The Day the Earth Blew Up was probably the most sincere and entertaining Looney Tunes movie I have seen in a long time. I have been a longtime fan of Porky and Daffy’s companionship over Bugs and Daffy’s rivalry. The Duck and Pig combo have always shown such great chemistry ever since 1937’s “Porky’s Duck Hunt“, and to see the two of them grow up together as brothers and best friends further cements their bond and makes it even more tender. The other thing that was refreshing to see was Petunia pig have a more defined personality instead of being just “Porky’s Girlfriend” in the original shorts. And while the greedy, mean spirited Daffy is often the most recognized, I have always favored the more crazy and unhinged Daffy. He is definitely looney in this movie, but there is also this charming earnest he shows in helping out, and it makes me love my favorite duck even more.
From the voice acting, gorgeous animation, brilliant dramatic coloring, to a fun little story with many twists and turns shows how much enthusiasm, fun, and love that was put into this movie by the talent behind it. The biggest treat for me was seeing all the gorgeous production sketches during the credit role.
I understand nowadays fully 2D animated movies are a hard sell, and at the end of the day it’s more about “how much money did it earn?”, but the sweat and tears that were put into this film outweighs “blockbuster numbers”. I am asking not only as a fan of Looney Tunes, but as someone who works in the industry and knows how much hard work is put into making every frame, composition, drawing, overshoot, squash, stretch, and vocal performance the best it can be to please see this movie. All my love to the Looney Tunes crew!

2 months ago, I bought this wind up toy of Daffy Duck dressed as a Bee. It came from this line called “Looney Tunes It’s Spring Time” from a KFC kids meal in Thailand. I could not get over how extremely well-made this was for a kids meal toy, not to mention it was practically the size of an action figure. This toy looked almost maquette like, it begged to be animated.

I have to confess, I never done any special comping on what I animated before. Aside from learning Harmony, I want to practice using after effects to give my work more omph ie film grain, lightening, blur, etc. Lupin the Third was a fun and good way practice and I’m gonna keep at it with everything else I come up with. BTW, I couldn’t decide on a jacket color, so @meljhurley suggested to have the jacket color change. It’s cool to change to the colors so easily!

WIP rough animation of muh favorite anime boy. It’s more harmony practice. It feels so nice to do roughs in this program. I hope I can get the clean up the way I want it. What color jacket should I use?

I really miss those early-mid 90’s r&b beats (TLC, Aaliyah, Bel Biv Divoe, Janet Jackson, SWV, Boyz 2. Men). Something about the music during that period really moves my soul and my drawings.

I saw all the amazing @spidersonas people have been doing and I wanted to take a crack at it too. I had so much fun making this. I took my character Bluehilda and gave her a superhero moniker. Meet “Blue Widow, The Spider Shrub”! Last page is rough sketches to show that I never feel satisfied with my first pass until the final piece kicks ass.

I'm not going to have time to draw for myself for awhile, but I wanted to pay respects to the man who created one of the most wonderful and influential cartoon characters ever created. Thank you for all the good memories, laughs, and reminding everyone to never loose your inner child. RIP Stephen Hillenburg.

Bluehilda couldn’t decide what to dress up as, so she decided to transform into popular blue characters! Happy Halloween!
