celebs speaking out against pornography
Kanye West: Playboy was my gateway into full-on pornography addiction. My dad had a Playboy left out at age five, and it’s affected almost every choice I made for the rest of my life, from age five to now having to kick the habit. And it just presents itself in the open, like it’s okay. And I stand up and say, “You know, it’s not okay.”
Billie Eilish: I’m so angry that porn is so loved, and I’m so angry at myself for thinking that it was okay. As a woman, I think porn is a disgrace. I used to be like the person that would like talk about porn all the time. I’d be like, “Oh, it’s so stupid that anybody would think that porn is bad or [cuts out] up. I think it’s so cool. It’s great.” I think it really destroyed my brain, and I feel incredibly devastated that I was exposed to so much porn.
Chris Rock: One of the things about that I’ve done in the last whatever year, not just going to therapy, I’ve kind of gotten off social media. I got off all social media. I don’t watch pornography anymore. I’m like, my brain is like “Ahh.” Like, I’m focused, man. Now, so, a lot of stuff on YouTube or, what is it, Instagram, I got like a company that puts that stuff out.
Russell Brand: We’re living in this culture now where there’s just icebergs off filth floating through every house on Wi-Fi. It’s inconceivable what it must be like to be a young adolescent now with this kind of access to porn. I know that pornography is wrong, that I shouldn’t be looking at it. There’s a general feeling, isn’t there, in your core, if you look at pornography, that this isn’t what’s the best thing for me to do.
Rashida Jones: I wrote this article for Glamour magazine where I was highly critical of how, like, how naked everybody is publicly right now, from pop stars, to kind of reality stars, whatever. I’m more concerned the very young fans of these girls who just emulate them, and, you know, the reason that these girls feel like this is a viable option, as the thing to do when you turn 18 and you leave high school. It’s because, culturally, porn is mainstream now.
Terry Crews: You know, for years, years, years, my dirty little secret was that I was addicted to pornography, for years. It’s kind of crazy because this thing has become a problem. I think it’s a worldwide problem, but pornography, it really, really, messed up my life in a lot of ways. Some people deny it. They say, “Hey man, you can’t really be addicted to pornography. There’s no way.” But I’m going to tell you something, if day turns into night, and you are still watching, you probably got a problem. And that was me. It affected everything. I didn’t tell my wife. Didn’t tell my friends, nobody knew. But the internet allowed that secret to stay and grow.
My wife was literally like, “I don’t know you anymore. I’m outta here.” That changed me. I had to change because I realized, “Yo, this thing is a major, major problem.” I literally had to go to rehab for it.” And the thing what I found was that by not telling people, it becomes more powerful, but when you tell, and when you put it out there in the open, just like I’m doing right now, to the whole world, it loses its power. And everybody wants you to keep this little secret. I’m telling, and I’m putting it out there. I’ve been free of this thing going on six, seven years now. Thank goodness. But now, it’s become my battle to help other people who are going through the same thing.
Pamela Anderson: I’m concerned about porn addiction. I think it’s affecting relationships. You know, when you have a woman lying in bed in lingerie, and you’re in the bathroom looking at a computer, something’s wrong, you know? There’s so much access, and I’m worried about that for young people. People need more and more to get aroused, and I think it’s leading to violence against women, rape, child abuse. I really think it has something to do with that. And I think we really have to start thinking about what we’re doing as people, how we’re imprinting ourselves. What we’re watching, what we’re doing, what we’re eating, what we’re wearing. It all builds our character. And it’s really important to just have the conversation.
Kirk Franklin: There’s an anger that rises up in me. And I got evangelically ticked off about the fact that I wish somebody would have taught me a long time ago the repercussions of sex and flesh and lust and vanity and pride and ego. I wish somebody would have been holding my little behind accountable years ago. If I have been set free from this one, anybody can, because for years, I even questioned, “Could I get free from this?”
Jordan Peterson: The typical porn actress, not the amateurs, but the professionals, have their sexually provocative physical elements exaggerated. And so, men are very visual, in terms of their sexual processing, and so, you know, the guys are pulled into it, and they’re pulled into it also by curiosity, but I think that ethically, it’s not good. It’s not good.
Jada Pinkett Smith: Back in the day, porn for my generation started in magazines, and then you had to like go to a CD store to get a VHS store. We didn’t have access to it like that. You had to like really go on an adventure to go see some pornography, whereas for your generation, it’s on your phone. It’s porn in your pocket.
Mike Tyson: I don’t have a phone, ‘cause my phone is my lower self. I might look at porn, so I’m conscious of my lower self, so I know I don’t need a phone. I want to conquer the world, and I know I can’t conquer the world unless I conquer myself. I don’t live my life right all the time, but when I have something, when I desire something, I have to clean my life up. God won’t bless me if I’m dirty. If I’m cheating on my wife. If I’m doing something disrespectful to my family. He won’t bless me.
Joe Rogan: Here’s a big one. Why are these girls doing this? Okay, here’s something that people don’t like to admit that enjoy porn. The vast majority of them have been molested. The vast majority. Some study they did on girls who get into porn, who’ve been sexually abused, mentally abused, and physically abused–it was overwhelming. It was overwhelming.
Gary Wilson: The truth is real life isn’t like those simplistic fantasies that you see in a pornography clip. . . You really have to replace porn with other activity. You have to just get away from the computer and do other things. I personally don’t want to have to be afraid to be aroused. I’d rather connect with my wife and get my arousal that way.
Trip Lee: It’s coming to a point where if I talk to a young man about his life, whether somebody my age, or somebody younger, or maybe a little bit older. I’m not at all surprised to hear that there’s some kind of struggle with porn. And I would be shocked if I met a young man who hasn’t had a struggle with it at some point, because it’s just so easily accessible, and it’s so damaging to our souls. . . It’s a unique sin, even unique to other sexual sins, because you don’t at this point have to go anywhere to indulge in it. You don’t have to make a long series of bad decisions to fall into it. It can just be very easy in your pocket at any moment.

the lowest grade I've ever gotten at university is a B, and that was on my most severely procrastination-brained, low effort given, under prepared assignment. I have never once gotten lower than a B on any single assignment/exam/class and I don't plan on it happening anytime soon. I mentioned before that I treat academia like a sport. It's something that I literally train for and give it the effort that an athlete would. B's are F's in my mind bc I know that I am capable of getting A's if I put forth A-student effort and training. I have a lot of school related asks to go through when I get some time for them and I'm gonna help y'all out with a nice long 'study like 2pretty' masterpost. we do beauty AND brains around here, I can't have y'all falling behind!

What are some things you do to that show your your girly cuteness side? :) Obviously if it is forced it will be clear to everyone, but I am just wondering what worked for you.
I twirl my hair, I wear long sleeves so I can have sweater paws, I giggle a lot, give people little pats and hugs, clap my hands when I'm happy, cover my mouth in a cute way when I laugh, hum to myself and bop my head, pout and make a little whimper noise, put my hands on my hips and go "hmph!", sensor my words instead of cursing or using crass language, make a shocked face if someone curses around me, wear lots of pink 24/7 and also dresses and skirts, if i'm at a table or desk I'll put my hands up to my chin/cheeks and look at whoever is talking with big baby eyes, I'll say something flirty and then smile and look down in a shy manner, etc etc !

How to Get Paid For Pt. 1
Being paid for is a sweet courtesy by acquaintances and interests. I personally don’t have enough experience to discuss dating or hypergamy, but I’ve had my fair share of being paid for.
Dress for yourself first and the audience you’d like to appeal to second. Your personal style should be alluring but not sexual and flattering. Your look should play up your sex appeal and entice others into doing favors for you. What I’m saying for this first tip is to look cute and hot at the same time. If you’re looking to be paid for in an affluent neighborhood, don’t dress how you do in a regular neighborhood. They may see you as a goddess in your neighborhood, but blend into the background in affluent.
Don’t be too sweet. If you’re all giggles and cotton candy clouds when a guy approaches, he may not see you the same since you’re excited for *gasp* A MAN 🤭🤭😲😲!!?! to talk to you. Speak neutrally and don’t give up a lot of information about yourself as soon as you open your mouth. He doesn’t need to know your real name, real number or favorite food items in 1 sentence.
Drop your hand if you happen to drop something on the floor and a guy reaches for them for you. I was at the grocery before when my milk slipped perfectly into the empty wastebasket next to the self checkout. An older man dove into the basket and I had to remove my hand off of the jug so he could grab them. I’ll admit, I had a grip on it and he told me to let it go so he can grab it. If someone’s already in the process of doing a favor for you, let them.
Ignore people you know are staring you up and down because you’re hot and their wife isn’t all that. Don’t even look at them. Those type of men won’t pay for you (unless they’re bold or use a credit card they haven’t maxed out). They’re broke and you’re more than curb appeal. Once again, you are not on display for bum guys.
Don’t be too impressed with compliments. If you hear, “You’re so beautiful, your beauty could resolve world hunger,” you respond with “I know” or “I hear things like that” with a snarky smile. Your snarky smile is NOT meant to be flirtatious so watch how far your smile goes out. Begin by building your confidence by saying “thanks, I hear that a lot”.
Definitely don’t be too impressed with being paid for. In this instance, you can smile sweetly and have a grateful tone. If it’s your first time, be very excited!! I was so full of energy when I got an expense covered. Every time, I’m excited. You don’t need to jump up and down in front of the man, your complexion will brighten though and you can be visibly happy. Over time, you can react more neutrally.

Lastly, poke around areas you want to be paid for in. Think lunch rush near corporate buildings, service jobs with lonely or unfulfilled men, the mall at times most people are working (morning to midday) and niche grocery stores. If you’re not old enough to sit at the bar, sit at the closest table to it. You can be paid for at any time and in any location, but these locations and times are most frequent.

How to Begin Practicing Your Makeup
You will commonly hear to build up your makeup application experience, practice your makeup. This advice is vague and very open ended.
How do I properly practice my makeup?
First, look at many examples of beauty looks you’d like to achieve. Let’s say you want to focus on mastering nude eyeshadow first, but you don’t know how to wear eyeshadow.
Put away any palettes that aren’t nude eyeshadows. This way, you won’t be distracted by vibrant colors or pretty palettes.

Watch a step by step makeup tutorial with similar colors to yours. Make sure you listen to whoever’s applying makeup before you try to tweak it because you disagree.

Take. Your. Time. Don’t try to do a 45 minute look in 5 minutes when you have time on your hands. If you feel in a rush, do 1 phase of the look at a time. That means, wear 1-2 shadows from the look instead of 1-2 transition shades, a shimmer and the outer lid space. Choose 1 to 2 that look right on you.

Help yourself even more by printing out looks you want to attempt. If you’re unable to print, make it your screen saver so you can refer back.

Make sure you’re using the correct brush[es]. Don’t try to use a foundation brush on your eyes because it covers your eyes in more pigment than an eyeshadow brush. Look at infographics for conciseness.

An Intro to the Ingenue Archetype: Look Like You Have Stars in Your Eyes

Ingenue (anjəˈno͞o): an innocent or unsophisticated young woman, especially in a play or film.
An ingenue was a type of woman popularized in 1920s silent films. She could be described as a woman who needs assistance from others and can also act like a damsel in distress. By others, she is known as very innocent and beautiful.
How to Look Like You Have Stars in your Eyes
1. Practice looking towards the sky or ceiling when you think, if you don’t already.
When you look up as you think, you’ll look a sweet and insightful.
2. Change your facial emotions to a more positive expression.
Have a small jovial look on your face so you’ll be portrayed as a happy person.
3. Look in your intended direction with a softened expression and peaceful look in your eyes.
For subliminal inspiration, listen to “Little Girls from Little Rock” from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
4. Watch your expression and “stars” in your eyes if you have a feeling you look like you’re lost.
Your eyes are full of warmth and wonder, so that means you’re not an airhead or confused about where you are.
5. Practice until a hopeful look in your eyes becomes natural.
Once it becomes natural, you’ll be able to switch from several faces from different archetypes.

Hi luxurious princesses and ladies!! If you’re looking for a pink starter palette, Cloud Spun is for you! I’ve been eyeing it for years until I decided to buy it for Christmas. It looks SO much better in person (the light over me distorts the colors and makes them appear darker and more orange than they are than are) and I’m going to experiment with it for the New Year!

Best regards,
Klassically Khalyiah

What website do you use for bookkeeping?
Plus, any tips for a beginner trying to learn how to be organized with their money for their personal life and newly business owner?
Bookkeeping websites:

WaveApps.com > offers free bookkeeping, invoicing and payroll. I recommend this if you’re new to business and/or offer services. This is mostly used for businesses, however you’re able to use it for personal as well. I like how you’re able to sync it up with your bank account so your transactions automatically are recorded each month, you just have to review and categorize it.
Quickbooks Online > this is subscription based but they offer several different pricing tiers and it’s pretty affordable. My clients have found this to be quite confusing, but if you have a bookkeeper or accountant it’s not bad. I recommend this option if you have a product based business. You’re able to sync your transaction up with this as well.
Mint.com and Quicken.com are good solely for personal finance.
Google sheets > spreadsheets are old school but they fucking work! It’s completely free and you can customize it however you like. The only downfall is it’s pretty manual, but it’s super simple to use.
Tips
Just be consistent! You can use all the tools I gave you but without consistency, it won’t work. An easy way to stay consistent is to set a day each month to do all things finance and accounting related for your personal life and/or business. I have a day on my calendar called “finance day” and it’s typically within the first 14 days of the month. I use this day to go over my spending, budget, investments, etc. Make this a habit, and you’ll get much more organized with your money. 🤍

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your whole sw/level up/high value woman journey so far?
Tough, since I’ve learned so much! These are all off the top of my head.
Embracing my divine feminine. Really leaning into the part of me that calls for me to be gentle, to be soft spoken, to listen rather than speak, think rather than act. To understand that getting into physical or verbal altercations, excessively clapping back at people, acting above people with no grace or humility will not get you very far. This is regardless of your gender.
Sometimes it’s better to wait and react to something rather than acting too quickly, especially without a plan or all the facts.
Everything is not 100% this or that. It’s important to keep my actions, mindsets, and beliefs at least a little flexible. The biggest example is when I first went from a “things happen to me” mindset to a “I make things happen” mindset. I started taking responsibility for things that were not my fault, and had to mature into the realization that I can be responsible for my life and things can happen to me that are out of my control. It brings peace and a heightened level of understanding how to navigate life.
What’s meant for me will be for me, and most things I desire are desired because they’re meant for me.
People who I have to hold on too hard to are meant to be let go of.
Forgiveness is paramount for inner peace, firstly for yourself, then for for everyone else.
There is no price to be put on your anonymity in today’s digital age. Even if you’re not a celebrity, learning to move in silence and limit your online presence is something precious and irretrievable. I understood that when it was almost too late.
People come into your life to help you, so let them.
The only human being you should idolize is yourself. Everyone else will eventually let you down. Promises mean nothing, words mean even less, so rely only on actions.
It’s possible to get to a point where it’s impossible to hate or disappoint yourself. You just need to teach yourself grace, and then teach yourself to apply it to you.
Money is a tool, and not something to be entranced by, worshipped, controlled by, or hoarded. Once you have enough to live your life the way you need/want and secure the current and next generation, donate the rest to people who don’t.
Philanthropy is a MUST, and it must come from the heart.
Nothing you do can succeed without the support of others, either directly or indirectly.
A lot of men can be terrible people, so make sure to only spend time with those who prove they’re worthy of it.
A lot of women can be terrible people, so make sure to only spend time with those who prove they’re worthy of it.
Everyone will use you for something. That’s not a dealbreaker, because chances are, you’re using them for something too. Make sure the relationship is mutually beneficial. This applies to both romantic and non-romantic relationships.
Everything has a shelf life. Understand it, and work it into your goals.
Putting yourself first actually increases the survivability of your relationships.
A woman’s beauty, both inner and outer, are among her greatest assets. Spending time on my appearance has gotten me into doors I could never have dreamed of. Spending time on myself has kept me in.
Teach yourself what it means for you to be happy.
Working until you drop is meaningless and very seldom increases profits. Rest as often as possible.
Education is important! Learn as much as you can about as much as you can, even if you have to teach yourself. Learning how to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, is one of the most important skills to master. In other words, re-up on your vocab and get that spelling and punctuation correct!
Focus on your faith. Whatever that may be, chances are it will lead you to being more grounded, humble, grateful, and kind.
Give people the benefit of the doubt. If they betray that, then just cut them off. No need to go out of your way to ensure they understand how they hurt or betrayed you. They know, and likely don’t care. They will get everything they deserve, as will you.
People are the most complex and hard to understand creatures on this planet. Spending time devoted to understanding how they tick will pay off. Spending time devoted to understanding how you tick may save your life.
I know this isn’t the most typical advice for sw and those other things but is what I’ve taken away from my journey. Hopefully at least one of these can help someone else!

what makeup products do you use for a full face? 🤍
I switched it up recently!
I’ve been going with pretty simple looks and I’ve been loving them, I usually just do the same look these days and I’ve got it down, 25 products and 15 minutes to do a full coverage soft matte romantic makeup look and I decided to stop doing winged eyeliner, it made me look too juvenile and I’m into a very polished look as of late because my makeup is the only thing holding it down for me and it’s the only thing that I can totally control.
My Favourite Products!
Hourglass Cosmetics Makeup Brushes.
MAC Prep + Prime Fix + Primer Spray in Goldlite.
Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge in Nude.
Urban Decay ‘All Nighter’ Face Primer.
Lancôme ‘Camoflauge Corrector’ in Brick Red.

Urban Decay ‘All Nighter’ Setting Spray.
MAC Fix + Setting Spray in Tempting Fate.
That’s absolutely everything that I use, my sponges and my brushes, all of the products, and I use all of the products in the order that I listed them in. I don’t use use a lot of highlighter but I’ve been using it lately to highlight the bridge of my new nose and to highlight the interior corners of my eyes, I don’t use it on my cheekbones or on my face, concealer does that for me, and I’ve found that lashes make my eyes seem a hell of a lot less hooded and they brighten up my entire face and give me the ability to work on the loving gaze that I do at Frederick when I think he’s busy with something and not giving me the attention that I usually enjoy.

advice on sex for younger girls? I’m sixteen almost seventeen but everyone around me is doing it. how do you know if you’re ready or not and how do you know if the guy is the right one to do it with or not ? also do you regret having sex for the first time young?
thx as always. xoxo
who cares what everyone else is doing. you are not them. make your own sound decisions. I can assure you that no one cares whether you are sleeping with anyone.
if you were to contract any health complications from sex, would you and your partner be able to deal with it?
if you were to get pregnant from sex, you would and your partner be able to care for the baby financially? emotionally? can you provide care for the baby properly?
if your partner were to ghost you after sex, would you be able to handle that rejection and feeling of betrayal?
when you have sex with this person, chances are you will remember them for the rest of your life (maybe not in 4k details but you likely won't forget). is this someone that you want etched into your memory forever?
if you had a child who was in your position and was going to be sleeping with your prospective partner, would you be pleased with their choice of partner? would you be pleased about the way that boy propositioned your child? if not, why let it happen to you?
let's say you agree to sex and the process begins but you suddenly get cold feet, reassess the situation, and change your mind. do you feel that your partner would agree to stop without any complications?
sex is very serious. someone is quite literally entering your body and opening up a box of consequences that come along with that action. does your partner treat it as something serious? something that needs protection and care?
I need to really emphasize the fact that sex is very serious and comes with a lot of consequences. too many to name, even in just the way your body will change as you become sexually active. some consequences are more grave than others, but whether it be mentally being hung up on someone or unwanted pregnancy, there are a ton of consequences that come with it and many of them are not things that young people are properly equipped to handle. there's a reason that it's advised to wait until you're older. the good feeling from the ordeal only lasts so long but outcomes can be life altering and need to be dealt with by a matured mind. like, there are certain problems you won't even be able to solve alone simply bc you are a minor and will need a parent present. that's how young you are.
I encourage you to rethink your views on virginity and abstinence. why is sex something that you feel a need to rush into? especially as a little high schooler? food for thought.
I understand the hormonal changes you are feeling at your age that come with a desire to explore sexual relationships and I get that we live in a hyper-sexualized culture that makes it seem like it's no big deal to throw caution to the wind and get out there. I strongly advise you to disregard it. You asked for my advice and this is it: wait.
When the time is right, you won't have to second guess it or come to a blogger and ask for their opinion. You'll be able to confidently say, "I'm grown, I've got my stuff together, I trust this person, he's got my back 100% and I've got his. He cares about my safety and will step up to the plate if anything goes awry. I don't have to hide or sneak around or pray that my parents don't find out. I have a more matured mind, I understand how to take care of my body and I can afford vaginal care. I fully accept the consequences that may arise from this act and I can take accountability for anything that my own negligence has caused. I'm ready and I know it completely." Until you have that feeling, wait.
*(you asked if I regret starting young. I didn't start young. I waited until I was in my twenties and was in a relationship. I always look back on previous relationships, crushes and propositions from partying in high school and I always always feel grateful that I waited)

Essay Tips From a Harvard Student
The Academic Essay
Summary, then analysis, then conclusion. It's that simple.
Do not use pathos (appeal to emotion). Don't try to force the reader to feel the way you want them to, let them develop their own emotions naturally.
Do not use ethos (author authority). Don't say look at my credentials, therefore I am right. Your background knowledge holds little weight if your argument is not convincing.
Only use logos (focus on logic and arguments). Get to the point, say what needs to be said, and let your facts and arguments do all of the talking. That is the only talking needed in an effective essay.
The Job of Intro Paragraphs
Introduce the topic at hand. Not just the book, but your particular focus on the text
In the first sentence (or second, if grammatically necessary) introduce the title and author. Don't be like those cringy food bloggers. Get to the point and tell the readers what we are discussing straight away. "In/throughout (book title), (author) (one sentence summary of the material)."
Raise and justify your question (the argument) that you will be answering.
Present your 'so what?'/stakes (reason why we should care or bother to read this anyway) and your thesis statement
Thesis Statement
The one sentence articulation of your overall argument
A response to the 'so what?' of your question where you can now articulate what is important
A sort of promise you make to the reader: a claim you make at the beginning of the essay and you promise to make valid/convincing by the end
It is the last sentence of the intro paragraph, concluding the set-up presented before it
Parataxis vs Hypotaxis
When relaying information from a book/whatever, the order it is told makes a difference
Parataxis: info is relayed in a manner where the order doesn't matter. It can be presented in generally any way without changing meaning. (ex: put on your shirt, your socks, and your pants. does it matter which order you do it? no)
Parataxis info will be connected by using words like also, another, similarly, additionally, etc
Hypotaxis: each point leads to another and can't be changed around without affecting meaning. (ex: following a recipe. you can't put something in the oven if you haven't mixed all the ingredients yet. the order is crucial)
Hypotaxis info will be connected by using words like since, because, however, despite, even though, although, etc
There is a time and a place for both parataxis and hypotaxis, and they must be used accurately. Hypotaxis will allow you to present your argument in a logical way that the reader can follow and parataxis allows you to add in examples from the text that supports your claims as you make them.
Basic Outline
Intro paragraph: introduce text, raise and justify question, present thesis statement
Summary paragraph(s): present the books position on your particular focus (stay on track when writing. figure out what your focus is an put your energy only on that), select quotes to use that show the books position, explain why that position exists.
Analysis paragraph(s): examine/question the books position, choose quotes/evidence from the story that prove your chosen argument/focus instead, explain why your position exists in opposition of the book.
Conclusion paragraph: show the larger implications of your analysis, answer questions like, "what does my argument mean for the book? how does it affect the readers understanding of the book?"
3 Rules for Quoting
If you say the authors name in the sentence before you copy the quote, you don't put the authors name in the parenthesis to cite the name/page. If you don't say their name, you must put it in the parenthesis. ex: To illustrate his jarring appearance, Rowling describes Voldemort as "one ugly mf" (152). ex 2: Voldemort is then described as being "one ugly mf" (Rowling, 152). You should always try to avoid having to put the name in parentheses when it comes to non-fiction work because by introducing the quote with the authors name, you will make things much clearer for your reader and the the writing will flow better.
All quotes must fit with the grammar of your sentence. If you introduce a quote with an announcing verb (says, writes, claims) followed by a comma, you MUST CAPITALIZE the first word of the quote. If you do not use an announcing verb followed by a comma, you must NOT capitalize it.
If you change anything about the quote (for example, to make it fit your sentences grammar or to make a pronouns reference clearer, etc), you indicate this change by using [brackets]. To condense a quote and remove superfluous information in the middle of it (ex: "she said," or other things in the middle of your quote), use "[...]" to skip ahead and get to the point.
Why We Use Quotes
To pick apart the quote
To use it to support another point
To challenge it or question it
To use it as a demonstration of something
To present it as an example of an important idea or paraphrasing
When You Use a Quote, Think About:
What does it help you show? Why are you putting a quote here? What are you going to "do" with the quote next? (one of the above bullet points)
If you can't answer these questions, you probably don't need this quote. An essay isn't better when you throw the whole source material in there. It's better when every line matters and furthers your argument effectively.
Whenever You Quote, Do These 3 Things:
Orient the quote
Explicate the quote
Analyze the quote
Don't just toss in a quote and walk away from it. You need to wine and dine it. Bring it home to meet the family. Prove that it means something to you and adds value to your essay. NEVER get slutty with your quotes.
If you do these 3 things properly, it should take several lines, possibly even a small paragraph to do so. If not, you might want to give a quick summary instead as the quote couldn't lend itself to much information out of you.
Orienting Quotes
What is the context of this quote? In the place where the author wrote this, what are they talking about? Why did they say that? Make sure you are using it in the right context and the reader is getting that too. You can't say Goldilocks thought the summer day was "too hot", when the phrase "too hot" was actually used to describe porridge. Know your quotes well.
Explicating Quotes
Explication of quotes answers the question "what does this quote mean?". Often you'll literally need to tell your reader what the quote means by rewriting it in your own words and giving a full understanding. Lay it all out plainly and leave no stone unturned. Don't compromise your success at making a convincing argument by failing to keep the reader understanding what the heck is going on and what it all means.
Analyzing Quotes
How does this quote play into your overall argument? Why are you using this quote? What does it help you show, how does it develop your argument? Tell us!
Transition Sentences
After the intro, transition sentences are always the first sentence of each paragraph.
They are the sentence where you make clear the story you are telling and the argument you are developing. They are moments where you explicitly tell us how things go together and keep the line of logic flowing.
Ask: what is this paragraphs connection to the previous paragraph? How am I showing this connection? How can I better show this connection?
Are you continuing the point? Use words like also, further, another, additionally.
Are you pivoting against the point? Use words like however, but, yet, although, while.
Are you showing causation or conclusions? Use words like because, since, and so, therefore.
Paragraphs
The point of a paragraph is to present a single distinct point or idea. As such, paragraphs need to be cohesive and all of the sentences need to make sense together.
Paragraphs should be organized around their purpose, not just their content. What is the paragraph about? But also: what is the the paragraph doing (summary, analysis, etc)? Why is the paragraph doing this? What does it accomplish in the overall arc of the argument ("why am I summarizing here?")
Your job as a writer is to articulate this stuff and in particular, transition sentences are exactly where you articulate this
For Each Paragraph, Write Out the Following:
The content of the paragraph (what it will be about)
The purpose of the paragraph (what role it plays in your developing argument)
This paragraphs connection to the previous paragraph
Now write ONE sentence that summarizes these 3 things. This is your transition sentence!
ex: This paragraph is about the 3 bears' different preferences. The purpose is to show that they are all of the same family, but are not all the same. This connects to the previous paragraph because I used that one to speak of their bond as a family and united front to get rid of goldilocks but now it is time to show how they are still individuals. TRANSITION SENTENCE: Although (<- pivot word) the three bears have shown themselves to be a close-knit and united family, we can see that they still maintain their individuality in the household.

HOME GLOWUP 1/2 ⁽ᵉᵃˢʸ ᵖᵉᵃˢʸ⁾
STEP 1: CLEANLINESS
You do know how some homes are welcoming and some simply aren't, the moment you enter... the smell does matter a lot.
Wash all textiles, including curtains, decorative pillows, bedcovers. They DO refrain a ton of smells and dust, body sebum, food smells that can make a house smell off. Clean the curtains, furniture, decorative pillows, and other fabric items every season.
Change the kitchen linens everyday or every other day. They are especially susceptible to odd odours, as they retain food bits. I make it a rule to have 7 sets of kitchen linens, which means 7 rags, 7 hand towels, and 7 dish linens, so that if one piece gets dirty, I can easily change it out.
Take out the kitchen trash EVERYDAY or every other day at MOST. If you don't produce that much trash, time to scale the trash bin down. For the other room's trash, it tends to be less smell-producing but I would make sure to change it 1-2 times a week.
Make it a habit to do the dishes as you go, or every evening. No buts nor maybes.
Activate the fan and take down the toilet lid every time you flush down, I think you understand what I am meaning by that. An additional option is to make room sprays avaliable nearby. It can be Febreeze, or some fancy room mist, to your taste.
Have a COHESIVE house scent across rooms. Don't do lemon scents in the bathroom then rose scents in the bedroom. make it cohesive aka within the same perfume family (fruits, florals, woods, etc) or pick scents that are known to fit well together (chocolate and spice, orange and spice, strawberry and light florals, etc). THAT DOES INCLUDE CLEANING PRODUCTS!
Burn incense, or candles. Beeswax candles are amazing to bring in cozyness, a bit pricier but a little goes a long way!
Do not dismiss the power of OPENING WINDOWS and AERATION. Takes off anything musty smells, changes the air for cleaner fresher air. If you live in the city, dismiss that and choose a HEPA portative air filter. They're wonderful for smell elimination.
Keep down any pet scents as much as humanely possible. Take out the kitty litter every day, use litter baskets that minimize smells (like those closed ones), do a litter overhaul every week. Remove urine scents with enzymatic sprays first (avaliable in pet stores). Giving baths to dogs and cats (for other pets, make sure to check if it is okay as some pets cant be bathed) every month, or better, bringing them at the pet groomer.
Establish a clear housekeeping routine, to keep everything clean. It is better to dust weekly than removing a massive coat of dust every season (ugh). There's whole routines you can google so you can create a nice frame for your housekeeping needs. I remind you again: housekeeping done regularly makes life EASIER. A 30 min weekly dusting is easier and feels better than a 4 hour dust crust removal every 4 months.
STEP 2: DECLUTTER
Visual clutter distracts the mind from the actual art/architecture features and makes a space seem trashy even if it may be extremely clean. See how hotel rooms feel CLEAN and agreable as hell... It is because it is clutter-free and streamlined for easy cleaning aka minimum clutter.
If you declutter, you're actually making your cleaning routine way easier. Less stuff to get around, obviously. Spare yourself the pain of cleaning by decluttering.
No clothes on the floor, and remove those you don't want anymore. No more "cloth chair". Reserve a specific space (hooks on the wall, a different basket from dirty laudry) for the "not quite dirty, will rewear again" clothes.
No clothes chair. You did read me right. I am repeating it again because I'm sick of messy girls glamorizing that fucking cloth chair. Sister, that sounds lame and you sound like a teen and not an adult. Growup.
Try to keep anything cluttered that you can't declutter (p.ex: laundry basket) in concealed storage. In the wardrobe, behind furniture, etc. We want to minimize anything visual clutter by diminishing the number of items the brain has to analyze.
Color variety DOES contribute to clutter. I am not encouraging you into going monochrome obviously but, a room with 5836 completely contrasting colors will be harder to keep less visually cluttered compared to a curated palette room.
Neat and orderly clutter is always ever always better than disorderly clutter. If you can't get rid of your book collection (which is fine btw), dedicate a specific space to those books, and look into alternate covers for those books (some books come wrapped in cloth then an amobile paper cover, the paper cover is just librairy publicity for the book, just ditch it you won't regret it.
Remove labels from products, like the dish cleaning soap bottle, except if it's essential (p.ex. dangerous chemical products). Written stuff DOES contribute to visual clutter.
This post is to be followed by another post next week, and I'll talk about palette curating and making the home cozier. See you next week! 💎
