Why Bellatrix Lestrange was so crazy (Most Noble and Ancient House of Black Headcanon)
• As someone who descended from generations of inbreeding, she suffered from mental instability from birth, which only worsened as she got older
• She inherited her Aunt Walburga’s explosive and dangerous temper, and extreme attitude on blood purity
• She had an inherently dominant and forceful personality, and excelled in anything that required adrenaline
• Her family environment was oppressive and as the eldest daughter she was given the most responsibilities snd expectations
• As Sirius and Regulus were both much younger, she was raised like a firstborn son and treated with little affection by her father
• However she was still a woman and could not escape the patriarchal values of the Black family which expected women to be submissive and continue the bloodline
• On the other hand she was also told the Blacks were the most illustrious family ever and thus she developed a high opinion of herself
• Her loud, argumentative and boisterous attitude did not sit well with her parents, who as a result constantly punished her
• Unlike her more suave sister Narcissa she was unable to hide her opinions and often got into trouble for it
• Despite being a top notch student, her parents paid little compliment to her achievements, instead expecting her to marry a pure blood heir as soon as she graduated
• Her parents cared little about her feelings and desires, but merely expected her to unquestionably follow their orders and honor the family name
• This authoritarian upbringing was what later endeared her to Voldemort’s authoritarian regime, and she gradually adopted her family’s cold and ruthless attitude
• As a teenager she was also insecure, craving for praise and validation that she never received, and having to shoulder her family’s responsibilities without having anyone to confide in
• She felt deeply betrayed by Andromeda’s elopement with Ted Tonks, as it was kept a secret, and despite herself taking the responsibility to protect her sisters, Andromeda did not appreciate it at all
• She fell in with the wrong crowd at school, many of her friends being the children of the first generation of Death Eaters, and they delved deeply into dark magic
• Her marriage with Rodolphus was arranged by their families, with little love or attachment, the main purpose being to forge a beneficial alliance
• Being ‘forced’ into a loveless marriage was partially what made Bellatrix so bitter, and she vowed never to have children and instead devoted herself entirely to Voldemort
• Despite fervently championing her family’s beliefs, she also had a rebellious streak, and refused to be a broodmare like other pure blood women, regarding it as something beneath her status as a female warrior
• Her hostile attitude towards traditional gender roles and motherhood made her an outcast amongst pure blood women, and she fell in deeper and deeper with male Death Eaters
• She didn’t have a single caring or nurturing bone in her body and was serious about sacrificing any hypothetical sons to the Dark Lord
• Voldemort gave her the attention her father never did, saw her as a truly brilliant witch superior to the men around her, and gave her free rein to unleash her frustration and rage
• She fell head over heels for Voldemort, partially in awe of his magical prowess and charming demeanor, and partially to spite her family for forcing her into a loveless marriage
• In her twisted mind, Voldemort also gave her a gateway to freedom, as no one else could ever tell her what to do with his protection, and Voldemort would never want his best lieutenant to be out of action due to pregnancy
• She was secretly jealous of Narcissa for marrying someone she loved, but also saw her as the only remaining sister and family she could confide in

Narcissa Black (Malfoy) Headcanon - Noble House of Black - Black sisters
As the baby of the family, Narcissa was spoiled at a young age by her sisters and parents and given the best of everything.
She wasn't given as much pressure as the eldest sister Bellatrix, nor sidelined like the middle sister Andromeda, and had a relatively blissful childhood.
Being naturally lady-like and elegant, she was very popular among the pure-blood circles and considered an eligible match for many young heirs.
She bore a physical resemblance to her mother Druella and was favored by her.
The most feminine of the three sisters, she delighted in choosing clothes and makeup, learning dancing, and was often mocked by Bellatrix.
However, like other Blacks, she was also not free from the stringent expectations placed on her to uphold her pure lineage.
Luckily for her, she found a love match in the wealthy Lucius Malfoy, much to the pleasure of her parents, and they were a couple since their Hogwarts years.
She wasn't as gifted in magic as her older sisters but had a more personable, smooth personality that endeared others.
She was also a Slytherin through and through, loyal to her family, cunning and self-serving, and a true pure-blood at heart.
She aligned with the Death Eaters mainly due to her husband Lucius, but disliking violence, never became a Death Eater herself.
She was always a bit awed by her sister Bellatrix's prowess, but Lucius told her Bellatrix was honoring their cause and upholding the glory of pure bloods.
She did not aspire to a glamorous career but instead chose to be a loving wife and mother.
She was very prominent among pure-blood circles, and often had tea and socialized with other pure-blood women.
She was embarrassed by the scandal her sister Andromeda caused and stopped talking with her after her marriage to Tonks.
She was occasionally also intimidated by Bellatrix's extreme behavior, as she no longer recognized the sister she once knew.
She was as bigoted as her sister and husband and viewed Sirius and Andromeda as traitors to their family.
Despite not being physically the strongest, she had a hidden inner strength, that came from her love for her family, and her status as a proud Black and Malfoy.
Like her husband, she was elegant and refined, relishing the finer things in life and placing a great deal of emphasis on wealth and status.
Her signature color was green, the color of her Hogwarts house that perfectly matched her sleek, blond hair.
Her wedding was the happiest day of her life, and many prominent figures across the wizarding world came to attend.
She couldn't understand why Bellatrix wouldn't want to be a mother, or why Andromeda threw her life away for a Muggle-born Hufflepuff.
As time went on, she grew apart from her sisters, focusing more on her new family, particularly her son Draco, who she doted on.
Initially, she didn't know the full extent of what Death Eaters did, and thought Voldemort treated his Death Eaters with respect and rewarded them with glory.
Lucius kept many secrets of Death Eaters from her, and she thought aligning with Voldemort was the best way to keep her family safe.
She was a good Occlumens, being subtle and good at masking her emotions, so it was very hard to read her feelings.

Bellatrix Black (Lestrange) Headcanon - Noble House of Black - Black sisters
As a child, Bellatrix was energetic, curious and precocious, always showing bouts of magic and asking questions about everything around her.
She had mental issues from generations of in-breeding and inherited the Black family madness, but that only started to show later on in life.
As the eldest of the three sisters, her parents put the most expectations on her to be the perfect pure-blood daughter who would honor their family name.
Like most other rich pure-blood, she was spoiled and given the best of everything materially and repeatedly told that as a Black family member, she was better than everyone else, contributing to her arrogant, self-centered, and narcissistic personality.
As the eldest daughter, she also took most of the punishments for her sisters at home which led her to her developing Stockholm syndrome and later mental instability.
She was sorted into Slytherin and became part of a gang that was intrigued by dark arts and constantly mocked half-bloods and Muggle-borns.
She was an excellent student, excelling especially in Defense, Astronomy and Ancient Runes, though she regarded Charms and History of Magic as ‘soft’ options.
She was also an active member of the dueling club and several times champion of dueling competitions.
She didn't have much interest in Herbology or healing magic that required patience and compassion, and she scoffed at Divination.
She wasn't too popular with the teachers who considered her part of 'the wrong crowd', and in particular she and Dumbledore shared a mutual disdain for each other.
Younger students were intimidated by her, and sometimes even her sisters were afraid of inciting her explosive temper.
However, she also had the rebellious spirit of a teenager: instead of being the elegant and well-bred lady that her parents expected, she didn't want to marry and become a broodmare.
This did not sit well with her parents, especially her father who adhered strongly to traditional gender roles, and caused significant tension between them.
Frustrated with society's expectations of her to be the submissive pure-blood wife, Bellatrix got more and more immersed in dark arts and her beliefs in pure-blood supremacy became more extreme.
She was frustrated that her father did not see her worth beyond a pawn in the pure-blood marriage market, and developed feelings of inadequacy, resentment, and self-hatred.
She was also furious that she was not made a Prefect due to her overly rebellious and unseemly behavior, despite being the top student in Slytherin.
She achieved Outstanding and Exceeds Expectations in most subjects, and once even entertained the idea of becoming an Auror.
Rich, attractive, and magnetic, she was determined to prove her worth and rise above everyone else so no one could ever tell her what to do.
She was friendly with fellow Slytherin student Rodolphus Lestrange, yet did not love him romantically. However, at their families' insistence, they got into a loveless arranged marriage.
Rodolphus was the one who introduced her to the Death Eaters since his father was one of Voldemort's earliest supporters, and she gradually rose through the ranks to outshine her husband and his brother.
As a Death Eater, Bellatrix finally found the meaning of her life, being recognized for her talents by this mesmerizing dark wizard, and told she was better than all the men around her.
Once put down by her parents, teachers, and the rigid pure-blood society, Bellatrix now enjoyed her newfound power to lord over others and reveled in her own supremacy.
Not having a single maternal bone in her body, she resolved not to stay at home and have children like the other silly pure-blood women, but instead devote her life to her lord and fight for his cause.
The reason she loved Voldemort so much was because he was the first person to truly see her worth and tell her so, though she didn't see that he was just using her.
She was outraged and felt deeply betrayed by her sister's Andromeda elopement with a Muggle-born, but was delighted when Narcissa married her fellow Death Eater Lucius Malfoy.
Linked by their marriages and their shared cause, the Black, Lestrange, and Malfoy families grew close and Bellatrix would often hang around Malfoy Manor.
Trained by Voldemort himself in the dark arts, she excelled especially in the Unforgivables, and swore to use them to exact revenge on whoever tries to hurt her.
She particularly hated the 'blood traitors' in her family who fought for the Order, such as her cousin Sirius and later her niece Nymphadora Tonks.
She wasn't that close with her cousins due to the age gap but approved of Regulus' decision to join the Death Eaters.
However, she scoffed at Regulus' softness and his inability to fully embrace the dark arts and instead preferred another new recruit, Barty Crouch Jnr.
She decided to manipulate Barty Jnr by playing on his frustration with his father and mold him into a vessel of unwavering devotion.
She wasn't too bothered by Regulus' death since he wasn't very useful to their cause. She did however mourn her other cousin Evan Rosier since he was a ferocious fighter and took down many Aurors.
She used hurting others as a coping mechanism for the hurt she once received, instead of breaking out of the abusive cycle, and was often casually abusive to those she perceived as weaker.
She derived her pleasure from intimidating and exercising power over others, and never showed respect to anyone except Voldemort, always snarling and shrieking, and would become extremely aggressive and violent at the slightest provocation.
Together with her husband and brother-in-law, she fought and bled like a true warrior for more than a decade, sharing in their glory and looking forward to a future where she, Bellatrix Lestrange, true heir of the Blacks, could stand with her head held high, and never bow to anyone except her beloved lord.
