Incase I haven't said this before, I'm in college to become a marine biologist. I've just recently figured out that I want to specialize in sharks and deep sea animals. SO, that being said, have some shark facts I learned yesterday.

1. There are at least 12 species of bioluminescent sharks that all live in the abyssal zone or 3000-6500 meters deep where there is no light.

2. Greenland sharks are considered living fossils because they're so old. Their exact lifespan isn't known, but scientists estimate the oldest know one to be between 200 some and 500s ome years old. That's potentially 100-300 years older than the USA.

3. The whale shark is not only the largest shark, but the largest living fish in all of the oceans despite its diet of plankton and other microorganisms.

4. Not all sharks are predators. Some species like the mega mouth shark, the basking shark, and the whale shark are filter feeders and pose little to no threat to humans whatsoever.

5. There are sharks in all four of the oceans zones. An example of each would be great whites in the epipelagic zone, cookiecutter sharks in the mesopelagic zone, goblin sharks in the bathypelagic zone, Greenland sharks in the abyssal zone, and grilled sharks in the hadalpelagic zone.
