Sometimes it’s good to reflect on the past... it sounds counterintuitive but it’s not, because you can’t suppress human emotion like sadness or pain, you must acknowledge it in order to be able to let it go. And it takes time to get there too. But, Today it put me in a complete mental state of gratitude and excitement for the woman/artist I am becoming - through it all... and a reminder of the the incredible passion and love that flows from and through me, but sometimes I have shut that person down out of fear of being hurt or whatever. Always credit the artist. We creatives; Writers, photographers, painters, musicians, dancers... our works and our names are synonymous... and most of us do what we do with very little desire to be anonymous, because our work is our our expression and our living! Not giving proper credit, in my humble opinion, is just plain ol disrespectful. I have painted to music, or used quotes or pictures and ALWAYS credit the artist or source, because why wouldn’t I WANT to? It’s the very least I can do to say thank you for the inspiration I was blessed to receive. I’m speaking to this now because ( even now) because I have had my work outright copied, or posted with not so much as a mention, brought to my attention, and to have to confront/battle to a just receive a lil credit, to a creative, well, it hurts. Period. It’s usury. And it’s wrong. It also opens the door for copyright infringement wide open. In education, scientific research or journalism etc.. sources must be cited, and it’s expected. Always credit the artist. Beyond just a simple way of thanking them for however the art touched your life, it could also mean eyes on it or doors of opportunity that could open for them to keep producing and inspiring and growing their career.
