My big worry about LuciLith is that she never truly had a choice.

Lilith was created to be with Adam, but she didn't want that guy. Then she meets Lucifer and he's just genuinely kind to her, but does that make for a choice..? Be with an entitled ass, or be with the single other being you have met?

That doesn't make a good choice for me. And then they were banished to Hell and there was nothing but each other to seek comfort in either. Adam and Eve as well as their children were long lived, so it'll have been a loooong time before Cain was damned to Hell.

We don't know when the Hellborn came into play, but I'm pretty sure that for a long time it was just Lilith and Lucifer, two creatures created to serve a purpose, created to not be alone by default. Of course they'd become a couple, seeking comfort in each other in the only way (Lilith) knows.

And then they stayed together for millennia, probably because of a mix of obligation and the fact that they literally don't know different.

My hope for canon is that they sort the mess of their relationship out and then decide to be best friends. They have been together too long to not know everything about each other, good and bad, and they'd be great as friends who keep each other honest. But their romantic relationship seems to have run its course, especially with Lilith leaving Lucifer to his depression even before she left for her vacation in Heaven.

Ship #1-Lucifer And Lilith

I have decided to start our adventure into Lucifer's ships with a completely basic pick--Lucifer And Lilith. It has the privilege of being canon, yes, but is it the best?

Luckily I have a few categories to score it by!

(Overanalysis below cut)

Random Technicalities:

Before we see them together, I need to analyze whether they could be together. Overall it's looking good across the board here--the age comparison is probably one of the best when considering most of Lucifer's ships, they're not related, and their power seems fairly equal even when disregarding mental states--though I will admit we don't know much about Lilith's power.

Pros:

I think it's clear that canonically, Lucifer adores Lilith. If you look purely off of his official playlist(full of sad breakup songs) and the fact that he's wearing his ring the entire series, you can chalk it up that he would be a very loyal partner to her if they chose to get back together. Besides that, he looks back on their time as a family fondly considering the pictures in his room.

Unfortunately, we haven't gotten much of Lilith's side of the story besides the exposition in the beginning of Episode one: she found a kindred with Lucifer in heaven. If we want to theorize(and we will be, this is what this entire post is about), it seems like pre-hell they had a bit of a Romeo and Juliet love story. Both are unhappy in the roles they've been told to play--Lucifer as an angel and Lilith as the first woman--and therefore choose to fight the system together.

I get how this could be very appealing to some people--A kind of Mortica and Gomez Adams power couple kind of relationship. And yes, if that's the case it would be very sweet!

Cons:

I, JumperMoon, one who's opinions are law and cannot be disputed, do not enjoy the Lucifer x Lilith ship. There are a lot of reasons for this, so buckle up nerds.

Firstly, I've read several people believe that Lilith was abusive either physically or mentally. I don't really believe that's the case. There isn't really enough evidence to support that. But I also don't think the way they dealt with their trauma lined up. 'But what does that mean?' EXCELLENT QUESTION.

Lilith and Lucifer have been together for eons.

They have been together in heaven. They have been together in hell. They were together when raising Charlie(probably not I'll get to that). They were together when they built their kingdom and together when they ruled it.

Throughout this incredibly long period of time, both were forced to change. And they changed in very different directions.

Lilith became a powerful ruler, a force to be reckoned with, and even used her power of song as a tool of persuasion. In fact, she mimics Lucifer's actions in Eden through that form of deception. She becomes a leader.

Lucifer became doubtful of himself and his ideas, secluding himself and becoming fiercely protective of his family in unison. He allows Lilith to rule hell on her own, leaving her to deal with his own guilt.

This kind of drastic change makes--say it with me kids--strain.

This is a stressful situation to be in. The situation in which they fell in love is entirely eradicated--the excitement of a forbidden romance, the loyalty that caused them to fall together, the dreams and wonder.

They're left on opposite sides of a scale. Lilith thrived in hell and Lucifer suffered in it. While I'd like to say that Lilith lent her strength to her husband, the fact that he's in a depressive shut-in state in the beginning of the series lends to the idea that he was left to cope alone.

SPEAKING OF ALONE, we're talking about Charlie now so get ready.

I think that Lilith specifically chose to keep her daughter's interactions with Lucifer to a minimum when she was young.

This is mostly because of the flashback in More Than Anything, of course--

--But you have to look at this scene from a writing standpoint. The flashback didn't have to end like this, but it was specifically cut short by Lilith. That says something for a show with limited run time and limited scenes with Liliht. Besides that, Lucifer wants to be a father, he wants to interact with Charlie. And so does she. I choose to believe it means something that Lilith doesn't notice with Lucifer at all in this scene--her eyes aren't visible, she doesn't turn around to look at him, and her expression is blank.

Besides that, you must see this situation from Lilith's standpoint. Lucifer is a very real threat to her. He went from a bright young man to a nervous shell, and her fear of what he might do to her daughter--namely Charlie becoming a younger version of him, is what makes her minimize their interactions. It makes sense. But that doesn't make this situation ideal.

Besides that, you know if you've read Lucifer's Library that my opinion on Lilith is that she should become an antagonist. A very complicated and strange antagonist in my case, but still someone with overall negative effects. The way that Charlie calls her over and over again, the ease that she holds herself in heaven, and the way Lute threatens to 'not let her stay' all lend to a selfish motivation on her part.

I don't think Lucifer is thriving by being in a relationship with her and her leaving doesn't signify that he gives her what she needs either.

Canon-ness:

No, that's not a word. But you know what I mean. And overall, I'll admit that this one has a very high possibility of becoming canon again. That is if they even split in the first place.

Would I be happy about this? Possibly! There is a chance that Lucilith could be saved for me. But it would take definite character development on both sides of the coin. Character development that I'm not sure Vivzie is willing to spend the necessary time on. I wish she would, but there are so many plot threads set up in season one and apparently...(comedic groaning) A Vox one planned as well.

So...Can You Get To The Point Already?

This is probably my least favorite ship involving Lucifer. I like both characters, but I like them much more separate. So my overall rating is probably...a 4/10.

Open letter to all the Vampire Queens and Kings, Monarchs and other Lords; from a mortal pianist with an organist cousin, with the question:

Why do you go so hard??

I agree that the organ is the best instrument to fill a grand castle with sound, and those gigantic empty thronerooms have excellent acoustics, but why are you putting so much force into your playing?

You are aware that organs do not have dynamic keys, right? It's not like the piano where hitting the keys harder means receiving a louder sound. Where you can touch the keys so gently it will not produce a sound at all despite being pressed.

On contrast, an organ's keys are capable of nothing more but a simple on/off. Pressed or not pressed, sound or no sound. You could touch an organ's keys light as a feather and it will still go DRÖÖÖÖÖÖÖN until it runs out of air.

So I ask once again: why are you playing your organs so hard?

Of course I understand the need for certain flair, but all those excessive movements make your playing less accurate and increases your hands' distance to not just the manuals but also all the stops. I am aware vampiric super-speed makes that a non-issue, but just imagine the speed of music you could play without limiting yourselves unnecessarily! (Additionally, at the point of using super-speed, the flair is lost regardless.)

And we haven't even started to talk about the foot pedals: While half of you do not appear to know that that is indeed what those are, the other half stamps around on them like utter barbarians. The same on/off philosophy applies to the foot pedals. Also while you are down there, you will find the volume pedal to introduce the dynamic into your play the keys lack.

To sum it up: treat you organs with more gentleness. You know how hard it is to come by a competent and understanding organ maintenance person willing to travel out so far.

Poor Alfonso has been on the road for years straight, and every time he comes home he can start right over.

Do better.
