Tifa Lockhart's characterization is funny to me cause I imagine back in 1997 she was premier tomboy material but nowadays she strikes as entirely femme. The only thing that's even slightly tomboyish about her is her fighting style and nothing about that really meshes with her personality in a way that makes sense
#tifa's name is literally lockhart because it's meant to tell you about her character#lockhart = locked + heart#she's shy and keeps her feelings bottled up#which is the opposite of how she presents as a fighter + having a 'sexy' presentation in her appearance#whereas aerith is the exact opposite#outspoken personality + more modest 'innocent' looking appearance#this contrast of the two of them is SO IMPORTANT to me#and i think it's one of the most clever things square did for their characters by subverting the expectations#makes me sad a lot of this has been lost to the sands of time#glad this post is out here keeping this all important narrative going!!!#final fantasy
