@mcyt-yuri-week Day 3: Hurt/Comfort - Patton
The bar around them was erupt with sound. Crying, orders for more drink to forget the carnage they had seen, those slumped in the corner praying.
Hannah figured she should count herself lucky she and Tina had been so close to the server portal when the explosions went off.
She pulled the shock blanket tighter around herself, the taste of ale and smoke fresh on her tongue. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched as with trembling hands, Tina took another sip of wine, wrapped in the sweater Hannah had worn on their date.
At first, Hannah had thought the ash was snow. That’s why she had taken off her wool knit sweater, a gift from Sam, and put it over Tina, making her laugh and blush.
Then the earth rumbled.
And then the sky lit up like a fireworks show.
Both of them ducked to the ground, and the building around them shook, beginning to splinter and break. As Hannah shielded Tina from the debris, a slab of stone smacked against her head, making it bleed. Another split in two on Tina's tail, snapping the bone and causing her to yowl.
When Hannah managed to stand up, her vision blurry, she grabbed Tina by the hand dragged her to the Server Portal, falling onto the Skyblock Hub in a heap, without any of their belongings. No pictures, no mementos, no word if their friends were alive or dead.
Just each other.
Tina raised her hand to order another drink, tears glossing over her eyes, threatening to spill. The barkeep was about to decline her, but sighed and relented when the weeping started. He topped off her glass, then moved onto the next customer, who was covered in ash.
"Hey..." Hannah said, her voice a whisper against the crowd. "Maybe you've had enough."
"Where-" Tina's voice cracked as her hand gripped the glass. "Where are we gonna go?"
Hannah didn't have an answer for that. She just looked away as Tina downed her glass in one shot.
She reached her hand up,wiping blood from her lower lip. "What if we're the only ones left?" Tina asked, her words hollow. "What if no one...oh gods above. Foolish. And Karl. And-"
Tina lowered her head into her arms and continued to cry, dampening the soot stained sweater, which now looked more gray than pink.
Hannah reached her hand out, and kept it on the small of Tina's back, rubbing the slightly burnt skin.
She never was too good at comfort.
