To me Babs being Oracle is so important to both the DC universe(s) and to her character, like she was a good character before but Oracle always felt more alive than Batgirl, it’s Oracle who works as an information broker, not Batgirl, Batgirl fights crime on the streets like Batman, Batwoman and Robin(s), and, while that’s obvious, being Oracle creates so much more depth for the interpersonal relationships she has because she is in such constant contact with those people, whether they know it’s Babs or not.

She also allows crucial information in the stories to be explained while not just being, ‘ Batman is the worlds greatest detective therefore he has all the answers,’ because while there is nothing wrong with that it becomes overused quickly. Babs being Oracle means that the people and teams she helps can focus on the jobs that they are supposed to be doing while still having a general sense of security and a sense that someone is looking out for them. That, in turn, means that the readers can being to grasp the story as the characters do, find things out while they are learnt.

Also having the literal daughter of a police commissioner be a vigilante-turned-information-broker is just downright badass.

Like this girl knows how things work in this city and how people keep it in check and by god is that an advantage and she uses it, as she should.

I also want to point out that Batgirl seems to be a right of passage thing rather than a permanent (sort of) identity, more akin to the way Robin is rather than the Batman it shares part of its name with.

Also Babs choosing to call herself after the Greek deliverers of prophecy rather than the female version of Batman (Batwoman was taken when she became Batgirl) shows her ability to exist as her own character rather than just an extension of Batman.

If you can’t tell I really like Oracle, I could write about her for hours but it’s late so this is all I can coherently put together off the top of my head.

Ok so everything about Iskierka's hatching was amazing. I love her already. The way Temeraire goes from being super protective of and kind to her egg, to immediately squabbling with her like they're siblings is sooooo funny!I am so ready for Temeraire's inevitable transformation into a protective, loyal, and sweet but also petty and sniping older brother.

And Granby gets to harness her!!! I'm so happy for him, he finally gets his own dragon! And Temeraire being jealous of Iskierka "No! Granby is my first lieutenant! She can't have him!" I love him so much.

And just the general adorableness of Iskierka, how she's so bloodthirsty and immature, and offended at her own smallness, and when she gets scared she wraps around Granby like a hug??????? And he's choking and getting stabbed by her spikes but he doesn't even give a shit because he is so over the moon to have her! AAAHHHHH

Presumably Laurence is just out of frame the whole time, watching Granby with his new dragonet, both delighted to watch Granby struggle with raising an unruly dragonet, and warmed by watching them bond, just as he did Temeraire.

The whole scene and flight to Danzig is an 11/10, no notes, I will be getting the whole thing tattooed on my face.

Excerpt from Observations on the Order Draconia in Europe, with Notes on the Oriental Breeds by Edward Howe

As a lifelong birder, I couldn't stop thinking about a comment from an earlier post about the possibility of dragon-spotters in England. So I (naturally) mocked up a page based on my bird field guides to show differences in size, weight and wing shape between the common british dragons. These are all the undersides of wings as they would be seen from the ground. The book title/author is stolen directly from His Majesty's Dragon.

I'm still basing the shape/silhouette/function off of birds, listed below if you were curious:

Hello there folks!

A major publisher in my country just published (finally!) the translation for Black Powder War this January 2024, and I wanna show you the Indonesian cover for Temeraire series so far!

I don't think the dragons are accurate and I have no idea who the fuck is that man in book 1, but I think there are very pretty, especially the gold colorings.

I also wanna explain some funny translation things, which may contain spoiler, so beware.

So that guy clearly is not Will Laurence. And the funny thing is, the meaning of the title "Naga Sang Kaisar" is more closer to "Emperor's Dragon" than "His Majesty's Dragon"

I mean they can perfectly chose Raja (King) to translate "His Majesty", but they chose Kaisar (Emperor) instead. Maybe it is a winkwink spoilery thing to sneakily hint who the actual intended resipient for Celestial egg is.

In that case—is that Napoleon then???

Anyway, I just know that, because of this cover, the new reader in my country will always pictured Laurence with dark hair until in the book six or something when they'll be like, wait, he is bLOND??

The ship and the water in book 3 cover should be for book 2. And the building in book 2 cover is resembling Istanbul's palace more than China's. Don't you think?

There is not even a ship in the book 3 other than Allegiance in the chapter one, right?

The sun shining in book 2 cover potrayed desert pretty clearly, right?

Right?

Am I going crazy?
