How do I know that? Very often I explain to my students how important it is not to wait for the trainer to give instructions, but how important self-initiative is. That you only get results if you give more than the average. Many people agree with me, but don't manage to put that into practice. As a trainer I think a lot about how I can best transfer this view to my students. But in the end, I can do nothing more than to set the best possible example and show how it should and can be. No sport / martial arts has ever fascinated me as much as the Luta Livre / Grappling. Why? What fascinates me about Luta Livre / Grappling are the following points; 1. the applicability The training is honest and direct. All techniques and concepts that you learn can be put to the test directly in sparring. It crystallizes quite quickly what works and/or what could work if you develop and adapt it accordingly. 2. the variety of concepts No other sport offers such a high degree of adaptability to one's own conditions as the Luta Livre / Grappling. No matter if you are slow or fast, physically strong or rather weak, tall or small or whatever your advantages or disadvantages are, this sport can be perfectly adapted and made to work for you. 3. the team spirit This sport only works if you have a team of enthusiastic people around you. Whether it is the trainers or the training comrades. Every single one of them is important to guarantee a constant progress. Alone you are nothing - in a team you are everything! 4. the transferability to everyday life Much of what I experience / learn in Luta Livre / Grappling I can integrate into my everyday life. Now in October it is 15 years that I teach Luta Livre. I started as a beginner with a little more than one year of practice in this wonderful sport. It was a fantastic challenge. On the one hand I was still an absolute greenhorn myself, on the other hand it was a challenge to bring this wonderful sport to others in a way that they too will be infected by the virus. By and large I succeeded in doing so. Certainly not everyone was permanently enthusiastic about my way of teaching Luta Livre / Grappling. My vision was and still is to give each of my students a solid foundation to build on this one successful path. No fancy techniques but concepts that can make everyone successful. Meanwhile I have built up a wonderful international team that is constantly growing. The purpose of our team is to work together on our further development and to become better and better. We want to give our team members the opportunity to one day keep up with the best and one day be one of the best. For this purpose, I have created a curriculum so that all team leaders have an aid in planning their training sessions. So that you know exactly what to teach your students to ensure effective development. This curriculum is constantly reviewed and updated. This way we make sure that our team members learn the right things. This task fulfills me with great pleasure. Every day I watch videos and read interesting contributions from grapplers who have done something excellent to inspire me. To learn something new every day and to broaden your horizon is a great experience. Testing it all on the mat and developing concepts further or even new ones is absolutely satisfying and cannot be replaced by any money in the world. What can I say. I thank all the people who inspired me, who awakened this passion in me and who accompanied me on this path. Next to my wife and my family, this was the best thing that could happen to me in my life. This is how I spend a not insignificant part of my scarce free time. Further training is just as important 😉 As a trainer of a team it is essential to never stand still and to keep on learning. To be ready to broaden your horizon and to be willing to change your way of thinking as soon as you realize that it is no longer up to date. 🇬🇧 🇺🇲Today I had the honor to promote my student @patze45 with the blue belt in Luta Livre. Patrick is one of those I trust to go the long and hard way to the black belt completely. He is very diligent, always learning, watching videos and has the urge to keep improving. Spends as much time as possible on the mat. Above all, and this is one of the most important features, he is always there for the team. He always supports everyone with all his heart and soul. For this reason he is also awarded the title of Assistant Instructor at the same time. Patrick represents exactly the qualities that make up our entire team.
