The long, bitterly cold walk that you hope doesn’t happen to many times throughout the night. Sleeping in a small, cold adobe with 12 people isn’t exactly the most private place to use a pee bottle at night so you do the walk. I’ll spare the rest of the details, but the stars sure were pretty out there as you looked up and enjoyed the view.

Cold mornings in Western Mongolia. The sun doesn't rise until 9:30 AM and the cold morning temps make it an uncomfortable to get out of your warm sleep bag. Good thing this place is so inspiring and there is so much to experience. It surely keeps us motivated.

There's just something strange about waking up to a large eagle next to you every morning. Even after a few days of sleeping next to this magnificent bird I still could believe the whole experience was real.

This was one my favorite shoots in 2014. It still gives me the chills thinking about swimming in that cold, dark water 2 miles off the coast of New Zealand searching for sharks with Shark Researcher Riley Elliott.

Gareth Jones tops out from super fun deep water soloing and takes in the another beautiful sunset. Raglan, New Zealand - This was such a fun to trip to NZ a few years ago. Waking up in the camper on the beach, surfing all morning and afternoon, then finish the day off with a paddle across the bay for some deep water soloing to watch the sunset. Thanks to the great crew in Raglan for giving me such an epic tour, (minus the sketchy caving in the #rattlesnake)I can’t wait to get back for more!

The crack climbs at Mount Woodson may be short, but they certainly make up for it in quality and difficulty. Nothing like 30’ splitter spankings all day long. Ryan Mitchell sending one of Woodson’s classics, Rockwork Orange.

Mr. Brainwash photographed in Irvine, California at the Peak Mind event, a joint celebration of compassion and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday.
-
These portraits, taken on 4th of July, a joint celebration of compassion and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday, are in the spirit of illuminating the interconnected essence we all share. The campaign seeks to embody the messages of compassion, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence that is at the heart of both the Dalai Lama and Peak Mind's mission. It is hard to describe with words the positive energy surrounding the event, but these photos capture the passion invoked by the Dalai Lama's words and the inner presence of love in each of the subjects. The concept for this shoot was to photograph each subject in a state of mediation, in a personal moment, in which they were focusing on compassion for the world around them. This is a very private and vulnerable place to be while having someone make a photograph of you. It was beautiful to watch people slowly become comfortable with the process and gently let themselves go in front of the camera. I used subtle lighting, negative space and dark tones to bring a since of intimacy, making the subjects feel as if they were emerging from another place, another world. Each photograph that truly resonates with the message of compassion the event represented so well.

There’s something so peaceful and simple about the thought of sailing home on the wind and waves at the end of a hard days work. It kind of makes me think twice about our busy lives, all of the time we spend in the big cities working our asses off, sitting in traffic, all the stress and so far away from nature and those quite moments we need to reflect on our own existence. Let’s hope we are all making the right choices with the time we have. I can’t wait to get back on the road for more of those quite moments.

Watching the sunrise over Lombak from the top of Gunung Agung in Bali, Indonesia is a one of the coolest sunrises to experience on the island. You start out at 2AM from the mother temple, Pura Besakih, in the jungle,. Then, you spends hours, step after slippery step making your way to summit for an unforgettable sunrise. - The Balinese believe that Mount Agung is a replica of Mount Meru, the central axis of the universe. One legend holds that the mountain is a fragment of Meru brought to Bali by the first Hindus.
