Today, we have a small rock group called Good Kid

Good Kid is a 5 person rock band from Toronto, Canada. Their music is a very clean and bright rock, as in, there is very often little to no distortion, unlike what you would hear from, say, a grunge band like Nirvana.

Good Kid currently has 3 EPs in their discography, titled in order of release:

"Good Kid" (2018)

"Good Kid 2" (2020)

"Good Kid 3" (2023)

They also wrote the soundtrack for an Itch.io game titled "Ghost King's Revenge" developed by Ghost Juice Games.

Just this year, they wrote a cover of Laufey's "From the Start", a bit after it started trending on Tiktok and such.

I recommend Good Kid, they're really Good, kid. (Haha)

Here's today's music recommendation:

"From the Start"-Laufey (Pronounced LAY-VAY)

Released: 2023

Genre: Jazz (Bossa Nova specifically)

From the Start is your average love song, but instead of focusing on the romantic feelings Laufey feels for the person in question, she sings about the feelings of envy, jealousy and hopelessness she feels when they tell her about their romantic partner and when she realizes that they don't reciprocate her feelings.

I already have a bit of a soft spot for love songs, and that paired with the fact that this song resonates with me on a deeply personal level leads to this song being one of my favorites as of recent, I recommend giving it a listen!

Hey, sorry for not posting a music rec yesterday, I had a kinda bad day. There won't be one today, either, I just can't think of who to recommend.

But, I would like to say that I write my own music! You can find me as Basil Afton on SoundCloud (I might change the name idk). The avatar is an image of Basil from Omori.

I write music on GarageBand of all things. Most of my songs I plan on using for a special passion project of mine in the very distant future.

I would appreciate if you were to go and give some of it a listen and then come back here with whatever feedback you may have.

I recommend listening to the tracks titled "Mx. Rockefeller" and "Through the Forest" first, as those are probably my better tracks.

"Pale Machine" by Bo En

Pale Machine is a synth-pop-esque album (with the exception of My Time, which is a Hyper-pop Waltz, if that makes any sense). I'm honestly not entirely sure what story this album is supposed to tell, a lot of the lyrics are in Japanese so that doesn't really help. But sometimes music doesn't need to tell this profound story, sometimes music is just music. But I do recommend giving it a listen and coming up with your own interpretation.

I'll be frankly honest, Pale Machine is an EXTREMELY backloaded album. My Time is literally the greatest song ever written, the title track, Pale Machine, is also really good, and then every other song in the album is kinda forgettable. They're all great songs, but they end up kind of blending together in my head, especially Be Okay and Every Day. I end up having to look back at the album on spotify to remind myself of their order.

The final track in this album, "My Time", was reworked for 2020 Indie RPG "Omori", by Omocat. It was slightly sped up and cut for the game's bad ending credits. Though the original Pale Machine version is better.

Overall, Pale Machine is a really good album, i highly recommended listening to it.

Today's music recommendation:

"Hit The Snooze" by The Living Tombstone

Hit The Snooze, released in 2022, follows a young-ish* girl (aptly known as "Hit the Snooze Girl" by the TLT fanbase) who struggles with anxiety suffering through the quarantine of 2020. What this song does different than most other forms of media that discuss quarantine is that it goes deeper than just "I'm stuck in my house I'm so bored". It goes into the impact it had on friendships, the sinking feeling that every day is the same and that waking up is pointless, using sleep as an escape, suicidal ideations, etc. I relate to Hit The Snooze so much even after quarantine has already ended for the most part. I feel like this song knows me on a personal level and understands what I feel on a day to day basis. This song knows me more than my own mother does. The animated music video that goes along with the song om youtube is great too. It's very well animated with a pretty charming artstyle. I highly recommend watching it.

*HTS Girl's age is a little confusing. The video shows her in a school setting, but the lyrics mention drinking beer to deal with the pain and drinking is something minors can't do?? Idk.

TOTEP, short for "The One True EP", is a short EP that was released in 2018. It sets a much different tone from the cheerful and upbeat albums they had released previously. This EP took KKB in a completely new direction, paving the way for their next big album, Time 'n' Place, which was released later the same year. One of the songs on TOTEP, Only Acting, was reused for TnP.

[Also sidenote, You Know How It Is is literally my favorite song ever]
