iPhone 8 plus (2017)

iPhones are definitely my comfort zone since I work with them most often, so I can usually ID them on sight! Apple only released two models with that camera shape (the 7+ and 8+) and unlike the 7 the 8 series has back glass so there's a slight gap between the frame and the back.

#theres like a 1% chance its a 7+ because they did have some models with super glossy back frame but im pretty sure i can see the frame gap #phone id #ask #apple

The Samsung does NOT have a round fingerprint scanner

But in all honesty, I couldn't identify a phone if it had a fuckin model number on it

I'll be totally honest here... I did notice the shape was different from the start. I was being lazy and thought, "oh its just the angle.... the edit I did over the original could've compressed the pixels to make it look round.... yeah no need to dig any further" <- Thats the devil talking.

It kills me to read the notes on the og post cause everyone thinks I didn't notice the fingerprint scanner when the truth is much more embarrassing: I ignored it cause I'm what you might call... stupid

#but to the ppl who say i shouldve noticed cause it doesnt say samsung on the back: WRONG #backglass is easy to break and most replacements dont have a logo on the back so its not a reliable feature for ID #also i wanted to complete the ID during my lunch break so i kinda rushed lmao #i thought about including the scanner discrepancy in the post but it was too bulky #and i genuinely did not notice the color gradient i thought it was the holo color shift of the a30 #but anyway. excuses excuses!#i dont want to overexplain for fear of looking petty especially when getting it wrong was way funnier than being right lmao #not ID #ask

sorry if you've already answered this but what's your favorite phone to repair? I used to work in phone repair and I miss it so bad 😭

This is such a fun question! I love working in phone repair so I totally get it :)

If I had to choose a device I guess it would be the iPhone 11. It's not particularly fun or anything but definitely the easiest for me personally!

Issues are pretty easy to diagnose and fix on an 11 compared to the rest of the iPhone family, and the shields are more consolidated so even just a screen replacement only takes me like >10 minutes to do. Back glass is a breeze cause there are no magnets to fight with while chipping, and there is no wretched 5G cable to cause catastrophic problems :)

#this isnt iphone xr erasure i love her like a sister but girl... that extra shield.... its just too much #my fav tablet is an ipad mini 5 cause we were on contract with chillis for a while so ive fixed more than 100 mini 5s over the past year :3 #youd think it would make me hate them but no... i love those little guys #not id #ask #anon

Please read before submitting an ID

Submission/ask/tagging rules under the cut:

Back of device must be visible for smartphones; for older cellphones the front must be visible

If there is a case, the ID will have lower accuracy and will likely be a range of models

Some IDs can take a few days to do

If I don't think I can give a good enough ID I likely won't respond

I'm willing to answer smartphone repair questions, but only once per issue. If the same problem is asked again I will just reference it to the one previously answered

That's LCD damage baybee

The LCD can break even without the digitizer or display glass breaking (which is all fused into the same assembly), so it's not always obvious that the screen is broken. A break like that usually occurs from pressure or a hard drop, but I've seen heat/water damage cause that before. Solution is likely just a new screen assembly 👍

#which if u want my opinion is not really worth it for most galaxy s series phones. anything aftermarket sucks and oem is expensive as fuck #also i dont wanna make a habit of answering repair questions cause like. im off the clock man #not id #ask #phone repair

I decided to make my own phone id blog cause I love doing it, but also cause @phoneid tends to mostly do older cellphones, and I was planning on doing mostly smartphones :3
