I need help!

To all my Japanese and Asian music listeners out there I need help. I was scrolling through my music playlist on YouTube and I remembered about a channel I was subscribed to once upon a time because I loved their music but for the life of me I cannot remember what it's called. The last time I watched it was in the early 2000s . "Narcissistic Abuse is a special kind of abuse"

We've all heard it before... Let me, someone who does experience empathy, prove that this stereotype is complete and utter bullshit.

I was abused by my mom for over 20 years. The shit that she did to me fits the "narc abuse" stereotype perfectly. Even now, nearly everything she does and says to the rest of the family is heavily self-centered

"I am your mother, you will do as I say because I said so."

"Don't you know what I did for you? I gave you food, water, clothes.... You should be grateful to me."

"Don't you understand that you have to respect your mother?"

"I get it. I'm the worst mother in the world." (sarcastically, when no one even attempted to imply that.)

I can not even count the number of times I've hearn those things in any given day. Meanwhile, if there's one thing I know about her, it's that she is FULL of empathy. There are times when she deliberately avoids that empathy because of religion or "family values" and other types of indoctrination, which is a whole other conversation itself on how that shit promotes abuse, but nonetheless, the problem is not NPD.

I see her heart hurting for countless people all over the world. She cries for children in Gaza, she's more than horrified by dark humor, she's scared for MY safety and wellbeing, and I see that but that doesn't make her any less of an abuser.

She still landed me in the hospital over a broken... "down there" area, when I was five... She still hit me at least five times a day until I was 8, She still threatens to hit us nowadays despite being completely unable to do so, she still belittled me for all my autistic traits, fuck she belittled me for being left-handed.

And she did all of this knowing full well that I was suffering as a direct result. And she did not "like" it. She was watching the pain that she put me through, and it hurt her too. And what did she say through all of that?

"Grow up."

"The world isn't gonna hold your hand."

"Why are you being so difficult?"

Empathy did not stop my mother from doing any of the shit she did.

And here I am, as someone who also experiences empathy... asking myself "would I be an asshole if I didn't?" And I think back to my childhood... You'd think the answer is yes, because I was a total asshole when I was ten. But despite experiencing empathy, most of my moral code is built on logic instead. Asking questions and observing the world and absolutely despising a lot of the double standards that I grew up with.

"Atheism is worse than killing a hundred people? How is that just? What the fuck is wrong with you?" (me, in my head, at 11-years-old, coming to that conclusion WHILE avoiding my empathy, something that I was taught to do because "rules are rules")

I might not experience actual NPD, and sure, it feels like an oxymoron to be using empathy to mentally simulate a lack of empathy, but I can still damn well put 2 and 2 together and see that the problem is, in fact, SYSTEMIC in nature, and not caused by a fucking mental disability.

Hell, I'm pretty sure I inherited my autism from both my parents, but as several people out here put it, that doesn't make any of their actions "autistic abuse". What a fucking concept.

Dear Narc Abuse Believers,

You aren't going to heal from your traumas until you stop blaming everybody's actions on narcissism and stop using NPD as a scapegoat. NPD has nothing to do with abuse, it is just a mental disability that you dislike the traits of.

Once you admit that your abuser abused you because they are abusive, you will start the healing process. You cannot blame abusive behavior on anything except for the abusive person, because they are the abuser, they have hurt you, a mental disorder did not. You are only hindering your healing from abuse when you blame it on things that are completely separate from it.

NPD is not the excuse. NPD is not the explanation. Abusers abuse because they are abusive.
