hi. seeing a lot of things about the recent ruling in the uk and a lot of it is misinfo (thanks in part to horrifically inaccurate media reporting) so i wanted to clear a couple of things up so everyone's criticising and fighting against the actual issue instead of a misrepresented one.

trans women with a gender recognition certificate are still legally considered women under the gender recognition act 2003 which hasn't been touched in this ruling.

this ruling was specifically about the equalities act 2010. this act basically served to compile and update previous, older acts that revolve around anti-discrimination.

the purpose of the ruling was to clarify whether the people who came up with the equalities act 2010 meant woman (as defined in the gender recognition act 2003, including trans women) or woman (based on assigned sex at birth, not including trans women). they ruled in favour of the latter, mostly on the basis that transgender is specified as a protected characteristic in other acts.

the court was very specific to clarify that this wasn't to rule whether trans women are women, and that this shouldn't be taken as a victory for either side. that last statement is kind of obvious bullshit because it's still bad for trans women. there's a reason british terfs are celebrating right now. it affords less rights and protections for trans women simply for being a different type of woman.

all this being said, "the uk courts ruled that trans women aren't women", "the uk courts ruled that being a woman is based on sex", and other similar statements are - at the time of writing this (because i don't put it past them for the future) - misinformation. the issue isn't that they ruled that trans women aren't women, the issue is that trans women are now offered less rights and protections as cis women.

hi 👋 sorry i haven't been active, i've been lurking but i haven't had anything of my own worth posting recently and then got irrationally worried it was too long since i last posted to come back. which is a logical and reasonable fear (it's not). going to put together my next palestinian mutual aid post and answer a few asks then i'll be back 👍

I do think with news of the ceasefire, everyone should read up on what the ceasefire actually means and what the different phases of the ceasefire are. here's a good source for what we know as of now:

Some of my initial takeaways are:

this ceasefire is temporary (as of right now, six weeks long). negotiations will continue but israel is not offering guarantees about continued non-violence. BDS remains important. be vigilant, keep pressure up

rafah crossing will open one week after the initial phase starts

israel will release 2000 prisoners

more aid will get to northern gaza, look out for ways you can help

if the second phase is initiated, israel will do a complete withdrawal from gaza. which means the initial phase will not include that. again i say: BE VIGILANT

if the third phase is reached, reconstruction will begin "under international supervision"

nothing is over, even if this is a relief. do not tape out, do not tune out.

Hamas had agreed to a deal in the very beginning of all this but biden prolonged their unnecessary suffering. Biden and Israel killed the baby who died in the cold, the child looking for food, the father who was getting flour, the men and women running outdoor kitchens for thousands, the teachers, the students who never got to graduate, the couple that never got to have their wedding, to the freedom fighters killing iof shitheads posting their atrocities and without whom the zionists would have never come to a ceasefire deal, glory to all of our martyrs.
