The Times they are a-changing
youtube
Lyrics:
Come gather around people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone And if your breath to you is worth saving Then you better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changingCome writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no telling who that it's naming For the loser now will be later to win Cause the times they are a-changingCome senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's the battle outside raging It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls For the times they are a-changingCome mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is rapidly aging Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand Cause the times they are a-changingThe line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slowest now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is rapidly fading And the first one now will later be last Cause the times they are a-changing
Explanation:
Bob Dylan is a famous author-composer which made some big changes during the 60s. A clear example is this song, which critizices the society at the time and it also gives some clear messages about time. Time is always moving forward and everything changes. He is also giving advices to politicians who were blocking progress and also with the civil rights movement. Also he’s stating that people shouldn’t be so against change, because changes will always happen and there is no way to prevent it or you metaphorically will “sink lik a stone”. This is considered to be one of the best songs of the 20th century, both by its music and it’s powerful and meaningful lyrics.

You’ll see why 1984 won’t be like 1984.
youtube
The 1984 Apple Macintosh Commercial. Most people get confused with this commercial, it is because it has a meaning. It was based on a book called 1984 by George Orwell (written in 1949), it described a future dominated by a totalitarian government and the population treated as sheeps. Apple meant to prove that that future was not going to be like that, Individualism would be in the actual 1984, and indiviualism came with the new Macintosh. This followed one of the companies principles, be different and don’t go with what others do (which in this case was buying IBM computers). Much has change with Apple since then.

Note on my Posts
As you may have noticed, I have been posting lots about the World Wars. The reason for this is that we are having the WW1 centenary and it is a hot topic at the moment. Also it is worth noticing these crucial events, becaused these heavily changed history forever. I will try to find more historical pictures about something other than the World Wars. I will try...

On November 20, 1917, the British forces started to use tanks in the Battle of Cambrai on the Western Front. This historical moment proved pivotal in the war; because the Allies had a weapon that the Central Powers hadn’t yet fully developed. Although most of these tanks got stuck in the mud or stopped working (due to this being experimental technology at the time), some got through no-man’s land and broke the stalemate. Once again, this is what made WW1 so unique, old generals and strategy clashing with new technology.

On November 18th, 1916, General Douglas Haig called it of at the First Battle of Somme. One of the most horrific battles in human history. It is an event that actually occured 100 years ago. How time goes through; how much humanity has changed after that day. It is also interesting to notice that people thought that the War to End all Wars was going to end by DEcember 1914, but it went much longer than expected.

The first atomic bomb ever tested (July 16, 1945), the Trinity Bomb. The first image shows the stages of the explosion, also with the Empire State Building as scale. The second photo shows what the Manhattan Project scientists were trying to achieve. The third photo shows the explosion seconds after in color. J. Robert Oppenheimer, the leading scientist of the project, saw all the damage this new weapon caused. After witnessing the test he recalled a this phrase form Bhagadad-Vita: “Now, I am become death, the destroyer of worlds”

A tornado hits Washington D.C. on November 17, 2016. It caused $1 in damage and left 50 people injured. This is worth noticing due to the rareness of a tornado striking a city so East like Washington D.C.

Welcome!
What you will see on this blog is all about history; but more specifically, history that was recorded using cameras. There are two sections (posibly three somewhere in the future): today in history and random photo posts. I will ONLY cover modern history, because that’s when cameras started to appear as a new way to record things. Sorry I’m a bit late with this welcome post, this is due to the fact that I had some historic moments I wanted to share!
