i think when we used to point out that a story didn't need a sex scene what we meant was "this story reduces its women to mere sex objects and gives them no interiority so the sex scenes are gratuitous and geared towards the male gaze" it wasn't the sex that bothered us per se it was the objectification of female characters while givig them little to no consequence to the overall story but nowadays people mean "sex is icky and gross and has no merit to ever be portrayed in our arts which should be good and pure and never ever make ME feel discomfort" and it's like. i bet a bowl of unfrosted flakes looks real good to you rn

One of the things I love about Ghost is how:

On the surface, you have '80s dad rock meets glitter-goth satire-Satanism.

Then, you have fun and sexy performance and funny, engaging lore. You have sex-positivity and enthusiasm for creative expression.

Then, you have really GOOD music. I'm not a music expert, but it just hits so good.

Then, you have, at its very core, a deep understanding of hardship and pain, while still being so hopeful. So uplifting. Not nihilist at all. Extremely the opposite, in fact.

"Darkness at the Heart of My Love" is so deeply sincere. You would think its a play on Satanism again, and like yeah sure but...

No. Actually. It's acknowledging how hard things are and how hard they can get still... and it is saying, "I know intimately and intensely how bad things can be... AND I still think that hope and that love are more powerful than that. And that knowledge fuels my intense love of all of us. Of humanity."

I an interview, Tobias Forge said that "Guiding Lights" was a song about the feeling of not being able to say to your friend, who you *know* is going in the right direction, that they will get there, and things will be ok... Because if you said that to them now, while they were in so much pain and despair, you would not even be friends anymore.

And I feel that deeply... I've been both people before: the cynic who is in despair and pain and vitriol... and the person who sees hope and knows it's there, but no one else seems to, least of all, those in pain who you care about and you most want to see it, because it would ease their pain.

The juxtaposition of the confident, sexy, showy Papas' personalities next to the humbleness and "just a little guy!" vibes of Tobias Forge is just so funny to me.
