Give me a fanfiction trope and I’ll grade it:

A: Love it. Spend my time combing AO3 for it.

B: Like it. Not one of my bigger cravings, but it can scratch a certain itch if I’m in the right mood.

C: Neutral. A good author might be able to sell it, but a bad one will kill it deader than dead.

D: Not my favorite. I avoid it if I can, but it won’t necessarily put me off reading something.

F: Hate it. Will immediately make me nope out of a fic.

So.

Martin Kove attacked and bit Alicia Hannah-Kim unprovoked.

He caused her physical pain and emotional distress.

Even though she was in no way obligated, she gave him grace by giving him the opportunity to apologize and/or explain his actions and move on from this incident.

He did not take that opportunity, instead he reacted with more violence and yelled at his victim as if SHE had done something wrong… as if SHE were making things worse.

No sir!

There has been some discussion that dementia could be a mitigating factor.

And while there is never a bad time to have this discussion and the devastating effects this disease can have on the person and their loved ones… and my heart goes out to anyone in this situation because I can tell you from experience it’s not easy in the slightest… that being said, let’s not lose focus on the situation here.

I don’t discount dementia or some type of disease could factor into Kove’s behavior.

However, given my personal experience with a family member who is experiencing dementia, I can tell you for a fact that, yes, dementia can cause changes in a person’s behavior… but it can also worsen the behavior that’s already there.

The family member in question is someone who, quite frankly, has always been angry and a jerk — at times they’ve been malicious. Their dementia has compromised their ability to control their behavior in public — they’ve never particularly worried about their image in private.

The red flags for me concerning Kove’s motive and actions are:

1 — Bill Hader’s now viral story of the time Kove was deliberately a jerk to him. Not just for a single moment, but continuously. *And this, btw, is yet another instance in which Kove created an issue and then blamed his victim for the situation… is seemingly apologetic afterwards, and then continues to behave in a harmful manner. Which tells me Alicia called it when she insisted on having this documented in case he does something else or something worse — and she was smart to do it.

2 — Couple this with the recent article of Kove coming out in support of Trump naming Stallone an ambassador and how Stallone will help keep politics out of Hollywood… this says a lot…

A LOT.

It reeks of ignorance, it reeks of privilege, and it reeks of entitlement.

All three of which are driving forces behind someone who behaved the way Kove did.

And it wasn’t until the cop was present and he was on camera did he calm down enough and apologize.

As Alicia put it, “it took this whole emotional support group therapy to get an apology… I had to do the emotional work for you…”

Dementia is possibly involved, but it’s not the underlying cause of this incident. This was present long before. It simply exacerbated a mentality that was already there.

And I’m proud of and happy that Alicia stood up for herself and did not hold back. She is a WOC who was not about to carry that emotional weight and unburdened herself to the privileged and more powerful man who deserved it.

Good for her.

But if CK fandom wants to go at her, just know you are running up on the Supernatural fandom, and THEY don’t mess around.

The technical term for this phenomenon is the Daniel LaRusso Derangement Syndrome and the Straight Man’s Aggressive Response to Ralph Macchio.

I’ve said many times (in my head) that he is neither feminine or feminine-coded.

He just isn’t your typical toxic masculine trope.

Sidenote — ironically, the only one not obsessed with him and normal about him is Mike Barnes. Who’d a thought?

I kinda wish someone would write a story about Terry’s fixation with Daniel through CK Mike Barnes’ POV.

Dude I swear Daniel Larusso does something to heterosexual men. I saw your post about Daniel being fruity and OMG the amount of heterosexual men that I know that 'hate' his guts but simultaniously think he is pretty is INSANE!!!

CRYING IT'S SO FUNNY HOW HEATED SOME PEOPLE WOULD GET ABOUT DANIEL, TRULY!! And once you think about the film's themes surrounding masculinity, gender dynamics, and conformity, the position Daniel is in stands to confuse, or even weaken, the doctrines certain men hold so tightly as their ideals and perceptions of "acceptable" manhood.

It is incredibly funny how often those type of people would call Daniel pretty, or any other feminizing term/descriptor — but as an insult, of course. Nevermind they're compliments — for girls — because Daniel isn't "supposed" to be complimented, like how girls are. He's supposed to be complimented like how men are. And those men will often insult his "lack" of masculinity; because he has cute features, because he doesn't pack a lot of muscle, because he's short, because he doesn't fight.

Daniel isn't even that feminine in canon (from the perspective of a person living in the 21st century at least), and lots of his traits and interests are still categorized as masculine by societal standards; his love of cars, his hotheadedness, his husky voice, his position as the protector of his family. But Daniel's masculinity will still questioned or made fun of by the most mocking and dismissive of cisgender heterosexual men, because the question of acceptable manhood is a trap. Daniel won't win by the rules of their game. But Daniel is not playing in it, and that's what, I think, gets them so mad about him.

the thing that really gets me about danzen is that chozen was the first person to unconditionally believe what daniel told him about silver. the first person to not make fun of him or question his memory or tell him that it couldn't have been that bad. instead, he tells him, "it's okay. i've got you. and if he wants to hurt you ever again, he's gonna have to go through me"
