ok so now think of one native american cartoon character you know of or a sports team relating to native americans whether it’s their actual name or their team logo, or a town you live in or near with a “native” name bet a lot of these things came to you right away i bet you didn’t even have to think 

needing native representation in media, education and government are not decoy issues, the commercialization and appropriation of native cultures are not decoy issues, the lack of native representation is institutional oppression at work

When sharing an experience with someone recently who I regarded highly and trusted I was greeted with the words “I would never tell a girl she’s lying, but”

Eventually it’s gets tiring being told that I’m only saying it for attention. Or that I’m only doing it to get back at them. It’s extremely difficult for people to talk about their experiences and by apologising for the person who did it, you are invalidating someone’s experiences.

So many times I have heard the words “he was just as drunk as you”. Except last week you told everyone “he never drinks” because he’s too “respectable” for that.

Too many times have I heard the words “but did you really try to stop him?”. Except those times I did and was threatened or gaslighted. Badgering and pressuring someone until they stop saying no is not consent.

Too many times have I been told “he would never do something like that, he’s a nice guy” when he’s been beating people he regarded as friends until they are bruised.

Stop invalidating peoples experiences if you don’t know the whole story.

You ever get like a period where you’re really into fanfics? And then you go looking for like specific ones? And then you can’t find what you’re looking for? And then you’re really petty and annoyed that you can’t find one that’s right?

For anyone who doesn't know what's going on in the UK right now

A young woman named Sarah Everard was abducted and murdered by a cop while walking home

Tonight women planned to hold a peaceful vigil in her memory using the hashtags #reclaimthenight and #reclaimthestreets

Police responded by dragging women away and arresting them using excessive force and destroying flowers and items left as a memorial for Sarah

And oh yeah, on Monday a new bill is set to go throw that gives police more powers to disrupt protests 🙃
