#ShareYourPride Day 5
Prompt: A moment you’re proud of
Okay so basically there was this annoying guy in my class that used to make fun of my friends and was just an overall douche. Anyways, we were on a field trip. Well, we were all walking back to the buses to go back to the hotel and he was being annoying and mean and so I said, “I’m gonna slap you.” And he said “Okay then slap me.” So I did. Really hard. He cried. My boyfriend at the time said he’d never been more attracted to me than at that moment. Still my proudest moment.

Ok this year I’m going to be doing the #ShareYourPride monthly journal? Log? Prompt?whatever it is. Day 1 prompt: your flag and pronouns.
My pronouns are she/her and my pride flag is the bisexual flag!
Being bisexual means I like both the guys and the gals and the non-binary pals. I like them all but I choose to identify as bisexual because it’s what’s most comfortable with me. Love you all. :)

Let’s Talk About Star Wars
Here are some of my unpopular Star War opinions:
  1. The originals are the best (that’s a given) BUT Luke was not the strongest character. I say this because, even though he was part of all the major plot points, he was always being saved by other people. (and he was a whiny boi)
2. The prequels sucked. There I said it. Come after me if you want but lemme explain before you do. First off, the dialogue for those movies was atrocious. It was choppy and just did not connect. Secondly, the plot. Did Attack of the Clones even need to happen? (probably so but idk why) Thirdly, Padme and Anakin’s relationship was... it was. I mean she’s years older than him and they met when he was 8 or 9 and then got married when he was 19? idk it just felt weird to me, even now as a watch the movies it’s not the vibe.
  3. The new Disney movies are mediocre at best. The Last Jedi was a bad movie, Rise of Skywalker was okay, and the force awakens was super underwhelming. They tried with representation but there was no development of POC characters and the only queer representation was two women kissing in the very back of the screen in Rise of Skywalker. Idk, not really my favorite
  4. Poe and Finn should have had a more developed relationship and on-screen interaction. Okay, this one’s just kinda obvious. Abrams definitely missed the mark with them. They are both the only POC main characters (another point I’ll make) and were just as important to the plot as Rey but got not even half the screen time she did.
  5. POC characters get wayyy less screen time compared to white characters. You can see in all the older movies the main character is a white male (in 4,5, and 6 it was Luke, in 1,2, and 3 it was Anakin), who is accompanied by other white characters (Leia and Han and Obi-Wan and Padme respectively). The only exception is the new trilogy where the main character is a white woman (Rey) who is accompanied by two POC characters (Poe and Finn). Through all the movies the white characters almost always are the focus of the camera and the center of the screen, and when POC characters become the center of attention, it's always just to advance the plot through side characters. For example, in the new trilogy, Rey and Finn are both seen using the force and developing their knowledge as the series progresses. However, we see Rey get help from mentors and other people with the force and we explicitly see her journey with the force. In the case of Finn however, we only see one or two scenes in which he’s only just discovering his power. I think it would have been awesome to see Finn’s journey with the force. Another example is Lando in 4,5, and 6. We only see him when Han, Luke, and Leia need refuge from the empire or they need a favor. Lando acts as sort of a safe house for them but then turns his back on them and hands them in to Vader. After that, he double-crosses Vader and saves them. Now, I know this probably isn’t what Lucas intended, but there’s a lot of negative connotation around Lando’s character as a whole and he’s one of the only POC in the original trilogy.
  6. Star Wars has been, is, and always will be about politics so stop crying about how the new trilogy is “too political”. First off, in the original trilogy, the rebellion, a band of misfits who are fighting under one cause, is trying to overthrow the empire, a giant force that uses its military power to control people who are poor and defenseless. The empire, which is run by one leader who has total and complete power over the entire empire and seeks to destroy people who disagree with him? Hmmm, sounds familiar doesn't it? Then in the old trilogy, oppressed people on Tatooine are forced to work so they can live and eat while the only other source of income is an extremely dangerous sport which is run by rich people who gain more money with each race, leaving the racers with almost nothing. Another red flag. Thirdly, in the newest trilogy, Snoke and Kylo Ren have dozens of soldiers following them under the New Order, basically following the same pattern as the Empire. They even have that whole scene where it's almost an exact imitation of Hitler and literal Nazis. And in Solo, Han works as a thief and steals parts for the overseer of this gang who does nothing but sits in a puddle just so he can survive but even then they live in fear and are beaten regularly.
That’s just a few but I think I’ve covered the basics. And for the record I love Star Wars like a lot and I’m only critiquing it because I want there to be change in the future. I grew up on Star Wars and always will love it but just like all things, there’s things that could be changed. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk. And if you’ve made it this far: you’re awesome, stay cool.
