He strolled to the vacant desk like he had all the time in the world, and threw his bag down next to his as he slid into the seat. His new tablemate didn’t say anything, but his stiffening was all the reaction Dazai needed. He didn’t pay attention to what the teacher was saying as he started talking, and instead favored doodling on the desk with a pencil he found abandoned on the floor. Then something the teacher said cut through the static in his head.

“-And your lab partner will be the person sitting next to you.” The redhead beside him rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath. Oh, Dazai was going to have so much fun with this.

“Guess we’re partners now!” Dazai turned with a cheerful grin. “Fate’s wild, isn’t it?”

The redhead didn’t even look at him and snapped, “Don’t talk to me.”
