle is impractical#but JUST ONCE#PLEASE#i need this#tarra speaks#imagine it#flowing in the wind#framing his beautiful face#falling over his shoulders#the gracefulness of its movement every time he turns around#barking#tagging this#master and commander#and#hornblower#bc you already know that’s what i’m talking about
