World Autism Awareness Day! April 2, 2022 Did you know? In 2021, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 44 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to 2018 data. 1 in 27 boys identified with autism 1 in 116 girls identified with autism Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls. Most children were still being diagnosed after age 4, though autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as age 2.31% of children with ASD have an intellectual disability (intelligence quotient [IQ] <70), 25% are in the borderline range (IQ 71–85), and 44% have IQ scores in the average to above average range (i.e., IQ >85). Autism affects all ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Minority groups tend to be diagnosed later and less often. Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across the lifespan.There is no medical detection for autism. World Tuberculosis Day! Let's spread awareness! Did you know that it was March 24 in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch shared his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which at this time was killing 1 out of every 7 living in the USA and Europe. This bacteria causes Tuberculosis and is preventable and curable. Spread through the air from person to person, usually affecting the lungs, however it can also affect the brain, kidneys or spine. TB is a global epidemic devastating many to this day. According to the WHO "World Health Organization" • A total of 1.5 million people died from TB in 2020 (including 214 000 people with HIV). Worldwide, TB is the 13th leading cause of death and the second leading infectious killer after COVID-19 (above HIV/AIDS). • In 2020, an estimated 10 million people fell ill with tuberculosis (TB) worldwide. 5.6 million men, 3.3 million women and 1.1 million children. TB is present in all countries and age groups. But TB is curable and preventable. • In 2020, 1.1 million children fell ill with TB globally. Child and adolescent TB is often overlooked by health providers and can be difficult to diagnose and treat.
