Summary: Steve Harrington and Olivia Henderson have been the best of friends since they could remember. It was a coincidence, really. They got put in the same first grade class. 

As time went on, they were practically joined at the hip!.. until they turned 12, and Olivia started babysitting her little brother, Dustin, and his best friends, Mike Wheeler, Will Byers and Lucas Sinclair.

A crush on Steve developed for Olivia when they entered the 7th Grade at Hawkins Middle School.

Olivia changed a little in high school. Her clothing got a little darker; black shirts and black Chuck Taylor’s. She still wore her denim; she couldn’t shy away from it, but she added more than just blue denim jeans. Skirts and shorts were added to her wardrobe.

Steve became popular in High School and was dubbed the King of Hawkins High after the previous King graduated. Steve felt he had to live up to the expectations of being King, but that didn’t really stop Olivia from hanging out with him when he wasn’t around Tommy H. and Carol.

Things started to change when he became attracted to Nancy Wheeler, Mike’s older sister. He started ditched Olivia more for Nancy, and she understood, but didn’t like it.

The night Will Byers went missing, it put a few things into perspective for Olivia, like her protectiveness for Dustin grew, as well as her friendship with Will’s older brother, Jonathan.

Dustin, of course, dragged his sister into the craziness of Eleven, a mysterious girl with superpowers that showed up out of nowhere. 

Will Olivia eventually tell Steve about her feelings for him during their Upside Down adventures, or will she continue to keep it a secret?

Pretense: Chapter 1 ↳ gummy worms

With the slam of a neighboring door, Peter's eyes shoot open. He's laid in his bed and only a few seconds pass before a sense of panic floods through him. In a swift motion, he reaches for his phone, ripping it from the charger, and sees he was supposed to be awake nearly twenty minutes ago.

Peter shoots out of bed, annoyance consuming him as he frantically tries to get out of bed, tripping from the tangled blanket. His face nearly smacks the wood floor before he catches himself but there's no time for a sigh as relief so he's back to his feet in seconds, grabbing clean clothes and getting changed.

This has become somewhat of a normal experience. In high school, the whole balancing Spider-Man and school weren't too difficult. High school was much easier but after entering college, he's been slipping a little. More late nights as Spider-Man, patrolling and fighting crime, balancing late nights with friends, and late nights studying. His grades have been perfectly fine but his sleep schedule is an utter wreck and now he's left constantly oversleeping and hoping he just manages to make it to class without being late.

As soon as Peter gets his shoes on, he's running out of the door. On the way through the dorm hallway, he pumps into a few people, quick apologies spurring from his lips without slowing pace. His feet patter against the pavement and the lingering summer sun hits his arms. Peter's heart pounds inside his chest as he enters the building off the quad. More apologies spurred from his lips as he bumped into a few people. The classroom comes into view and to his relieved disbelief, it's still open. Barely.

The professor starts closing it just as Peter closes in. He quickly speeds up and comes into view. With heaving breaths, Peter reaches the door and barely stops it from closing. Peter offers an apologetic expression as the professor looks him over. The professor shakes his head, a few loose grey hairs shake with him, but a very faint and gentle smile is written across his lips.

"Mr. Parker, cutting it close." The professor says, he's serious but it's said with a light-hearted tone.

"I'm sorry." Peter mutters while the door closes.

Peter doesn't spend time looking for a seat. He goes to the first open seat he spots, his cheeks tinting while a few people stare at him. He never did like it when people looked at him for being late. A breath falls from his lips as he sits behind a girl with pink hair. His heart rate starts to go back to normal as the professor takes the front of the class and gets ready for the lecture. Peter digs through his bag and pulls out a tablet with a holographic keyboard, a late graduation present from Tony.

The lecture proceeds and Peter is less than attentive, his mind focusing on the night before. A massive fire ripped through a seven-floor apartment. Peter didn't even think before going inside. It was reckless, thoughtless, and stupid. He's Spider-Man, not a firefighter. Of course, he did save a few people who likely would have perished if it weren't for him but Peter's suit isn't designed to withstand temperatures that hot. A bit of flaw the more he thinks about it. The fire was out of control and too hot. It was burning everything in its path within seconds. He's lucky he didn't die or get burned.

Hamartia: Epilogue ↳ new beginnings

The trip to Amsterdam was one of the best times of Shiloh and Peter's lives. For the first time since becoming Spider-Man, not a single villain showed up on this trip. Instead, him and Shiloh got to go to the museum in peace and he watched her become so enthralled with every single painting she witnessed and he fell that much more in love with her with every painting. She found love in the art while he found more love in her.

They went to Body Worlds, the NEMO museum, and took tours around the city. Something about the whole trip brought them closer together and neither of them wanted to leave and go back home. But, Peter promised he'd bring her back, when he won't need Harley's help. And Shiloh vowed to take him wherever he wanted next, as a thank you.

Now, it's July and they've been back home for three months, going into a routine. Peter has been enjoying his job at the Daily Bugle and is thrilled to be back being Spider-Man. He's back to saving people, and promising to take a break if he ever needs it again. Shiloh has actually been learning some of the ins and outs of Stark Industries. She's still very intent that she won't be taking it over, Harley can absolutely have the company, but she still wants to be a part of that and that means she has to learn at least something. So, she packs up almost every morning and goes with Harley and Pepper. She's gotten back into coaching which started earlier in the month. Life feels good for the both of them and they're ready to move on to something bigger and better.

Shiloh is standing in her room, looking around in athletic shorts and one of Peter's shirts. A soft and sad smile holds her lips. Memories were made in this room, so many memories. Late-night study sessions where all of her friends were still alive and happy. Shiloh remembers all of the laughter, spilled snacks, the games of "Never Have I Ever" being played for more than actually studying. The walls, she's sure, still hold their laughter like her memory. And she remembers movie nights with just Harley and he throwing popcorn at him until he stopped quoting Interstellar for the millionth time. Her first night with Peter plays back like an old film.

The night he came to her window, all of the nights he'd come to her window through high school, bloody and bruised usually, apologizing profusely but asking if she'd help him so May or MJ didn't worry. And she always helped, she even started keeping a first aid kit in herr room because of him. And Shiloh remembers the time, the Star Wars movies after everything had happened, fixing the prosthetic leg, giving him his camera. Every memory floods black like a flooded dam.

Hamartia: Chapter 19 ↳ bated breath

When the next day comes around, Peter goes with Happy and Harley to Tony's recommend tailor shop. That was a little weird at first. Just going in and buying a suit with not his own money. It was a little weird but with Harley and Happy, it turned into a great time. They made it seem not so awkward and were good at making jokes and critiquing the suits. It was just another thing that fell back into the sense of normal for Peter. And the days just kept going by after that.

Peter heard from the Daily Bugle who were glad to welcome him onto the team and said he would start after the new year. Shiloh made him a small dinner as a congratulations. Unlike Tony, she isn't a terrible cook. And from there, they just went on being them. They would watch TV or a movie here and there. Peter would go with her to treatments and they'd just catch up, mostly Shiloh catching Peter up on more stuff he'd missed while being away. Shiloh went to FEAST with Peter one day and everything just seems to have fallen back into place. Before either of them knew it, it was New Year's Eve and the night of Gala for Stark Industries.

"Wow, look who cleans up well." Harley teases as he knocks lightly on Shiloh's open door, him leaning on the door frame.

"Shut up." Shiloh groans, rolling her eyes as she looks away from her mirror and back to him.

"Nervous?" He asks walking into her room while she looks back to her mirror to finish her makeup.

"Why would I be nervous, Harley?" Shiloh quips.

Why would she be nervous? It could definitely have something to do with this being her first official date with the boy who's made her nervous for a decade. It could be that this could all go south either between them or a villain will show up and ruin everything. It's not like that hasn't happened before. The Vulture did ruin Peter's first Homecoming dance. But is she nervous? Actually yes. But she'll be dammed if she tells Harley that.

"First official date with Peter." Harley has a sinister grin as he sits on her bed.

Hamartia: Chapter 18 ↳ and resolutions

The next day comes around and right after breakfast, Shiloh is off to the medbay. There's a sense of almost giddiness that flows through her veins, practically skipping all the way there. This has been an ache in her bones for a year now. The thought of dying and the excruciating, daily pain. She can't even remember what it was really like to not to be in pain or feel like her blood was boiling from the inside out. She can't remember what it's like to even be somewhat normal and she is so happy to get back to that. No more pain or worry for herself. Just a normal reacting body for once. She will feel human.

The idea of being a hero has been agonizing since Flash died. She hated it. Hated it with such a burning passion that it turned into almost resentment towards the very suit that saved her own life several times. And the extremis? It just made her feel more like she needed to be some type of hero because while she wasn't literally shooting fire, if she let it go far enough, she'd be strong and powerful. She could have used it for good before it killed her. And she hates it.

Being completely human, no mutated blood or DNA, just a human who happens to be good at engineering means she doesn't have to have that moral responsibility or moral guilt for doing nothing. She can exist without the weight of people's hearts on her shoulders.

"Ready?" Banner asks as Shiloh is seated in the same seat she's had for a year.

"Oh, yeah." She chuckles. "Let's get this started." She says as Banner connects the line to the PICC line attached to Shiloh. "Means I can get rid of this, right?" Shiloh points to it, mouth turned up with pure excitement in every line on her face.

"We'll see how the first few days ago." Banner gives her a smile making sure everything is connected properly before starting her first round. "Did you want company?" He asks, almost hesitant as if maybe he shouldn't ask.

Shiloh shakes her head, nodding towards the door. "Guess I don't have a choice."

Hamartia: Chapter 17 ↳ solutions

After talking with Bruce, they agreed not to tell Shiloh. Instead, Banner said he'd ask Shiloh for a blood draw as just another test and she wouldn't think much of it. It's a long shot that Peter's idea will work and neither of them want to bring it up to Shiloh on the chance it doesn't work. Why get her hopes up only to be let down? Unfortunately, her idea of using an arc reactor has a higher possibility of keeping her alive longer, having something attached to her to constantly stabilize the extremis isn't a bad idea. It's just not the best solution with the risks that entails. It's still better than dying but it's not great. So, Banner just tells Peter to let her work on it until he has an answer on if this will work and so Peter does.

Peter goes back to the lab where Shiloh is buried in metals and other materials, a hologram of the plans lighting up blue in front of her face. He wasn't really gone that long and yet here's Shiloh, ahead of the game which should come as no surprise. She knew the ins and outs of Tony's arc reactor so of course she can replicate it.

"Where'd you run off to?" Shiloh asks, noticing Peter coming through the door.

"Uh...." Peter pauses, not sure what to say. He didn't really think about that. "I, uh, I thought I had something in my room....to help." Peter lies and he's hoping she doesn't notice. He's never been a good liar but Shiloh has always been able to pick exactly when he's lying.

"Oh, did you?" Shiloh questions, not really looking at him, too focused on what she was going to notice the lie

He wasn't really gone that long, but something in the back of his head just felt like him leaving had betrayed the tower. So in a way, it felt like he wasn't quite welcome anymore. Peter knew that wasn't the case and no one had even done or said anything to give him that impression. It's mostly just the nasty voices of guilt and regret lingering in the back of his head.

As for Shiloh, it just felt awkward in a way. She was so happy he was back because that meant he was safe and sound. He wasn't wandering the streets looking for another fix or some petty crime situation. He was here, with her, in the tower and he was safe and seemed to be happy. But, she's wary. The last time he was here, the last time she let him fully into the safety and comfort of her home, he left, which to be fair was partially her doing with her telling to him leave but he did leave. She's afraid he'll leave again.

There's that saying, something Ned had even told her. You can't save someone that doesn't want to be saved. If Peter leaves again, does that mean, from the bottom of his heart, he doesn't want to be saved? Shiloh tried so hard to save him before because she knew the Peter she once knew was still in there and somewhere deep inside his cold lifeless exterior, he wanted to be saved and she was right.

never-ending plot bunnies  /  margaret “maggie” moran.

several years ago, margaret went on an overnight school trip. three days later, she came back and her father was dead, murdered by her older brother who threw himself off of the city hall’s sky bridge. there was no body to be found. the only one willing to look after her was carlysle, the family’s head maid, and they made a quiet but stable life for themselves. but there were always too many questions lingering in the back of margaret’s mind: what really happened that day? why did her brother do it? where are her brother’s remains and, if there are none, where is he now?

her answers can only be found in one place: the east side. and so she escapes there under the cover of darkness. she is no longer margaret moran. instead, she is simply maggie, unassuming and blending into the crowd. she will get her answers, and the first stop in her search is a bar. pipe cat.
