hi cherik nation. i have a proposal.

SO @wishchip106 mentioned something in a post the other day that got me thinking. We're seeing a lot less content made that uses ian mckellen and patrick stewart's cherik, and this is something that has been prevalent since first class came out -- which was in 2011.

inspired by the unfortunate history class I am taking, where we learned about the preservation and compilation of documents from greece and other fallen empires in one library, I propose that we put together a library of older fanworks of the cherik fandom and fanworks featuring mckellen and stewart's cherik!!

It could be a fun way for everyone to find new content and to share favorites, and also serve to honor the original movieverse interpretations of our favorite tragic gays. I'm thinking I could put out a post, and everyone could reblog with links! That way, anyone can add on at anytime.

also i need help coming up with a hashtag for this if it happens. please give me ideas i am out.

I don’t know which idea is better: the one where young Thorin instantly becomes the third little menace of the company together with his nephews, or the one where Fili and Kili find out THEY are now responsible adults and are kinda scared of it.

i really want to make young!Thorin/Bilbo content, but my hand ang skills cant keep up w/ my thoughts

In the au Thorin becomes young unexpectedly. I mean, Thorin starts journey, comes to Shire, picks Bilbo up. Bilbo forms some kind of opinion about Thorin, tries to establish contact and boom-bam - FLASH! - smoke is dissipating, the squad sees young!Thorin. He's 95-97, and has no adult Thorin memories.

Really want to show that, even though Thorin is the crown prince, but he still has a childhood in the ass and can complete w/ Fili and Kili (especially, flirting w/ the hobbit).

Young crown prince didn't see a war and Frerin's and Thror's death, his father didn't disappear. In his world Dis is a little girl, relationship with the elves is not so bad. His whole life is ahead.

Of course, he calls Bilbo "Master Baggins" but does it in such a way that Bilbo's ears turn red. Young!Thorin extremly likes it, and all his thoughts are only about how to hide from the squad and caress this blashin ears w/ teeth and tongue.

Also, young!Thorin looks similar to Fili

Uncle Thorin headcanons nobody can dissuade me from, part 2: young uncle Thorin

during Dís' pregnancies he acts like a rock for her and her nervous husband, while he is secretly terrified when she goes into labour

he weeps the first time he gets to hold his nephews (and the 10 times afterwards)

he handles Fíli like a bomb in the beginning, because he is scared of accidently dropping or hurting him

after Fíli is weaned and Kíli is born, Dís and her husband have a hard time, since Kíli is a very restless baby. To give them some more breathing room, little Fíli spends the next few years in a sling tied around Thorin's chest and accompanies him everywhere. Thorin is more than a little sad, when this time ends, but fortunately soon Kíli is weaned and then Thorin gets to carry him around everywhere

he gives them cute nicknames. Fíli is his jewel and Kíli his gem.

he goes into crisis mode whenever one of the lads coughs more than once (fortunately Óin is very patient)

when Fíli and Kíli are small, they often climb into his bed at night, for example when they are cold or scared. It usually ends with Thorin waking up with at least one of Kíli's feet in his face or an elbow in his gut

he cuddles the two all the time and after little Gimli is born, he gets the same treatment

whenever all of them get together, Thorin usually ends up with three Dwarflings on his lap. (he found a way to stack them. Dís doesn't know what to think about that)

the only reason Fíli and Kíli don't call him adad is the fact, that Thorin would never claim that title out of respect for his late brother-in-law

when they are all of a sudden grown-ups, he sorely misses the time when they were small enough to sit on his knee or come running for a hug

he has a box hidden under his bed with his nephews' old things. He gets a little misty-eyed whenever he looks at their tiny baby boots. (one time he shows them to Dwalin, which ends with both of them sobbing. They don't speak of this afternoon)

he is in general a lot more affectionate and caring with them than on the quest, which is one of the reasons Fíli and Kíli are disturbed by his behaviour starting in mirkwood

What is lotrweek?

Lotrweek is a week-long event to celebrate The Lord of the Rings here on Tumblr. It takes place on 16th-22nd September 2024.

How do I take part?

Each day of the week has a prompt. Create an original work (e.g. gifset, fanart, fanfic) inspired by a prompt, then post it to Tumblr! Where the prompt has multiple parts to it, you can choose which part(s) you want to focus on – how you respond to a prompt is  comletely up to you. The prompts are deliberately vague and open so that they can work for gifs, art, fics, etc.

For example, for “histories and legacies”, you could make a gifset of Moria, or art of the similarities/differences between Luthien and Arwen, or a fic about Aragorn and the Dunedain before the War of the Ring.

Will you reblog my works?

Yes! Tag your works with #lotrweek so they can be reblogged here, and follow @lotrweek for updates on the event and to see everyone else’s works. If there’s anything nsfw or that may need a warning, make sure to do this responsibly and put said parts under a read-more.

How much can I participate?

As much or as little as you’d like! You can take part just once or every day (or even multiple times a day if you’re feeling particularly hasty). It’s up to you – just make sure you’re enjoying it!

Can I create any type of work?

Yes! Gifs, graphics, fanart, fanfic, video edits, meta – all are welcome, as long as it’s your own original work.

Does my work have to be based on the LOTR films?

Any works based on LOTR (book or film) are welcome.

Can I include other Tolkien books/adaptations?

You can, but LOTR should be the focus. So, for example, a gifset of just The Hobbit films wouldn’t work, but a gifset including shots from both The Hobbit and LOTR (e.g. to draw parallels between characters/events) would work great!
