i don’t think steve is as cocky as ponyboy makes him out to be. he definitely is in some ways, but generally he isn’t. for the most part he’s probably bitter, which likely stems from envy. i feel like steve is an insecure, unstable person who has a love-hate relationship with people who he thinks are better than him. for instance, sodapop. he’s carefree, extroverted and adored by many. steve admires him for those qualities. he hasn’t had much positivity in his life and soda is one of the main contributing components to steve’s happiness. but that also annoys him. he’s annoyed that he relies on factors he doesn’t relate to in order to stimulate his imagination of an ideal life and persona. this implies that he himself isn’t good enough and never will be.

he’s heard countless amounts of times that other people aren’t responsible for his insecurities and that those who act out on their jealousy are cruel and restrictive in allowing other people to be happy with themselves and live their best lives. because of how villainous this makes him feel, he keeps quiet about his problems which has caused a lot of bitterness and anger to build up. he’s honestly so tired of it and just wishes that somebody would understand him and hear him out on his feelings.

I would like to thank rick riordan for beginning my habit of constantly drinking water, so that I am never dehydrated. As a small child reading Percy Jackson for the first time, and wishing that I had any dad but my own, I saw a character with a family kinda like mine who got powerful when water was involved! So what do I do?? Drink lots of water so I can be like him!!! Thanks Percy Jackson for making sure I stayed hydrated for a few years, and for making it a habit!
