Okay, look. In show, Sokka dated 2 people, and neither time he really asked them out. Just said vauge things and then apparently they were dating. Zuko is oblivious. I'm just saying that Sokka would 100% do the same things, assume they’re dating, and Zuko wouldnt think anything of it.

I think it would go a little something like this.

Z: So, it’s been a while, and you don’t have to accept if you don’t want to, I get it, and if it makes you uncomfortable we can just forget this ever happened, okay?

S, (thinking it’s a proposal): what is it?

Z: I…. Would you go on a date with me?

S: ……

Z: I’ve liked you for a long time, and uncle has kept telling me to just ask, so i figured… uh…

S: ………….

Z: …sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking. Just- forget about it, ok?

S: …you’re joking, right?

Z: ….no?

S (startled laughter): oh, oh spirits. You’re not joking?? What the fuck. Tsu and La what the ever loving fuck.

Z (bristling): look, if you don’t want to you can just say no, but this feels excessive.

S: literally what the fuck, it’s been over 2 years, our 3 year anniversary is in a few months.

S: it was at the fire festival? We watched the fireworks together?? We stole a boat and went out on the lake after just the two of us???

Z: we- we borrowed that boat…

Z: you…. you never asked. To go on a date.

S: no?? I litterly did???

Z: you asked if I wanted to go to the festival with you. I said yes. You asked if I wanted to go on the lake. I said yes. You asked me if I wanted to go to your room after and make the worlds worst pillow fort. I said yes. You never asked if I wanted to go on a date.

Z: what??

S: that is exactly how you ask someone on a date. You just described me taking you on a date.

Z: …….oh.

S (snorting): yeah, oh.

Z …….so is it a yes?

I just saw a Zukka post that made realize one thing.

The Zukka stans actually understand what shipping is supposed to be!

Zuko and Sokka had 2 episodes for themselves in the whole show! They barely interacted in a positive way for the other 59 episodes and yet they took the scraps and are actually having fun with it!

Shipping is supposed to be taking two of our dolls and having them kiss and smooche and do other stuff, never mind canon.

I am not quite sure how or why there's a fandom perception that Zuko is a "theatre nerd". Yes he's a big fan of the play "Love Amongst Dragons" in the series, and I checked out the parts of comics that have that play.

However. I'm at a film school and I'm surrounded by theatre nerds. I hear actors practicing their screaming and yelling down the hall at least once a week. From my experience, Zuko doesn't behave this way, instead he seems much more like a fandom guy. He'd literally be in the fandom trenches arguing with people about narrative points and naively engaging trolls with his earnest arguments. Doesn't he seem like someone who'd run a "Love Amongst Dragons defense" blog to you? His drama doesn't stem from a desire to make everything about himself dramatic, it stems from extreme frustration because he brute forces everything by going with his head through a wall.
