i wrote this today at 5 am because i had a tough conversation with someone the previous day and i wanted to die:

"i have this belief that life happens in the moments between tragedies. that every devastating event serves as punctuation in our lives, and our purpose is to relish in the brief periods of time when we're not aching and limping as if we are returning from a battlefield. every day, as the sun dial turns and millions of alarms ring, we get out of bed and feel ourselves inching closer towards a war we cannot run from. and so, we soldier on, we love as hard and as madly as we can, we kiss and we let ourselves be held because what else are we supposed to do when we're not under siege? what else are we to know than to salve our wounds?"

- it was shot at a target and never retrieved

- it was disemboweled

- somebody kept it in the freezer for too long

- it was used as a replacement piece in a chess game (the rook)

- it paradoxically undressed before succumbing to hypothermia

- somebody robbed a bank with it

- it learned how to do a vanishing act

- it ran a marathon and died before the finish line

- it was kept in a heated garage during the winter

- somebody bought a bus ticket for it

- it started going to swimming lessons

- somebody left it turned on while they were on vacation

- a blue bird made a nest inside it

- it saw an ocean stretching over sand dunes

- it was sterilized

sometimes i doomscroll through my camera roll and get very sad remembering the people i lost or the things i took for granted and how everything seems significantly better and worse when looking through the lense of passed time. ultimately, i was miserable then, and i'm miserable now. pain has a shape and it's a circle
