Well if my life isn't a storybook then I don't know how to describe it. I'm now a 6 time award winning director getting my last 5 awards in the last 3 weeks. As of today, I'm a 3 time award winning director ☺️成就了今天的我 — 一个获奖三次的导演。☺️ I have some amazing news. My film "8 Steps to I Love You" won the Top Shorts Film Festival. I received the "Honorable Mention Inspirational Film Award" and the "Audience Choice Award for Documentary". Because of all of you supporting this simple man with a big dream, I'm now a 3 time award winning director. Thank you everyone who believed and supported me from the beginning until now. As I learn film and TV production here in Los Angeles in hopes of making more films in the future, I know that I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my Chinese family supporting and pushing me forward. My student in Qingdao, China told me he finally discovered his dream. I told him to give everything you have to make that dream come true. My dream to become a world renowned movie director, will not be easy but I won't stop until my dream comes true. I may not know as much as others, I may not be famous or have the connections that others have but I know that as long as I give my everything to my dream, I have no doubt that my dream will become a reality. I'm a New Yorker, and San Francisco Bay Area resident who 3 years ago left America to teach English in China. Before 3 years ago I'd never left America but in the last 3 years I’ve managed to travel to 26 different countries and taught English in China and Japan. I've always tried to inspire my students to dream beyond themselves and to show them that anyone can make the impossible possible. So I try to live by example and share my stories and successes with my kids in China. So the reason I'm writing you is this: Christmas of last year, I was about to propose to my girlfriend, when suddenly our relationship came to a halt. I didn't know the reason but I wanted to make one last try to get her back, so I made a movie where I traveled to 8 different cities across China, Korea and Japan to propose to her. It was the first time I made a movie and I had no experience. I didn't know anything about movie making but because I loved her I was able to do something beyond myself and try to make the impossible possible like I always taught my students. October 5th 2016, that short film “8 Steps to I Love You” was nominated and won the award for “Best International Short Film” at the Glendale International Film Festival in Glendale, California and was screened at the Cinematic Arts Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. My first movie. I always tell my students, when I was a kid I was the shyest boy on New York. My best friend said that I was scared of my own shadow but in the last few years I went from shy boy to learning Chinese, traveling the world, and becoming an award winning director overnight. It's like living a Cinderella fairytale. So like many people around the world, my students are big fans of your show and in our Wechat group they encouraged me to try get on your show. I was reluctant at first because it's just as impossible as winning a film festival with no experience but then my kids reminded me of my own words, that together we can make the impossible possible. 🤔 After a month of traveling from China to London, I've finally arrived back home in America. I'm now living in Los Angeles and will be here for 6 months to 1 year studying film and TV production. Afterwards, when I am competent to make the kind of films that can truly touch people's hearts, I will head back to China to start directing future film projects. I want to thank everyone in China, Japan and around the world. For the last three years, I've lived a storybook adventure, from traveling to 26 countries, learning a new language, falling in love, becoming an award winning director and meeting people who have touched my heart around the world again. I fell in love with China and I will miss all of my friends there. I will work hard to become a director that can make the kind of movies that the people I know and love in Asia will truly be touched by. I left America with nothing and came back with a dream. I guess this is my 中国梦想☺️. Thank you to everyone who let me become part of your life and your world. Going to China has given this ordinary boring, simple guy the belief he can change the world.
