[10.43 P.M.] a cool breeze brushed your face. as you sat, waiting for your bus, you begin to wonder; how did you and Jaehyun become a thing? maybe it’s the 3 a.m. calls almost daily, or the random check-in texts the both of you did just so that, you both keep each other feel alright?

or maybe it’s that one time where he sang “I like me better when I’m with you” to you that made you fall deeper in love with him? the answer was: all of the above. adventurous outings, late nights, boring afternoons, naps at the most random times of a day were never the same without him.

a tear runs down your face. you miss him. a lot. you couldn’t live without him. and yet, why did you break up with him? you asked yourself that one too many times. he was the one. the one that never fails to make you happy just by the simplest actions.

as your bus arrives, you stood up with an answer from your thoughts. “we’re just two puzzle pieces that are loose even when we fit. perfect for the moment, but never forever.” you said, wiping the tears streaming down your face. you boarded the bus, leaving the city for your dream, away from Jaehyun.

[3:08P.M.] you walked around the grocery store with your mother, helping her carry the basket while she chose the freshest veggies in the aisle. you usually wouldn’t give yourself a full face of makeup and dress up unless you’re going shopping, therefore you left your natural habitat in your bare face and the random tee and sweats that you’ve been wearing for the past day.

you didn’t plan to go with your mother, but only because you were bored out of your mind, that’s why. it’s good to go out for fresh air occasionally, right?

“Y/N, could you please help me get pasta? I’ll be at the seafood section.” your mother said.

“alright,” you answered.

looking into the far distance to look for the dried goods section, your eyes caught someone good-looking. or rather, eye-catching. ‘oh shit, what in the world-‘ you thought. not sparing a moment, you immediately whipped out your phone to text your friends:

getting nearer to the subject of interest quickly but in discreet to avoid getting captured by his attention was nerve-wracking. making sure to turn your flash off and that your phone is in silent mode, you walked past in front of him, snapping a picture in the action of calling someone.

‘that was stressful…’ you thought as you fast-walked to the next aisle. after sending the slightly blurry picture of the good-looking man, your friends immediately replied. ‘huh, that’s rare. they never reply fast enough when it comes to something else…’ you shaded your friends before going back into the chat group.

at this point, you had already forgotten about the pasta that your mother had asked you to bring from the dried foods section. you casually rolled your eyes at the replies, thinking that it’ll be a miracle if he would even notice you. testing your thoughts, you looked back up to find the bright pink-haired guy staring at you.

“what the fuck-“ you accidentally said out loud, gaining a tiny but painful slap on your arm. you yelled silently, turning your head to see your mother beside you.

“language Y/N! didn’t I tell you to take the pasta while I was busy at the seafood section?” she reprimanded.

“mom i’m sorry- just give me a minute please?” you begged your mother, shifting your attention back to the man whom you just realised that he wasn’t there anymore.

“wait. where did he go?” you questioned.

“who?” your now confused mother asks as she looks around.

thinking that looking around would bring him back, you realised that things doesn’t always go your way and giving up right now would probably be a better choice.

sad and defeated, you gave your attention to your mother. “ugh never mind, I’ll go get it now…”

well, were you just admiring someone good-looking, or are you having attachment issues with a stranger? why are you so upset by it? you certainly don’t deserve to be disappointed by something like this. with those negative thoughts on your mind, you continued following your mother blindly around the grocery store without looking around your surroundings as you reflected hard.

what happens when you do things while being distracted with your thoughts? yeah, shit does happen unexpectedly. walking around randomly at the snack aisle, you overheard someone calling a name.

“Mark! can you help me get the chips?”

“uh I’m pretty sure you could go get it yourself,” another voice responds.

“dude you’re the only one who’s free right now! didn’t you volunteer to come with us? don’t go back on your word, young man!”

“okay, okay, chill, I’ll go get it lol.” as you heard that, you looked over to where it was coming from and accidentally locked eyes with the boy that you were fretting over earlier. immediately looking away and embarrassed, you quickly snatched a random bag of chips and walked away. ‘WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT oh my god that was so awkward!’ you scolded yourself in your head.

rushing to find your mother around the many aisles that she could be, you felt a tap on your shoulder. you turned around expecting the person behind you was your mother, but jumped when you saw someone else instead. it was that pink-haired boy that you had way too many embarrassing moments with, and his name is Mark from what you heard earlier.

“hey uhm, my name’s Mark and I’ve noticed you around the store a couple of times and I found you quite interesting so… I wanna ask you out. I MEAN AS A CASUAL FRIEND DATE!” he spat out quickly.

“that, dang, did you just rap?” you got shook by how fast he was speaking.

he laughed and replied, “actually, I do rap! with my band, NCT! but that isn’t important right now,” surprised and amused, you mouthed an ‘ah’ and nodded, casually adding in a “that’s actually really cool!” comment. silence quickly fell in and Mark scratched his eyebrow while you were looking around, avoiding his eyes as it was way too awkward.

“uhh! I forgot to introduce myself, I- I’m Y/N…” you tried to fix the awkwardness in the air.

laughing nervously, he continued in a flirty tone, “yes! uhm I was gonna ask, anyway! so, what do you think about… a date?”

“a date?”

“oh I mean, a “casual friend date”, if you don’t mind.”

“sureeee, a “casual friend date” sounds good,” you smiled as you answered with both of your hands drew quotation marks in the air.

Jaehyun is the one guy favoured by all. you didn't think you'd be friends with him one day, let alone pay attention to you. but after he sat next to you in class, he found himself beside you more often and becoming best friends in no time. you were very much surprised to be a quiet person like you are usually, that he would hang out with you. even the campus gossiped about you both for a while after you unexpectedly hanged out with him.

with the vibe Jaehyun had around him, you instantly hated him the first time you met each other. but it all changed after he managed to treat you to coffee, ending up spending hours there just talking about life. you found out that he isn’t what he’s always like, cold and a dry texter type of guy. actually kind and friendly, he also likes getting you to be adventurous, trying many new things you wouldn’t usually go for.

the amount of time you had spent around him was ridiculous, it’s like you can’t live without him. of course, you started developing feelings for him over time. you can’t remember when exactly, but you were clear of it after he hung out a couple times with a girl named Wendy. you couldn’t understand why you were jealous of them at first, but your knowledge of how protagonists fall in love in k-dramas and fiction stories made you realise you were crushing on him.

finally, out of your tiny daydream, you got out of your bed to check yourself. you looked exactly to what you thought you would look like, a whole wreck. unlike you, when some people wake up, they actually look good, like Jaehyun. what in the world was god thinking while he was making you and Jaehyun? did he miss an ingredient or something?

a knock was heard when you were combing your hair. immediately knowing who it was, you shouted, “come in!”. Jaehyun walked in and was scared by your glaring looks at him. “okay, I’m sorry for calling you so late at night. let’s go!” he said.

“but I have to look decent!” you replied.

“ma’am you look perfectly fine to me, let’s get going right now!” he said while dragging you away while snatching the comb off your hands.

sitting outside the 24/7 convenience store, Jaehyun told you to wait for him. you looked up to the sky, stars shining bright. it’s beautiful but, it constantly reminds you of how Jaehyun’s like the stars. so fucking gorgeous, people admiring him just like how people admire stars. yet you’re just an ordinary girl, working hard in school and getting good grades to graduate university just to get a good job in life without having fun in your school years. that was your plan until he came along.

you couldn’t believe that someone like him found you entertaining. he told you once that you were fun to be with. he told you that you’re a great person. he told you that he loves how you treat people equally, even him. those words made your heart flutter. sometimes you just want to shout your feelings out for him, you want to be with him forever. he makes you feel happy and worth. all the times he made you feel better after a bad mood, or whenever you get your period, he never fails to surprise you. your favourite foods? his appearance? simply anything he does just makes you smile.

the thing is you didn’t have the courage. you tried multiple times to hint that you like him, but it didn’t work. getting scared that one day you’d miss the chance of being with him, you had to build tons and tons of courage. obviously, the number one reason for not telling him about your feelings was quite obvious you were scared that he won’t be able to reciprocate your feelings and end up ruining the friendship the both of you have built up over the past year.

but today, right now, you felt like it was now or never. you are ready to risk your friendship for love. was it the energetic feeling of being awake at 3 a.m.? or just the sight of how you saw Wendy was all over Jaehyun last week made you bold? you couldn’t take it anymore; you were sick of it. ‘okay, don’t be nervous, don’t back down you scaredy-cat. when he comes out you must tell him.’ you assured, telling yourself that it’ll be okay.

the moment Jaehyun pushed the door of the convenience store open, you stood up and gathered your courage to speak out your feelings to him. “Jaehyun! I-I have something to tell you…” you stuttered for a moment, nervous of what was to come. “okay… you seem a little nervous,” he answered as he sets down the ramen and snacks he was carrying.

“you know, w-we have been f-friends for quite some time n-now right, Jaehyun?” you said, eyes starting to water. you felt so overwhelmed by your feelings for him, along with the turning feeling inside you.

“Y/N, calm down, are you okay? you’re making me nervous.”

“no-no, I’m fine, just listen to me yeah,” you assured him. “uhm, I’m really thankful for all the times you’ve spent with me. I’m so happy that you became my best friend and whatever happens, you’re still my friend, right?” you asked with a cracked voice, twisting one of your rings around your finger.

“you… did something wrong? or you don’t want to hang out with me anymore?” he questioned nervously speaking fast and hands turning clammy. he liked your company, a lot. which explains why he was really scared that you would leave him one day.

“no Jaehyun, listen to me. I-I uh, I really like you. like, like-like you, and I can’t stand the sight of you and Wendy together anymore. I can’t help but feel so pissed off and jealous all the time even if I don’t show it. I’m sorry for that and you probably don’t like me back. I think just ruined our friendship; I hope we still can be friends after this.” you spilled, fingers fidgeting and tears running down your face.

you looked at him for a response. no matter what it’s gonna be, you told yourself you’ll accept it even if it’s a rejection. but all he did was to stare at you with such intense eyes. it wasn’t sadness, lust, or hatred. you couldn’t make out the emotions he’s having, therefore you decided to leave since you ruined the atmosphere.

“I-I should just go…”

you stood up to walk back to your apartment, feeling so overwhelmed from your confession. you felt so sad but so good that finally, you spilled your feelings out. the stuffiness was gone, but the thought that you will never be the same around Jaehyun again made you feel worse.

turning to the direction of your apartment, you felt Jaehyun grabbing your arm. “what now?” you coldly reply turning around to shake his grip off you. somehow, he managed to hug you. “Y/N. I’ve been meaning to tell you this for a long time now. the reason why I’m asking you out for ramen right now was to tell you, I have liked you since the first time we’ve met.” he spoke calmly, holding you tight. as a response to his words, you hugged him back. you never thought that he would like you back, especially the way he treated you usually.

however, inside his mind was full of regrets, regretting that you were the one to confess first and not him. it should be jealousy, but he regretted that he made you wait too long. also, the fact that you thought he and Wendy were in flirting terms made his heart break a little.

“but I thought you liked Wendy,” you questioned, breaking his train of thought.

“since when? she’s irritating, I only saw her as a friend,” he assured you.

the moment he told you that, you began to cry harder. of all the times you saw them together and telling yourself that he doesn’t like you, were purely just some imagination that you perceived yourself to believe. he pulled away, hands now holding your waist. attempting to wipe your tears away, you ended up crying more out of joy. you couldn’t believe it.

“are you sure you like me?” you ask as a confirmation.

“yes Y/N. I’m in love with you.”

okay not to be a downer but petitions won’t do anything for lebanon, reading a carrd by a westerner who has literally no clue what is going on apart from what the western media has told them won’t do anything for lebanon so it’s better if you read what an actual lebanese person has to say (their views on current political parties do not reflect every person from lebanon’s views, but at least it isn’t feeding into us imperialistic propaganda). signing petitions isn’t helping. please donate. this twitter thread explains why USD donations are important in this situation and provides links to many gofundme’s / other methods of donating. one of them leads to the Lebanese Red Cross app, and this explains in more detail on how you can donate. it isn’t a government organization, and according to people in the replies, the red cross is the best option and though the red cross in other countries have a bad reputation, this is apparently not associated with any other foundation. donating to individual people in lebanon might not work because their currency has been losing its value over the past couple months, so the best option is donate to organizations like Global Impact and the Red Cross, food banks, and gofundmes where the person will make sure the money is converted themselves (not through the website), also i would considering checking this account, they are part of an independently owned Lebanese media/news site and is actively updating their account / setting up new fundraisers and providing resources. make sure to check who you are donating to, you don’t have to donate to EVERYTHING you see but if you actually want to help, do not just sign petitions. donate to people or at least get others to donate if you currently don’t have the means to do so.

[3:50PM] you found a new mate, at the age of 5. his name is jaehyun. yet he's a little bit special; an imaginary friend with whom you're always chatting to, from your tiny crushes to ranting about your mom whenever you disagree or got reprimanded by her. often ditching going to the park for him, it shows how precious he is to you. you could never, compare playing with him to your other peers.

at the age of 13, the amount of time you spent with him will gradually decrease as you grew older due to you being more socialized in school. you're always talking to him and hanging out whenever you're at home, gossiping about friends or crushing. he's someone you can put your trust in, no matter what. it makes your heart flutter. however, the attention you've given him isn't like what it used to be.

you rarely see him again by the age of 18. there was much less communication. you still see him occasionally; he looks much more grown up, a handsome man that’s only your imagination. he would call out for you sometimes, but you rarely responded. slowly, he vanishes, the memories of him have faded.

during summer of the following year, you went to the café nearby your college. as you entered the place, you're greeted by a familiar voice, "welcome!”. it was jaehyun. who knew someone you once held so much love for was actually real?
