i actually need to know people's thoughts on this because at least in my experience the answer to this has drastically changed since i was on tumblr in the 2010s and its driving me fucking insane

*im talking about fandom takes specifically. not someone being horribly evil about a real-life issue or or blatantly factually incorrect. literally just harmless fandom disagreements or differing interpretations of a text/character/etc.

I am spoiling the live action Lilo & Stitch. And I am doing it up front and plainly.

Do not fucking see this movie. Do not waste your money on this. Period.

They made Nani give Lilo up to the American government. They made Nani LEAVE Hawaii and pursue being a marine biologist. They made a native Hawaiian character give up her sibling to pursue a dream that she originally did not have. This is imperialist propaganda at its FINEST.

The original fucking movie is about family staying together. It's about indigenous people being able to stay with each other and stay in their home and be together! That's the whole fucking point! Nani is Lilo's last living relative on her homeland—it is jarring, it is disgusting and disturbing that Nani would not only leave her last blood relative alone, give her up to the very government that is harming native Hawaiians TODAY, but also travel to the "mainland" for her dream!

Not to mention, Nani's actress isn't fucking Hawaiian. She's much paler in photos and real life. They fucking darkened her for this movie.

Don't even get me started on the transgender subtext of Pleakley's "human" disguise from the original movie being completely erased in favor of him being played by a regular ass white man. Jumba doesn't have his accent, they made him more villainous, and his "human" disguise is a non-fat white man—which part of his original joke, I know, is that he was bigger and was more clumsy in the movie because of his size, but to have the main shape of his character completely removed is also fucking weird.

This live action movie is a desecration to the original. I encourage you to not see it, please. Don't give Disney any of your money on this one. Just watch the original. Please just watch the original.

The new message in the live action movie is disturbing and gross.

This is one of the most disrespectful live actions I've seen and heard of. I implore you to not watch it.

I'm a little tired of hearing and reading what supposedly makes a human.

Why am I less human because I don't have empathy? I still know what's right and wrong. I still know how to be kind.

Why am I less human because I don't feel romantic or sexual attraction? I still can form deep bonds and love in my own way.

Why am I less human just because I don't show a lot of emotions? I still have them, even if they appear to be less than the average from what I've witnessed.

Why am I less human just because I can't read others' emotions and social cues?

I was just thinking about how Conan has what Shinichi does not. Conan has people who care about him other than Ran. He has people who care about whether he is eating right, if he has slept properly, if he has been traumatized by the Case of The Week and make sure he gets help. Conan has everything Shinichi never had. Shinichi has only ever had Ran. He has never tasted the true essence of humanity. He has only seen the bad. Conan, on the other hand, knows that people are good and they are sometimes so simple that there is no need for a complex deduction.

Conan has allies which Shinichi never did. He never needed them because he was so used to being alone and doing everything by himself. He is eating better as Conan than he did as Shinichi. Conan has friends who are with him not because he is a precocious child of a popular author and a world-famous actress, but for being himself. A kind child who cares about people but doesn't like to admit it. Conan has Heiji who is his best friend. Conan has Haibara Ai who teases him and scolds him. Conan has the Detective Boys.

Who does Shinichi have other than Ran and his parents who barely visit him? Other than the elderly inventor who lives in the house next to him? Shinichi only has enemies whereas Conan has friends, allies and people who stick with him through thick and thin. No wonder Shinichi hates Conan. He envies him and wishes he never existed. Now that Shinichi knows what it is like to be loved, known and cared for, how can he go back to being Shinichi who only has Ran? The same girl he has been lying to for ages to protect her? The girl who has been crying while waiting for Shinichi to return as himself?

Shinichi is in a true dilemma. Can he leave behind the people he cared for as Conan to become Shinichi? I know I don't want to be in his position.

i feel like it would have been ideal if i could have kept a consistent 'i' pov but various lines fit one or the other better so i just... went with it... also idk how to panel... and also i only have vague ideas of the ""lore"" behind this so if anything's nonsensical... my bad. i hope the intent is clear enough, though, despite everything

all in all it turned out better than i expected tho so ^_^ yippee! though this might be the 2 am talking.

i actually feel like i have ideas for most / all of the rest of the lyrics so i might go back in the future and add/rearrange to fit a video, but for now, i wanted to end it here bc it feels better this way when there's no actual audio. and hopefully it'll kick start the other video projects ive been stuck on...?
