This redesign page of my Roleshuffle AU Techno has been sitting in my drafts for a while, so let's talk my Techno design! I already have a post discussing why I made him based off an overworld pig, so check that out first if you haven't seen it. I can't really summarize it.

Something I'm doing to show "the voices" getting louder without having to use text is making his pupils get bigger, and potentially have little red glints. I know normally the more insane a character gets, the smaller their pupils gets, but I wanted him to appear a little more animalistic. While the small pupils give a very manic, crazed look, I wanted Techno to look completely focused--almost too focused. As aforementioned, animalistic. I probably won't get to the point of what actual pig eyes look like (fully black with the whites in the back), but I do want to get a similar idea across. This choice also makes him look less aware of any dialogue going on, which I is something I've been trying to do with "the voices". No thoughts, only Blood For the Blood God.

Also! I swear during a Techno stream he had a skin with a blue sweater. Maybe I dreamed it, because I couldn't find it anywhere, but I distinctly remember his chat teasing him for it, with him responding "It's a sweater!" But I digress. Perhaps I just imagined that.

Below is the original design I had for him, and was one of the first design sheets I did (if not the first ever; I don't particularly remember). I was originally not leaning into such a cartoon-y style, but I really got into that style as I started actually making the comic. (His mildly realistic teeth in that top left image haunts me.) In other notes, I think either because of the way I did his legs originally or the way I did his head originally (both were a bit elongated), he didn't look short. Part of that is because if you measure out his full-body shot, every portion of him is roughly the same length. I.E. his head is the same length as his torso, and his torso is the same length as the legs. If you take any character design course, one of the things they'll probably note is that for unique character designs, it's a good idea to mess around with proportions (both length and width). It's tough to figure out, but once you have that idea in, you can make your characters look more unique. For instance, while Techno's longest bit is his torso, in width, he has smaller legs and a bit smaller head. On the other hand, Ranboo's longest bit is his legs, and in width, the widest part is his head (if you count his little floppy-ear-thingamajigs). I really struggled implementing this tip for a while, but woooo, once I did, my designs got a lot better. I still could stand to put it in more, to be honest haha.

Also, personal note: I didn't mean to go on such a long break, but finals have been rough (3 essays, all at least seven pages...yikes). Anyways, I'm going to have a lot to catch up on, but I AM NOT DEAD. The comic will go on! It just might take a bit, and I thank all of you for your patience! :) (Also, I'm still running character asks if you're interested!)

Roleshuffle Comic update!

The Election arc might take a while to complete (college finals hurt haha). So this blog doesn't die out in the meantime, I'll be starting up something fun and low maintenance: asks!!

Specifically, this blog will act like a character asks blog, where you can ask the roleshuffle characters (and the canon ones, I guess) questions and whatnot. You can ask me questions, too, I guess, but people were doing that anyways haha

All of my replies will be in the form of some sketches (so my full attention will be placed on the comic itself), and nothing too long or crazy unless I feel so moved to do so. I also won't spoil anything that hasn't happened yet. Also, I know people like to do this on character ask blogs, so feel free to ask 4th wall breaking questions (what roleshuffle characters think about the canon ones, vice versa, ect. ect.)

Have fun with it, and I hope to get the election arc out soon!

Schlatt x Hannah romance in role shuffle when /j

I'm literally so excited for the election arc in my comic because Schlatt just gets treated like a wet towel the whole time and he absolutely does not know how to deal with it—

Hannah about to gaslight gatekeep girlboss her way through that man like a truck; his Man Voice(TM) does 0 damage. "It wasn't very effective..." is playing through his head at every single interval of the election arc. Get ready ahhaha

First off I love your role shuffle au, I've been following it since September or November and I've been in love with it the entire time.

Second I was trying to figure out who's who and I think I've got most of them but I cannot figure out who Jack is. At first I thought maybe he's Quackity but I'm pretty sure Schlatt is Quackity. So maybe Ponk, Purpled, or Skeppy?

But other than him and the og L'manburg crew: there's Fundy as Jack?

Skeppy as Punz

Ranboo as Niki

Schlatt as Quackity

Hannah as Schlatt or BBH (her red eye thing and the fact that they mentioned she was a bit off even then is why I'm thinking maybe BBH but the rest seems more like Schlatt)

I will go ahead and confirm that Hannah is Schlatt, and you're right in all areas accept one: Tubbo. The role's relatively minor, so it might not be clear for a while.

On the other side of things, the character who's in the role of Karl has shown up, but since Karl isn't super pertinent to the plot right now, it may not be immediately clear. But don't worry!! All will be revealed eventually...

Roleshuffle, Part 27! Considering current events: I've already posted my stance regarding the Wilbur situation here, but tldr; I stand with Shubble.

Regarding the Wilbur situation, I don't particularly have anything to say that hasn't already been said, but:

1. I stand with Shubble. It takes a lot of bravery to talk publicly about your abuse, especially when your abuser is as famous as Wilbur is, I imagine.

2. I will continue to draw dsmp content. For one, the character of Wilbur is different from the content creator, and two, it gives him no monetary support.

All that being said, I think this is a good time to talk about parasocial relationships. Remember, you can like and look up to celebrities, but it's always important to remind yourself that they're human. And that means they will make mistakes. They have both good and bad traits like everybody else. You cannot tell, no matter how intuitive you are, whether someone is a good or bad person based on the persona they display. In general, I've been very glad to see everyone come together to support Shubble, and I'm mainly putting this out there for the people who feel betrayed, as to avoid future hurt feelings. I just think it's an important lesson to learn, and sooner rather than later.

I hope Shubble is doing well after all this attention (I know it must be overwhelming), and I hope the love and support keeps up. We will always stand with victims.

The Updated Quackity design! Original is the image below.

Quackity is, by far, one of the most fun characters to draw (except at a full-body, front-facing angle, as I found drawing this). He's always been one of the most expressive and high-movement characters. Even back in the beginning, he was just so much fun to draw. He was always bouncing one way or another with big arms and expressions. That said, once shit hits the fan, you guys better get ready for a shift.

Spoilers (kind of) aside, Quackity in the role of Tubbo was one of those things that made me kick my feet and giggle (maniacally). It's so good. I'll get more into this once it actually comes up in the comic, but in the Canon dsmp, I wholeheartedly believe that if Quackity was let into L'Manberg in the first place, he would have easily become a Tubbo figure. Perhaps a more competent leader than Tubbo, too. The only reason C!Quackity became power-hungry is because Wilbur refused to give him any. And, one could argue, he was envious of how much power Wilbur had despite his blatant failings as a leader. So, in Roleshuffle, I essentially play out a version of Quackity where he wasn't forced into this serious, anti-hero, power-hungry character. Instead, he stays relatively lighthearted for much longer (not forever, of course).

I think Quackity was what made me realize how much I enjoyed a more cartoon-y style as opposed to an anime style. I don't think I ever really had an anime style for an extended period of time, and certainly not when I started drawing the original character sheets, but you can still definitely see the anime influences. And as much as love that, I think the more cartoon style has really helped me develop my skills. As contradictory as this sounds, I'd argue it helped me with my more realistic drawings, as I'd be able to sketch out a silly expression/pose in a cartoon style for practice, and then translate it into a (mildly) more realistic style.

Oh, also, he's based off of a Cayuga duck.

An updated Connor design sheet (the original is below). And woo. Connor was tough to figure out at the start. I knew before I started on the comic that whoever got the role of Eret would be the narrator. Then, by luck of the roll, Connor got Eret. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike Connor's character: I genuinely thought he was very solid comedic relief. He came in when needed, fulfilled his role, and was funny. However, Connor is, to put it simply, not a dramatic character. Even when he dies, it's a moment of comedy. When he comes back as a ghost, he proceeds to satirize Ghostbur, get an on-camera ending (which is more than some other characters can say), and leave. King behavior, honestly.

BUT That doesn't leave much room for the dramatic, serious narrator I was picturing. However, in the end, I grit my teeth and bared it, and sure enough, I think he turned out to be a good narrator. And I don't think I would have thought of having other characters come in to help narrate if the role of Eret had been given to a more dramatic character.

Anyways, when it came to him from a design standpoint, you can see that almost every design feature in the original design matches up with the updated (just drawn better haha). When it came to putting him in the comic, the note regarding his height is so true. I struggled putting him into panels. It's hard to put someone who's supposed to be, I don't know, 5'8", 5'9" in panels with someone who's canonically three feet tall. And all the other original L'manbergians are short. I do think that this helped me realize how much I needed to improve on how I drew scenes. As much as I loved drawing scenes straight on, 1: that's boring, and 2: it makes it near impossible to include characters of varying heights in one panel. If you look back at the first arc of the comic, you can see the exact points I struggled fitting Connor into the scene. He's usually just barely brushing the top of the panel, and all the other characters barely have their chins above the bottom of it. (You can also see a panel where I colored his pants gray instead of the normal blue, but I digress)

Oh, and the eyes on his onesie are googly eyes
