See You Again

Aurora is not happy she has to be back on the crutch again. She hobbles into the beanry with a clear frown on her face.
âI thought you retired from the crutch.â Vic says popping a grape in her mouth.
âI fellâŚâ Aurora grumbles.
âYou fell? Are you okay? What happened?â Andy rushes around the beanry island and helps Aurora to the stool.
19 has always been supportive of Aurora and after the candy factory collapse Andy refused to let Aurora be on her own for long. She was the one who found baby DeLuca after all.
âAn intern gently ran into me before PT and Dr. Chung said itâll be better to rehabilitate starting slow.â Aurora steals a grape from Vic.
Vic slaps Auroraâs hand. âHow does someone gently run into you hard enough to put you back on crutches?â
âShe was⌠cute.â Aurora says without thinking.
The youngest firefighter freezes in realization.
Vic cackles. âOhhh, so this wasnât just any intern! She wasnât gentle; she was distracting! That mustâve been some good ramming. Okay, Rori, I see you!ââ
âNo! Thatâs not what I-. Why do you do that? I donât do this to you and Theo!â
âNo oneâs judging you Rori.â Andy pats Aurora on the shoulder.
âThatâs a lie.â
âWhatâs a lie?â Travis asks as he, Maya, Ben, Sullivan, and Theo enter.
âThat Aurora doesnât want to see the cute intern at Grey Sloan.â
âsei orribile (youâre horrible)â Aurora cradles her head in between her arms.
~~~~~
Aurora grits her teeth as she tried another step up on the low platform, her knuckles white as they gripped the parallel bars. Sweat clung to her temples, and the glare she aimed at Dr. Chung couldâve melted steel.
âTake it slow, Aurora,â Dr. Chung said, the calm in his voice only adding fuel to her frustration.
âI am taking it slow,â Aurora snapped, forcing her foot down onto the platform, then wobbling slightly as her injured leg protested. âIâve been slow for months. I donât want to slow down anymore. I want to help people.â
Dr. Chung raised an eyebrow but didnât flinch. âIf you push too hard, youâll land yourself back here for another round of PT. Again.â
The word again cut through her like a knife. Aurora stepped back down, her jaw tight, her breathing harsh. âIâve already set myself back. I donât need the reminder,â she grumbles.
Dr. Chung leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching her. âThis isnât square one. Youâre better than you were after the collapse. This is just a small hurdle.â
She bit back a bitter laugh. âSure doesnât feel like it.â
From down the hallway, faint laughter and voices filtered inâa group of interns rushing past the glass windows. Aurora turned her head just enough to see them, catching a glimpse of a particular Snow White to anyoneâs Prince Charming with a princess-y kind of name. For the first time that day, a faint smile flickered at the corners of her mouth before she forced it away.
âFocus, Aurora,â Dr. Chung said, stepping forward again. âYouâre almost done. One more set.â
Her grip tightened on the bars as she stepped up onto the platform again. Sweat trickled down the back of her neck, her arms trembling as she steadied herself.
âThere,â Dr. Chung said when she finally stepped down. âSee? You can do it. But Iâm seriousâdonât overdo it.â
âNoted,â she muttered, already grabbing her crutches.
As she moved toward the door, Dr. Chung called after her, âAnd tell that intern not to run into you again.â
Aurora rolled her eyes but couldnât stop the smirk. âIâll try.â
Aurora changed into sweats and her SFD t-shirt with a flannel wrapped around her. She walks towards the exits through the ER out of habit from working the aid car.
âOkay, can you just do it? I mean we are flying by the seat of our pants up there.â
Aurora stops at the familiarity of the voice, a smile reaching her lips. The intern that hasnât left her mind since getting back on crutches.
âNo, I donât really want to lose my job today.â Link retaliates.
Aurora looks between the two further down the hallway, intrigued.
âItâs teaching!â
âOr harassment. And I donât want to tempt fate.â
âWhich one of us is getting actually harassed?â
ââŚFind an actual couple.â
Aurora finally had enough second hand embarrassment when Jules tried to ask Dr. Ndugu if he and Maggie could demonstrate sexual consent. The firefighter tries to stiffen her laugh at the internâs reaction to getting rejected again.
âSomeone called a firefighter for 2 minor burns?â Aurora teases.
Jules looks over at the Italian and her eyes light up.
âYouâre Dr. DeLucaâs sister! You probably know about her study, right? Can you help me? And -uh - you probably have hot sex all the time?â Jules blushes.
Auroraâs eyebrows shot up, and a slow and amused smirk spreads across her face. âHmm. You could always join me. But lead the way, bellissima.â
âI just need you to keep their attention long enough for me to find a couple to talk about this.â
~~~~~
âLook alive people!â Aurora makes her entrance onto the stage. âYes, I am on crutches. No, it is not a sex injury, not this time at least.â
Auroraâs comment earns some chuckles as Jules tries to shrink and hide at the back.
âIâm firefighter DeLuca. Iâve had my fair share of delivering babies in the field. None more terrifying than a teenage girl in her middle school bathroom.â All eyes were on her. âTrust me that was a very awkward conversation to have with her mom⌠who was the principal of the school. But do you know whatâs more awkward than that conversation? Not knowing when or how to have the sexual consent conversation when it matters.â
Teddy and Owen enter.
âBefore I leave you to have that conversation with Dr.Altman and Dr. Hunt remember consent is like fire safety. You always ask before lighting the match. No one wants a fire where it doesnât belong.â
The kids laugh, and Jules is both horrified and impressed.
âDo you always bring up fire in every conversation?â Jules asks.
âSomeoneâs gotta bring the heat,â Aurora smirks.
~~~~~
Aurora watches as Jules and the another intern takes center stage.
âBailey, Jo.â Aurora greets.
âWhy are you here?â Bailey looks around at the kids.
â19 wouldnât let me help at the station so I decided to see what I can do he-â Aurora is cut off by one of the kids.
âWhy is that not in porn?â
âBecause porn is to actual human sex as-â
âThe Fast & Furious is to actual human driving.â Aurora jumps in.
âThat is to say , it bears no resemblance. If you are having sex with your partner, and you are trying to make it look like porn, your partner is experiencing little to no pleasure.â Jules explains.
âI would disagree.â
âWell, you would disagree because the girls you are with are also making it look and sound like porn. But thatâs just an act. A real man would want to give a woman a real orgasm. So you want to be a real man or some candy-ass actor for whom a woman has to pretend to enjoy sex?â The male intern says.
âOr just have amazing sex with a woman,â the intern next to Aurora mutters.
âI second that.â Aurora smiles and fist bumps the intern.
âMika Yasuda.â She introduces.
âAurora DeLuca.â
Neither of the two notices the a certain intern frowning.
~~~~~
Aurora leans against the wall, crutches balanced awkwardly beside her, scrolling through her phone. Sheâs clearly waiting for someone. Jules rounds the corner, her eyes lighting up when she spots Aurora.
âYouâre still here?â Jules asks, her voice tinged with both surprise and something softer.
Aurora looks up, smirking. âYou know, if I didnât know any better, Iâd think you were keeping tabs on me, bellissima.â
Jules rolls her eyes, but the blush creeping up her neck betrays her. âMaybe I just wanted to make sure you didnât trip over another intern on your way out.â
Aurora chuckles, stepping a little closer, or as close as the crutches will allow. âDonât worry, Iâm avoiding interns today. Well, most of them.â Her eyes rake over Jules in a way thatâs anything but subtle.
Jules shifts on her feet, suddenly very aware of the space between them. âHowâs the leg?â
âBetter now,â Aurora quips, her gaze lingering on Julesâs lips for just a beat too long.
Jules swallows hard, trying to keep her voice steady. âYouâre... really something, you know that?â
Aurora raises an eyebrow. âSomething good?â
Jules huffs out a nervous laugh, crossing her arms in a weak attempt to shield herself from Auroraâs charm. âI havenât decided yet.â
âMaybe I should help you make up your mind.â Auroraâs voice drops just enough to send a shiver down Julesâs spine.
The elevator dings, interrupting the tension crackling between them.
Aurora leans in slightly, her breath brushing against Julesâs ear. âSee you around.â She grabs her crutches, her grin smug as she steps into the elevator.
Jules watches the doors close, exhaling a breath she hadnât realized she was holding. A slow smile creeps across her face as she shakes her head.
~~~~~
Aurora practically skips through the beanry on crutches. Catching the tail end of Ben, Travis and Vicâs conversation about an incident at Dixon house.
âOkay, but what if it was like, accidentally shared with the wrong person.â Vic tries to counter Benâs argument.
âStill no.â
âOh câmon Ben.â
âIâm pretty sure Iâve got family who can leak it for you.â Aurora shrugs leaning against the counter.
âThatâs still illegal!â Ben lectures.
Vic hands a half eaten muffin to Aurora as she covers her mouth.
âDid something happen at PT?â Andy asks Aurora.
âIt went as well as any PT session would.â Aurora takes a bite of the muffin before spitting it out in an empty cup on the counter.
Aurora chucks the remaining piece back at Vic.
âHow many more sessions till youâre back?â Andy asks.
âMiss me already, Herrera?â
âI miss you on the field.â
âI should have a week left with the crutches and then we will see if Ross and Diane clear me, at least to be on aid car.â
Vic grins. âBut PT must have healed you right up if youâre smiling like that. Howâs the intern?
Aurora narrows her eyes as she sets her crutches aside. âI was there to help teach kids about sexual consent. It was a noble cause. Not a social visit.â
âSure. Sure.â Travis smirks. âSo..you and the intern talked about sex. Damn you move fast!â Travis holds his hand up for a high five.
âNo,â Aurora insists, grabbing a bottle of water. âShe just asked for help. I stepped in compared sexual consent to fire safety. Thatâs it.â She explains with her hands and Travis takes his moment to finish his high five.
Andy raises an eyebrow. âDidnât you call her cute when you talked about her this morning. Spent an awful lot of time with her if PT ended three hours ago.â
âYou going to see her again?â Theo asks.
âI have PT at the hospital she works at. My older sister works there. And that is our designated hospital!â
âThatâs not a no.â Vic interrupts.
Aurora takes the piece she spat in to the cup into her hand and throws it at Vic.
âRemember how you said my face shows everything. Yours is doing something right now.â Andy gestures to Auroraâs face.
âSheâs coming.â Sullivan calls as Maya enters in workout clothes.
âOkay. Are we ready to be a family again?â Andy tries.
Andy receives confused noises from 19. âAre we ready to be a family again?â She repeats.
A chorus of yes echo in the room.
âThen bring it in 19!â Andy brings everyone into a huddle.
â19!â Everyone cheers together, all except Maya.
~~~~~
19 went to Evaâs place to help Jack with the roof. Because she was benched she joined Jack in the house.
She quickly left Jack alone when her phone lit up with Julesâs contact. Sheâs not beating any allegations about the firefighter and the intern.

Idea for adoption, ON THE CONDITION YOU TAG AND CREDIT ME. Please tag me.
Fandom: Station 19/Greyâs Anatomy
Timeline: starting season 6 of station 19 & season 19 of Greyâs
Context: Aurora âRoraâ DeLuca is a firefighter at Station 19 of the Seattle Fire Department and the younger sister to Carina and Andrew DeLuca.
Previously On: Aurora has been discharged from the hospital after a brutal building collapse. 19 had gotten civilians out and accounted for when the building collapses on the youngest DeLuca. The most notable and severe injury was to her leg.
Summary: As Aurora goes through physical therapy she meets Dr. Jules Millin. The two work around growing feelings and challenging career paths.
~~~~~
My Opening: (feel free to use or change)
âAngioletta? I thought physical therapy starts at 3.â Carina says spotting Aurora in the hallway.
âIt does but I heard there were newbies and I wanted to see the new probies.â
âInterns.â Carina corrects.
âProbies. Interns. Same thing.â Aurora mocks. âIt beats waiting at home.â
âMeredith is taking them to the new OR. I have to go one of my mommies is in labor.â Carina pulls Aurora into a quick hug and kisses her temple.
Aurora wanders the hallway. She meets a force of another body slamming into hers, knocking her onto the ground.
âOoof, and they say firefighters come in hot.â
âIâm so sorry.â The brunette helps Aurora up.
Aurora stumbles up, her leg not fully cooperating as she holds onto the woman for stability. The pain shows on her face.
âAre you okay?â Concern laced in her voice.
âJust give me a second.â Aurora takes a deep breath and slowly puts pressure onto her injured leg.
âAgain, Iâm very sorry.â
âWell judging by the color of your scrubs and your need for speed, you must be one of the new interns.â
âYes,â the intern replies excitedly. âJules Millin.â She sticks out her hand eagerly.
âDeLuca?â Link questions. âAre you okay?â
âIâm fine, just a little stumble is all.â
Link nods, gives the two a look pausing at Jules a little too long. He continues down the path he was taking. âIâll see you in PT.â
âYou know youâre not my doctor anymore!â Aurora shouts after him. âAnd heâs not listening, great.â
âCarina DeLuca? Jules her lips upturn at the realization. âIâve always wanted to meet you, itâs an honor. I read about your study in orgasmâs utility as pain relief.â
âIâm going to stop you right there. Aurora DeLuca. Carinaâs better looking, stronger and sexier little sister.â Aurora shakes Julesâ hand with a smirk. âFirefighter.â
âOh god Iâm sorry.â
Jules flushes. Her neck and ears more red than her face.
âIâm sure youâve got surgeries youâre dying to learn. I on the other hand will try to rip Linkâs head off for my PT plan. Good luck, bellissima (beautiful)â
Only For A Season Pt.1
Part 1 || next>
ââââââââââ
Rosalie occasionally visits Carlisle at the hospital. She would watch as the babies came and go, except a little girl tucked in the top right corner.
The baby girl had dark brunette curls and a cute button nose. Her eyes honed in on the name card above her head. âLauren McCarthyâ.
âYouâre here quite often, darling.â A nurse says to Rosalie.
âMy brother works here, but Iâm just here to watch the babies. Thereâs something about them thatâs so calming.â Rosalie smiles, a hypnotic beauty. âI canât help but notice that little one has been here longer.â
âLauren, poor girl, her mom died in child birth. She was estranged from family so her relatives donât want anything to do with the baby. In a few days if no one comes to get her sheâll have to be put into the system.â
âShould you be telling a stranger that?â Rosalie smirks.
âOh shoot. Letâs forget this conversation ever happened.â
âLetâs.â The blind vampire was glad her persuasion ability worked. Her smile grew even bigger from the attention she gained.
The nurse is put into a hypnotic trance before she blinks and walks away. Contrary to popular belief, Rosalie did have a gift. A gift of minor mind control, emphasis on the minor part. Emmett called it: âKiss Controlâ, those who were attracted/wanted to kiss her would do anything she said without question.
~~~~~
Rosalie drags Emmett through the hospital.
âHun, I love you but being here isnât good for me.â Emmett says holding his breath.
âLook.â Rosalie points to the baby.
âTheyâre all cute babies, babe. But they have families.â
âExcept one. Look in the far corner.â Rosalie points.
Emmett lets in an accidental breath but he is fine. Somehow this little girlâs scent drowns him in a dull state.
âMcCarthy?â
Rosalie pulls out a paper. âI did some digging into Laurenâs mother. Her momâs name is Grace McCarthy. She the first girl born from Elenor McCarthyâs linage.
Emmett opens the paper and confirms his family tree. He finds the name Grace McCarthy and follows the line up to his only sister, Elenor. His sister was this little girlâs great great grandmother, making him a great great grand uncle.
âAre we adopting her?â Emmett doesnât look away from the paper.
âI would like to.â
~~~~~
Alice and Jasper got their friend Jenkins to create a false document to prove that Emmett was Laurenâs uncle. I mean he was but people would get suspicious if a 75 year old man looked 20.
From there California law may grant legal guardianship. Rosalie and Emmett had to wait a week before they were approved.
They werenât worried about being approved or not since they had Alice. They did worry about having enough of everything.
Edward, annoyingly, kept insisting that adopting a human even if she was a descendent was a bad idea. Rosalie countered by saying her and Emmett will live separately from the Cullenâs for a while.
~~~~~
Half of Emmettâs face is in view. Heâs sitting in the driver seat, the view outside is a hospital parking lot.
The corner time stamp reads
OCT 24 1990
9:53AM
âIs this on? I think this is on. Itâs on, babe. Action!â
The view spins around to show Rosalie in the passenger seat and she laughs.
âHi Lauren. Iâm Rosalie, Iâm so excited to be your mom. To see you grow and accomplish anything you put your mind to.â Rosalie reaches for the camera, takes it and turns it around on Emmett.
âWhat do I say!â Emmett panics.
âAnything you want.â
âHi Lauren⌠Little Ren. â He does a small wave. âIâm going to be your dad. Your mom, sheâs an angel she saved me from dying from a bear and when I saw you for the first time, I just knew if we were ever under attack I would use your mommy as a human shield to protect you.â Emmett smiles a goofy smile.
âEmmett!â
âWhat! Itâs true! You could handle a bear babe.â
~~~~~
The camera follows Rosalie down a hallway.
The corner time stamp reads
OCT 24 1990
10:08AM
âWeâre waiting for child services to approve of us as your parents. We arenât worried though, your aunt Alice already knows youâll be with us.â Emmettâs voice can be heard.
They reach the newborn nursery where nurses help Rosalie and Emmett into pink PPEs and gloves.
Rosalie and Emmett walk towards a cradle. The baby is out of its swaddle. The pink beanie and a binkie sit at the corner and her cute little tummy is showing.
Soft coos come from Rosalie.
âHere you are Ren.â Emmett whispers.
A nurse comes over and tells the new parents about the fever Lauren had last night. âWe dressed her in less layers. But you can still hold her if youâd like.â
The smile never leaves from Rosalieâs face as she picks up Lauren.
âHello.â She whispers and rocks her. âYouâre perfect.â
Lauren snuggles into Rosalieâs arms. The vampireâs eyes glistening with venom tears.
The nurse smiles at the family, knowing baby Lauren will be in perfect hands. The camcorder is taken away from Emmett, he doesnât even notice. The camera is placed on top of one of the machines. Emmett smiles adoringly at his two girls. Tickling Laurenâs small feet.
âDo you want to hold her?â Rosalie turns to Emmett.
Emmettâs face changes into fear. Heâs scared of accidentally crushing her.
âYouâll be okay.â
He too is a natural when holding a baby, to think the last time he held one was his own sister. Laurenâs eyes open at the change of hands. Emmett is transported back to 70 years ago.
âYou have my sisterâs eyes.â Emmett whispers.
~~~~~
The camera moves through the house and up the stairs. The frame bounces as if the person holding it is skipping.
The corner time stamp reads
OCT 27 1990
1:27PM
The door springs open to reveal Rosalie and Emmett relaxing in bed.
âAlice what if we were naked.â Rosalie scolds.
âYou werenât, Iâve already seen what happens.â The voice is giddy. âYou would want this on camera.â
As if on cue Rosalieâs pager rang. She grabbed it and dialed the number on the rotary phone on the nightstand.
âHello.â
âŚ
âYes this is her speaking.â
Rosalieâs face lights up. âWe can be on our way now.â Rosalieâs free hand goes to tap Emmett.
In their haste to grab the car seat, a diaper bag, and their daughter they forgot the camcorder.
The camera turns around to show a pixie haired girl with a smile on her face.
âHi Lauren. Iâm your aunt Alice. Your parents are on the way to pick you up. Itâs going to be an exciting day! I already have cute dresses designed and made for you and of course we canât forget the baby welcoming party! Iâm happy that youâre going to be happy with us!â
Alice walks down the stairs where Jasper is reading a history novel.
âJazz, anything to say to the baby?â
âUh Hi baby. Iâm your uncle Jasper. We havenât met yet and I would like to formally apologize if I may seem distant in the future. I know you already make Rosalie very happy from how her emotions bounces off her. Welcome to the family.â
Alice then walks into the kitchen to Esme.
âLauren! Iâm your grandma. Weâre very excited to have you in the family. I know you are a gift to Rosalie and Emmett and they are blessings to you.â
Carlisle then enters the frame.
âIâm Carlisle, your grandfather. But please donât called me grandpa, Iâd like âpopsâ makes me sound less of a 350 year old man. Weâre happy that youâre allowed to join our family, and weâll protect you no matter the dangerâŚâ
âEven though we are the danger,â a voice comes from offscreen.
The camera turns to Edward.
âEdward, weâve been over this. We all nearly perfected our control.â Carlisle sighs.
âBabies, toddlers, kids they get hurt. And when that hurt becomes bloody, we would possibly make an immortal child.â
âWe know the risks and the consequences. Rosalie deserves to be happy too, and if they need to part from us for a little while we will let them.â Carlisle explains.
Edward then huffs and leaves.
âThatâs your uncle Edward.â Alice whispers.
~~~~~
Emmett and Rosalie enter through the main door, Emmett holds the car seat as baby Lauren is wrapped in a blanket and asleep.
The corner time stamp reads
OCT 27 1990
2:10PM
A chorus of coos, awes and welcome home can be heard from the coven.
âEverybody, this is Lauren Vera McCarthy.â Emmett introduces.
âWeâre going to let her nap before we officially let her meet you guys.â Rosalie says.
Alice places the camera on Laurenâs leg as Emmett shows the sleeping baby around the house. When he gets to the nursery, Rosalie unbuckles the car seat and places her daughter in the crib.
Emmett then describes every finite detail of the room. To the wall painting, the decorations, the baby supplies, he could not stop bragging about how he, Jasper and Carlisle built the crib.
~~~~~
Rosalie carries a now awake baby down the stairs.
The corner time stamp reads
OCT 27 1990
6:14PM
âLauren this is the Cullens. Your new family.â Rosalie introduces. âThis is grandpa and grandma, Carlisle and Esme.â
The camera pans to a disgusted look on Edward.
âThatâs Edward.â Rosalie says quickly.
The camera pans to Alice and Jasper.
âAnd they are your godmother and godfather.â Rosalie whispers.
Alice chips in joy as Jasper glares at Rosalie. Alice skips over to Rosalie and holds Lauren in her arms. She inhaled the baby smell before turning to Jasper.
Jasper stiffens, cuts off his breathing and steps back.
âYou wonât hurt the baby Jasper,â Rosalie starts.
âI wouldnât want to chance it.â Jasper says warily.
âYouâre wonât do anything Jazz. Here. Hold the baby!â Alice gently hands the baby over.
âActually get a good whiff,â Emmett notes. âYouâll be surprised.â
âBabies have a new baby smell. They smell good.â Esme smiles.
Edward immediately stands and is ready to fight Jasper if needed.
Jasper hesitantly takes a sniff. He appears confused, âNew born baby, yes. But also nothing at all. Itâs a faint mask of our scents in there too. Rosalie and Emmett?â He questioned.
âIt must be a defense mechanism?â Carlisle questioned. âHer mom, Grace, didnât know she was even pregnant when she was rushed into labor.â
âIt also took a few days to notice her in the nursery.â Rosalie notes.
âSomething must of happened while Grace was pregnant that her body would protect Lauren like that.â Jasper concludes.
âWe should still be cautious if she ever bleeds.â Edward says looking over Jasperâs shoulder.
âSheâll have to do a heel prick soon to run some tests to check on health conditions that may not be immediately apparent after birth. Anything genetic, metabolic, blood, or hormone-related. We can test then. Bring a vial home while Rosalie and Emmett are out in the city. See how we react to it.â Carlisle explains scientifically. âCome up with plans for when she injures herself or has nose bleeds.â
~~~~~
Rosalie held Lauren during the heel prick. Her little feet is red and bruised after the test, but Rosalieâs ice cold hand soothes her daughter.
Emmett and Rosalie didnât have a reaction to the blood sampling. The bloody iron scent was dull and fastly fading as the moment went on.
They still kept a plan at the house and everyone was fine. Preventions were still kept in place.
An: I should probably make a banner for Johanna or something. Also I think I sent this head cannon to someoneâs ask but I donât remember whom I sent it to. :/
This probably would have been better as a blurb but oh well.
~~~~~
Johanna sat on the couch rolling her eyes and groaning at the sight of Katnissâ wedding gowns being presented to the audience. Her feet were propped up on the coffee table that you made and she had nothing on except a pair of fuzzy socks. âUgh disgusting! What flock of white geese had to die for that dress?â
You chuckle at her words as you were cutting the bell pepper for dinner. âDo you mean swans, honey?â
âAbsolutely not, she does not deserve swans.â
There were a total of 6 dresses to choose from and Cinna announced to the crowd that they could vote for which dress Katniss should wear. Johanna made another snide comment about making the Girl on Fire walk out in a suit of mud and call it a day. âThey would definitely like that.â
âKatniss would not. Iâm not too sure sheâd be as comfortable as you being naked.â
Johanna cupped her own breast with a smirk. âAt least I show myself off instead of being bought for it. What are they going to do? They canât take it from me if I give it out for free.â
You tilted your head in acknowledgement of her words. Itâs something you learned as a victor, watching others do the same. Finnick acted cocky as a defense mechanism. Enobaria sharpened her teeth to defend herself from the Capitol. Hell, you had done it, fiddling with your pocket saw out in the open. It was effective in scaring people away but it also gave you horrible flashbacks to your own game. What does that say about your view of the capital if you decide to willingly traumatize yourself again? Even so, after years of doing it, youâd only get flashes of the dark memory instead of a full blown panic attack. Exposure therapy at its finest.
Anyway, immediately after Cinna finishes his campaign for Katnissâ wedding dress, Snow took the podium on the raised balcony overlooking the city circle. âWhy the fuck is he on our screens? As if voting for a wedding dress isnât torturous enough.â Johanna groaned.
You put your knife down. The living room was a good 50 steps away from the kitchen counters and you placed your hands on the back of the couch watching intently. To you, the twist wouldnât matter, youâd still have to mentor who ever the twist catered too.
âLadies and gentlemen, citizens of Panem. This is the 75th year of the Hunger Games. When the charter of the Games was written, it dictated that every 25 years there would be a Quarter Quell⌠to make fresh for each new generation the memory of those killed in the rebellion against the Capitol. The Quarter Quell was reserved for the Games of special significance.â
Johanna sat up in her seat fiddling with the hilt of her axe. You noticed the slow movement of her thumb over the wooden handle before she took a breath.
âOn the 25th anniversary, each district was made to vote on the tributes who should represent it. In the 50th anniversary, as a reminder that two rebels died for every Capitol citizen, each district was required to send twice the tributes to the arena. And now on the 75th anniversary of the Rebellion, we honor our third quarter quell, as bestowed to us, by the signers of the Treaty of Treason.â
A small wooden box is carried onto the balcony by a boy dressed in white. You watch as President Snow opens the box and retrieves a yellow sealed envelope. âAs a reminder that even the strongest cannot over power the Capitol, on this 3rd Quarter Quell Games, the male and female tributes are to be reaped from the pool of existing victors of each district.â
The room froze, you and Johanna not daring to break the silence. Your eyes widened and you forgot to breathe. Chills traveled down your spine. Johanna reacted first gripping her axe and swinging it at the television projector with a scream, smashing it to pieces.
Your heart plunged to the ground. You were going back. Tears welled in your eyes and a lump found its way to your throat. The walls closed in around you and before it could crush you, you rushed out of the house.
Your foot caught each other on the way down the steps and you caught yourself with your hands and knees. The bushes beckoned you to them and you crawled over before dispensing the bile caught in your throat.
The fall was so fast you didnât notice the glassy rocks that cut your knees. Only after you crawled to the log storage did you notice them. Smears of blood oozed out of your wounds and sticky red liquid coated your fingers.
Your hand began to shake.
The First Kill was never something you could get over. Her name was Olive and there was a sponsor sent to you on the 5th day, she was nearby and tried to take the gift from you. She tackled you to the ground and after a few moments of tussling in the grass, you found your saw and lodged it deep into her neck. Her blood trickled down coating your fingers as you pulled on your weapon to slice her neck. She died choking on her own blood. Your hands stained red and no matter how much you tried to scrub it off, it always remained on your hands.
Even now, as you frantically scrubbed your hands in the shed sink, it wouldnât go away. The harder you rubbed the redder your hands got. That was how friction worked but in your state of delusion, it all looked the same.
The cascade of water stopped. As you moved your hands to the faucet, gentle hands cradled yours. A small whimper escaped your lips. You were going back. You were in the pool of existing victors. But so was Johanna. Your head snapped up spotting the younger girl focused on your reddened hands.
âJohanna.â
She let out an unamused chuckle. âI fucking trashed the house.â
âI assumed so.â You whispered. âI rubbed off the skin on my hands.â
Johanna hummed as she traced her thumb over the injury. âI know.â
You raised your arms to her to hold her face. âI need you to promise me something. Do not volunteer for me.â
She met your eyes with her own fiery ones while tilting her head. âOne of us has to go in. Like hell, Iâm going to let it be you.â
âI can handle myself, thatâs why Iâm telling you not to volunteer.â
âIf you donât volunteer then I wonât volunteer.â Johanna bargained. You went quiet pressing your lips into a thin line. Just like you knew her well enough to know sheâd volunteer, she knew you well enough to know you would to. It was hypocritical so you agreed.
Johanna kept her unwavering eyes towards you. You matched her gaze until you found a soft glint in her eyes. Your shoulders relaxed as you looked a way. A deep sigh escaped your lips. âFine, whoever gets picked for the reaping gets picked.â
âGreat but weâre training for this. I am not going to have a rusty tribute as my mentee.â
~
Your heartbeat echoed in your ears and thumped against your rib cage. Your legs were wide enough for Johanna to fit between them. She stood in front of you playing with your hair as you buried your ear into her chest. Hers was almost as fast as yours but there was comfort in wrapping your arms around her.
You didnât want to let go of Johanna. The thought of having to watch from the sidelines where you physically couldnât protect her. The pressure in your chest felt like a bubbling volcano, stress building up before an eruption.
Usually the silence with Johanna was comfortable being able to be in the moment, in her arms. This time, the silent air was heavy. The small ticking of the clock reminded you of the looming possibility of going back to the arena.
You loved her. You made a promise not to volunteer but you had to. You had to protect her. Blight and Old Spruce came to pick you up for the reaping. When they knocked, Johanna gave you one last squeeze to your hand to comfort you. She made it a habit to hold your hands when you slipped into a memory lapse to keep you from rubbing the skin off your hands. In return you stocked and supplied the wooden logs for Johanna to split when her anger rose.
You snuck her a peck on her lips before the four of you trudged to the town square where the entirety of District 7 awaited the victors. The hot July sun did nothing to ease your worries as it heated your arms. You rocked onto your toes as the escort stepped onto the stage. It was ironic being an eligible tribute again. Seven years ago you dreaded for the slip to say your name and now seeing all the faces of District 7 on this raised platform, you prayed it was your name being called.
âLadies First.â You stood staring out to your home. After these next moments, your life would never be the same. Either you get reaped and survive the loss of your closest friends turned enemy, Johanna is reaped and survives, you are reaped but die or Johanna is reaped but dies. The loss of it all would turn anyone insane.
Technically, you didnât promise, you only agreed because it would get Johanna to not volunteer. So you could and you would. To your right, you could see Johanna eyeing you and you returned a glare.
âThe female tribute from District 7 is...â He paused for dramatic effect and your heartbeat rose in your throat. Let it be me. Let it be me Let it be me. âJohanna Mason.â Your heart plummeted before turning your head to the escort. You werenât going to accept this.
Before you could even open your mouth to object, you felt a sharp pain on your nose and a small pop in your neck from the force. Your head hit the ground and everything went black.
When you came to, you were on the train staring straight at Blight across from you on the table. âWhat the fuck happened?â
âOh sheâs back.â Spruce called. âYou were out of it for about 30 minutes.â
âWhat do you remember?â Blight asked.
âJohanna was reaped and then it felt like my nose exploded.â You say wincing at the pain on the bridge of your nose. You groaned holding your head.
âDoc says you got a broken nose and a concussion.â
âWhereâs Johanna?â
âThe peacekeepers restrained her in her room.â The escort called. âShe knocked you out in one go. She mustâve been so pissed that she was picked.â You shared a look with your fellow victors. The escort hadnât been here to watch your relationship with Johanna. Both of you were great about hiding your relationship during the annual hunger games.
âSo which of you got reaped?â
Blight took a deep breath. He took a swig of his alcohol laughing at the ridiculousness of it. âCanât believe theyâre making me go back after 20 something years.â
âSo you and I are mentors.â Spruce solemnly said patting you on the shoulder. âShould I take Johanna?â He asked keeping up with appearances. Ironically it was like the 71st Hunger Games again. Mentoring was set by priority. Old Spruce had said yes to mentoring while the others said no meaning you had no choice but to mentor Johanna. This time you could choose her.
âNo. No Iâll talk to her.â
âTake things slowly okay, you took a big fall.â
âYes dad.â You joked. Dad was nice, âOld Spruceâ was pushing 65. He had been your mentor during your games and continued to take care of you afterwards.
The walk to Johannaâs room was short luckily. A peacekeepers stood outside the door and you smiled at him. âHi Iâm here to talk to my mentee.â He looked at you and stepped aside. As soon as the door slid closed, you looked at Johanna. âYou fucking bitch.â
She turned her attention to you from the fuzzes of green zooming past the window. A soft smile plastered on her face. âYou promised you werenât going to volunteer.â
âTechnically I didnât. I agreed so you wouldnât volunteer. We didnât shake on it or pinky promise or sign a contract soâŚ.â
âYou were going to volunteer.â
âYes.â
âGreat Iâm glad I know you well enough.â
âDecking me in the face was part of the plan?â
âAbsolutely.â You stared at her unamused. âDonât look at me like that. We both know we were going to break that promise to protect the other. Maybe you planned that all along or it was a last minute thought but I saw the look on your face. I anticipated it and knocked you out before you could.â Johanna told shrugging her shoulders as she walked towards you.
âYou broke my nose.â
âItâs better than you dead.â Johanna countered. âI said I wasnât going to let you go back in. I made that promise to myself and I kept it.â
âWhat do I do if I lose you? Do you think youâre the only one who loves in this relationship.â
Johanna held onto your waist. âFirst, avenge me. Second, none of us want the other to go in but someone is going to be forced to. Iâm sorry, Iâd rather it be me than you. You would be safer.â
âSafe is a relative term and when did you become such a sap?â
âOh you know, since I started dating the best girl Iâve ever met.â
âShut up.â
âWhy donât you make me.â
You closed the gap and let your lips meld with the younger girl. Slowly, the two of you walked towards her bed. She sat on her bed and you climbed on top of her with little room to breathe. Johnna wrapped her arms around the back of your neck to bring you in closer deepen the kiss. She flipped you over before nuzzling her face into your neck.
You held her in your arms playing with her hair. Lulling yourself to sleep. âDonât die okay.â You whispered.
âI wonât.â
âI do hope you break your nose though.â
âUgh get over it.â
âNo! Although it was a smart countermove.â
âThank you. I thought long and hard about it for all of 5 seconds after you first told me not to volunteer.â
âWell thatâs the last time I trust you.â You joked.
âYou love me.â
âI do. I know you do too.â
âYeah, I do.â Johanna sighed. The both of you laid motionless embracing the other, enjoying the moment.

In another world Pt. 11

Rhaenyra x reader
"They are on the boat." The queen spoke, pointing her finger towards the back of the ship. Everyone in the room squinted, and sure enough a figure rose up from the ground.
It was too far away to see anything but the overall figure of the person.
Rhaenyra held back from flying up with Syrax to watch the battle, she knew that the white dragon had disappeared, and it was a large threat to Syrax. She didn't need to be next to it to know that it was much bigger than her dragon. Her view was closer compared to her family's, she could just barely make out the movements that were happening. Though her eyes were not able to focus on the features of the person.
"I'd give up now Y/n." The man spoke, mentally cursing himself for allowing his voice to waver at the end. "I have a little over twenty men, this won't last long for you." He continued and his men looked at him with worry, knowing that he was underestimating your power. Everyone knew you not because you were a Stark, they knew you because you were one of the most skilled fighters in Westeros.
One of the men scootched over to him, beginning to plead for him to surrender and give the girl what she wants.
"My Lord, if I may-" The man couldn't finish his sentence as a dagger cut through the air and drilled into his forehead. His body dropped to the ground with a thud, and everyone watched with fear. Otto looked down with dread, the man's body laying right next to his feet with empty eyes. There was no more room for bargaining, what you wanted is something they would never willingly give.
Ottos head.
In that moment, the men on the ship knew that had to fight for their own lives, not their lord's. They all roared with battle cries, running towards you with swords in their hand. The sound of their foots banging off the wooden floor brought you out of your thoughts. You walked over to the edge of the stairs, shoving down one of the men with your foot and watching as they all stumbled back to the deck. You made your way down the steps, your axe swinging with your hand. Men tumbled down, a path clearing for you as you made your way to the man while stepping over the fallen bodies. Otto looked horrified as your eyes didn't leave his. If they did, they looked down for a mere second before they met his once again.
You grunted as the blade whistled through the air, striking with precision and taking out your enemies. Suddenly your axe got stuck in one of the men and you looked down, lifting up your boot and dislodging the weapon from his shoulder while kicking him. One of the men took that to their advantage, shooting an arrow in your shoulder. They watched as your body tumbled back, a small wince leaving your mouth.
You looked over to your upper arm with a blank stare and slowly turned your head to the soldier. Your hand gripped the arrow, tossing the object over the ship and into the ocean. His hand began to shake as he reached over for another arrow, his nerves causing him to drop the arrow on the ground. He let out a scream as you ran over to him and lifted your axe over your head, bringing it down and taking him out with one hit.
Otto hid in the corner, his face a mask of utter shock. He had completely underestimated your strength and your ability to stay true to your word. He watched as you fought through his men, not bothering to react to the wounds you were receiving. Your movements were swift, one could say the way you moved was like watching water flow down the side of the mountain.
With each hit you just saw your handmaidens face, your fathers tired eyes, and your mothers fear. You were blinded by the horrors you had faced that you didn't even realize that you had made it through all the men. Snapping out of your state, you pulled your axe out of the last knight and looked over to the man who was cradling himself in the corner. You wiped the back of your hand over your eyes and cleared your face of any blood.
Otto raised his head, and his eyes darted around for a possible escape, noticing that the right side of the ship was free of your stance. He tried to run but you caught him by the back of his shirt, pulling him and slamming him to one of the masts. He wheezed and brought a hand to the back of his head, looking up at you with widened eyes.
You stood over him, watching him cup his hands and begin to beg for forgiveness. For a moment you considered mercy, you could simply take him back to the keep and lock him away while he rots in a cell.
Be a dragon. Be a dragon. Be a dragon. Be a dragon. Be a dragon.
The words of the older woman continued to repeat in your ears. She was your chosen grandmother, a sweet soul. She had protected you from the worsts, spent her days taking care of you and your family. This memory was seared into your mind for the rest of your life, the sound her gasping for air. She wasn't shown any pity from the Hightower's, so why should you. It was far too late for mercy.
"I'll run away and never re-"
The axe swung around in one swift strike, ending Otto's reign of treachery. His head rolled in front of your feet, and you looked down, the weight on your shoulders slowly lifting but you felt the repercussions of your actions hit you like a brick. You had felt the small sense of closure but if you were to look at yourself you wouldn't recognize the reflection staring back at you. You had won but at what cost?
You blinked and looked up, letting out a breath and looking up towards the sky. You prayed to the Gods that Arryelyn was somewhere pleasant, that her mind and soul were taken care of. The slight breeze brushing past you told you all you needed to hear.
Walking over to your first victim, you kneeled down to pull out your dagger, wiping it off on his clothes. Your head whipped to the side when you heard the creek of floorboards. Standing up from your position, you threw open the door to the one of the main cabins and clenched your jaw as you saw two young boys in the corner.
The fear on their faces was enough to make you sick, you almost looked at them apologetically. They trembled when they stood up, your hand tightening your grip around your weapon just in case. They quickly put up their hands, dropping their weapons and coming in front of you to kneel.
"We wanted nothing to do with this Lady Stark." They cried, their eyes looking into yours in hopes they see a chance of their lives being spared. You softly nodded and looked around the room.
"Go home."
They looked at you with surprise, their shoulders deflating, and they quickly nodded. Both the young boys watched as you turned around, one foot out the door before you stopped in your tracks. You looked over your shoulder, your eyes looking between theirs.
"Tell them winter came for Otto Hightower."
You shut the door behind you and scanned the ship, your mind in complete denial that you had caused all this destruction. Bringing your hands up to your mouth, you whistled for your dragon. Malyx dropped down from the clouds and flew to the side of the ship, putting out his wing far enough so you could jump on. With one last look you sighed, turning your attention back towards his wing and hopping onto your dragons back.
"Go to the shore Malyx."
"He's gone." The king muttered, looking around the room. The people in the council room watched the scene as they saw men being flung of the boat, the quick movements of people as they rushed to fight. They knew Otto Hightower was gone when the saw the white dragon return from out of the clouds and allow its rider to hop back on.
"Where is the dragon going?" Tyland Lannister questioned, his eyes following the creature that was quickly making its way closer to the Redkeep. Everyone in the room began to panic, the sound of the noises leaving its mouth grew louder.
"Rhaenyra." The king whispered, his wife gasping next to him. He quickly pushed himself from the railing and ran out the door, Aemma fast on his heels. "Get everyone outside and find my daughter!"
Down at the beach, Rhaenyra looked out towards the horizon. Her eyes widened when she realized that the dragon was indeed getting closer, and it wasn't just her imagination.
It was way bigger than she initially thought. Its scales shimmered in the reflection of the light and its color made it look godlike. The wings that were propelling it through the air were vast and almost twice the size of Syrax's.
Her dragon began to stir under her, and she looked down, gripping the reins. "Lykiri." She muttered, dragging her hand along Syrax's neck.
Something in her gut told her to stay on the beach, to sit and not run away with Syrax. She was in complete awe at the new dragon. Though she couldn't help but wonder if this was where she met her end. It seems that the rider was not in favor of Otto Hightower so maybe it was a new powerful ally. Her mind raced with hundreds of questions, wondering who claimed this dragon and what caused them to come here.
Rhaenyra flinched and felt a chill down her spine as the dragon flew over her head, descending and landing itself in the sand behind her. Syrax turned around her body and Rhaenyra yelped, quickly holding onto the saddle. The yellow dragon let out a low grumbling sound and sniffed the air.
Rhaenyra still couldn't see the rider, the white creature was far too big, and its head covered the person.
"The princess commands you to get down!" She shouted, her voice carrying over the sounds of waves and the low noises leaving the dragons. They all stood for a moment before the larger dragon lowered its body and flattened its wing on the ground.
Rhaenyra watched as the person slowly dismounted, grunts leaving their mouth. Just as their feet hit the ground, Syrax cried out, her head instantly lifting up and her wings fluttering.
Suddenly the princess felt her breath hitch, her arms dropping from the reins.
There you stood, knees shaking and your body completely exhausted. You looked up to the girl and painfully gave her a small smile.
Without a second thought, the girl quickly unbuckled herself and slid off her dragon, not caring how far the drop was. She broke out into a run, sand kicking up while her feet pounded against the beach. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she ran, her breaths coming out in quick gasps. The world around her blurred as all she could see was you standing there and waiting.
The three long years of separation, nights where she longed for this very moment.
Her arms reached out and she flew into your arms, the force nearly knocking you both to the ground. She buried her face in your neck, and you wrapped your arms around her, your eyes closing as you inhaled deeply. She smelt like home.
You both stood there, locked into an embraced while you both refused to let each other go, afraid that you would disappear.
In the background the two dragons moved closer, both flaring their nostrils as they inspected each other. They both mirrored each other's gestures, extending their necks while they took in each other's scents.
Your dragon let out a small grumble and bent his head, the yellow dragon following shortly after and lowering hers.
Rhaenyra pulled back slightly, looking into your eyes. She couldn't help but notice the look of loss in them and she felt her lip tremble. She brought her hands up and cupped your face, wiping the tears that had fallen and not caring about the messy state you were in.
"My heart." She spoke, her voice trembling with emotion. You looked down at her, your heart skipping a beat after hearing her for the first time in years. Your lip quivered and you tried to swallow the lump in your throat. "What happened?"
Your body just completely broke down before you could respond, your shoulders trembled and you closed your eyes, dropping your head on Rhaenyra's shoulder. She felt her own heart break at the sight and cupped the back your head with one hand while the other rested on your back.
Your sobs were deep and uncontrollable while you clung onto Rhaenyra like she was your lifeline, the only thing stopping you from falling onto the ground.
"I'm here. You're safe." She whispered into your ear, her voice cracking while her own tears dropped down her cheeks. Rhaenyra held onto you as tight as she could, your anguish causing her chest to tighten. She moved her head to the side and pressed a series of light kisses to your head, and you continued to cry.
Rhaenyra's dress was stained with tears, but she could care less, you were in her arms again. Your vulnerability was laid bare in front of her, the weight of the recent events was clearly visible. You were exhausted, mentally and physically. Though, in all of this turmoil you once again found a safe haven, your princess.
Both of you pulled away once again and you rested your forehead on hers. "I love you, I have always loved you Rhaenyra." You whispered, looking into her bright eyes. She smiled, a radiant expression lighting up her face. She brought her hands to your collar and quickly pulled you in by your shirt, connecting your lips together. Your mouths were sealed together in a tender kiss, both of you noticing that your hearts finally feel whole again.
You pulled away and rested your head on hers once again, shaky breaths leaving your mouth. "I love you." She finally replied, you went to pull her into another kiss, but you heard footsteps rush down the stairs behind you.
"Princess Rhaenyra!" A guard called out, his sword in his hands. Malyx turned around from Syrax and snarled, letting out a growl of warning. You held your hand out to him, making eye contact with the dragon. He hesitated but shook his wings and turned back around, going back to minding his own business.
"I'm alright! You can put away your swords!" She yelled back, looking at you while she was still in your arms.
More footsteps reached their ears as more knights followed along with the king and queen. They ran down the steps and onto the beach, gasps leaving their mouths as they noticed who their daughter was with. Their eyes trailed over to the large white dragon just mere feet away and they quickly looked back at you.
"Y/n?" The king breathed, making his way over to you. Your arms slid out from Rhaenyra's and you walked up to the man, your head slightly bowed.
"You're grace, I'm sorry for what just happe-oof." Your sentence was cut short as the man brought you into a swift hug, pulling you into his chest. You let out a shaky sigh and carefully wrapped your arms around him. He pulled away and kept his hands on your shoulder, his wife slowly coming out from behind him.
He looked at her and dropped his hands, giving you a warm smile, one filled with sympathy. The women walked up to you and pulled you into her arms, placing a kiss on the side of your head.
"We're glad you're safe Y/n." She spoke, gently letting you go with tears briming in her eyes. You gave her a grateful smile, looking down as you felt a light hand grip yours. You looked over to Rhaenyra before turning your attention back to the king and queen. Before you could tell them the state of Winterfell you felt the stinging pain in your shoulder.
Your body decided to make all of the injuries you got, be brought to your attention, multiple areas beginning to burn. You hissed and gripped your side, your other hand coming up to the arrow wound on your arm. Touching it with your fingers, your hand shook when you pulled it away. Blood coating the tips of your fingers. Rhaenyra quickly grabbed onto you when your leg buckled from underneath you.
"Help her inside." The king commanded to the guards, making them nod and come up to you. They hoisted your arms over their shoulders and the two knights helped you up the stairs.
You were so tired, taking deep breaths to try to push away the pain in your limbs. Your eyes shut as you felt the need to close them after hours of being awake. You had stayed up for almost a full day, far too rageful to fall asleep on your dragon.
Rhaenyra watched with worry as your head fell limp, her mother's hand coming up to her shoulder in support. She looked towards the woman with a grateful smile, one that didn't quite reach her eyes.
The guards had led you to a private chamber within the Redkeep to treat your wounds. Maester Orwyle walking in with a sigh, grabbing his materials. Today was the day of injuries.
Hours later, you began to stir in your sleep. Suddenly you woke up with a gasp, your eyes flying open and the girl next to you reached out to grab your arm. You sat up and looked around, unaware of where you were and what had happened.
"You're okay, you're okay I'm here." Rhaenyra spoke softly, cupping your face and rubbing her thumb over your cheek. You sighed in relief, slowly laying yourself back down with a wince. The princess grabbed the cup next to her and brought it up to your lips, urging you to drink it. You gave her a small smile and gulped the liquid down. You scanned the room with your eyes and realized that you were in the girl's chambers, currently laying down on her bed.
"I'm sorry if I scared you." You mumbled, turning your head over and grabbing her hand. She shook her head with a frown on her face. "Don't apologize, I'm just glad you're okay." She leaned down and placed a kiss on your forehead.
You had noticed you were freshly clean, a nice pair of sleep pants clad on your legs and the wrapping on your chest was enough for no shirt to cover you. So many bruises aligned your body, old and new wounds scattered around your limbs. The unhealed cut on your ribs once again opened up along with the fresh one on your shoulder.
"I wish I never left you in the first place." She sighed at your words and rubbed her thumb along the back of your hand. "If I had just stayed with you none of this would have ever happened."
"Stop it. Do not blame yourself for this." The princess responded, a pang of sorrow hitting her heart from your words. "You did it for your family, you are truly the bravest person I know." You smiled at her, amidst the sorrow and guilt, the power of your love for Rhaenyra was overbearing.
The weight of your actions gnawed at you, relentless words whispering in the back of your mind. Rhaenyra watched as you dazed off, your brows furrowing in frustration. Suddenly your eyes met hers and she tilted her head.
"Where's Alicent?" You questioned, your jaw clenching as you began to stand up from the bed. "You need to lay back down my love." She protested but you shook your head, your feet touching the floor as you clung to the bedside table for stability.
"No, I must see her. I need to apologize." You grumbled, grabbing the shirt on the end of the bed and holding it up to Rhaenyra. She stared at you with firm look, wishing you would stop being stubborn and lay back down. "You're still healing you need to rest." She tried once again but gave up after a few seconds, the shirt in your hands still being held up. The girl sighed and snatched the piece of clothing from you, unfolding it and holding it up to your back. You stretched your arms out as much as you could, your shoulder limiting your mobility.
The princess carefully brought your arms through each sleeve, tossing the shirt over you and moving to your front. You began to try to tie the front, growling in frustration as your hands shook. Rhaenyra quickly took the strings out of your hold and tied it for you, your eyes avoiding hers at your bruised ego. She couldn't help but give you a tiny grin, her eyes scanning over your face.
Now that she could finally get a good look at you, she noticed the scar cutting through your eyebrow. Your face has changed, all your youthful features disappeared and were rather sharp and more defined. Gods, you were truly a blessing to the eyes.
You watched as her cheeks grew red and you raised a brow, your hands coming to her hips. She finished her work on your shirt and rolled her eyes at your protests when she pulled away from you.
"You were the one that demanded to get out of bed." She teased, grabbing your arm and leading you out of her room. You grumbled and followed after her, using her arm as a guide. The limp in your step bothered you as you felt completely defenseless.
The two of you walked in comfortable silence, though it was rather slow and quite painful for you. Your eyes scanned around the castle as you made your way towards the Hightower girl's room. It was nearly the same, a few new paintings here and there.
The guard in front of Alicents door gave you both a quick bow, lifting his hand up and pushing open the door. Rhaenyra helped you walk in, your eyes lowering as you saw Alicent resting her bed.
The brown-haired girl widened her eyes at the sight of you, a small gasp leaving her mouth. You turned over to Rhaenyra and gave her a nod, the girl standing on her toes to press a quick peck to your cheek before exiting the room and giving you both privacy.
You slowly limped over to the chair beside her bed and sat down with a huff, your body slowly sinking into the chair. Alicent had now sat up from the bed, scootching over to the edge closest to you.
You looked up to her and felt a surge of guilt and regret, your eyes moving towards the bandage sitting on her forehead. "I'm so sorry Alicent." You started, your voice trembling. "I wish it didn't have to come down to this." She didn't respond at first and you couldn't help but believe she was mad at you.
Within seconds she leaped from the bed and wrapped her arms around you. You heard her release a shaky breath next to your ear and felt tears seeping through your shirt. "This isn't your fault Y/n." She let go and sat back down on her bed, her hands coming to sit in her lap. You felt a few tears slip down your cheeks and you quickly wiped them off, shaking your head at her words.
"I-I didn't think that it would turn out like this, I'm sorry for your father's death." Your voice slightly breaking as you responded to her, head tilting down in shame. She reached out for your hand, her touch light and gentle and filled with reassurance. "Otto had made his choices, and they got him killed. He knew the risks and he paid the price." Alicent replied softly, giving you a sad smile. "To be truthful, my father had died the day he started plotting against you. He got killed by his desire for power, it consumed him." She spoke, looking down at her feet.
"You got hurt because of me, and that I feel responsible for." You softly replied, your eyes filled with sadness. Alicent sighed and ran her hands over the blanket on her lap. "I got hurt because of my own actions. I chose to confront my father, I knew the risks and still continued anyways." You looked up at her, her eyes meeting yours with sincerity.
"And I would do it all over again. You are one of my greatest friend's Y/n, my loyalty will always lie with you." Your lip trembled and you stood up, ignoring the pain shooting to your knee. You embraced the girl, Alicents arms immediately encircling you. The hug was silent, both of you exchanging your support for one another.
Once you pulled away you looked into your eyes, hers beginning to squint as she noticed a playful smirk growing on your lips. "So....you and my brother." You let a small giggle slip from your lips at her red face and she pushed you away with a playful scowl. You chuckled and sat down in the seat.
Both of you began to talk about everything, besides the last couple of days. You explained to her your time up in the far north, the dragon you had claimed, and even your love for Rhaenyra. She was thrilled to hear you had the same amount of concern for the girl while you were away. She had to hear her friend nearly lose her mind while she waited for your return. You even got her to answer why she found interest in your brother, surprised to learn that she has had her eyes on him for a long time.
"Wait, so how were you able to claim your dragon?" You froze at her words and leaned back, your hands folding in your lap. She looked at you with confusion, eyes scanning over your face. "I'm a bastard Alicent." You sighed and her eyes widened, her hand coming up to her mouth. She looked at you in shock, a part of her waiting for you to tell her you were joking around. When she saw the look in your eyes, she placed her hand on your knee and gave you a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry Y/n." You nodded and bit your cheek, feeling rather embarrassed.
"So... does that make you and Rhaenyra related?" You choked, a cough shooting out of your mouth. Your mouth dropped open as you were at a loss for words. "W-Well." You started, your head moving around in disbelief. You had not thought of this. The girl in front of you bursted out into a fit of laughter, her hand coming up to stifle her chuckles. You felt your face heat up and you scowled, turning away from her. "It's not funny Alicent." You hissed, shaking your head in annoyance, though weren't actually upset. You were rather happy that she didn't care of your parentage. "At most we are just distant cousins." You mumbled, crossing your arms in front of you.
"Well, it's not anything new for the Targaryen's. They have rather queer customs." She pointed and you blinked at her, standing up from your seat and limping towards the door. "Goodbye Alicent." You grumbled, making her laugh even more. You flipped her off from behind your back and made your way back to Rhaenyra's room with a red face.
You pushed open the door, giving the guard a small smile. Rhaenyra sat with her mother on the couch, both of their heads turning up to look at you.
"Y/n." Her mother greeted, looking at you with a warm grin. You gave her a small bow and carefully came over to them. "Your grace." You greeted, gently sitting down next to Rhaenyra.
The queen watched you both interact with a knowing look and cleared her throat. "We would love to have a dinner tonight in celebration of your bravery Y/n, though if you wish to rest tonight, we will not hold it against you." You nodded and gave her a genuine smile. "I would be happy to join, your grace."
The three of you sat there, lightly catching up about the last three years. Aemma made sure to steer away from the fresh subject and praise your bravery for the battle with the Freefolk. After she took off and excused herself, returning to her quarters to get dressed for dinner.
That left you and Rhaenyra in her room. She looked at you with a loving look and you swallowed, Alicents teasing coming back and echoing throughout your head. "Rhaenyra, I have to tell you something." You started, fidgeting with her hands in your lap. She nodded, urging you to continue. She couldn't help but feel nervous, she had no idea what you were about to tell her.
"After I had claimed my dragon, my mother had come to me with news that had been.... kept from me." She listened to your words, eyes still trained on yours. Your palms started to grow sweaty, you were concerned that she would look at you differently.
"My father had slept with another woman, a Targaryen." You blurted out, watching as her eyes widened and she looked at you with complete shock. You both sat there staring at each other, the princess being utterly taken back. "A-And how does that make you feel?" She questioned with caution, scanning your face to try to see the thoughts in your head.
"Well...at first I was mad, I guess. My mother had told me, though I wasn't mad at her, more disappointed." Rhaenyra hummed, giving you the space to continue. "Though my father, he didn't say much." She saw the frustration in your features and grabbed your hand.
"I just don't want you to see me differently." She could barely hear the sentence, your voice coming out so soft and small. Her hand came up to your face and connected both of your foreheads, brushing her nose against yours. "I could never look at you differently my heart. I could care less what kind of blood you have in you." You smiled at her words and connected your lips, sighing as hers molded against yours. She pulled away, ignoring your groan as you opened your eyes. "Plus, it's nothing new, I mean my father and Corlys Velaryon had once talked about betrothing me to my cousin." You blinked at her words, your body growing stiff as you stared at your lover who told you she almost got married.
"I'm sorry what."

In another world Pt. 10

Rhaenyra x reader
Warning: violence!
The North was not for the weak minded. Tales of winter in the North were thought to be over exaggerated, simply just a jest.
Here the small group of men wearing green colors sat around a fire, holding themselves back from jumping in to seek warmth. The journey had been treacherous from the start, their bodies and clothes not adapted to any of the weather north from their home.
It was a miracle that they were all still alive, their lord had not warned them of the hardships they would face.
After being sent up to the North a few moons ago by Otto Hightower, the men set up camp near Winterfell. He instructed them to spy on House Stark as he knew you would end up returning soon with winter ending. Before they could even tell him of your arrival, they received a letter from a crow learning that Otto had already found out himself.
It was perfect timing for Lord Otto Hightower, his men's loyalty had been wavering the past few weeks. The soldiers began to question their wisdom of their lord's plan, the weather making their faith falter as they began to wish they had just stayed home. They were days away from packing up and heading home.
Once they had received the letter, they would do what they could to carry out their mission and get home as quickly as possible. They no longer had the energy to tread carefully.
It was the hour of the wolf in Winterfell, the starks all being abed. No one was aware of the horrors about to take place within the walls of the great castle.
The guards on watch duty were swiftly getting taken out by silent arrows skimming through the air, allowing for the traitors to silently enter your home.
You were in a deep sleep. Your mind had been so clouded throughout the whole day yesterday, that your body had instantly shut down once you hit your bed. Beside you was Nora, who currently had just woken up to the sound of noise from outside.
The dire wolf had gently jumped down from your bed, trotting her way over to the window in your room and scanning the area outside. She saw men running across the hallways and she instantly could sense the danger unfolding. Quickly backing up, the wolf made her way over to you and shoved her snout into your chest.
The growls of your wolf were enough to bring you out of your slumber, your eyes slowly opening. "Nora?" You groggily questioned, looking over to the rather frazzled wolf. You looked around your room and wondered what has gotten her so worked up, not seeing any danger.
The crash outside was enough to fully bring you to your senses, your head turning to the window in concern. You quickly rose from your bed and looked out the window, your eyes immediately noticing the men on watch with arrows stuck in their chest.
You were under attack.
You quickly tossed on your clothes, not bothering to throw on your furs. Grabbing the freshly sharpened axe and dagger, you descended down the stairs, making your way outside.
You looked around, your chest heaving out of anxiety. Twisting around in a circle as you looked for any sign of the people that had broken in.
Your eyes widened as you heard footsteps behind you. With a gasp you turned around to meet a man holding a knife up to your handmaiden's throat. Your heart dropped and you tightened your grip on your weapon, looking into the man's eyes.
You quickly noticed the Hightower patch on his clothes, and you clenched your jaw.
"Let her go." You warned, your voice filled with growing anger and warning. He let out a disgusting chuckle and held the knife in his hand closer to Arryelyn's throat, the older woman trembling in fear.
"Drop your weapon and come with us and none of this needs to happen." He yelled as the woman twisted in his arms.
"I'll kill you." You muttered, taking a step closer to the man. He blinked and stepped back, scowling at your actions.
"You have one last chance Y/n Stark." You looked to Arryelyn who had a sorrowful look in her eyes. She couldn't help but painfully smile at you softly, her lip already stained with blood. You assumed they had used force to bring her out to you.
You knew what you had to do, your life was not worth the death of your family's. You had no idea if there were more men or where they were in the castle right now. With a shaky sigh, you looked into Arryelyn's eyes as you began to place down your axe.
The courtyard of Winterfell was quiet, no sound could be heard but your breath and your heartbeat in your chest. The sacrifice you would make would be for your people, you swore your loyalty to them.
Just as you were about to place your weapon down in the snow, you heard the footsteps. The quick crunches in the snow behind you was enough to tell you that you needed to react quickly. You looked up to see the old woman calling out your name and in one motion you picked up your axe and swung.
The man behind you quickly dropped onto the snow, his hands coming up to his neck as you quickly sliced through him. You let out a breath and turned around, hoping to throw the dagger that had made its way in your hand towards the man holding Arryelyn.
Time slowed down as your body shifted, and you looked back towards the pair. Your arm dropped to your side as you watched the older womans eyes lose the light in them. The red liquid slid down her throat in streams and you slowly blinked, your body freezing at the sight in front of you.
You held back the bile in your throat and tried to hold up your legs from dropping to the ground. The sounds of her choking were enough to quickly snap you out of your state of shock.
It was as if you were no longer yourself. Your mind had disconnected from your body and your feet began to move without your command. Your face dropping and the tears freely flowing down your face. Your hand retwisted around the axe and your feet sped up.
The green soldier felt his heart drop, the look of pure rage on your face was enough for him to drop the woman on the ground and quickly prepare himself. You had not blinked since he had sliced her throat, and your gaze was set on him.
Before he could even swing his sword, his head was already rolling onto the snow next to him. You brought it back to your side and took deep breaths, looking over to the woman next to you. You quickly kneeled down, pulling her head up and holding it in your hands. Your lip quivered as you were brought back into your thoughts.
"A-arryelyn." You whimpered, wiping off the blood on her cheeks. She looked at you with wide eyes, barely holding on and you knew she was going to be gone soon. She shakily brought a hand up to your face and cupped your cheek. Your eyes closed at the contact, and you leaned into what was left of her touch. You heard her try to murmur a sentence and you furrowed your brows. Moving your head closer, you felt the wind of her voice touch your ears.
"B-be a dragon." She croaked out and you pulled back, your eyes clouded with tears. You looked at her in shock and watched as her eyes slowly shut.
She knew.
You clenched your jaw and cried out, pulling the woman to your chest and holding her close for the last time. Sobs left your mouth as you recalled all of the moments you had with her in your head. She was with you since you were a baby, you had spent your whole life with her by your side.
Suddenly the shock was back, and you felt your sadness be replaced with anger. Adrenaline flowing through your veins as your mind shut down once again.
You carefully placed her on the ground and trembled as you stood up. The axe now in your hand once again as you turned around and made your way to the door of the castle.
You were going to kill every last one of them.
Kicking open the door, you raised your axe at the multiple men running down the hallway. You lifted up your arm and swung, the blade cutting through one of them instantly. Since it was double sided you swung it back around and took out another one.
Blood coated your face, and you continued towards the last man down the hall. The weapon in your hand dragging against the stone floor, small sparks flying into the air from the friction of the metal. Ragged breaths escaped your lips as you looked at the trembling man. He grabbed his sword but faltered as you came closer.
Just as he was about to surrender and drop his sword on the ground you had already raised your arm. The sword cut through the air and his body dropped to the ground.
The sound of your axe scraping the ground was enough to bring fear into the bodies of the remaining men. They all shuddered as you turned the corner, your face remaining blank, but the state of your appearance made them realize that they weren't leaving alive.
The corpses of the Hightower men laid in the hallways of the castle as you continued to make your way until you knew every last one was gone.
Cregan had watched you walk by, eyes furrowing at your lack of reaction. You had quickly looked over at him before turning your head back and continuing. Following behind you, he couldn't help but turn around and look back at the hallway. He swallowed at the amount of fallen men and turned back to look at you, your figure already gone.
Outside the walls, a small group of men kept watch. They slowly made their way around and looked for any lingering guards. A small shake in the earth made them draw their swords, their bodies backing up to the walls of Winterfell. They all let out shaky breaths, looking at each other with confusion. It was too dark to tell what was out in the woods, fear creeping into their heads.
Just as they thought they were safe a low grumbling came from the large snowbank besides them. They all turned their heads in horror as the alleged mountain of snow raised up from the ground and a large blue eye looked at them with fury.
"Gods." One of them breathed, turning to run away into the woods. All of the men began to shake like a leaf in the wind. Their faces dropping as the giant creature opened its mouth and heat emerged out from its jaws.
In a matter of seconds all of the men had flailed around in pain, screams leaving their mouths as they met their fate with fire. Your dragon let out a deep roar from his chest, his wings raising up as the sound vibrated throughout the land.
He quickly took off towards the sky, noticing scattered groups of men beginning to linger towards the town just outside the walls.
The people of Winterfell had all woken up from their sleep when they heard the mighty screech of the dragon. Men assured their wives and children and grabbed their swords, running out of their houses and meeting in the streets.
They all spoke with confusion, wondering what was going on this early in the morning. From edge of the woods, they noticed a group of men lurking towards them. They wondered where the guards were but nonetheless were ready to defend Winterfell. As they grew closer, the Stark men gripped their swords and huddled into a small group on the outskirts of their houses.
"Who are you?! Why are you here?!" One of the men shouted, looking at the green knights.
"We are from House Hightower, sent here for Y/n Stark." All of the men widened their eyes at the soldier's response, shortly their gaze hardened after. They dare threaten their queen.
Just as they were about to charge, they felt the air pick up and they watched as your white dragon swooped in, unleashing a wave of flames onto the group of traitors. They stood there in awe, looking up at the dragon who circled around and made its way back around. The men jumping back when he had landed.
Malyx made his way towards the men who stood outside of the town.
The man who seemed to take leadership, the same man who was the first to kneel to you, slowly walked up to the dragon. Malyx lowered his head and pushed it towards the man. The smith let out breathy laugh and reached out his gloved hand towards the dragon, running his hand across his snout.
Those who were weary of your new companion had now grown rather fond, if not loyal, to Malyx.
Your dragon quickly soared back up to the sky, flying over Winterfell and looking for any other groups of men.
Back in the halls of the castle, you turned your head when you heard your mother scream. The heart wrenching sound cut through your chest like a sharp blade. Your pulse quickened along with the pace you were moving.
You started to sprint through the castle, your boots pounding off the stone floor. The breaths leaving your mouth were ragged and your pace grew faster with each step.
You quickly ran up the stairs of your family's quarters, running down the hall to where your mother and father slept. You heard the sound of furniture crashing against the walls and your mother's cries, your blood running cold. With the door already being open, you ran inside, your feet stopping as you watched the scene in front of you.
Your father was in combat with one of the Hightower men, his sword clashing against the other mans. You looked over to your mother, her eyes widening at the state of you. Blood coated your face and your hair, to her you were almost unrecognizable. Your chest heaved up and down, reaching your hand out to pull your mother to your corner of the room.
Just as you were about to help your father fight, you watched as the other man kicked your father across the room, his sword sliding to the other side of the room. You immediately raised your axe and went to take out the traitor, but you stopped in your tracks. He quickly grabbed the Stark man and held him up to the window, holding him outside.
Yet again you were put in position where all you could do was watch. Though this time the soldier didn't say anything and gave you no choice, watching you with a menacing smirk as he pushed your father out the window.
Cregan flew through the doorway, watching as his father let out a gasp and disappeared in front of all of them. The sound of his body hitting the ground making all of them flinch. He quickly wrapped his arms around his mother and looked towards his sister who was looking at the green soldier with an unpredictable look.
"Oops." Your eye twitched at his response and your hand instantly moved, your dagger piercing into his stomach within seconds. He let out a sound of pain and grasped onto the blade, trying to pull it out of him. You made your way over to him and picked him up by his collar, taking him over to the table next to you and slamming his head on it. You repeated your actions until you felt your brother come up from behind you, pulling you into his arms.
You felt his body shake from sobs but all you did was stand stiffly. With a shaky breath, you pulled away from him and looked into his eyes. "Secure the castle." Returning to the corpse of the Hightower man, you pulled out your dagger and replaced back into its holder.
With that, you began to walk out of the room, one name echoing throughout your mind. You gave a quick glance to your mother before fully leaving and made your way down the hall.
Checking each floor for any attackers that could still be wandering around, you went outside once you believed it was clear. Your feet brought you over to where your father had landed, much to your surprise you saw him cough and turn his head over to you.
You quickly ran over to him, kneeling down and gripping his hand. He heaved, letting out a few heavy coughs. His hand squeezed yours and he looked into your eyes.
"Father." You breathed, inspecting his body and seeing his legs twisted in a way they weren't supposed to be. "My daughter." He shakily replied and you painfully swallowed, bringing his hand up to your mouth and placing a gentle peck on it.
"I'm sorry." You whispered, your voice cracking at the end. He shook his head and looked at you with loving eyes. "I'm okay, I will be okay." He reassured and you looked up when you saw the Grand Maester come running out of the castle. He quickly ran over and got onto the ground with your father, inspecting his injuries. His limbs were broken but with a miracle he survived.
You went to go stand up but felt a tug at your hand, your attention turning back to your father.
"I love you Y/n." After that his eyes slowly shut, his body passing out from the amount of pain he was in. Your lip quivered and you looked over to the maester, the man explaining that he was going to be okay. Clenching your jaw you turned away, standing up and brushing the snow off your clothes.
Suddenly you had one idea in mind after looking around at all your fallen men and Arryelyns body who had laid in the snow. The remnants of the destruction caused by a man, the one man who dared to bring a battle to your very home.
You were bloodied and your body had ached, but he could never break your spirit. That was his mistake.
Your brother came outside, sword in hand as he inspected the scene in front of him. He sighed when he saw his father being carried away inside by the Grand Maester and other guards who had survived. The man's heart dropped when he noticed his mother's handmaiden on the snowy floor, her eyes closed as she silently laid.
Cregan carefully walked up to you, standing next to you and looking down at his feet.
"Winterfell is in your hands now, keep watch while until I return." His brows furrowed at your words, and he turned to look at you with concern. "Where are you going?" You didn't answer his question, walking away and heading towards the direction of the gate.
Your eyes trailed over Arryelyns body, and her last words repeated in your mind.
Be a dragon.
Your brother called out from behind you but you kept your steps sharp, continuing to the gates and pushing them open. Outside of the walls, your dragon was waiting, his wing already turned down for you. You gripped onto the rope that hung off his neck and pulled yourself up, swinging your legs over his back. He fluttered his wing's, and you grabbed the spikes along his back, preparing yourself to take off into the air.
"SĹvÄs."
The residents of Winterfell watched as your dragon took off into the dark sky, a loud roar leaving its mouth. Everyone had finally figured out what had taken place within the wall of the castle. All of the citizens in the town coming out untouched, but the Stark family had taken all consequences from the attack. With your father injured, and your beloved handmaiden dead, everyone knew where you were going.
The horrific events had ignited a fire in you, the dragon that everyone has yet to see was breaking out from its years of being held back. The fire that could only be put out from the action of getting justice. The attack on your home, the terrors inflicted on you and your family, this was unforgivable, and you demanded retribution. Even if it killed you, you would die trying.
Malyx flew as fast has he could, the wind crashed into you and flowed through your hair. Your body only being able to stay upright and conscious from the adrenaline still coursing through your veins.
The flashing images of your mother screaming and Arryelyns pleads, your father's sword clashing with the attacker, Cregan's eyes as he looked over at you, the sound of your axe making contact with nearly three dozen bodies. The blood that coated you was everyone's but your own.
You were coming for Otto Hightower, a head for a head.
Brown eyes fluttered open, soft ringing filling the girl's ears as she groggily pushed herself off of the ground.
Alicent suddenly looked around, standing up with her hand coming up to her head. She felt the remanence of dried blood and suddenly the flashes from the night before replayed. The girl immediately felt sick as she knew the attack on your family had taken place, she was too late. She had gotten knocked out and now the light shinned through her balcony.
She needed to get to the king, or Rhaenyra. At this rate it didn't matter who, but she knew her father was currently making his escape. If she didn't find a way to get out, he would walk away a free man.
The girl looked around for an escape, hearing the sound of metal outside her door. The knight still stood outside her door, so she knew it was impossible to try to make a run for it.
The breeze from her open balcony door flew into her room, her hair flying up at the gust of wind. She whipped her head over and slowly walked over to the balcony. The drop was not terrible, but she wouldn't get up without a few injuries. With a deep breath, not even bothering to find a different way, she climbed over the railing. The bushes below her moved with the wind and would help break her impact towards the ground.
With one look up to the sky, she prayed to the God of the seven and pushed herself off. "Shit." She cursed, her body filled with pain from the impact and the sticks that pricked her side. All she knew was that she was alive and for her that was enough. Taking a quick look around, she looked for anyone that could help her.
The Lord Commander turned his head towards her and looked at her with concern, flying over to the girl.
"Lady Alicent! Are you okay?" He questioned, picking her up by her arms and placing her on the ground next to the bush. She nodded, wincing at the new pain in her ankle when her feet touched the grass. "I'm fine Lord Commander, I need you to help me." She breathed, looking up to him with urgency. He quickly nodded, scared and confused as to why the girl had just fallen from her balcony.
"My father had sent out word to attack the Starks last night. It has already happened. I had figured out and went to go tell the king, but he had Criston Cole take me to my room, I had been knocked out and only just awoke. My father should be on a ship right now in the bay. You need to get to the king!" Alicent quickly spit out, her chest heaving up and down. The knight gulped at her words and looked around, catching Maester Orwyle coming down the hall. He called out to the man and instructed him to take Alicent somewhere safe.
"I will get to him Lady Alicent." He replied, looking down at the shaking girl. She gave him a grateful smile and allowed Orwyle to lead her down the hall and into his own quarters.
Ser Harrold turned his attention back to the other side of the hallway and quickly began moving towards the council room, having just been talking with the king he knew where his whereabouts were.
He knew he shouldnât have trusted that Cole boy. The way he held himself was enough to convince Harrold that he was not as reliable as he once believed.
The knight briskly walked, throwing open the council door and making the people in the room jump from the loud noise. The king looked up at him in confusion, standing up from his seat. Rhaenyra turned her eyes to the door and felt her stomach drop. Harrold looked at her with an unreadable look, but it was enough for her to get up from her seat as well.
"What is it, Lord Commander?" Viserys asked, walking over to him and looking at him nervously. The knight took a deep breath before answering his question. "Lord Otto Hightower has carried out an attack in Winterfell, according to Lady Alicent, she had found out but was locked in her room." Rhaenyra's heart began to race after she heard the words, her mind drawing blank. The news hit her like a heavy brick, and it slowly started to sink into her.
The air in the room grew cold, all of the members of the council looking rather grim at the news the knight brought.
"Where is Otto?" The princess mumbled out, her fists were clenched into fists on top of the table. Her gaze was turned to the knight, Harrold's heart breaking at the pale coloration of her face. "Alicent claimed that he had already boarded a ship, he shouldn't be too far in the bay." The king turned around and nearly ran to the window, looking out into the ocean.
Sure enough, a single ship sat on top of the waves. The Hightower sigil sewed onto the sails. Viserys gripped the windowsill and turned around, anger and betrayal swirling in his eyes. "We must act swiftly, this treachery will not be swept under the rug. Gather a group of men and send them after his ship. Return him to me...dead or alive!" Everyone's eyes widened at his outburst, the rather tame king completely switching into another personality that no one had seen before.
"I'm going to Winterfell on Syrax." She muttered, harshly shoving her seat into the table and making her way towards the door. "You will not!" Her father yelled, his eyes training on his daughters.
She whipped her head around with an incredulous look in her eyes. The king felt his posture soften at the his daughterâs reaction, tears were welled up in her eyes and her breathing was shallow. He went to go respond but decided against it, keeping his mouth shut and giving her a small nod.
The king knew of the anger surging through his daughter's body right now, it was similar to his but hers was much more personal. This was no political maneuver... this was a direct attack onto the Targaryen family and those they loved. Rhaenyra's gaze hardened at her father's unspoken answer and continued her way outside of the room, storming down the hall and bursting through the doors. As soon as her feet hit the dirt of the ground, she was running towards the horses.
Back in the council room, Viserys was pacing back in forth, watching as the ship began to grow smaller and smaller.
"Your Grace, I must go find Criston Cole. He was working with Otto, he could be a growing threat." The commander explained, opening up the door and stepping outside.
"Be safe Lord Commander."
The knight carefully made his way through the hall, turning each corner with caution as he searched for the man. His sword was in his hand as he looked around, his head turning in every direction.
All of his sudden, his eyes found those of the man he was looking for. Standing outside of Alicents quarters was Criston Cole, still oblivious to the fact that Lady Alicent was no longer in her room.
Criston instantly knew that his partnership with Otto Hightower had been revealed and he threw open the door behind him. Scowling as he noticed the lack of the girl's presence in the room.
"Give it up Ser Criston." The commander called from across the hall, making his way towards the man. "Fuck." The younger knight cursed, turning around and drawing his sword.
In a split second the two engaged into battle, swords clashing as they fought for dominance. Criston was a skilled knight, but the Lord Commander had more experience, and the rage in him was enough to give him extra strength. They went back and forth, both of them getting good hits on each other.
The older man felt his arm begin to grow tired and he started to focus on his defense. Criston took this as an opportunity and kicked out his leg from underneath him, the knight dropping onto his knees.
Ser Harrold's eyes widened, and he went to reach for his sword but stopped as he felt a sharp pain in his side. He looked down and watched as Criston pulled out his blade, a smirk on his face. The commander brought his hands up to his stomach and applied pressure, noticing that the other man held up his sword and was going to finish the job.
Just before he could swing, Criston Cole felt his body bounce off the wall behind him. The sword in his hands was flung across the hall and his knees were kicked out from underneath him, arms holding him back as two individuals detained him. He twisted around in their grip, snarling at them with curses and threats. One of the knights backhanded him and his head twisted to the side, dropping down to rest on his chest as he lost consciousness.
Ser Harrold painfully stood up, his hand still holding onto his wound. He looked at the young men holding up Criston and gave them short nods, silently thanking them for their loyalty.
"We are at your service Lord Commander, what shall we do with the traitor." The tall one asked, shifting his arm and getting a firmer grip on the man that was out cold. "Take him to the dungeon, do not leave until I come send for you." They gave him small bows and dragged the man down the hall.
Ser Harrold felt himself start to get lightheaded and he limped down the hallway, knocking at the door of the Grand Maester. Orwyle carefully opened the door, his eyes widening at the injured man. He ushered him in, looking outside the door to see if anyone saw him before closing it and locking the hatch.
Rhaenyra jumped off her horse, instructing the guards outside the dragon pit to tie it up. She quickly dusted herself off and ran inside, instructing the dragonkeepers to hurry and get Syrax outside.
She looked around, her legs shaking and her palms growing sweaty. The girl felt frustrated that she wasn't there for you, she had no idea the state of you right now. Was your family safe?
She couldn't imagine the emotions swirling around in your head. The uncertainty of your safety was gnawing at her, she needed to know that you were okay.
The worries she had when you were fighting the free folk were nothing compared to the ones she had now. She knew of your bravery and your fierceness, but this time you weren't protecting the North, you were protecting your family from a direct attack.
The princess turned her body when she heard her yellow dragon let out high pitched growls from her throat. Syrax could sense the distress in her rider and ruffled her wings, walking over to Rhaenyra without the guidance of the dragonkeepers.
Rhaenyra quickly climbed up onto her dragon, settling herself into the saddle and making sure she was secure. With a quick command Syrax took off into the sky and let out a short roar, her voice echoing throughout the land of Kindslanding.
Before the princess could direct her dragon north, she remembered how there was possibly more working with Otto. She needed to get to her father quickly to tell him to work carefully.
With one quick motion, she pulled on the reins and turned Syrax in the direction of the Redkeep. She would land on the beach and run up from the back stairs, letting the guards outside bring the message to her father.
Syrax flew with a steady rhythm, her wings producing much more powerful strokes as she felt the urgency of her rider's purpose.
"Tegot Syrax!" The princess commanded, gripping on the reins as her dragon swooped down towards the ground. The feet of the creature dug into the sand, the force sending particles flying as the ground shook. She heard her dragon grumble from beside her and looked at the direction her head was pointing in.
A small boat with a group of men, the green coloring on their clothes giving off whose side they were on. The men that were pushing it into the water stopped when they saw the dragon hit the ground. Now that their swords were all out, Rhaenyra couldn't help but feel worried for her safety.
She watched as they talked amongst themselves, wondering what they were to do with the princess. It seems that they had made up their minds and they started walked towards Rhaenyra. Syrax let out a loud screech as an arrow soared into her neck. The dragon was not used to any pain, she was not one to fight in a battle. The princess looked up to her dragon in terror, backing up behind her and watching as they came closer.
"Dracarys." The words left her mouth in a whisper, but the dragon heard, her mouth opening with a screech as she unleashed the flames among the group of men. The princess watched in fear and tucked her head into her dragon's head, trying to drown out the voices that were calling for help.
Once the sound of only fire crackling could be heard, she pried her head away from Syrax and ran up the hill. She made her way up the stairs and called over the guards. They all ushered to her in a panic, wondering why the Princess was outside during these dangerous times. She instructed them to tell her father immediately of possible traitors in the keep, though she assumed that most if not all of them had just been burnt to a crisp by her dragon.
They nodded at her words and ran into the castle. She let out a breath and went down the stairs again, returning to her dragon. Syrax was trying to turn her head back far enough to pry the arrow sticking out from her skin, baring her teeth in frustration.
"Let me help." The princess spoke, running her hands along her dragon in hopes to calm her down. She grabbed the arrow and gently pulled it out of the dragon, Syrax letting out a small growl. The size of the arrow was a mere thorn to the dragon, which Rhaenyra felt grateful for.
"Let's jikagon naejot Y/n." She muttered, climbing back onto the creature once again. Syrax pushed off the ground and circled herself around, heading north. (Let's go to y/n).
Suddenly, from the sky the princess heard the call of a dragon. It's deafening screech cutting through the silence of the bay like a blade. The sound being so primal, sent alarm throughout her and Syrax, the two of them landing on the beach once more.
No other dragon riders were currently in Kingslanding, her uncle's dragon was with him. She spent enough time with the dragon to know that the piercing sound was not from him. She instinctively pulled on Syrax's reigns, holding on tight as they watched from the shoreline.
There was no sign of a dragon, the white clouds above had created a large blanket over the blue skies making it impossible to tell. She looked around for the dark colors of the dragon, not seeing any movement in the sky.
Further into the ocean, Otto Hightower sat smugly on a large ship. A group of twenty men alongside him, smuggling him back to Oldtown. He knew that the king has most likely found out by now, his traitorous daughter would have found a way to betray her father's commands. It would be too late for the king to send ships after him, and there is no way he would send his only child to fight on dragon back. She would be a fool to think she could take out a group of men, she had no battle skills and certainly no military tactics. She was a pampered brat, according to Otto Hightower.
Attacking the Starks was a risky move, though he had only hoped you learned your lesson. How dare you threaten him.
By the time you would even get to Kingslanding by horseback, Otto would be safely in Oldtown preparing an army to withstand any attacks from you.
The man was knocked out of his thoughts when he heard the blood curdling scream of a dragon. His face blanked and he stood up from his seat on the deck, looking up towards the sky. The crew on the ship began to murmur concerns, all of their hands coming to sit on the handle of their swords resting on their hips. There was no way Rhaenyra Targaryen was going to fight, and much to his annoyance he has heard the many calls of Syrax. The low pitch of the roar made him believe this wasn't a dragon from the keep.
Both Otto and Rhaenyra watched, eyes darting around their surroundings.
Back in the Redkeep, all of the council members, including the king and queen watched from the balcony. Having heard the mighty call of a dragon they moved outside, the couple wondering if their daughter was in danger.
Everyone had waited, all of them looking for an answer but there were no shadows giving them a sign.
From the castle, Otto's ship was slowly disappearing. The king's ships had just left and it would be a while before they could even reach the man.
The eyes of everyone widened as they saw wings flapping in the sky, another haunting scream cutting through the air. This time, it was one from a human.
A white dragon fell from the sky, its body cutting through the clouds and straight towards the Hightower ship. It swirled through the air; another loud roar left its mouth as it neared the vessel. The dark spot on its back allowed everyone to believe it had a rider, the large unknown dragon had already been claimed.
"It has a rider." The queen muttered to her husband next to her, looking at him with worry. He looked down at her and nodded, his heart pounding at his chest of what possibly could happen now.
Rhaenyra watched in awe, as she has never seen a dragon that quick yet alone with that coloration. It was white as snow, a beautiful creature. This was going to bring justice towards your attack in the North, she could care less who was on the dragon.
The dragon continued to spiral down, everyone wondering if it was going to crash in the ship due to the rate of its speed. Gasps filled the room, and the dragon just barely missed the ship, corkscrewing over midair and continuing to shoot back up into the direction of clouds.
Everyone watching the scene unfold in front of them with confusion, why had the dragon missed the ship. Before it ascended back into the clouds, they couldn't help but notice the lack of coloration on its back. The rider was gone.
Otto Hightower ducked as the large beast had flown over him, he stumbled and gripped the side of the ship. The vessel rocked back in forth in the choppy waters, the waves created from the power of the dragon's wings. He watched as his crew ran to respond to this sudden movement, preparing to abandon ship. The escape he had been so smug about was far away, it was no longer guaranteed. He cursed under his breath, looking up towards the dragon and seeing the riderless back.
He looked around with fearful eyes, wondering where this person could have gone. He quickly checked over the walls of the ship and inspected the waters, but below him was nothing but waves.
The gasps of his men were enough to make him not want to turn around. He heard the drawing of their swords he grimly turned around, his heart nearly exploding at the sight in front of him.
There, on the top of the deck, stood Y/n Stark. Your presence was almost nightmarish. Your hair was slicked back and coated with dried blood and sweat, your clothes torn and covered with grime and more bodily fluids. But what truly unsettled Otto was the look in your eyes.
You looked like a dragon.
Your eyes were slits, the prominent bags under your eyes and the snarl of your mouth showed Otto that he was not leaving this ship. The aura radiating from only your eyes could be taken as a warning, the smell of death falling over the ship.
Otto stumbled back as you tightened your grip on your weapon.
"You are outnumbered Y/n." He gritted, backing up into the wall behind him. You lowered your gaze, your lip twitching in fury. The man was absolutely petrified from your lack of words, and rightfully so.
Numbers had never stopped you.

summary: Johanna arrives in Capitol after the war and finds out some horrible news.
wc: 3.2k
warnings: mdni, angst, use of y/n, character death, grief, not proofread.
~~~~~
Watching from the sidelines was agony. If it were for that stupid Block Test, Johanna would be storming The Capitol with you, with Finnick, with the damn Mockingjay herself. Yet, here she was in the hospital staring at the white tiled walls. She didnât know if you were okay or not and it drove her up the wall.
Communication between the group could not be achieved without interference from the Capitol. The âfallen tributeâ propo was played and it nearly caused Johanna to faint. The District 7 girl marched down to Beetee and demanded to know the truth. He had shown her the hacked camera system in the Capitol where everyone in the team had gone underground except for the guy that Peeta pushed into the tar.
She replayed the seconds of you walking by the camera near the middle of the group. You had held your weapon in your right hand and your left hand fiddled with the blue hospital bracelet that Johanna had given you.
You were still alive but heading deeper into the heart of Panem. It wasnât going to be easy for you and the team. Johanna believed in you, after all, you were nicknamed the Career Grim Reaper as you ended the 6 year career streak between Enobaria and Augustus Braun. In your Hunger Games, you won with a scythe, chopping peopleâs bodies and head clean in half. With the added bonus of your taller than average height of 5â9â for a woman you could reach enemies from further. As for close range combat, beetee made sure you were able to retract the staff and have your scythe double as a sickle.
A few days later was when Snow lost all his supporters by bombing his own citizens. Johanna could care less, about them. They all deserved to burn in her eyes. He was captured by the rebels and Coin wanted all the victors to watch his executions. Alas, that event would come later as members of squad 451 were injured.
She was flown to the Capitol in a helicarrier with Beetee, Haymitch and Annie. Johanna nearly threw Annie out of it for annoying her. Annieâs nervous habit of biting her nails earned glares from the district 7 victor. Coin and her sources never told them who was injured.
When the helicarrier landed, the victors were escorted through the mansion. It was like the opposite of the rescue mission where she and Annie were in the hospital beds and Finnick and you were the ones running to them.
Annie started running first, desperate to see if her husband was okay. It made Johanna run behind her to try and find you. Annie barged through the door finding Finnick with a cast on his left arm and torso. âFinnick!â
âAnnie!â He held her with the same intensity he did in District 13, the same passion on their wedding day. The kissed without a care in the world as Johanna searched the room.
Her heart rate picked up the longer she spent without you. âWhereâs Y/n?â
Finnick turned over and gave her a solemn look with tear stains on his cheek. âIâm sorry.â He whispered.
âWhat are you talking about. Where is Y/n?â
Annie had pulled away slightly curious as to his answer of where you were. In Finnickâs mind, he was reliving the moment after the Quell, when you woke up on the helicarrier and asked where Johanna was. It broke his heart because in both cases, he would have to deliver a painful blow. âSheâs- sheâs dead. Y/nâs dead.â
Annie gasped throwing her hand over her mouth. The room ran cold and Johanna scoffed. âIf this is your idea of a joke, itâs sick.â
âYou know this is something I would never joke about.â Finnick replies and Annie begins to cry.
Johanna shakes her head. âNo I donât believe you. Just bring me to her. I want to see her.â
âThere is no body Johanna. She was blown up.â
âShe canât have just left nothing!â Johanna yelled, tears threatening to fall down her face. âWhat about her weapon, a scorched piece of clothes. The hospital bracelet I gave her as a token. Something.â
Finnickâs face twisted in pain remembering your last moments. âNothing.â He said with his shaky voice. Unlike Johanna, he let the tears start rolling down his cheek. Annie reaches over and wipes his tears.
Johanna glared at the lovers tender moments. Oh how she wanted that more than anything right now. After all you and her have been through, that much was owed to her. She pushes her feelings down with a deep breath. âTell me- tell me what happened. Please.â
Finnick closed his eyes and winced. Johanna saw him thumb the small robe he had with him. âWe escaped underground to rest for a bit. We woke to lizard mutts tracking Katnissâ scent but it didnât matter, they ripped through anything that moved.
âWe lost most of the district 13 soldiers before we decided to get out of the sewers. They had us at a choke point, we were surrounded and we had to go up an old rusty ladder.
âWe were one of the last ones to go up. When I climbed. The mutts pulled me down by my shoulder and parts of the ladder with me. I heard the crack in my arm and I thought I was dead. Y/n saved my life, she killed the mutts around me with her scythe, threw me over her shoulder and ran. The camera crew shot at the mutts behind us but they kept coming.
âY/n got us to another ladder and pushed me up. Pollux and Gale were there to pull me out of the sewers.âFinnick paused as he began to cry again. âI thought- I thought she was right behind me but all I heard was her screaming. She was nowhere in sight. The mutts had gotten to her and they were ripping her apart. Katniss blew them up and put Y/n out of her misery.â
Finnick barely finished retelling your last moments before Johanna stormed out of the infirmary. Her feet brought her to a room of glass vases and ceramic podiums. They mustâve had some significance to Snow but she didnât care. Her breath quickened. She swiped at the glass and watched them shatter on the ground. She shoved the podiums over and let them crack.
Johanna rampaged through the room throwing and kicking anything that could break. The glass, the clay. She hated it all. You were dead only several hours before the war ended. It wasnât fair, of all people, you didnât deserve to die. You were good. Johanna fell to her knees, not caring about the broken glass cutting up her legs. She clumped a bunch in her hands and watched as the red liquid cascaded down to the floor. The red contrasting against the white marble floor as pure as snow.
Snow. Everything went back to him. Her pain, her losses: Her family, you. You. Your suffering. Your agony. Your death. It was all his fault. Johanna grunted in anger before turning from the room. She didnât care if Katniss wanted to be the one to kill snow, Johanna had every right to kill him.
Before she could though, one of the training doctors saw her bloody hand and Johanna was taken to the infirmary. They were gentle with her and she hated it. Memories of defying the District 13 doctors swirled in her mind. She had refused to allow treatment in fear of it being a facade. She was afraid to be hurt again and you stayed by her side glaring at the Doctors who would cause Johanna to even wince.
The cut on her hand didnât hurt despite the amount of blood coming through. The pain came from her chest. How it beat against her rib cage like it was trapped and trying to squeeze through the ridges and jump out of her body. Johanna even felt her heart beat in her throat and it made her nauseous. Her breath quickened as she tried to swallow the lump in her throat.
She stepped away quickly from the doctors, not caring if they hadnât finished patching her up. Something overcame her, despite her hate for the Hunger Games, she went to the library where all the games were stored in the archive. Johanna cradled your taped game in her bloody hand.
There was a small lounge area with a television and the District 7 victor sat firmly in it watching your game. You were 16 at the time and besides the baby fat you almost looked the same now. The same muscular features highlighted your tall stature. She spent 3 hours watching you and your games and when it was done, she rewinded all the way to the beginning to watch it again.
Another reason for your nickname being the Career Grim Reaper was that you killed them all. You managed to join the careers and at night during your watch, The other district 9 tribute emerged from the bushes and together you slit their throats. The other two barely had time to react to the cannons before you sliced their heads off.
Your partner tried to get the upper hand on you when you shook hands but you quickly held him in a choke hold yelling at him to stop. He kept thrashing and managed to stab you in the arm. With great reluctance in your face and a quick apology, you snapped his neck.
The 68th Hunger Games was replayed a few times before someone came looking for Johanna. Being the stubborn and cranky woman she was, she stayed in the single seat, ignoring her stomachâs call for food just to see you. She could feel your spirit and your strength as if you were sitting next to her. It felt comforting.
The house maid brought her food at Finnickâs request and Johanna proceeded to ârotâ in front of the televisions. She only got up to use the restroom for the next week. Then a district 13 soldier came to ask her to a meeting. She didnât want to go through the trouble of finding you tape again so she pocketed it.
She was greeted by some of the other victors, Finnick, Annie, Beetee, Peeta, Haymitch and surprisingly Enobaria. Katniss walked in and Johanna glared daggers at the mockingjay. That brainless girl was the reason youâre dead, but the death of her sister enough pain for her. Sheâd know the meaning of loss for the rest of her life.
President Coin gathered the remaining victors and with a short protest, Johanna found that Enobaria, along with herself, Peeta, and Annie, they were granted immunity. Shes still trying to to kill Enobaria, she was probably lying comfortably in her bed while everyone else fought for their freedom. She proposed a vote for a symbolic hunger games.
This was unfair. You were a victor you shouldâve been there at the vote. It was your right. It was upsetting how you were hours away from a stop at this table. Regardless, in her anger and revenge she votes yes in hopes that Snowâs granddaughter gets reaped and he has to watch her die.
After the vote, came the execution. Everyone far and wide came to witness the death of a tyrannical dictator. Imagine being hated so much that everyone comes to witness your execution. Katniss broke her promise again! Instead of killing Snow, she killed Coin. Across the way, she could hear Snowâs maniacal laughter. Johanna clenched her fists and she felt the glass piece from last week cut her hand. The girl quickly pulled it out and flung at Snowâs head.
She watched a brilliant spray of blood and his laughter cease. People shoved her aside as they stormed to get their hands on President Snow. If he wasnât dead from the glass in his face, heâd be dead from the crowd. Either way, he wouldnât get the last laugh.
One of the guards, yanked her from the crowd and pulled her to safety. Yeah, protect the victor. Where was this level of security for you? They sent the victors back to their districts and before she got on hers, Finnick and Annie approached her.
âWe know how much you love the forest, so when you need a break with watching that tape, eat something okay. Weâre going to figure things out on our end so we can go to District 7 with you.â
âIâm not a child Finnick, Iâll be fine.â
âDonât fight us on this. If I come over and smell the stench of rotting flesh I will bring you back from hell to kill you myself.â Finnick stepped closer to threaten her.
âReally? Threatening a victor?â
âYes, how low of me. Iâm not threatening a victor, Iâm threatening my best friend.â
Johanna snapped her head at him as he used those words. If looks could kill, Finnick wouldâve been in hell. âDonât call me that! We both know Y/n was your best friend and I swear if you erase herâŚâ
âShe saved my life. Iâm not erasing her. Itâs just that sheâs de- I can have two best friends.â
âNo you canât.â
âOkay fine. Iâm threatening my best friendâs lover. I owe her that much, to take care of you.â
On the train ride home, she watched your game again. Feeling prouder and prouder of what you had done. Watching you at that young age, you were like a stranger to her. A stranger she knew everything about.
She knew your hobby which was beer crafting. She knew your family consisting of just your grandfather who passed away at the old age of 83 a few months after the 73rd Hunger Games. She knew how the rest of them died, your mom dying in childbirth and your father dying a couple months after from heartbreak. She knew about your spunk, any thought you said, you said without muttering. She knew about your habit, like how youâd pick at the skin around your finger nails or the way your eye twitches when someone chews with their mouth open. She knew of your fears, like your fear of the dark and being alone with no one to love you. She knew your favorite food, her own Marionberry pie with a bit of ice cream on the top. She knew the way youâd pick up the telephone by saying hello twice in quick succession. She even knew your fighting style and that you preferred close quarter combat.
After finding out about your passing she had yet to cry. Annie had cried, Finnick cried, Katniss almost cried. Hell even Enobaria cried. Her voice had broke on the phone a few months after returning home and she cried to Johanna. She just pulled the phone away from her ear and brought it back when she thought Enobaria was done. Alas, she was still in tears. Johanna managed a âthere thereâ and called it a day.
It wasnât because she didnât miss you she missed you everyday. She just couldnât cry even if she wanted to. Itâs as if sheâs wasted all her tears before ever truly knowing you. She watched your games less and less throughout the years, and the Odairâs even named their daughter after you.
There were days where she couldnât get up because of the heartache and then days like today she hadnât thought of you so far. Finnick and Annie had their kids over for her birthday tomorrow and Johanna played with them as they splashed through the splash pad. Annie slowly got Johanna to be comfortable with the water.
She was turning 24 tomorrow and it dawned on Johanna that you never got to be 24, dying a few months short. You would never get the chance to be 24, 25, 26 and so on. She didnât know what overcame her, before she knew it her tears fell out of her eyes torrentially.
Wiping at her tears, Johanna grew crazy when they wouldnât stop. The time for crying was long over. Itâs been over for 3 years. She was okay now, Johanna was sure of it. The weight of grief had lifted off her chest already, but now she felt it all. You were forever going to be 23 and she was going to be older than you now. The last time she saw you in person was when you told her youâd âsee her soonâ. She never got to see you again and anytime she conjured up an image of you, it was the 16 year old stranger. It was unfair.
She bit her lip to stop herself but the moment your namesake saw the glistening skin under her eye, her small hands shook the victorâs shoulder asking, âAunty Jo? Are you okay?â
âY/n Iâm okay.â She looked into the childâs eye and burst into tears. Johanna pulls Finnick and Annieâs second child in for a hug and bawls repeating your name. The parents snapped into action when they heard the crying only to find Johanna in tears.
It was Annie that arrived first. Her daughter stood there confused and wouldnât move when Annie tried to pull her away. Your namesake wrapped her arms around Johanna to let her cry. Finnick arrived shortly after seeing Annie pat her on the back. He mouthed âwhat happenedâ to his wife but she only shrugged.
The couple were at a loss for words, but luckily, as parents, they knew what to do. They tried to pry Johanna from their daughter but she held on. It wasnât until later at dinner when Johanna spoke up.
âI donât want to celebrate my birthday.â
Finnick and Annie darted their eyes between each other and their honorary oldest child. âWhy not?â Johanna mumbled her answer. âWhat was that?â
âI said I donât want to be older than Y/n! I donât want to be 24 when sheâs stuck at 23! She had so much ahead of her. Iâm forgetting what she looks like, what she sounds like. I miss her laugh. At this point she might as well be a stranger. I had no right to cry.â
âEveryone has a right to cry Johanna, we do it. Tears donât make you weak and you can designate time to cry but it doesnât mean grieving is over. It comes and goes. We tell our kids about Y/n, they remember her through stories. They practically know everything about her at least from what we knew of her. We keep her alive that way.â Annie tells as Johanna pouts.
âItâs unfair.â Johanna says.
âAuntie Jo.â Your namesake called. âMommy and daddy say we live for the people who cannot.â Johanna smiles hearing your words echo throughout the Odair family.
âYeah even if we never met old Y/n, itâs like we still know her!â Their son joined in.
That was who you are now, a stranger the people around you know everything about and although it has its sad moments you live on through memory.
Surprise Plan
~~~~~
summary: You and the fellow victors gather for a small get together last minute or at least thatâs what you thought.
wc: 4.6k
warnings: mdni, alcohol use, use of y/n and l/n (your name and last name), brief nudity(topless), mentions of acrophobia(fear of heights), mentions of hydrophobia, unclear transitions between a memory and reality(maybe)
~~~~~
You were frantically running around the house making sure everything was in order and baby proofed when there was a knock at the door. Johanna was cooped up in her crafts room for weeks but this knock sprung her to life letting her feet move on their own to the door. You had your hand on the doorknob when Johanna rushed to it pushing you out of the way and swung the door open to Finnick, Annie and baby Flynn. Finnick held his son in his arms as Flynn rested his head against Finnickâs shoulder slowly waking up.
You greeted the district 4 couple from the floor and reached your hand out to their kid. He reached out for you because baby Flynn always loved when you brought him to play on the textured quilt you made. Finnick gave you the baby bag before Johanna grabbed at Finnickâs loose hem and whisked him away to her crafts room.
She never let anyone in there when she was working on a project so when you looked at Annie, she gave a shrug and brought the tray of lobster into the kitchen. It was a feat that she kept them all alive from District 4, then again itâs Annie and sheâs got the nurturing hand of a mother. She even hummed to them to get the lobsters to sleep before cooking them. You remember when you thought it was a joke but then you watched her and was absolutely gobsmacked when she balanced them on their heads. Their tails curled in and they stopped moving.
Johanna suggested that they should do that to baby Flynn and she was promptly never allowed to babysit him without you, although Finnick seemed amused by it and onboard with trying it out and even held Flynn upside down. Safe to say, Finnick slept on the couch that night.
Johanna woke you up this morning telling you that the other victors were coming over sometime in the evening and you spent the rest of the day cleaning the house. Annie and Finnick couldnât have come at a better time because the mess was just cleaned, Johanna was usually good about keeping the house clean but itâs like last night after you went to bed, she purposely let a tornado run through. That was an overstatement she just rearranged some of the appliances but you hated when things were out of place.
Beetee had work in the Capitol but you were able to ask him about what time Peeta, Katniss and Haymitch would arrive. Right in time for dinner at 8 which was 4 hours away. You were bouncing baby Flynn on your hip, helping Annie with the vegetables when Johanna pushed Finnick out of the room hastily. He had stopped in the middle of the room with an awkward smile. âWow Annie, you are so beautiful.â
You watched her blush while balancing a lobster. âAwwww cute. Flynn this is what you should be like when you grow up.â You held back a laugh before cooing.
âEw, okay now move your fish brains.â Johanna said pushing Finnick.
You ended up helping Annie for the next few hours and especially with playing with Flynn. It had been hours since Johanna and Finnick left the cabin and you had no idea where they went. It was getting annoying since Johanna was the one who knew everyone was coming and didnât bother to help.
Annie could tell you were getting stressed when you started running a hole into the ground with your pacing. She took Flynn from you and guided you to the sofa in the living room and ran her fingertips through your hair trying to calm you down though it was all for not when the doorbell rang and you sprang up to get it.
Right on schedule, Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch arrived at your cabin. You hugged them and heard some quacking behind them, Haymitch had two geese with him waddling in outfits. âHaymitch, whatâs with the geese?â
âOh yeah itâs for you and Johanna. Y/n, meet goose you and goose Johanna. Theyâre your we-â He didnât get to finish his sentence before Katniss slapped him upside the head. Peeta came with the garlic bread and Katniss had a block of butter from a goat and she was going to melt some for the lobster.
You caught what he was about to say, there werenât many words that started with those sounds and you and Johanna had an extensive conservation about marriage for the past three months. Your heart fluttered in your chest but you were still annoyed at Johanna for up and leaving with Finnick and not helping around the house especially when she knew you were going to have guests over.
Speak of the devil, and she shall appear, Johanna ran into the cabin almost out of breath with Finnick in tow.
âWhere have you been?â
âI needed Finnickâs help with something.â
âFor four hours?â
Johanna cut you off by flashing you and subsequently everyone in the room. You glared at her. You never liked that she was so open with being naked or in this case topless, mostly because you hated sharing but it did work, you shut up, looking at her with a smirk. It worked a little too well as Flynn made grabby hands at Johanna. âMilky!â
You laughed as Finnick threw a pillow at her to cover up. You guided Annie to the guest room with the long seat so she could nurse Flynn. You had Peeta help set the table for 7 and pulled a high chair from the closet that Johanna and you made for baby Flynn. She did the wooden frame and you flourished it with the cushions you made yourself. Much like all the other furniture in the house. You went back to the kitchen with Katniss.
âHow have you been Katniss?â You made it a habit to check in on your fellow victors speaking to them through the phone as you sewed, knitted or crocheted something.
âSometimes I think thereâs nothing else to live for, without Prim, without my mom.â
âYeah grief can do that.â
âIs this what it was like when you lost your family?â
âLike thereâs nothing to live for? I mean I lived my whole life without them, but I still feel the loneliness of it. Some days I thought I had no purpose and I was better off dead.â
âWas that why you volunteered for your games?â
âPartly, I didnât have anyone to grieve me but the little girl, Esther, she had a family, a place to call home. Itâs crazy how your will to survive completely changes who you are. I was ready to die in that arena, but here we are. Things didnât get better for a long time, I felt like I was stuck, I didnât want to live and I didnât want to die, but I didnât want to go back to the girl I was before I volunteered. I couldnât. That was when I decided I was ready to move forward despite my grief. Of course thatâs the year Johanna won her games. I reached out to her and then she kept reaching out after that, at the most random times of the day too. I had to install a phone in all of my rooms so Iâd actually hear the phone ring. She is the fire that lights up the void in my heart. Anyway, grief takes time Katniss. When youâre ready, the world will be too.â
You were too busy conversing with Katniss to notice Johanna watching you as she leaned against the wall with a giant smirk on her face. Following Katnissâ gaze you found Johanna and winked at her. She grabbed your chin and pulled you in for a kiss.
âEw get a room.â Katniss announced.
Johanna pulled away with a glare. âThis entire house is ours, so if you donât like it, youâre welcomed to leave Swamp Potato.â You felt her try to rush at Katniss but promptly held her hips.
âNo, we are not doing this right now. Go sit down.â You pointed towards the table. âNow.â Johanna grumbled before dragging her feet as you kept your eyes on her. When she suddenly paused, you knew Katniss was doing something behind your back to aggravate your girl. âKatniss.â You said sternly. Johanna smirked and stuck out her tongue. All it took was a deep sigh for the two of them to stop their antics.
Haymitch who was looting your alcohol stash bellowed with laughter. âAnd this is why Finnick and Annie chose you to be their babyâs godmother.â You turned your glare towards Haymitch and the alcohol in his hands. He immediately shut up. âIâll go sit down until dinner is ready.â
âI think you should.â You agreed with a nod.
Dinner was pleasantly quiet. Finnick and Johanna were sharing looks towards each other like they did in the Quarter Quell when they tried to hide the breakout plan from Katniss and Peeta. You had to pretend you didnât see it and it was hard. Normally Johanna would be staring at you every chance she got, only avoiding eye contact with you when she had something to hide like that one time she accidentally unraveled the crocheted bunny you were making. Finnick was a little better tending to Flynn on the high chair to keep his hands busy.
Katniss slipped up once by saying marriage instead of margarine. Glares were thrown at her at the table as you mindlessly passed her the butter. Peeta âif it werenât for the babyâ Mellark was an excellent liar but when the topic of cakes came up, you saw him tense when you told him that you loved the cake for Annie and Finnick, he choked.
Surprisingly enough, Annie was the best at keeping the secret. You had not expected it from your best friend having held her in her delirious state after her games and Finnick took to answering the interview questions. You were the first person who was patient with her, even scolding Finnick before the District 4 train left the Capitol to go home urging him to be more gentle with Annie. The Odair Family came over often after the war and with Finnick and Johanna being thick as thieves, you naturally became close with Annie. The woman was just enjoying her lobster the way she cooked them having no reaction to the word, marriage, ring or other related words. Though you could see her through your peripheral when she gave quick glances at you whenever you did something for Johanna and vice versa.
The tension was cut when the phone rang and you simply leaned back, balancing on your chair to reach for telephone. âHello. Mason residence.â You watched as Johanna spit out her food. You always addressed the phone Mason and Y/L/N residence.
âHi, Y/N congratulations on your engagement.â Beetee said on the other line.
âOh that. Yeah that hasnât happened yet.â You laughed. âI will send you the blanket as soon as possible. Iâve just been a little bit busy today.â
âOh no Iâve ruined it. Iâm sorry.â
âNo. Itâs okay. Call back tomorrow to check in okay?â You chuckled as the other hurriedly went dead.
âWho was that?â Johanna asked.
âIt was Enobaria asking about the blanket Iâm making her.â You nonchalantly lied going back to your food.
âI forgot that she existed.â Johanna mumbled. She had always been angry at Enobaria, mostly because of any of the victors left, you had once admitted that you had a crush on her. It never went anywhere of course but when Johanna found out, she grew a new hatred for the career woman. After the vote, when she had no fear of âbeing her weaknessâ she pulled you by your collar as everyone was leaving and kissed you hard in front of them.
You were shocked at first but melted into the kiss as you could finally have her without hiding it. Finnick wolf-whistled as Haymitch laughed. Johanna would have taken you right in that room if you hadnât had somewhere to be. You thanked Peeta for the reminder and held Johannaâs hand the whole way to the city circle for Snowâs execution.
Beside you, Johanna was muttering words you could barely make out. You heard words like love and forever as she continued to stutter her way through the speech you presumed would be the one sheâd propose to you with. Her nervous habit of bouncing her leg became more apparent when she messed up and had to start over again. As you continued to pretend to listen to Finnickâs story about baby Flynn loving the forest and pointing at every tree you placed your hand on Johannaâs leg to calm her.
They loved to think they were discreet but you knew it was a segway to move the party outside to wherever Johanna was going to propose. You knew because Finnick stared at Johanna and even cleared his throat to get her attention. You also knew because Flynn couldnât care less about the trees, the Odairs have been over enough times for you to know he liked the hanging deer toys more than anything.
You were at a cross between blurting out that you knew what was going to happen and seeing how long they would try to deceive you. Either way a little help wouldnât be that bad in the long run. âJohannaâs lived here all her life, I bet sheâll know a spot.â
âI can take you all there.â
Everyone agreed to tidy up the dining room and kitchen before going to the spot. Washing the dishes was therapeutic for you, granted it would only be two dishes with you and Johannaâs plate. Now with 8 plates, you made Finnick help as Johanna ran outside chasing Flynn who was chasing the geese.
âLook at our babies.â Finnick chuckled.
âI think my baby is cuter than your baby.â
âNo one is cuter than Flynn. Except for Annie.â
âExcept for Annie.â You said at the same time he did, matching his mannerisms. He looked down at you shocked before you snickered. âEveryone has their opinion Finn.â You finished soaping the last plate and washed your hands.
âIâm going to tell Annie that.â
âNo need. I can tell her myself.â You knocked on the window to get her attention outside and pulled the window open. âHey Annie. Finnick thinks youâre cuter than your child.â You saw the red in her face.
Johanna who had looked up from the knocking said. âI hope you try to kiss her through the window and fall out.â
âShe was so close.â Finnick told.
âTo what? She was never the romantic type.â
âYouâd be surprised.â
You shared a look with Annie and she narrowed her eyes suspiciously at Finnick. âHow would you know that?â She asked. Finnick stammered before quickly changing the subject. Thatâs when it clicked, Annie also didnât know about Johannaâs proposal. It made sense, she would have told you the second she walked in.
You might as well indulge your bestie. As the lot of you followed Johanna into the forest, you fell to the back and looped your arm around hers. âAnnie, how are you?â
âWonderful. Itâs been so long since weâve all had dinner together. I love it.â
You smiled. âI think youâre going to love it even more because Johanna is going to propose.â Your heart fluttered saying it out loud for the first time. It felt good.
Annie stopped and snapped her head towards you. âAre you certain?â
âWell yes Beetee actually called congratulating me on my engagement.â
âThe one you said was from Enobaria?â
âYeah.â
âSo he knew?â
âI think they all do hence the gathering, the walk in the forest, Katniss saying marriage instead of margarine.â
âAaaahhhhhh!!! Oh my god!â Annie jumped in her spot. Everyone turned their heads and you caught their questioning eyes.
âItâs fine. She just saw a giant bug.â
âI caught that too but didnât think you heard because you just passed her the butter! Can I be your maid of honor?â She whispered.
âUm, do fish swim?â
Annie squealed and you had to shush her before everyone turned around again. âIs it supposed to be a surprise?â
âOh yeah. Theyâre just bad at keeping a secret from me. I know them too well.â
The 8 of you continued your trek through the forest and slowly you remembered the forest around you from the times Johanna took you out here.
There was the small cabin with the broken window where Johanna disappeared to and proceeded to scare the living daylights out of you when you found her. It was scary at that time, but hilarious thinking back at it. âHey Jo! Remember when you scared me in that cabin?â You yelled getting her attention in the front.
âYou mean when I scared you so bad you fell over?â
âYeah and then you sprained your ankle and we spent the rest of the day crying and laughing on the floor. Getting sticks in our hair.
âGood times.â Johanna smirked and you giggled.
The sun sent golden rays through the canopy spotlighting small areas of the forest floor. You forgot how beautiful it was out here, with the wind whistling through your hair and the leaves dancing in the air the sun There was a wooden info plaque in front of a young tree dated to the day you first kissed Johanna.
You had stopped at the 7th floor in the Capitol to comfort her after her tributes died in the bloodbath. Not many words were spoken but you silently held her hand as she cried knowing the feeling of losing your mentees for the first time. The hand holding quickly became engulfing her in your arms. The kiss wasnât planned; your intention was to kiss her cheek as you left once she cried all her tears. Johanna had turned and your lips met for a brief second.
When you first found the tree after moving, you asked Johanna about it and thatâs when she told you that whatever you had started on that day. You had a bigger impact on her than you thought initially. The tree was 5 years old now and already towering over you. You stood in front appreciating the pine tree.
Johanna strolled back to you with her hands behind her back, admiring you admiring the tree. âEnjoying yourself there?â She asked.
âYou know, this was when I shouldâve ran. You planted a tree the day we first kissed. It wasnât even a real one.â
âIt was real to me. Itâs what got me addicted to your taste.â
âObsessed much?â
âYouâre the one that knitted a tapestry of me holding an axe.â
âFirst of all, itâs cross-stitching get it right, second of all, where did that go by the way? I feel like it disappeared.â
âI have no idea what youâre talking about but we can look for it after our walk.â
âWait.â You grabbed her wrist stopping her in her tracks. You found her jaw with your free hand and guided it to face you before kissing her. As you pulled away, Johanna tried to follow your lips. âNow thatâs a real kiss.â
âI didnât kiss you yet. It didnât count.â She moved her arms to wrap around your waist and you slung your arms around her shoulders to deepen the kiss. Her hands traveled down your body to grope your butt.
âLetâs focus on the task at hand please.â Haymitch reminded as he grumbled.
Johanna got in a squeeze and started running before you could scold her. You couldnât help but laugh at her childish manners. She and Finnick were the same. Theyâre children at heart but they have their moments of maturity.
Moments like this spot in the forest. You saw the glow in the forest and would have to admit that it got your heart fluttering. The last time you were out this far, Johanna convinced you to climb the towering trees and stay in the canopy. You were terrified of heights, hugging the tree like a koala, eventually prying your eyes open to appreciate the landscape. Johanna eased you out of your panic and carefully guided you down from it nearly two days later.
You were fine conversing with her throughout the day but the second you looked down, you tensed up and held the tree tighter. You werenât convinced to come down until Johanna spotted storm clouds rolling in. It was when she was still fearful of water and threatened to leave you there because she would be rendered useless in it.
It was that day that she allowed herself to heal from her trauma, striking a deal with you that sheâd help you with your fear of heights in exchange of being allowed to help her with hydrophobia. In the following months, you would both take steps to overcome come your fears. You could climb at least as tall as a house and be okay while Johanna was able to wash herself without cowering.
It was like a village in the sky, ladders and guard rails would keep you from falling and the fairy lights climbed up the wooden structure like vines. It was beautiful with all the gazebos with plenty of rooms.
âWow. This is definitely a spot.â You sighed in awe. Finnick and Annie beelined it towards the swing as Johanna approached you.
âYou wanna check out the gazebo?â
âIs it structurally sound? This was not here 3 months ago.â
âAre you doubting me?â Johanna feigns hurt.
âA little.â
âFinnick and I tested it. Weâll be okay.â
âOkay then.â You made your way to the ladder nailed to the tree and climbed up. Once the two of you made it to the platform, you caught Johannaâs smirk on her face.
âYouâve got a nice ass.â
âThanks. Youâve got a good looking butt too.â
âI sure do.â Johanna smirks and you laugh continuing to walk through the treehouse. It was beautiful up here seeing the glow seep through the other trees. The bird calls slowing down for the night and the gentle breeze rustled the leaves. You looked down at the other victors and waved to them. âDo you like it?â
âI love it Jo.â
You continued to the gazebo where the sunflowers were blooming. There were empty bookshelves, a rocking chair in the corner and cushions on the ground over the tapestry Johanna said she had no idea was. Your heart fluttered over the idea that you would spend more time here with Johanna.
In the corner of your eye, you saw Johanna pat all of her pockets and relaxed after sticking her hands into her jacket pocket. She kicked the dust on the wooden platform. This was the moment and your heart rate picked up. The district 7 girl was muttering her speech again, messing it up and starting over.
You watched her for a few tries feeling your face warm up at the thought that Johanna wanted this to be perfect.
âJo. Iâll marry you.â
âWhat?â
Your eyes traveled to her pocket then back up to her eyes. You crossed the small distance between the two of you and reached for her hands. âJohanna Mason. I know all this is because you want to propose.â
âHow- was it Swamp Potatoâs? Iâll kill her.â
âNo. No need for killing.â
âLet be honest I knew something was up when I woke up and you told me everyone was coming over. Iâm usually the one that comes up with the plans to hang out. My favorite meal, my favorite people, my favorite flower.
âPlus you were all running around like you had a secret. I was in on the plane to get Katniss and Peeta out of the arena remember. I know what you look like when you try to hide something. Itâs horribly obvious.
âAlso Haymitch almost said wedding gifts when showing me the geese. Are we keeping those by the way?â
âI donât see why not. If they misbehave weâll just eat them.â
You were around her long enough to not react to it. âKatniss saying marriage, I did notice that. And thereâs also the fact that Beetee called to congratulate us about our engagement.â
âWhen did he call?â
âWhen I said it was Enobaria. Then thereâs also you sitting next to me mumbling your speech to get it right. And let me just say, I would marry you with ring pop as long as forever means forever. You are insane and unhinged but deep down you have a heart. Iâm so glad that Iâm lucky to be the one who gets to see it, both literally and figuratively. Johanna Mason you are strong, smart, and a secret softie. You have no idea the light you bring into my life when you kept bothering me. I love you. Youâre my life, youâre the reason I love waking up everyday.â
âCan you still act surprised when I get down on one knee?â
âYes of course.â
Johanna hummed and pulled you into a kiss. âYou were the first victor to ever reach out to me and make sure I was okay. It left a big impact on me to the point where I craved you. And hearing your voice on the other side of the line made my house less lonely. I loved that you picked up the phone before it even finished the first ring because it made me think that you wanted to hear me too.â You nod in agreement and Johannaâs smile widened.
âI was angry, at everyone, I still think I am but you always have the ability to calm me with a simple touch or even your alluring voice. You know when to hold me back from a fight and you know when to let me have at them.
âI want to do things with you like climb trees, lay in your lap as you work on your knitting projects, spoil Annie and Finnickâs kid, hike in the forest, cuddle, argue at each other until I flash you or until I have to sleep on the couch. Iâve already been through hell and back with you whatâs a few more decades? Maybe even forever if You're up for it.â
You kissed her pulling her in for one. When she pulled away, she got down on one knee, and all her joints popped. She groaned as you laughed because your joints have been doing that since you met her. Her hooded eyes stopped you in your tracks. âI mean. Oh my god!â You acted covering your mouth in shock.
âY/n L/n, will you marry me?â
âYes! A thousand times- pffft.â You laughed at the cheesiness of it.
âFinish it. I have to be on my knees for this. The least you could do is finish it.â
âThatâs what she said.â
âFuck me.â
âShe said that too.â
Despite the glare Johanna gave you, you could tell she was holding back her laughter.
You cleared your throat, âYes! A thousand times yes.â
Johanna finally got up and popped her other joints groaning in the process. You laughed and hugged her as she placed the emerald ring on your finger. âNot a word.â
âShut up about your old lady joints and kiss me.â
âSay less.â Johanna hummed and kissed you passionately. âSHE SAID YES!!!â
You couldnât wait for the memories you would make with your fiancee and your future wife. âI love you.â
âSHE ALSO SAID SHE LOVES ME!â Johanna announced. You held her face in your hands. âAND I GET TO KISS HER!â She held you tight and you didnât mind if she never let go as long as you had her.
~~~~~
Everything was perfectly as planned. Johanna might have had a few bruises from the stunt she pulled at the parade but other than that, everyone fully believed she was weak. Even her district partner believed it, opting to sit with the other tributes. She credited her ability to cry on cue. Johanna was now sitting alone on the training center secretly observing her competition.
That was until a girl put her tray in front of her. When Johanna looked up she was met with the eyes of a career. God she hated them, thinking they owned the place. âHi. Iâm y/n from District 4.â Johanna knew who she was, this year among the careers, she was the top of the food chain. Your brother is the one and only Capitol Darling Finnick Odair.
Johanna stayed quiet hoping the girl in front of her would hurry up and tell her what she was doing here with her. The top of the food chain with the bottom. You didnât say anything eating her food in silence. It was annoying the district 7 tribute, so she mustered up her meekest voice. âW-why are you sitting with me?â
âMy brother won when I was 11 and he would take me out to sea to fish and train. It didnât go too well with my classmates. They said it was unfair that I got to go on all these âfield tripsâ. They were jealous and their jealousy quickly became hate.â What does that have to do with me? Johanna thought. âAnyway I know what itâs like to be an outcast. Itâs not fun, so seeing you alone, I didnât want that for you.â It was like you read her mind, answering her question as soon as she asked it in her head. For the rest of lunch you asked her about her life in District 7 and playing up to the weakling she was, didnât speak, only opting to shake or nod her head.
Still, you found out a lot. First talking about your brother and then turning the conversation to Johannaâs siblings. She didnât know what compelled her to tell the truth about them. Nodding when you counted to 4 and then again when you got the correct number of brothers, 3, which meant you knew she had a sister. Other things like her being the middle child, her age (17) and her favorite color (Green because of the forests) were discovered.
Johanna found out about your favorite color (blue for the ocean), your most prized possession was the conch shell you found at the beach, your relationship with Finnick, how he was protective and caring under all that bravado.
After lunch, Johanna fully expected you to rejoin the careers but you didnât. You went to the weapons station and picked up an axe, which was not in the category of your specialty weapons. âStabby stabsâ as you called it. She sat in the corner hugging her knees as everyone over looked her. For good measure, Johanna decided to cry again.
Through blurry vision, Johanna watched you with the instructor learning the basics. It was okay form and she couldnât say anything without giving herself away so she turned her attention to crying again. It was its own workout. She buried her face into her knees and practically cried herself to sleep.
Johanna was woken up by you gently shaking her shoulder. You were sitting on your knees at her level. In a calm, soothing and oddly charming voice, you persistently asked her to join you for training. No was not accepted as an answer so Johanna was dragged to the weapons section. You picked up an axe and Johanna dreaded not being able to swing it around like she could. Oh god Iâm going to have to pretend to be bad. She thought.
As soon as you instructed Johanna to hold it with 2 hands, she dropped it to the floor. âIâm sorry. I wasnât ready.â She forced the tears to well up.
âNo. Itâs okay.â You consoled her with patience and shook your head helping Johanna lift it. She let you adjust her grip and your eyes lingered on her hands for a few seconds. You simplified your explanations after that and Johanna assumed you were giving up on a hopeless tribute from District 7 who couldnât even hold their trade weapon but still being nice.
By the second day of training, it was clear you separated yourself from the career pack. Going to the survival sections and checking in on Johanna throughout the day retelling her about what you learned. Finnick got you in a habit of teaching him what he taught you saying the best way to truly know something was to teach to someone else.
The sibling-ship between you and Finnick was definitely stronger than her own relationship with her own siblings. You always had a story with him, like how you almost drowned him, how he let you drive the boat, or even the stupid dolphin sounds he made when a pod of dolphins swam next to the boat. You had your own whale speak that you demonstrated and gave Johanna second-hand embarrassment. She couldnât have possibly shrunk any smaller.
Johanna wouldnât lie, you were making her job a lot easier for her checking on her less and less throughout the day, quickly leaving when you couldnât stop her from crying. God she hasnât cried this much ever, her stomach was hurting to the point of nausea. To everyone else it looked like you were getting tired of her but she knew you better. You silently left a bottle with her name on the label of water filled with electrolytes so she could replenish the salt she lost while crying.
Johanna nearly had a heart attack when she saw your score after the individual assessment. An 11! Even after taking time to take care of her. Had you been prioritizing yourself, Johanna was sure you wouldâve gotten a 12. Anyway, you did miles better than she had, earning the lowest training score ever at 2. Though according to plan, she couldnât help but think about how youâd react to it. Were you disappointed?
During the interview with Caesar Flickerman, you addressed stepping away from the pack. âOh those rumors are true. I donât need them to win clearly with the score I got.â You flashed them a smirk that got everyone swooning over you. Johanna hated it, they didnât even know like she did. They didnât know that your favorite animal was a manatee. They didnât know that you scratched your ear lobe when you were deep in thought. They definitely didnât know that when you laughed, you place your hand over your heart. âAnd if that puts a target on my back, let them, Iâll kill them all.â
There was a flicker of darkness in your eyes and a venom in your voice that spread goosebumps over Johannaâs arms. The way you looked into the camera was like you were talking to her specifically. A horrible thought surfaced in her head. You were at the top of the tributes, you could easily feign kindness and kill her. It wasnât ridiculous, after all, she herself was acting. It never occurred to her that someone else could be acting because at the end of the game, there would only be one victor. When the games started she needed to get away from you.
Johanna focused on herself, trying to speak about her family but then burst into tears again. She spent the rest of her interview time crying. It was getting old, even Johanna herself was getting tired of it by now. Blight was there to retrieve her after it and handed her a water bottle. âItâs from the District 4 girl.â
âY/n.â She whispered, Johanna felt her heart tighten in her chest. Why am I feeling this way? She pushed it away, these were her cards and now all there was left to do was wait.
The arena was mountainous and rocky with patches of trees. When Johanna rose into it, she saw the cornucopia, and in the center, was a battle axe. You were six podiums to her left and when she found you, you were already looking at her. The moment the gong sounded, Johanna stumbled off her podium and ran toward the trees. She needed to get away from the bloodbath.
Just before reaching the tree line, Johanna dared to turn back. She saw you in the center dodging an attack from someone and grabbing a knife from the pile to slit their throats. You grabbed a harpoon, and a couple more knives before slinging a backpack over your shoulder. You made eye contact with her across the way before darting your eyes towards your left and her right.
When Johanna followed your gaze, she found the District 2 girl running towards her with a sword. Before she could even be close enough to start swinging the sword, a barbed dart flew into her head and her whole body jerked back to the ground as her head snapped. You gathered the rope around your arm and pulled the harpoon out of the dead Career. Johanna stood frozen, the center of the cornucopia and the edge of the tree line was at least 100ft and you just killed the career easily while she was moving.
âGo.â You said putting your hand on her shoulder and forcing her to run. âGO!â Johanna didnât need to be told twice, and ran through the trees. Dodging and weaving were second nature to Johanna especially either all the tree farms. You followed closely behind for a while until you found a small cave, skidding to a stop. âJohanna! Over here!â Johanna was panicking. She just ran so fast for so long people would clearly start being suspicious. The District 7 resorted to dry heaving. âOh. Oh man.â You said, you grabbed her arms and placed them behind her head. âOpen up your airway love.â
Johanna was fine, but something about the way you called her love made all of her pretending go away. âIâm okay y/n. Iâm fine.â Well almost. Her voice still had the softness to it. For the night, you tried to fit Johanna and yourself in the cave but she were hesitant.
You had unpacked your bag before asking Johanna a question, âJo. Come on whatâs wrong?â
âWhat if you try to kill me?â
You gave her a glare under the flashlight. âHoney, if I wanted you dead, I wouldâve done it by now.â That shut Johanna up real quick and apparently the entire cave too. She did not expect to be scolded. âWhy did you look back? God you were such an idiot. You couldâve gotten yourself killed.â
âI donât know.â She did know. Johanna needed to know you were okay but she wasnât going to tell you that. âWhy did you save me?â
âI do not want or need your obituary to say death by standing in the middle of a cornucopia bloodbath.â
Johanna wasnât sure what your plan was. Didnât you know that there could only be one victor? What were you going to do when there was only the two of them left? It seems to Johanna that you werenât going to think about it until then.
She didnât mind it, sitting all day in a cave might be boring but if she isnât doing anything, Johannaâs conserving energy. You and Johanna shared more about your homes, you more than her since now everything was on camera. At night you sat quietly holding Johanna in the sleeping bag you shared, she was sniffling and you decided to glide your nails over her forearm.
On the second day, after a bit of hiking you found a large river and immediately jumped in after stripping. âCome in the water!â You laughed cupping a handful of water and drinking it.
âI donât know how to swim.â Johanna replied meekly.
Your shoulders visibly dropped before making your way back to the shore. Suddenly you stopped eyeing something down stream. You squinted your eyes and Johanna watched you sink your head underwater only to surface 20ft away fighting a red splashing fish the size of your torso. You laughed as its tail whacked you in the stomach. With incredible strength you hoisted it between your arms and slid your fingers into the second gill and pulled. The fish stopped moving and you held it over your shoulders as you finally made it back to shore.
âDinner! And breakfast and lunch and dinner again. For the two of us, I could probably last a few days. I hope youâre not allergic to fish Anna.â A small ding sounded and Johanna found a parachute floating right towards you as you were now gutting the fish. You paused for a second opening it to a full ice chest. âThankâs Finn!â After cutting the fish into pieces, you and Johanna continued hiking finding another cave.
For the next couple of days, you and Johanna stayed in the cave only going out to get water. Johanna played her weakling part, clinging to your arm to not go. The compromise you came to was that Johanna would sit at the entrance with a knife and watch your back as you went to grab water.
On day 5, you told Johanna that since they were nearing the top 8 tributes, they would be interviewing family soon. She hoped her family knew what her plan was and made something up. You ran out of food this morning and told Johanna to not worry about you when you went out. It was only a few minutes you were out of site that a cannon sounded.
Johanna immediately ran out of the cave. âJohanna? Johanna!â She heard you call.
âY/n!â She called back. You ran up the ridge to her. âI thought you-â
You pulled her into a hug shushing her. âItâs okay Jo. Iâm here.â You stroked her hair trying to calm her. She spent the rest of the walk to the river clinging to your arm. The two of you made your way back to where you left your harpoon only to literally see all the water drained into the floor.
âWhat are they doing?â
âThe Gamemakers are draining the river, probably to set up something to bring tributes together.â
âWe donât have to go right?â
âWe need the water.â
âHow long can we survive without water?â
â3 days.â
âCan we make it 3 days.â
âYes but whoâs to say the Gamemakers wonât wait 3 days to bring everyone together? When weâre desperate water.â
Johanna hated the Capitol. She hated being at their mercy. And she hated her plan right about now. The clueless weak girl that could do nothing could probably tap a tree for sugar and water by now if she had just showed who she was from the beginning and gotten that axe. But had she done that, she wouldnât have you.
You and Johanna toughed it out waiting the rest of the day and the next before an announcement sounded. Attention Tributes tomorrow morning at the Cornucopia you are invited to attend. Each of you desperately needs something. That will be the only announcement. May the odds be ever in your favor.â
There hadnât been a cannon since the scare cannon a few days ago. With the fallen tributes tribute that night, you figured out that besides you and Johanna, there were the rest of the careers, a boy from 9 and a girl from 11. You were stressed, Johanna could tell, you were fiddling with a rope you brought in as your token running your fingers through the grooves.
Hiking back to the Cornucopia at night was pretty easy since you and Johanna spent most of your time in cave. Johanna navigated through the trees easily, being from 7 and working in the tree farms, she had to know the way home or sheâd become the forest witchâs food, or she was told. The two of you made it to the cornucopia in the middle of the night just after they played the anthem where no fallen tributes appeared.
In the night, neither you or Johanna could get some sleep knowing there were tributes around. You sat back to back and eventually you used Johannaâs shoulder as a head rest and she felt your soft breathing on her neck. Your right hand reached for her left behind you and you ran your thumb over the back of her skin. Johanna turned her head to look at you only finding that you were already looking at her with a sparkle in your eyes. She mightâve imagined it but your eyes were focused on her lips. Johanna felt a weird feeling in her stomach. Part of her wanted you lean in. That thought scared her so she laid on your shoulder. Johnna felt her face go red as she stared ahead to watch you 6.
In the morning, you gave Johanna a knife and told her to walk in front of you. The plan was to get what you needed and get the hell out of there. You stood with you back facing her as being the first people here meant you were the first targets, but sheâs seen you throw. It felt like forever waiting for the feast but then Johanna heard a humming and saw the packs. Before it could even finish rising, Johanna grabbed the District 7 pack and District 4 pack trying to run away.
You held an arm out to stop her. Across the way were the four remaining careers. Johanna almost questioned why you didnât throw your harpoon but then that would be taking your only weapon away. The careers charged towards them raising their weapons. You gripped Johannaâs shoulders as you strapped the backpacks onto her. âRun! You hear me? Run and donât look back!â
She took off through the cornucopia but stopped when she heard a cannon. You were her ally and friend, she wasnât going to leave, not after everything you have done for her. In the cornucopia, the battle axe from the first day was no longer there. There were smaller chopping axes and splitting axes thatâll have to do. Johanna picked them up hearing metal clash against metal outside.
She heard groaning that wasnât yours and another strike that caused another man to scream. Then the dread filled her ears, she heard you gasp in pain fall to the ground with a thud. Johanna gritted her teeth when she heard the careers taunting you.
âNow that youâre as good as dead, your little cry baby is nex-â
Johanna put an axe in his face before he could even finish his sentence and before the other two careers managed to make sense of what was going on, the District 7 tribute had swung in their direction. The second one was barely lifted his bloody sword before Johanna literally chopped his head off.
Johanna saw red, hacking and swinging at everyone around her. The boy from 4 put up a fight but was so badly injured by you that he didnât stand a chance against her. Back at the feast table, someone else had grabbed a backpack trying to run from the danger but Johanna threw the knife you gave her into the personâs calf. In one swift motion, she removed the axe from the careerâs face and split this tributeâs head down the middle.
Blood sprayed on her face. When she looked up, the girl had wide eyes and tripped on the floor falling face first into the gravel. Johanna ran straight to her and swung at her shoulder. She was down but Johanna kept swinging until her body was nothing but a messed up pile of flesh and blood.
Looking around with a strong grip on the axe, she couldnât see anyone else so Johanna quickly ran towards you. As she approached you, she heard a quiet voice congratulating her but ignored it. You were on the ground in your own pool of blood. The red liquid was flowing out of your torso and your eyes and her heart clenched. âCome on we have to go!â
âJohanna? Youâre alive? Youâre okay?â You choked out.
âYeah Iâm fine. Theyre dead. We need to go before the others come.â Johanna slings her arm over to carry her but you groaned at the slightest movement.
âJo. Johanna! Stop! Thereâs no one left Jo. 22 cannons. Weâre the last two.â Johanna was shocked she thought she was keeping track too but she mustâve lost count somewhere. Johanna realized the gravity of your situation. he should have told you she could fight. She couldâve grabbed an axe faster to help you. She mightâve blown her cover but you would still be okay. And you were, Johanna brought her hands to your stomach and pressed into it.
âHey tell my brother I love him okay?â Her heart beat soared and she felt it in her throat when you said that. You were dying. She let out a choked sob.
âNo. No! No you are not dying on me. Youâre going to win this and tell him yourself.â She yelled.
âLove, judging by how strong your voice is, only one of us is on our death bed.â
No! Shut up! Stay with me. Stay with me please. Do you hear me? I canât lose you Y/n!â
âYou donât have a choice Jo.â
She did have a choice. She chose to present herself as weak and now you were dying because she let you do all the work. You couldâve been a power duo, at least you wouldnât have had to 1v4 the rest of the careers. Even though the careers had stabbed you, it was Johannaâs fault and for the first time since her reaping, she cried real tears.
âIâm sorry. Iâm so sorry.â
You shook your head and struggled to open your eyes to meet Johannaâs. âDonât be. You have nothing to apologize for.â
âI lied to you. I- I killed them all. It was all an act, the crying, the fainting, the training score. It wasnât supposed to be like this.â If she didnât have tears streaming out of her eyes she would have seen the smug smile on your face.
You reached up to cup her cheek swiping the blood from it. You shushed her caressing her face. âYou give them hell Johanna.â Johanna let out a whimper leaning into your hand as she pressed into you harder to stop the bleeding.
Something weird filled her vision, waves breaking over the rocks, Finnickâs smile, swimming with the dolphins, a field of wild flowers. The conch shell you liked to listen to after catching it.
Boom.
Johanna burst into tears and buried her face into your neck crying, leaving a trail of snot on your shoulder. She wiped the snot with the back of her hand not caring that she just smeared your blood on her face. Ladies and Gentleman the victor of the 71st Hunger Games Johanna Mason.
You were gone, just like that. You didnât deserve it, you were a good person. She came in here with a plan and she never expected to fall in love let alone have an ally. She hated the Capitol and she is going to give them hell. They will regret taking you from her.
~
Outside of the helpless girl act, Johanna proved to be a formidable district girl. She was known as strong, cunning, angry and after refusing to prostitution, extra angry.
Johanna was standing on an empty balcony swirling a drink around with a scowl on her face. There was no need to be cordial with everyone. She openly hated them and everyone praised her for her strategy even fooling a career. You werenât just a career to her, you were an ally, a friend, her love. She cried all her tears for you, vowing never to cry again.
She heard the door click open and was about to rip into this person until she turned and came face to face with the familiar sea green eyes and tanned skin. Johanna didnât know how much attention she gave to you and your features until now. âFinnick.â
âJohanna.â He said. The newest victor immediately back tracked on her vow. Tears welled in her eyes but she didnât let them fall. Here she was categorizing her feelings to love when it did not compare to Finnickâs pain. He practically raised you and it showed on his face, the half smiles and the bags under his eyes, his disheveled hair, though all the capitol elites found it hot.
He leaned against the same railing facing the opposite way to Johanna. He didnât offer to talk, sitting in the silence was an Odair thing apparently, not that Johanna knew what to say anyway.
She settled for, âI keep thinking about what would have happened if I picked up the axe sooner. I might not have had an ally in her but sheâd probably be alive. Some ally I was.â
Finnick had turned his body to her. âI thought Y/n was crazy for wanting to be your ally after the first day of training.â Johanna looked at him puzzled, thinking back to what she possibly could have done to get you to want her. She cried, you sat with her for lunch and you taught her how to use an axe. Well as much as you can teach someone who already knew how. âBut I guess she saw something in you.â
âWhen she taught you how to tie a knot or any other skills, did you pretend to be bad?â
âYeah. Why?â
It was the axe, Johanna remembered now, when you looked at her hands and then gave her less explanations on how to wield one. Of course, you taught Finnick skills he already knew so you could commit it to memory and actually learn it instead of forgetting it. âI did the same thing when she tried to teach me how to use an axe. She knew! She knew all this time and didnât say anything about it. God! I shouldâve done something to help her sooner.â
âYou canât change the past.â
âI fucking know that.â She was indebted to you. For keeping her secret, for trusting her, for protecting her. Always. âI just wish I could tell her how much she means to me.â
âThere are so many things left unsaid. But wherever my sister is, I think sheâll know.â

I just remember that District 7 is in Washington and if I thought it you all do to: đľHoa-hoa-hoa-hoa-hoađľ
Cabin in the Woods
~~~~~
Summary: After the rebellion you decide to move to District 7 to be with Johanna and help her through her hydrophobia.
wc: 1.7k
warnings: y/n/n = your nickname, mdni, mentions of hydrophobia, swearing, brief nudity, blood. a/n: getting tired of searching tumblr for Johanna Mason fics and not finding any new ones so I wrote one myself.
~~~~~
The train pulled into the station and when the doors open, youâre greeted by the fresh smell of pine and the thick misty clouds. It had been a months since Katniss shot Coin and the victorâs were whisked away back to their district. You were from District 10, and used to live and breathe on the farm where you raised the cattle and horses. After months without a caretaker, some of them hopped the fence but most of them died.
There wasnât much to rebuild in District 10 so you decided a change of scenery would be nice. More than anything, you wanted to see Johanna in District 7. You wanted to see how she was doing considering she refused any more help from the doctors. So here you were standing at the District 7 platform with a small pack of clothes on your back.
Finnick gave you her address and directions to her house since heâd been there for the victory tour as the mentor for the 72nd Hunger Games. When you had won during the 66th year, Johanna hadnât had a house yet in Victorâs Village.
Making your way through the town was easy, most people far and wide had gone to The Capitol to see Snowâs execution, they were all still trickling back. The almost ghost town didnât bother you, but a ghost house did. At first you werenât sure if you had the right house but then you saw the horse figurine half carved from its stake and the many other figurines. As far as you knew none of the other victors had their talent as woodcarvings.
This was definitely Johannaâs house but it was as barren as when you had came home to your house. Musty and a layer of dust caking everything. Unsure of where she could have gone, you went back to the town where a few people were moving the logs around to help with the rebuilding. Someone must know where she went so you asked around. âHey have you seen Johanna Mason? Sheâs a few inches taller than me, with brown spikey hair and brown eyes. She also permanently glares at everything.â
âOh yeah the victor, she comes into town twice a week for food supplies.â
âSheâs not at her house?â
âNo sheâs out west past the tree farms doing god knows what.â
âOkay thank you.â
All you had to go off of was Johanna was past the tree farms. The farms looked bad, the ground was uneven, the trees were uprooted and some of them had a chunk of the trunk blasted out, District 7 mustâve rebelled here, mirroring District 10 and the main work places.
At the end of the grid of trees, there was a trail between the bushes, at the start you found tracks that led further into the forest. It took another 30 minutes before you heard wooden logs tapping against each other.
Johanna was 10 feet in the air hanging with her legs wrapped around the tree and using the back end of her axe to hammer in the final frame log for her⌠whatever sheâs building.
âSo this is where Johanna goes after the war.â You say grabbing her attention.
âYou know damn well why, I fucking hate that mansion.â she said swinging down to the roof of the cabin she built below the platform. âHow did you find me?â
âOh you know, I asked for directions and the guy sent me this way to follow angry gremlin tracks.â
Johanna rolled her eyes. âI have an axe in my hand right now.â
âYouâre not a threat to me Mason. I can spit on you and youâd go into shock.â
âShut the fuck up.â She scoffed. It was mean yes, using her fears against her but Johanna needs the reality check and from experience, she takes you more seriously when you donât coddle her.
âNo. You canât sweep it under the rug Johanna. Not this time, I wonât let you. It starts just like this, not showering, avoiding the rain. Soon itâll turn to you not staying hydrated and Iâm not letting you die.â
âSo what? Youâre going to stay here until I get better?â
âIf thatâs what it takes.â You felt it first, the cold drop of water on your hand. âLetâs go inside, you can give me a tour.â You offer your hand towards Johanna and she pushes it out of the way as she walks around the cabin to the front door. You see the hair on her neck stand followed by heavy breathing. Without a second thought, she sprinted towards the door tripping on the steps of her porch and ramming into the door.
You winced watching her in pain so you moved to help her. As soon as you touched her shoulder she knocked it away again. âIâm fine!â She shouted. You could hear the pitter patter as the rain hit the leaves above you. You felt more drops on your head and looked up to feel them on your face. You loved the rain and if Johanna wasnât going to accept your help, youâd at least enjoy it.
You reached your arm towards the sky smiling at the cool misty air. You hopped from the porch and ran circles around the tree spinning through the forest like a fairy. In the floor, you collected the pine needles and threw them into the air with a giggle, but you quickly turned your head to Johanna who sat with her back towards the door and her knees pressed to her chest.
The rain wasnât getting to her because of the overhang but you saw the glistening under her eyes. Blood ran down her nose as well and watching her was like that 17 year old girl who cried through her reaping and her interview. Only this time it was real. You quickly stopped your dance and walked over to her, ignoring the squelching in your shoes. You crouched down out of arms reach from her. You wanted to hold her but you knew it would send her into a deeper madness because of your wet clothes.
âAre you okay?â
âItâs not fair! Itâs not fair that you get to go out and dance in the rain and I canât.â She whined. âDistrict 7 is a rain forest, it rains majority of the days here and I canât even step off my porch.â
âYouâre right itâs not fair, but like I said, Iâll be here and Iâll help you every step of the way. One day weâll be able to dance together in the rain.â
âItâs stupid. I know youâre fine but I-â
You waited for her to continue but her voice died out. âItâs not stupid Johanna. Itâs completely understandable.â You reached your hand out to catch the rain and held it out towards Johanna. âBaby steps. If you wanna poke the water, go ahead. If not Iâll just sit here.â
This was a tactic to get the horses to trust you with a brush, holding the item in your hand and letting them feel the bristles of the brush for themselves before you grooming their hair. Johanna crawled to sit next to you. You heard her sniffling and saw her fingers shake when she brought it up. You never moved letting her dip her finger in the pool of your palms. âI can do this. It canât hurt me.â She said to herself before plunging her finger in the water.
Johanna looked up at you like a child looking for approval and you returned a beaming smile. Your cheekbones rose high to turn your eyes into crescent moons. In all honesty you were proud she at least retained some things the doctor in District 13 taught her, like positive self motivation.
It seemed to click for Johanna that she actually touched water from the first time since The Block. âItâs a start. Iâm proud of you.â You said.
Johanna let out a sigh she didnât know she was holding as she looked into your eyes. If you werenât here, sheâd have hid under her bed until who knows when, but in your presence, it was like a protection. Through everything you had gone through, you were still the same caring and patient y/n she knew.
âIâm going to change before I start catching a cold.â You stood up stripping off your jacket. The cold water seeping down your back and you left it next to the door.
âIf I see any water inside Iâm strangling you.â
You shook your head as you stripped off the rest of your clothes turning to an all too smug Johanna. âHappy?â
âVery.â She said checking you up and down. âItâs like your horses and the apples you give them when they do a good job. I touch water and you get naked as a reward.
You laugh at her comparison. You couldnât even be mad at her, after all, you did treat her like a horse a couple minutes ago. If this was going to help her then you wouldnât mind.
âOkay. I can do that only in private though. I am not getting naked at the market, when you run your hand through the produce sprinklers.â
âThatâs better for me then. I get you to myself.â She opened the door and let you go in. As you stepped into her cabin in the woods, you felt a hand squeeze the skin on your butt and snapped your head towards her, her name on the tip of your tongue. Johanna threw her head back laughing at your reaction before walking past you and bumping her hip with yours. "Make yourself some tea, I've got tea bags and pine needles. Collect your own water though. I'll get you some towels and clothes to dry off."
What a day, from being on a train to getting naked in the middle of the forest. No matter what though, you were glad that the day was ending in the presence of Johanna Mason. After putting on her clothes, because you stupidly left your pack in the rain, the two of you cuddled under a blanket and enjoyed the warmth of the crackling fire.

If You Are The Last Man Standing
<Prev || Part 24 || Next>
~Years Later~
You: *wears a rosewood and silver wedding ring and works the wood shop connected to the Quileute community center*
Sam: *spots of grey hair, leads a tourist group* this is (Y/n), she is also a wildlife conservationist, our youngest tribal leader and sheâs good with a wood saw.
You: *head nod towards Sam*
Sam: *leads the group away*
Leah: *walks in from office* I wouldâve never thought Sam would lead tourist
You and Leah: *snickers*
You: itâs a good look on him, probably gives him a break from his sons
Leah: if anyone needs the break itâs Paul
You: I do not know how Rachel popped out three kids at the same time. At least Jared and Kim have one.
Leah: theyâre trying again
You: I hope itâs a girl⌠the pack seems so much better without the Cullenâs here
Leah: everyoneâs fine. Seth and the others work with Rosalie and Embry says all is well at the Makah tribe. Though Quil and Claire had a huge fight recently.
You: Yeah, he stayed at mine and Rosalieâs place last night. the girl is running him into the ground.
Leah: how is Rosalie?
You: she keeps herself busy. Running her auto-shop and being a nighttime nanny. The Cullens do a collective video call a week, itâs fun seeing those guys try to figure out how technology works. It must be weird for Bella and Edward having an ex lover pine for their daughter
Leah: yeah, but not our problem. Some higher powerâs punishment for him, you know Jacobâs always going to love Bella even if he did imprint on Rensesmee.
You: *growls* donât remind me. I canât believe my idiot of a brother was about to hurt my wife!
Leah: okay *takes carving knife out of your hand*
You and Leah: *sits in silence*
You: who wouldâve known we would be the last man standing
Leah: yeah about that⌠I. Well with your permission-
You: *sighs* you donât need my permission to stop phasing Leah, Iâm surprised you stayed this long
Leah: weâll it was mainly for selfish reasons⌠We are suppose to be old crone buddies⌠and I know about your worries of seeing the pack, your family, grow older
You: *puts down your wolf carving and hugs her* you donât have to worry about me. You deserve a life of your own and you know Iâll always be here. Plus this would be a good reason to pull the pack together!
~~~~~
You and Leah: *running Leahâs final patrol together and reaches the path towards Sam and Emilyâs house*
The Pack: *stands in their ceremonial shifter capes*
Sue: *holds a ceremonial shifter cape for Leah*
Sam: *holds ceremonial beads*
Leah: âThank you (Y/n)â
You: *nods*
Leah: *shifts back to human facing away from the boys*
Sue: *drapes the cape over her, in Quileute language* the ancestors, the elders, the pack and the spirits above thank you for your service in protecting the tribe
Sam: *puts beads on Leah, in Quileute language* These beads restore your cultural ties and spiritual beliefs, may the great wolf spirit forever guide and protect you.
The Pack: *wolf pack call chirps*
You: *howls and runs the patrol path to the end*
Rosalie: *walks up to you and brushes your fur with her fingers* this one is different isnât it
You: *shifts back into her arms and cries*
~~~~~
You and Rosalie: *makes it back to Sam and Emilyâs
Leah: *hands you an envelope and winks* youâve done a lot for the tribe
You and Rosalie: *confused*
Paul: and for the pack
Embry: we wanted to make sure you could have anything you could have possibly wanted
Sam: Leah and Carlisle have been in contact
Jared: we were all in agreement
Quil: itâs a thank you gift
Seth: for you and Rosalie
You: *opens it, reads the letter from Carlisle and tears up*
Rosalie: *reads it from behind your shoulder and gasps* this will work?
Leah: youâd have to stop shifting for a bit. And your kid would hold the shifter gene. Theyâll stop aging like Rensemee, they wonât be venomous and will have a human diet
Rosalie: *throws her arms around Leah* thank you! Thank you!
Paul: if thereâs anyone to deserve this itâs you two. Plus we will spoil them to be like us so you wonât miss us too much
~~~~~
You: Alice, we donât need a gender reveal!
Alice: I canât hear you
You: Carlisle tell her we donât need a gender reveal. Rosalie is a woman, Iâm a woman. We only have X chromosomes! I donât care that we have 24 pairs of chromosomes that doesnât mean we carry the Y chromosome!
Rosalie: doll you need to calm down.
You: I will calm down when Alice is reined in. *whines* why arenât you stopping her
Rosalie: sometimes you just let it happen.
Edward: *across the room* Rosalie thinks itâs cute seeing you waddle around after Alice
You: I do not waddle
Leah: you kind of do.
You: *glares*
Sue and Charlie: *enters*
Sue: *hugs you* congratulations
Alice: *skips over to you and hands you a photo*
You: *gasps*
Rosalie: *snaps at Alice* where did you get this!
You: Babe! Youâre so cute as a baby!
Alice: I have my ways! I have more of these if you let me do a gender reveal
You: *cooes*
Rosalie: No, we donât need a gender reveal *pulls you away*
You: but thereâs more! You got to see my baby photos!
The Cullens and The Pack: *playing baby shower games*
Rosalie: *looks around for you and walks away from the group* doll?
You: *looks at the Guess who baby board, smiles and caresses your baby belly*
Rosalie: your smile says youâre happy but your eyes tell a different story *hugs you*
You: I love you, and I love the family we are building but
Rosalie: but we will always be like this, frozen.
You: yeah⌠how did you do it? Live knowing youâre the last to remember your family, your home?
Rosalie: spite⌠I also have my sister with me
You: *chuckles* sounds like you
Rosalie: someone doesnât truly die until they are forgotten
You: it feels heavy
Rosalie: *lifts your belly*
You: I was speaking metaphorically but this helps too
Rosalie: *hums* yes but you wonât be carrying those memories on your own*
Billy has been transcribing everything going on with the pack since you guys shifted. Iâve kept a diary since I was old enough to write.
You: and Iâm just knowing about it now? Baby weâve been married 10 years, together for 11⌠Anything I should know about? Perhaps about a certain female shifter?
Rosalie: hush you. *slowly lets go of your belly*
You: *groans*
Rosalie: Iâll help you remember them. I promise. *leaves multiple kisses on your face*
Quinn: I found them!
If You Popped The Question
<Prev || Part 23 || Next>
â ď¸ slight smut â ď¸
Leah: Um hello this is my room. Yours is down the hall
You: *sprawled out on Leahâs bed* I think better in here *twirls the ring box in your hands* I was going to ask Rose to marry me
Leah: *sits at the foot of the bed* was? Whatâs the problem? Last I checked you and your dad are working things out. My mom loves her and so does the pack.
You: *drops a hand to you stomach* Bella is pregnant
Leah: ⌠what does that have to do with anything. How is that even possible
You: I donât know. Rosalie is guarding her with her life. Iâm afraid whatâs in Bella wonât be able to control itâs thirst⌠If I do nothing itâll make Rose happy but endanger the town and the tribe⌠If I do something I protect the tribe and risk Rose hating me. I could leave with the Cullens but I have a duty to the pack. I could ask her to stay with me but have the Cullen's leave for safety but I'd be selfish.
Leah: thatâs tough. at least Jacob isn't here or a war would've started already
You: and that's what I'm trying to avoid
Leah: girl you need to let others carry the weight for you and you know who should help carry it?
You: Sam? The pack?
Leah: no they'll probably cause a war too. how about that amazing and soon to be fiancĂŠ of yours. She'll have answers you may not like but most of the problems you brought up involved her
You: what would you do in this situation
Leah: uh... I don't think you'll like my answer. Rosalie has proven that she loves you, she-
You: but what if I can't give her everything she wants?
Leah:...
You: what if our love isn't enough
Leah: *frowns* you're gonna base you future with the girl of your dreams on an account of what if. You're just gonna have to lay it all out for her.
You don't have to agree with her on everything just understand her.
You'll come up with something
You: can't I just lay here for a while
Leah: yes but if youâre not speaking with her by the end of the day Iâm dragging your ass over there
You: ⌠okay
Leah: *holds out her hand* can I see the ring*
You: *hands her the ring box*
Leah: you got her two rings!
You: the .75 karat, nature inspired old mine cut was my mom's. The rosewood with silver inlay I made.
Leah: What! You made it! She'd be insane to not accept! *pushes you off the bed* you gotta go now! *pushes you out the door* Go!
You: *heads to the Cullens*
Esme: it's good to see you again
You: *hugs Esme*
Esme: I figured you were coming sooner or later. There's some pasta in the fridge.
You: thank you *goes to the kitchen and warms up the pasta Hi Carlisle, how are you
Carlisle: tense everyone is tense
You: *hesitates*
Carlisle: Rose hasn't fed in a while.
Maybe spending time with you can help... what are you thinking about
You: *pulls out the ring box*
Carlisle: *smiles*
You: Would you
Carlisle: yes you have my permission
*smiles,plants his pointer finger over his lips and motions you towards his clan*
You: *walks into the room* hey *walks towards Rosalie and rubs her arms*
Bella: Jacob?
You: probably cooling off somewhere in Canada. Honestly, better off there than here, itâll cause so much more tension hereâŚ
Quinn: *smirks* Rose why donât you and (Y/n) take a stroll to the waterfall
Rosalie: *squeezes your hand tighter*
You: *soft* lets get you fed, go on a date. Iâm sure Esme and Quinn wonât let anything happen to Bella and the baby.
Rosalie: *nods*
You: *tugs her outside*
~~~~~
Rosalie: *drains a deer and detaches herself*
You: I know I should be disgusted but this is hot *wipes the corners of Rosalieâs lip with your thumb*
Rosalie: *smirks, sucks the drops of blood off your finger, and backs you against a tree*
You: not what I had in mind for a date but it works
Rosalie: shut up and kiss me
You: *moves a strand of hair behind Rosalieâs ear* you have me pinned down
You and Rosalie: *makes out and hands roam*
Rosalie: *lifts your shirt* is this okay?
You: *whispers* more than okay *takes your shirt off and kisses Rosalieâs jaw*
Rosalie: *moans, accidentally pops and rips open your jeans* sorry
You: *chuckles* Iâm sure I have some clothes laying around in the area *pushes Rosalie back*
Rosalie: *trips over the dead deer*
You and Rosalie: *falls and laughs*
You: we are not getting intimate next to a deer you killed
Rosalie: do you trust me?
You: with my life
Rosalie: *Carries you and jumps up at the highest branch of the tree*
You: holy fuck
Rosalie: *teases* scared of heights? *straddles your lap, and takes off her shirt*
You: No. Us wolves cliff dive recreationally. Itâs just that⌠*smiles*
Rosalie: what? *hands roam down your front*
You: *whispers* weâre kissing in a tree
Rosalie: *chuckles and smirks* weâre about to do more than kiss
~~~~~
You and Rosalie: *naked under a waterfall and in each otherâs arms*
Rosalie: the baby is not going to be a threat.
You: you canât say for sure
Rosalie: Carlisle is a man of science. With Esme, Quinn and I wanting children he did many experiments. It would be impossible for us to ever get pregnant⌠it would be possible for men, unfortunately. we just never thought anyone would consider it.
You: *kisses her temple* I guess both of us have that in common.
Rosalie: *frowns*
You: a little after my transformation I found that phasing has stopped my menstral cycle.
Rosalie: if you stop phasing?
You: itâs a possibility but Iâve accepted that I would shift forever to be with you, and I wouldnât want to carry anyoneâs baby except yours.
Rosalie: *wraps her arms around your neck* weâre doing things a little out of order donât you think? I saw you naked before our first conversation. Sex before an official date. Babies before marriage.
You: not a second goes by when I donât think about marrying you.
Rosalie: are you proposing
You: call it the imprint bond, or a mate bond. But regardless, just one look into your eyes and I knew I was gonna spend my life with you.
Rosalie: *smiles and hides her face in your neck*
You: *gasps* is this blushing!
Rosalie: *lightly slaps your shoulder* most proposals require a ring
You: *hums, swims over to the shredded clothes pile and digs through your jeans for the ring box* right about that.
Rosalie: *jaw drops*
You: *swims back to her and opens the box* Rosalie Lillian Hale will you do me the honor of marrying me.
Rosalie: yes *chuckles* of course I will! *kisses you* you got me two rings
You: the diamond ring was my moms the other I made. *puts the rings on Rosalieâs finger*
Rosalie: *jaw drops* how did you⌠how do you know my ring size to make a ring!
You: Quinn. I didnât know if my momâs ring would fit so I had Quinn swear to secrecy that Iâd make you one. She gave me the talk while we were looking for materials. She also helped me resize my momâs rin-
Rosalie: *kisses you*
If You Sentenced a Banishment
<Prev || Part 22 || Next>
Seth: hey man! Nice to see you! Iâm happy for you! *handshakes Edward*
Edward: thank you.
You: congratulations Edward, Bella.
Billy: I hope youâll be happy Bella
Bella: thank you Billy⌠*looks at you and Seth* have you heard from him
Billy: Iâm sure Jake wishes you the best.
Charlie: well I plan on getting druck
You, Seth and Sue: *chuckles*
Charlie: theyâre serving up some fancy champagne. Sue, can I get you a glass?
Sue: *blushes*
You: *raises your eyebrows*
Billy: sparkling fire water *rams into Charlie*
You: *lights up seeing Rosalie* you look beautiful
Rosalie: Doll meet the Denalis our cousins. Kate, Tanya this is (Y/n) my mate
You: *shakes Tanyaâs and Kateâs hands* itâs nice to meet you
Kate: *shocks you*
You: *your grip on Rosalie and Kate tighten and your knees buckle*
Tanya: Kate!
Kate: sheâs strong. *looks at Rosalie* must be nice not having to hold back in bed
Rosalie: Iâm sure youâll just love the details *drags you towards Sue, Charlie, Billy and Seth as Irina walks by*
Billy: *hands you a glass* (Y/n)
You: âŚdad
Billy: can I talk to you *wheels away*
You: *looks at Rosalie and follows*
Billy: Iâve been awful towards you. After your mother passed it was hard. Your sisters left and you reminded me the most of your mother so I kept away. But that isnât an excuse and Iâm sorry. I focused all my attention on Jake and it has pushed us further apart. Iâve seen how you led the Pack and protected the tribe and I am proud of you. I wish to make amends and I understand if you donât wish to do that.
You: âŚitâs gonna take some time but all I ever wanted was your love. *leans down and hugs Billy*
Billy: *holds out a ring box*
You: dad? *opens it* Momâs ring?
Billy: she wouldâve wanted you to have it.
You: *smiles and hides the box in your suit pocket*
You and Billy: *goes back*
Rosalie and Sue: *holds each others arms and smiling*
You: *back hugs Rosalie*
Rosalie: *whispers* everything okay?
You: *nods* what are you guys talking about?
Rosalie: *smiles* you *lets go of Sueâs arms to hold yours*
You: *hands off champagne to Seth*
Seth: *tries it, squirms and puts the glass back in your hand*
Rosalie: *twirls out of your arms* Doll. My lady, may I have this dance *holds out her hand*
You: *chugs the champagne* of course you may.
Sue: Remember, dear, I might not have fangs or super strength, but I'm still a mother *winks to Rosalie*
You and Rosalie: *sways together*
Rosalie: *listens to your heart*
Jacob: *his scent wafts into the area*
You: Jacobâs here
You and Rosalie: *trains your ear to Jacob and continues swaying*
Bella: itâs gonna be as real as anyone elseâs
Jacob: you canât be serious? While youâre still human?! You canât be that stupid
You: *stiffens*
Rosalie: *looks at you* Iâll distract everyone *kisses your cheek and goes to Sue, Charlie and Billy*
You: *makes eye contact with Seth*
Seth: *goes to Jacob* walk away Jake
You: *makes your way there at human speed*
Quil, Embry and Seth: *holds Jacob back*
Jacob: *shakes them off and phases*
You: *steps in front of Bella*
Jacob: *claws at your chest*
Edward: *prevents you from falling*
You: *stern* thatâs enough Jacob! *orders* shift back
Jacob: *shifts*
Sam: *throws him clothes*
You: take him back to La Push
Sam: Youâre hurt
You: Iâm aware. Iâll deal with him later *takes the forest path to Sue and Billy*
Carlisle: *introduces Charlie to Eleazar*
Rosalie: *speeds to you*
You: Iâm okay, itâs healing
Sue and Billy: *at a distance*
Sue: *gasps and runs to you*
Billy: *frowns*
You: Iâm okay. Jacob didnât touch any organs, well except skin
Rosalie: *looks at Sue and Billy* I can get you guys home
Billy: *mortified and nods*
Billy, Sue, You and Rosalie: *heads to Sam and Emilyâs
You: *enraged* what were you thinking! Are you so desperate for love that you would start a war! Attacking Bella on her wedding night. Youâve done many selfish and spiteful actions towards this pack and you have gone too far!
Jacob: ⌠I never meant to hurt you (Y/n)
You: I have given you chance after chance hoping that you would realize your actions have consequences.
Jacob: *looks at Billy for help* I would never intentionally harm another person
You: you need to leave.
Jacob: this is my home!
You: you are not to step foot on Quileute land for 3 months.
Jacob: *looks around the pack, at Billy and stomps* this is unfair. What about Sam hurting Emily? What about Paul imprinting on Rachel? What about you being too slow to save Harry!
You: *snarls and smoke coming from your body* Jacob. If you want to make it a habit to call out others mistake THAT WERE OUT OF THEIR CONTROL. I CAN START. DO YOU WANT ME TO START!⌠YOU WANT ME TO START!
Jacob: what have I done *gets up in your face*
Rosalie: *grabs his shoulder and growls* watch it
Jacob: get your arm off me or youâll lose it!
You: *grabs Jacob by the back of his neck and pulls him out*
You: *threatenly calm* You want to know what youâve done? How about telling Bella of the legends that sparked her curiosity in cold ones that has brought everything that happened in the past year. Crashing Bellaâs Prom to deliver a message that yes had good intentions, but you did it on a date nonetheless. Making Edward believe Bella was dead just so you could get the girl. Your pursuit of Bella, let alone forcing yourself on her for a nonconsensual kiss. And your stunt during the newborn army fiasco. Worrying more about your love life and than if Bella gets Hypothermia. Threatening to get yourself killed because the so called love of your life is getting married and not backing down till she kisses you.
Paul: donât forget pushing you into a newborns arms!
Quil: worrying more about Bella than your own sister!
Jared: making you phase when you were injured to âensureâ Alpha!
Leah: almost killing Sam!
Seth: phasing and almost attacking Bella at her wedding!
You: and threatening an imprint. My imprint. Not once. Not twice. But three times⌠Iâm starting to think 3 months is too lenient. Maybe half a year in solitude would benefit you and when you come back you will have no other position in this pack other than Omega
Jacob: dadâŚ
You: Jacob this isnât a request. Now if you have any difficulty whatsoever with your new found position I will willingly remove you⌠any objections *turns to the pack*
Paul: he should be banished forever!
Leah: a year at least
You: though those are both tempting. He is my fatherâs son. *walks up to Jacob* If I so much as find a trace of you on Quileute lands, it will not end well for you.
