München Hauptbahnhof - Before boarding the train to Dachau. 📷➡️🎥 ⠀
The first Munich station was built about 800 meters to the west in 1839. The station was opened at its current site in 1849 and has been rebuilt numerous times, replacing the main station building which was badly damaged during WWII. At the time and despite heavy bombing from the Americans during the war, train service resumed after each raid. However, after bombings from July 11th-13th of 1944, trains had to be diverted due to the impact of 112 bombs. Nearing the end of the war on April 30th, 1945 with American troops entering Munich, German troops were initially ordered to defend the station. Since a counter attack would have been basically pointless, it was not carried out.⠀
