which one of these did you believe was normal throughout your childhood:
Parents telling you that you're a financial burden to them
Parents insisting you need to work if you want to live in their house
Parents threatening to kick you out if you don't do as they say
Parents threatening death to you
Parents convincing you that you would die without them
Parents expecting you to know information you've never been taught or shown
Parents convincing you that you're unlovable
Parents telling you that any harm done to you is deserved
Parents not caring if you're sick/injured and shaming you for it
Parents expecting you to not have needs
Parents telling you that you're 'crazy' when you remember something traumatic they did to you
Parents acting like you're not a part of the family whenever is convenient
Being told to keep silent to 'keep the family together'
'What happens in my house stay in my house'
Parents inflicting physical abuse, marks and injuries on you
Parents having the right to do whatever they please to their kid
Parents insisting they must be automatically forgiven for everything
Parents telling you that you're the abusive one if you disobey
Parents throwing rage tantrums and screaming hateful atrocities at you in the 'heat of the moment' then later pretending thats normal and forgivable
Parents being allowed to act immature while children are not
Parents simply 'not noticing' when you have emotional/mental issues
Being suicidal and nobody caring or paying attention to it
Struggling with eating disorders/mental illnesses/disability and only being shamed and blamed for it
Parents insisting that their right to hurt you is above law and reason and that you are the only one who can be punished
Idea that 'everyone has it this hard' and 'you're the only one who is being this badly affected by otherwise normal treatment of children
Being told that it would only be worse for you somewhere else and you're lucky that you're only having 'only that amount of abuse'
Parents comparing their parenting to worse examples and wanting gratitude that they're 'not as bad'
Parents telling you that you'll never amount to anything and undermining everything you've done in life continually
Parents acting like your experience and perspective don't matter, or insisting you don't have the right to one in the first place.
(none of these are normal. this is brainwashing)

Tips for Dysfunctional Family Girlies Part 2:
1) Get your basics straight. Education. Boundaries. Financial independence. Further breaking it down and linking it if you get proper education at some point you are bound to get an awareness of this world, if you are able to adapt and improvise yourself and develop your emotional intelligence and get your boundaries straight you will save yourself a lot of unnecessary drama and problems. Education (formal and informal) both will help you in gaining opportunities and if you are financially independent, you are holding the power to make your own decisions.
2) Develop thick skin. Your mom is calling you names. Slut, whore and what not. Your dad doesn't trust you and abuses you physically. So, what now? Are you going to let them define what you are or internalize the anger and use it as a fuel to become successful? Choice is yours.
3) They say you don't owe an explanation to anyone. Sorry to burst your little bubble. Actually you do. We live in a society and have relationships that we need to maintain for survival. This hyper independent stuff is only good to read. We have responsibilities that we need to fulfill. If you don't owe an explanation to anyone then don't cry about a closure from someone too. If you can live by this go ahead and practice it.
4) Stop isolating yourself. That's it. That's the point.
5) First kill the fear inside you. Being a rebel outside the house is no good. Be disciplined. Know how to manipulate your family members in your favor and if you can't just find the weak points and threaten. I know it's difficult to implement but you learn through trial and error. Plus something is better than nothing.
6) Stop glorifying people who treat you with kindness and love. That's the bare minimum. Just because you didn't get it served in a silver spoon doesn't mean it is not served in a silver spoon. People can have ulterior motives and even if they don't fix it in your brain that's normal. No rose colored glasses allowed.
7) Don't be afraid of indulging in your sexuality. No I am not saying go and have sex with people. I mean it in a deeper sense. Connect with the repressed sexual side and try to find healthy outlets. Don't dim yourself to fit in others'expectations or to ease someone's insecurity. Be unapologetic about your wants and desires. Know yourself. It's a powerful energy source if you know how to use it positively.
8) Cry, cry and cry. Wail like a child. No need to keep it all in. No need to act like a macho woman BUT only in front of your god or your belief system. Max in front of your truly trusted people.
9) Question everything as easily as breathing. Doubt every thing. Every action. Every person. What proof do you have to not doubt ? Stop giving benefit of doubts. Stop looking for excuses on how they could be good and instead look for ways in which they can harm you. That's your lottery to be poised and composed. It's just what it is.
10) Obsession. We have it in loads. That's natural to us. So the trick here is to be obsessive. Hella obsessive but about things, topics, goals, subjects, inanimate things, etc. God forbid but never be obsessive about a person. Not even over your dead body. Why? For that I need to make another detailed post I think.

Being raised in the abuse means the dynamics in the home changed for your rapidly. One moment everything could be okay, you could be just tending to your own business, playing or doing homework or even hanging out and cracking jokes, and then within that same day, without you doing anything to cause it, there can be screaming, death threats, you running for safety in your room, trying to argue back but being shut down, obscenities being thrown into your face, you blamed for the entire thing. Or, you could be outside with your family enjoying a field trip and everything is fine and everyone's in a good mood, and then later in the car every adult is screaming, throwing blame, exploding with rage and bitterness and you quiet down hyper aware that all of this can be turned against you in a second.
After a while you can predict when things are likely going to go bad, but you can't control it. It's never you who decides to start the drama, you're always doing your best to make it safe and calm again, to get to that place where maybe someone was talking to you in a normal tone of voice or said something funny that made you laugh. You need that reality to be true, you need that normal. You do everything in your power to keep it consistent, but it seems that any minor inconvenience, any kind of event, any little irritation and frustration that comes from the outside, can throw the entire family experience into chaos, hatred, threats and violence.
This inconsistency and instability is what causes constant vigilance and anxiety. You cannot count on anything. You cannot know whether the parent you need something from, will react calmly and give it to you without an issue, or whether they'll turn on you and ask you what about what they need, why you never ask about their needs, and what a filthy selfish disgusting brat you are, leaving you alone with a problem you're not able to solve. You don't know whether you're allowed to speak your mind or say what you think, because sometimes it's allowed, and sometimes it's taken as a provocation and 'talking back' and you could be punished for it. The rules and goalposts change constantly, you don't know what behaviour is allowed or okay, never know what is expected from you, only that whatever you're doing can be proclaimed as wrong and punishable.
Your parents moods and whims dictate the atmosphere, and what kind of parent you get that day. You need a parent who cares about your moods too. Your need for consistency, reliability, safety, predictability, logical consequences and clarity, is completely ignored in favour of two adults throwing tantrums every other day of the week. Your childhood and raising you are so insignificant, they don't even care about your experience of it, or how hard you're trying to keep an illusion of 'normal', so that you would keep being able to survive in a home like that. Having parents that can change moods rapidly, explode, go from rage to good humor in a second and then turn back just as quick, is traumatic for a child who needs a consistent, kind, attentive and patient parent. That child deserves a parent too. Not this. Even adults wouldn't be able to consistently deal with bullshit abused kids go trough every day.

The Lessons in Chemistry trailer dropped and it looks soooooo amazing! But but but, two things:
1. Harriet is old. In her fifties. (I don't mind if she's Black because Elizabeth Zott wouldn't have) but now they're using it as performatitive thing to do protests etc. The thing with the book was how Elizabeth hadn't wanted the whole world to be involved with her world & she actively ignored it (albeit very naively). I don't know how this change is going to sit. Hope they won't go too woke.
But I wanted Harriet to be old. Because Women are worth to be in the story with or without wrinkles.
2. This might be a very teeny tiny qualm but when at the end Elizabeth Zott says, "Children, set the table. Your mother needs a moment to herself." I always imagined it to be "Children [pause] set the table. Your mother needs a moment to herself." And then I listened to the audiobook and it was the same there. That pause is meant to get the children's attention. So when Brie says it without a pause, it irked me a bit but still she suits the role of Elizabeth Zott amazingly!

Some Lunar Rambling
Sometimes, I daydream about 1969, when humanity first walked on our planet’s moon.
it must have been strange, being one of those 3 astronauts, on Apollo 11. On a mission to a moon, the moon, our moon.
only 12 years before,
in 1957, Sputnik 1 breached our planet’s atmosphere and entered orbit, did humans first send something they had touched, that they had created, beyond their home planet.
Tumblr media
[ID: a black and white photograph of a technician putting the finishing touches on Sputnik 1′s wiring. Sputnik 1 and the Technician, who is wearing a white lab coat, stand out against the pitch black background. The Technician has his head bent in concentration, hands busy with his task.] Sputnik is a Russian word, meaning “fellow traveller”. Sputnik was the first piece of ourself - of humanity- that reached space, and that didn’t travel on earth, on our home planet, where humanity and humanity’s ancestors and the ancestors of humanity’s ancestors had spent
every single moment of existence,
every birth and every death, every memory, every breath in and out, every heartbeat and blink, where we’d spent every bit of time living.
No, instead of traversing the galaxy on Earth, no, Sputnik now traveled alongside Earth.
Us humans, we’ve always wonders if something, someone else, was out there, in the wide galaxy. We’ve always wondered, after so much time looking for anyone, anything- Were we truely alone?
While we still had not encountered anything not from our own planet, with Sputnik, “fellow traveller”, orbiting us, there was something else out there. Humanity was no longer alone.
only 15 years before,
in 1954, were colour tvs introduced to consumers. All of the people on that ship had grown up watching things in black in white (if they watched at all) and now they were on a trip to Earth’s Moon.
Humanity’s first step on the moon was broadcast live from a camera attached to the Lunar Module, still in black in white, to save power and bandwidth.
There was a colour camera back up in the Command Module, still in orbit, but it was a much more delayed broadcast, and of course, wasn’t as close to the action as the one down below was.
Tumblr media
[ID: a grainy, black and white image of Neil Armstrong stepping off the final rung of the Lunar Module’s ladder, taken from the live broadcast in 1969.]
Around the world, millions of people gathered in front of television sets. 650 million people held their breath in anticipation, as they watched Neil Armstrong take mankind’s first small step on the moon.
It became an often asked question, after that fateful day, “Where were you when man first walked on the moon?”
My mother has told me many times before of her memories of the whole thing. She was 5, in France. A teacher brought his home television and wheeled it into a long corridor (it was the only place that could fit everyone), and they watched it live together. My father- always the exception to the rule - shrugged me off,  told me he didn’t really remember, then, amusingly, going on to recount watching the broadcast that officially declared JFK dead in 1963.
We made it to our moon before we could handle streaming colour television live. The phones we have in our pockets today are quite literally millions of  times more powerful then the computer on Apollo 11. Even a cheap pocket calculator out-performs that thing in terms of computing power.
And we used it to get to the moon.
Tumblr media
[Id: 2 engineers in white button downs and dark slacks stand in the middle of a room, surrounded by a large machine with panels, switches and buttons all over. One of the engineers leans over, hands holding a piece of paper that feeds into the machine. The other, standing a pace behind the first, writes notes on a clipboard as he observes. This photo is of Apollo 11’s computer as it’s being tested in Masechusetts prior to the mission to the moon.]
only 66 years ago,
in 1903, did the Wright Brothers Orville and Wilbur first take to the skies with powered flight. 66 years is in living memory. There were countless people that had been alive, could even remember, when the Wright brothers made their legendary leap into the big blue above with wood-and-canvas wings, with a commissioned engine and a dream. Before then, there were countless other attempts at human flight.
Tumblr media
[ID: A white and black photograph of the Wright Brother’s first powered, controlled, sustained airplane flight in history. The canvas-and-wood plane has just touched off the ground, which is sandy and flat in every direction as it fades into the fog. Orville is piloting the contraption, lying on the plane’s lower wing in the cradle which controls the wings. Wilbur stands aside the contruct, facing towards it, having just let go after running alongside the plane while it was taking off to help keep it’s balance.]
And barely more then 6 and a half decades later, a spaceship with ceramic shielding and metal bones escapes the Earth’s gravity and makes it to our moon.
Can you imagine being 1 of those 3 astronauts that went to the moon? To be 1 of the only 3 people in the world to have gone to the moon? To have left footprints and a mirror there, or to have manned the Command Module while your fellow astronauts gathered moon rocks below? To have them return, space suits covered in moon dust? To know so little about the moon, that when you return to earth, you don’t come back to a celebration of your return, you’re  quarantined for a few weeks following the trip, just in case you picked up some lunar pathogen. To have seen an ‘earthrise’, as NASA coined it, our entire world made small.
Tumblr media
[ID: an ‘earthrise’. A picture of the earth taken from the moon.]
650 million live viewers, thats how many watched Neil Armstrong take that step.
I think about how humanity came together that July 20th, in 1969. Not only in the moment with is many people tuning in (650 million live viewers is still a number that would be mind-boggling to reach, even today, in the age of the internet and video streaming.) - but also before hand, through the veil of time - months, years, decades of effort leading up to that one historic moment. The work done by the software designers, the engineers, the scientists. How fast the technology changed, within the span of a single life-time. Nowadays, we live in a life that is even more ever-changing then before, and I feel like we’re a bit too used to it.  Sure, not every milestone is as memorable or as clear as the Moon Landing, but even look at things like VR technology - didn’t used to something only in sci-fi? And now you can buy a pretty good headset for like, $200. We have machines like google home and Alexa that take commands by voice, again, something out of sci-fi. The internet connects billions of us together, and science is only moving faster. I guarantee, humanity will reach mars within my life (though the merits of that considering the context surrounding the push for mars are debatable), and we will walk on the Moon in our first time visiting since 1972. We’ll be able to have the first of Womankind take steps on the moon.
My dream has always been to be an astronaut, and visit our moon. Leave my footprints there as a see Earth from a view I’d only even seen in photographs. Of course, it’s just wishful thinking, I’m not likely to ever go to the moon, even if me admitting that makes my heart ache. I think I feel this strongly, because to me, it represents the best of humanity.
Getting a human to the moon was the hardest, most drawn out, arduous team project in history. And every time I think about it, dispute the endlessly deep melancholy I feel with the knowledge I’m not likely to ever see my planet from afar in person, and the ever-looming reminders of our carelessness driving a toll on the integrity of our planet’s ecosystem…. it gives me a spark of hope.
Of pride.
For everything we’ve accomplished as a collective. I’m glad that I, and everyone else out, there can look back on moments like these, just to feel that warm fuzzy feeling, of being proud of what we can achieve. Human’s aren’t inherently evil. Not everything is terrible and awful all of the time. We’ve come so far, taking a moment to look back… well, it’s a different world.
And for the finale of this post that’s so unlike everything else I’ve ever written, I’d like to draw your attention towards this last photo of Mission Control after the 3 men aboard the mission returned home safe and sound, in all it’s cheesy patriotic glory.
Tumblr media
We’re capable of amazing things, us creatures, when we work together.

I was trying to work on my WIPs but this thought won't leave my mind. I find it incredibly heartbreaking and poignant how Babel is a book about the ones erased from history and yet it still fails in so many occasions in telling their stories (and how it is on purpose). SPOILERS AHEAD.
From the start, we never get to know Robin's name, the last thing he thinks about before the end, and this is his story, which makes the loss even more staggering (even though Robin remembering his mother at the end is also hopeful and tender, because he didn't lose that memory). Despite all the pages spent describing the tale of all those Babel and white people don't believe they're human deserving of rights, their stories are incomplete, lost, and not only because the book is written following Robin's perspective. It's the English fault if we never get to know more about the Hermes Society. Anthony is so important to the story, yet we only know a little about him: as soon as Robin dares to believe in creating his path with the Hermes Society, Anthony and the others are brutally murdered.
Griffin is–I could talk hours about Griffin. He is Robin's foil, his brother, the incarnation of where the story is heading. Since the beginning, he is there to remind us the golden years are just a dream. He is the Cassandra telling everyone that violence is the only way to change things, and he's right, but at what cost. We don't know anything about him. We only have scraps. His last words –which were of comfort, of hope, not a recrimination like Robin thought– are never showed to us. We'll never know the impressive work he did all his life to make way for the revolution. Sterling, Evie, Griffin and Anthony were probably as intertwined as the main quartet: what is their story? What happened between Griffin, rejected son, and Sterling, who calls professor Lovell Richard? Did they love each other before and while hate consumed them? (Of course they did.) What happened in Burma? How much of Robin's cohort is a terrible replica of Griffin's? How terrible it is that we never get to feel the depth of Griffin's grief when he learns Anthony is dead? We only see the moment Griffin and Sterling manage to kill each other, ending their portion of the story once and for all.
We, like Robin, see the possibility of learning more about these people taken away from us. Robin will never get to see Ramy again, they'll never meet Ramy's parents in Calcutta. Victorie barely remembers her native language, Griffin's was taken away from him almost entirely. It's so much loss, of knowledge, of potential, of people, the ending of the book really feels inevitable. And right at the end, when you could dare to hope for a better future, when Victorie chooses to live? The only hope is her, and the book telling the story of the people who took Babel under siege. The book is the only way Robin may ever get to say his side of the story to posterity. And we, the reader, won't get the see the future either.

Daisy Jones & the Six | S1 E1
I've been excited for Daisy Jones & the Six since it was announced but to now have it available and to see these characters come alive on television feels surreal.
Tumblr media
I wanted to binge watch it but like the story flow in the book, I didn't want to rush it. I wanted a slow burn. So I'm writing my thoughts about one episode a day but who knows, tomorrow is a Saturday and I might end up finishing the remaining two before the remaining . (BTW I'm still outraged at the fact they made this a series & The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo a movie.)
So here goes & mild spoilers if you are yet to see the first episode:
Episode - 1 : Come & Get It
Tumblr media
“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's muse. I am not a muse. I am the somebody. End of fucking story.”
This episode we get all the characters sitting down for interviews & we go into their rise. I perfectly loved how we went from their old self sitting down to give interviews & reminiscing their past. The portrayal of the Dunne brothers & Daisy was more fleshed out in the books than here but it was the perfect amount of exposition given in the series. The little bread crumbs left for us to pick! I jumped around whenever there was a little bit of foreshadowing. Cannot wait to see the payoffs.
The Soundtrack was sooo beautiful! I tapped my feet to every song and even the background scores. It was all so catchy and fit perfectly to the theme of the show. the 70s classic Rock n Roll. The characters,
Billy Dunne - Absolutely wonderfully portrayed by Sam Claflin. The light cockiness but the absolute heart-on-the-sleeve persona. The light bread crumbs left*Chef's Kiss* <3
Daisy Jones - The chaotic Miss Jones! I was a little skeptical about Riley Keough as Daisy because I always imagined her to be of average looks & baby face like the kind of personality which is small but persona which is big but I absolutely vibed with Riley. Brilliantly executed. I cried at the end when she sung "Be Myself" at the end sitting all alone. I'm waiting for that Soundtrack to drop! Graham Dunne - I have a crush Will Harrison just for that beautiful, Boy band Charisma he carries. He held the guitar for a reason and it has worked on me.
Eddie Roundtree - Absolutely love his jealousy. Its like a cat fight but very one sided. Also I love it when its between two men. Josh Whitehouse smashed it from his very first dialogue.
Warren, Simone, Teddy & Rodes - I am absolutely glad they didn't side line their characters. I am waiting for them to have more screen time though. Camila Dunne - Camila is my FAVOURITE character in the book! I am in awe and in love with Camila Morrone for doing such an amazing job and I cannot wait to see her as the story progresses. I loved the dialogues & how some were changed into conversations instead of the characters telling it to us. The screenplay was also very good. The shots as if they were taken by Video recorder was an amzing choice! Makes it more personal.
I'll have more thoughts after I watch the next episodes.
Final Thoughts : Get me "Be Myself" fast!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have any recs on where I can find a translation of the Mahabharata? Or at the very least any good reads regarding Arjuna in general (talking mythology not Fate related)?
lmao ok so. first thing to bear in mind is that it is VERY old and has about 50 million versions and 4 translations, which means that theres tons of changes from version to version as to who was where when and who said what so its hard to say what the 'definitive' or 'most correct' version would be so you're always going to ahve to bear that in mind not that people dont argue about who's right anyway
second thing: its very long, and by merit of also being old it does have that old story structure you may have noticed if you read stuff like the bible or the odyssey so bear that in mind if you find texts like that dry or difficult to read
i've got two translated versions from a friend on discord, an abriged (still long) and a long version one by bibek dibroy and one by C Rajagopalachari. i also included their versions of the ramayana bc why not. ive uh. never shared a google drive link b4 so pls let me know if that works lol
FULL TRANSLATED MAHABHARATA (Bibek Debroy)
ABRIDGED MAHABHARATA (C. Rajagopalachari)
FULL TRANSLATED RAMAYANA (Bibek Debroy)
ABRIDGED RAMAYANA (C. Rajagopalachari)

What do you do when the world separates you?
When you have no one to blame?
When you don't have them to love?
When you have no one to hate?
When you have nothing to hold onto but only memories?
When that beautiful ocean filled with love is now drowning you?
When you want to hold on a little longer but have no breath left.
What do you do?

Today's Janmashtami and I am stanning/fangirling over how beautiful Krishna is. Not just his physical demeanour but how your Chaotic good and human he is!
His life is full of drama which he himself created which is like ultimate God energy. He is playing the games along with humans which he himself has created and who does that! Just his name is enough to bring a smile to your face; not with fear, not with respect, but with just Love.
Who else is worshipped in every form from child, to a teenager, to adulthood and even his supreme personality. Who has been worshipped for being so cunning yet cute. Krishna is so adored (atleast by me) is because he does not feel like this ideal God everyone washes the feet & fears for. He is the most friendliest person I could have known and I haven't even met him! Krishna is human, an ideal one but that is what makes him the supreme God. Everyone relates to every stage of his life. There is like an apt lesson in his life which even we as flawed humans can apply to ourselves which I haven't found with any other God.
When I was a child, he used to be my companion.
When I was a teenager, he used to be my muse.
Now when I am an adult, he is my best friend.
Throughout my life, he has been my guide.
For me he isn't just lord Krishna. He isn't just a supreme personality but he is my comfort, my solace, my friend and ultimately my escape.
