Kyoto Imperial Palace part B. Here's the second half of the photos I have from the Kyoto Imperial palace. As I said in the last post the estate is huge and there is a lot of walking. So it basically took a lot of energy out of us that day. We did however hit up the Boar Shrine on the side of the Imperial palace and I started a calligraphy / shrine seal book. I'll have more photos on that later. Also, a ton more photos from shrines and temples we visited while in Kyoto. Next up in Kyoto was the Imperial Palace. This will be part A...since there are a ton of photos for the palace Which was only a few blocks away from Hotel Okura Kyoto @hotelokurakyoto . So quite easy to get to and convenient. We ended up walking around for a while and almost missed the main entrance. In which we had to walk back and then enter the correct way. Which I'm glad we did because this was a really impressive thing to see. The history alone makes it worth seeing. But also the beautiful architecture and the gardens that surround the palace are astonishing. Simply beauty and power mixed together for the leadership of Japan throughout history. Also the three rooms with the tigers and cranes and floral patterns were the different levels of guests that were allowed to stay in each of those rooms. Next stop on our first trip to Japan was Kyoto. We took the Shinkansen 🚅 to Kyoto from Shizuoka, the kinda failed stop...lol We stayed at Hotel Okura in Kyoto @hotelokurakyoto . Which was an extremely nice hotel and great location in general. Definitely worth the stay if you're going to Kyoto. The hotel happened to be right across the street from the Kyoto Shinkyogoku Shopping Street @shinkShinkyogok. So we started checking it out and found many shrines and temples that had been moved to that location. Especially the Nishiki-Tenmangu Shrine. Where I bought some of the charms shown in the photos. For family members and friends when I got home. This was only the first stop and first day of our time there. And I have many photos of the Imperial Palace and temples and shrines we visited throughout Kyoto. The next stop in our trip was kind of a little snafu or mess up on my part. We rode the Shinkansen 🚄 from Tokyo to Shizuoka. To go to the Bandai / Gunpla factory there, not realizing it was closed and not open to the public for the past couple years. So slight fail on my part. However, we did end up staying at the Hotel Grand Hills Shizuoka, which had a beautiful view of Mount Fuji from the window. Also a great view of the city and the other mountain ranges around. And it was only a day trip so not too much of a mess up. And then we were on our way to Kyoto. Which will be the next few posts for all the different temples and shrines we visited. Sidenote: Shizuoka seemed like a nice city to visit. Didn't get enough time to fully check it out. And if the Gundam factory ever does reopen I will definitely go back there. Oh, one last thing about Tokyo Tower... They have a lot to check out there other than just the tower. There's a whole Whitney Houston area with her music playing. This whole red gaming zone with VR games and many other types of activities and a few exhibits as well. This is from the Junji Ito Collection they had on display there. And I know my friend and podcast co-host @jrjulioaviles is a big fan of this collection. So I had to grab some photos and send them to him while I was there. I still haven't watched it myself but he tells me I should check it out. Especially if I like horror and suspense. Like I said there are many things to check out at the Tokyo Tower so it is definitely worth a visit. This finishes Tokyo for the first part of my trip. Next up in the Tokyo part of my Japanese trip was my birthday. I spent the morning in Akihabara doing a little bit more shopping and gaming. Then in the evening my friend took me to Tokyo Tower to experience the view from up there and we also grabbed a nice birthday dinner right outside of the Tower at a beautiful restaurant. It was an astonishing experience and seeing the view and how much they built since 1960 or so is completely mind blowing. They truly built up since they couldn't build out and the skyline is amazing. A breathtaking view especially when the elevator drops a little bit while going up...lol. I am not a fan of heights All in all it was a wonderful experience and the view is one of a kind. I also had a great birthday dinner thanks to my friend. So it was a wonderful and excellent birthday in general. Sidenote: my friend had asked me while we were there if we were going to celebrate my birthday for 2 days since the time changed due to being in Tokyo. So this was my birthday on the 29th of January in Tokyo. After the museum and Diver City was visited. Our next stop in Tokyo was Akihabra. We were staying in Chiyoda City at a pretty nice hotel called Hotel Niwa. Only a couple stops away from Akihabara. So this was our first stop there and we did a ton of walking and checked out Akihabara Radio Kaikan. We kind of killed ourselves that day and had the rest a little bit from all the walking we did. But it was really awesome seeing all the different places and shops. Didn't realize though we miss so much. So I went back the day of my birthday and bought a few things plus found some Gundam arcade games. I will get more into that later. So this is just from the first time we hit Akihabra and right before my birthday. Next photos will be of my birthday and what we did. Side note, we did check out the TAMASHII NATIONS TOKYO store. That is where the Gundam and Macross model photos come from. The displays were amazing and I did want to buy a couple of them. But I prefer building gunpla's. But they did look phenomenal especially the rotating display of the Macross unit switch into veritech and suit form. And still more photos from Diver City The Gundam Base store. Such amazing displays of the models of gunpla's from tournaments and championship winners. Some of the best shots pulled directly from the anime and manga themselves. Really shows a true love for Gundam. And I was truly a kid in the candy store checking all this out. As I said I bought a few items from there. A lot of the gunpla I would want from there, I've already ordered. But they did have a couple items I picked up plus the Albion which I've never seen before that I could build. More of that to come later. I will post the complete builds soonish. Once again a truly astounding experience and blew my mind with all the amazing gunplas and stuff for sale. And of course the next stop in the trip was The Gundam Base Tokyo aka Diver City. Checked out the awesome light up Unicorn Gundam outside and also did some shopping in the Gundam base. The photos are from all the different setups they have there for past winners of gunpla tournaments and some other cool setups. I will be sharing those at another post. It was pretty awesome to actually go to the Gundam base that I've bought many products from online before. But, this time I got to actually buy them at the shop itself. Another awesome experience and something I will definitely go back and see again. Also check out the rest of the mall and see what other shops they have there. We are kind of just hungry and looking at Gundam stuff mostly. So we didn't check out the whole Mall. The next stop on our Japan birthday vacation was Tokyo. It was still a few days before my birthday so we checked out The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. That is where the pictures from this post come from. The museum was really interesting. The sounds of Akira, the way the internet works, some of the Androids and robots they had, Plus some of the other amazing things like the moving world and space related stuff were so cool and intriguing. I would definitely say it's worth a visit if you're going to japan. And it's not that far of a walk away from Diver City and the Unicorn Gundam statue. I guess you can tell my next post will be of Diver City and the Gundam store. But I'll get that posted soon. Definitely check out this museum if you get a chance and always remember to stay... One last post from Yokohama...kinda While we were down there we took the train south of Yokohama to go to the Shonan Monorail in Kamakura, Kanagawa 247-0065, Japan It was really cool riding basically an inverted monorail and a great lead up to the Shinkansen. While we were riding it we got off at a random stop to grab some food before heading back. This was a little mom and pop place we stopped at and I forgot to get the name. However, you ordered food by a tablet at your table and robot waiters brought out most of the food items and some of the drinks. All alcohol was served by actual waiters. But it was really cool just to see this at a random stop off the train. And just showed us how advanced all of Japan was going to be from then on. Haven't posted in a while and there were a couple reasons. First I was on vacation to Japan which is where this post is leading to. Plus a couple other things personally that I was taking care of. Anyways, this is the first post of many in which I was able to visit Japan for my birthday. I went with one of my dear friends and we started off our trip in Yokohama. Ended up staying in the Chinatown location in Yokohama. The food was great but we were expecting to eat Japanese food when we got there...lol. It was a nice place to start off at and located close to the Gundam factory in Yokohama. Which we checked out on the last day of our stay there before heading on to Tokyo. It was a decent first start. But I felt like the locations and the hotels kept getting better. But checking out the whole moving Gundam in Yokohama, with the specified shop for that Gundam and the last Gundam Cafe I believe. I didn't get any food at the cafe cuz I wasn't that hungry. But all in all it is a great stop for a decent price. Especially if you love gundam. I believe there was just a post about the hours that have been extended to 2024. So if you make it out there before then. Take the day trip down to Yokohama and check out the moving Gundam yourself. Sidenote: more posts to come breaking down each location I was at and possibly multiple posts depending on how many photos I got for the said location. Overdue Post: Sorry I was a little blown out after Los Angeles Comic Con (took place two weeks ago). I went to the convention after having a 2-day migraine and my body kinda locked up on the second day. Plus, I got a really bad sinus infection (not covid) after the convention. But I'm finally feeling better now. So, time to post about it. Julio and I were only there Saturday and Sunday but had a good time. The layout of the convention was a little different and blocked all the areas we try to record the podcast. So, we were unable to record a podcast onsite this year (was also a little tired). Now to the couple people I ran into at the convention. First, I met another voice actor, got her autograph, and talked to her for a quick minute. The VA in question was Michaela Jill Murphy aka @michaelamostly aka Toph and she is a super nice person. Talking with her was very chill and I had to inform her how amazing I find VAs delivering the whole acting with just their voices. They truly are amazing Actors in general. Thank you again for the quick chat. Also, I ran into the always lovely and talented @Joaniebrosas and @goblim . It is always a pleasure seeing them both and talking with them. Also, Joanie’s goofiness/playful nature with @hummin_h2 in his “The Sentinels” cosplay was funny. It is always truly a pleasure seeing and talking with them. They are wonderful people and very personable with everyone. Thank you again 😊 There are also some random shots from the convention of Julio and myself…All in All it was a pretty fun time and bought a decent amount of things. Just recovery time, took longer than expected. I cannot wait for the next couple conventions “Anime Impulse” and “Anime Los Angeles” coming up in the New Year. Plus, my true vacation after that. Kinda Geeky podcast is back... Been about 5 months since the last episode. But with so many life events going on and my car being in the shop for over a month. Not much could have been done about that. Finally getting back to a recording schedule with my podcast co-host Julio. Who also had some major life events as well too. However we got to sit down and talk about some of the conventions we've gone to since August. Also a lot of the hit movies that we've seen and some of our favorite video games so far this year.
