“Drawing with light” or, photography, as its commonly referred to, is truly an art and a science. I’ve always been intrigued by photography as both a practice and a professional, but, also as an art. I’ve been privileged to do for some time, and In that time, I probably have caught an infinite amount of priceless moments, including this shot I took between best friends, @alyssapoole_ and @ashtyyn and the whole time, I kept asking myself… which lighting looks better?? Here they are, vibing out enjoying their friendship, and my mind is grinding like, “Ugh, I can’t decide….” So, of course, I shot both ways. And it’s interesting to me, how they decided which shot to post. I say that because I know what I was thinking in the moment, and they literally showed a reflection of that by choosing to post one or the other. Ironically, I saw BOTH of these shots in my mind, with different lighting and all, and I was glad the camera could capture what I saw beforehand. Yes, I do believe the technical aspects of photography, as boring as they may be, clearly should probably be left to a pro, and I don’t say that, just because I am one, but, because if you’re zoning out to take photos of your people, then, you can’t be present in the moment with your people. In my mind, it makes sense to get someone most likely not attached to the emotional moments. Speaking on myself personally, I at least will catch precious moments, but, just know that I’ll also most likely be in a war zone in my mind “attempting to manipulating and control the light”. Most people don’t care about the technical aspects of photography, I don’t even know why I felt compelled to share this, well yes I do, haha, but, for the sake of argument, I do know, most people just want to know, “did you get the shot?” Well, I guess the point I’m making is, “the shot”, is subjective, as clearly we see here. So, I took my @canonusa to the reopening of the @mcasandiego in La Jolla and it was everything I envisioned. Random side story. My 50MM f1.4 lens barrel wasn’t calibrated, and so the pics weren’t tack sharp like I usually love them to be. Ironically, it reminded me of shooting with a film camera in the 70s. So, the experience was everthing that I dreamed about: A beautiful view, beautiful art, with beautiful people, @calebwithcurls @courtneysdade and @flemingdale. Of course I had to add some street photography, and architecture photography in the mix as well. The most intriguing art piece that stood out to me was the old school pomade, “wave grease” Duke and Royal Crown, with a wall full of press n combs. That was pretty spectacular to see Black Culture as artistic merit. I used wave grease and my Mom used a press And Comb. Anyway, it was fun, and a true creative release. To the person that gave me my keen sense of fashion. To the person that worked her whole adult life to put me through college. To the person that retired from that same job that put me through college, and then, got her second wind, by starting her second career, opening up her life long dream of owning a clothing boutique. To the person that taught me how to exist, coordinate, and be fashionable while doing the two. To the person that took me to all of these fashion stores as a kid, until I learned how to drive, then, I would eventually begin to drive us to those same stores. To the person that taught me all the other things, like decency, and, love, kindness, and forgiveness. To the person that I was PROUD TO be able to take her to #RodeoDrive for the first time ever. To the person that one day, I will be visiting Paris with, sooner than later, taking pics, and taking names, to the fashionista, business woman, Entrepreneur, Boutique owner, political activist, and, of course, the person that gave birth to me, my Mother. Story Time with, ISH. So, 1995-96, I was in Driver's Ed, bumpin @tooshort ALBUM Number 10...Getting It. I Learned how to drive off of that album. LITERALLY. THEN, Fast forward 10 years later, In Long Beach, Too Short Was the First concert I ever shot in Southern California. I was shooting for Urban Empire, and, then, I met Some of my Frat Brothers that were doing all these parties, and, concerts... Ray, and, Chris. On the flip side. @e40 was ALWAYS in San Diego, and, he was the first MAJOR artist that I ever photographed in the studio... Again, with the Frat Brothers... Shout out Diego to The Bay!
