Reposting because I can, dammit.
So I broke down and did the thing.
I created a 9-1-1 JCINK RPG.
And I need a couple Lone Star stans that would like to join the Admin team!

I fucking hate everything right now.
I haven't hurt this bad because a tv character since Sam sacrificed himself at the end of S5 in Supernatural.

SO my current WIP went into a whole different direction that I had envisioned, which is why I haven't posted it yet. So, here, have the first part of Rumor ('Bout Me and You), which has turned into a 5 + 1 lol. ~~
…You know I've known you forever
How many nights we hung out together
Same little crowd, little bar, little town
Round this old dance floor
~
Hen
Henretta Wilson was not a naive person.
Oh no, no, no, she was always able to tell when something was…off within the 118. She had a keen sense for the subtleties in conversation, the slight shifts in tone, and miniscule changes in body language. She would sit through their shifts, observing one person to another, catching the little quirks that hinted at something more. Like the way that Chimney always rubbed the back of his neck when he was nervous, or trying (and usually failing) to keep a secret. The way that Buck would hold onto whatever was in his hands a little tighter than normal when Eddie was talking about the insane, yet drastic tactic his parents had tried to pull in keeping Christopher away from him even longer. Bobby’s exasperated yet fond expression when they all took turns yelling at each other in a round of Mario Kart.
These details always told a bigger story, ones that maybe they weren’t entirely privy to.
Or hadn’t perhaps been discussed at all.
At least not between the two that it involved, anyway.
Hen was aware of the rumors that used to run between shifts when Eddie first joined the 118. It was hard to believe Buck absolutely hated the brunette when he first started, and she couldn't help but snort thinking back at the way Buck was peacocking around trying to make Eddie feel intimidated. How not even a shift later they were as thick as thieves, pieces of a puzzle they didn’t even know fit together. She noticed the way they always bumped shoulders, sometimes set a little too close together, and had sometimes wondered out loud to Karen if there was anything deeper in their friendship. Of course, others on shift had noticed, too.
But then, Eddie’s wife returned and Buck started an on-again-off-again fling with Taylor Kelly, and those rumors died down. And life amongst the 118 went back to normal-ish (throwing in a lawsuit that felt more like divorce in the middle, because why not).
The rumors returned after Eddie was buried 40 feet under mud and Buck tried to dig him out personally.
That’s when the bet started between A and B shifts, trying to pinpoint how long it was going to take these two morons to figure out what everybody else knew.
For the first couple of months after that particular incident, the two firefighters clung to each other, bar following each other to the bathroom or showers. They sat with their knees between each other in the fire engine, their playful banter sometimes came out more flirtatious than anything. Then the world was shut down by the Pandemic, and Hen began to notice even more. Especially when she and Chimney were rooming with the two at the loft. She noticed how the two would maneuver around each other almost in sync, unspoken words between them tying their motions even further, whether it was fixing dinner when it landed on their rotation or the way that Buck would rub small circles on the small of Eddie’s back after ending a call with Christopher, both longing to just hug the kid just as Hen wanted to cling to her own.
And if she and Chimney ended up restarting those rumors and got more people to join in on the bet, well, that was between her and the good Lord.
Throughout the years, between failed relationships and tragedies, the bet had become a thing in the past, a small fortune of about $500 locked in the tiny box at the bottom of her locker. And then Buck came out to them, not with Eddie, but with Tommy Kinard of all people, and the whispers began again. The whispers became louder when Christopher ended up going to live with his grandparents in Texas, though outside of the core 6 (Hen, Chimney, Buck, Eddie, Bobby, and Ravi), nobody knew the exact reason.
After Tommy and Buck broke up, a few people who had joined the team since the bet initially began decided to throw in their own bets, believing that since Buck was on the outs at least, it would now only be a matter of time before somebody walked away with a huge payday.
All bets stopped once more after Eddie announced that he was moving to Texas to be closer to his son. Or at least, outside of Hen and Chimney, anyway.
It started after the shift Eddie announced he was leaving, when Buck burst through Chimney and Maddie’s front door. Hen and Karen had been over, letting Mara and JeeYun have a playdate, who looked equally surprised to see the younger firefighter looking pleased as punch, a stark difference from how he had been sulking after Eddie’s announcement.
“Sure, Buck, come on in,” Maddie muttered sarcastically as he bounced on his heels, looking between his two coworkers.
“I’ve got it! I know how to help Eddie!”
“Please, Lord God, do not tell me you’re going to move with him,” Hen said.
“What? No,” Buck replied, and Hen thought it weird that Buck didn’t even deny that could be an option for him. “You know how he’s trying to find somebody to sublet for him, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I talked to my landlord, and he’s going to let me out of my own lease, so I can take over Eddie’s.”
“And have you…told…Eddie this?” Maddie asked.
“Not exactly. But I applied to his listing.”
Hen closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, trying to will herself not to strangle the blonde. When she opened her eyes, Karen was taking a deep sip of her wine.
“You don’t think he won’t notice that?” Maddie’s tone was full of exasperation as she shook her head.
“I didn’t use my name, thank you very much.”
“Then what name did you use?” Chimney asked.
“Freddie Fakeman.”
There was silence between the group sitting at the dining room table for a brief moment before they all broke out into laughter.
“Freddie Fakeman?!” Chimney howled. “Really?!”
“What, I thought it was pretty good!”
“I’ve got to tell Bobby,” his brother-in-law guffawed and pulled out his phone. “He’s going to think this is hilarious.”
“What, hey - no,no, Chimney!” Buck tried to protest as Chimney bounced up from the table and took off towards the back patio, cacking as Buck chased after him. As the sliding door shut behind the two, Maddie glanced at Hen and Karen.
“Is that bet at the 118 still going?” Maddie asked.
“Oh, very much so,” Hen replied with a nod.
Maddie nodded and took a sip of the water in front of her. Then, she reached behind her to her purse that was hooked to the chair behind her, and took out a $20, sliding it towards the paramedic. “$20 says Buck ends up admitting he’s in love with Eddie after he leaves for El Paso,” she said. “And for them to hook up when Eddie comes back.”
Hen and Karen shared a knowing glance, and Hen took the bill in front of her and slid it into her coat pocket.
“I’ll add it to the pool.”

Preview of Rumor ('Bout Me and You) **New Songfic**
~
There's a rumor goin' round about me and you
Stirrin' up our little town the last week or two
~
“I’m sorry, Tommy thought what?”
“You heard right, Diaz,” Chimney replied, almost gleeful. “Apparently you were some type of competition to Tommy! That’s why he broke up with Buck back in October, or was it November?”
“Okay, back up, Chimney.” Eddie pulled his phone away, just to balance it between his left shoulder and ear. “How do you even know about this?”
“Maddie, duh.”
“Uh huh. And did you get this directly from your wife or were you eavesdropping on their conversation?”
Silence.
“Chimney…”
“Fine, I kinda overhead it! But still, it doesn’t change the fact that this happened!”
“...When did this happen?”
“Do you want the whole story from the beginning or the general idea?”
“Please, Chim, if you start from the beginning, you’ll go back to the day you met Buck. Quick Notes version, please.”
“Fine,” the older firefighter huffed. “So apparently, Buck and Ravi had gone out drinking, Buck wouldn’t stop talking about you, so Ravi saw Tommy and kinda just left the two together. And well, I don’t need to remind you of Buck’s 1.0 era.”
“No,” Eddie grumbled, more so at the fact that Buck hooked up with his ex-boyfriend, who had broken Buck’s heart far worse than he had ever seen a female do so than being annoyed that his best friend reverted back to terrible coping habits. “Still trying to figure out how I fit into all of this.”
“Right, so, apparently the next morning Tommy had tried to pull out the stops, y’know, cooking breakfast for him, trying to make this grand gesture of wanting to try again, and I guess Buck had asked him what changed from Tommy being afraid of Buck breaking his heart or whatever horseshit he had told him, and Tommy had the gall to call you the competition! He broke up with Buck because he thought you two were in love!”
Eddie’s jaw tightened at that. “And that’s the best he could come up with?” He shook his head, an anger that he didn’t even realize had been there bubbling just beneath the surface. “He led Buck on for six months, treated him like an afterthought half of the time during their relationship, and then tried to blame it on me?”
“There was some more to that whole conversation they had, but uh…you should hear that from Buck himself.” Chimney’s voice went from the tone of telling a hilarious story to a hint of seriousness. “But I should let you know, I’m not sure if it’s Tommy’s doing or what, but uh…there’s been a rumor going around about…you and Buck.”
Eddie’s heart skipped a beat. “A rumor? What kind of rumor?”
~~~ This one probably won't be as long as Hard to Love, but wanted to post a snippet!
Whole fic should be posted Tuesday or Wednesday!
You know what I want to happen in tonight's episode??
I want the opening scene to be of Buck and Eddie doing their usual FaceTime catch-up, and they're getting ready for bed or wrapping up their day or whatever, and we see them say goodnight blah blah blah.
Then, it changes over to a similar scene we saw with Buck and Temu but we don't see who it at first. Taylor Swift's "I Can See You" is playing while these two shadows are making their way down a dark hallway making out and trying strip each other out of clothes and then all of a sudden we see Eddie falling back onto the blue couch before it pans over to Buck. And then boom! Eddie wakes up and is like what the fuck was that?
And then we get the title card and that's how the episode opens.
Exerpt of Hard to Love (pt 2)
***
you've given me a million-second chances
And I don't ever wanna take you for granted
***
After making sure Chris was okay with staying with the Wilsons overnight (which of course, no objections when it came to an impromptu sleepover), Eddie grabbed his jacket he had left in the foyer and made his way outside. Buck had driven them here, and had left with his keys. Sure, he could have asked to borrow anybody’s keys, but this was something that he wanted - no, needed to do alone.
He pulled out his phone, pulling up the Find My Friends app. The 118 had set one up with each other when Hen had been toying around with the idea of medical school and Eddie had taken his short detour at Dispatch. There was a cluster of blue dots together, since they were all together at the Han residence. But there was one that had veered off from the rest. It wasn’t following the streets, but rather a trail that led nearby to Griffith Observatory.
Eddie took a deep breath, beginning his own path towards the trail ahead. He kept watching Buck’s dot move further away from him, getting closer to the Observatory above him. It was getting later in the evening, and even though it was early May, it had been cloudy for the most part, with patches of blue sky peaking through every so often.
Once he hit the trailhead leading up to Buck’s destination, Eddie pocketed his phone and focused on the familiar path. He and Buck had walked it a couple of times, taking turns carrying Chris who had been adamant about going with them when he was younger. After particularly rough shifts or even rough days in general, it had become the Buckley-Diaz sanctuary. It had become their own little escape away from the chaos.
This time was no different, he thought as he continued to climb. Even though he knew that Chimney sometimes worried about the trail being so close to their home (especially after Maddie’s more recent kidnapping), Eddie was glad they lived so close to one of Buck’s safe places. Still hearing Margaret Buckley’s words to her own flesh and blood still bounced around in his head, causing the anger he had felt to fuel his quickened way up the trail. His steps slowed as he neared the base of the hill, breathing heavily from the incline. He pulled out his phone again, looking for the blue dot that belonged to Buck. It was closer now, signaling that he had been stationary for the time being.
Finally reaching the top, he paused to catch his breath, bent slightly with his hands bracing against his knees. The Observatory was out of the city limits enough to create a stunning view, dusk beginning to set in and the lights of the city sprawling below him. But he had no time to admire it. He looked up towards the large building, finally spotting Buck leaning up against the balcony above him. He hadn’t noticed him, his gaze focused on the city in the distance.
With a grunt, he pushed himself upright and headed towards the spiral concrete stairs leading to the Observatory. Each step felt heavier, but the anticipation drove him forward. As he reached the top, the glow of the city was starting to become more prominent. Even through the smog, the lights illuminated the ski, popping against the shades of orange and purple as the sun started to set.
He reached the top of the balcony, following the path around the columned platform. Buck was still gazing out at the landscape before him, and only looked over at Eddie when he came to stop next to him.
“I figured you would know where I went,” he murmured.
“Of course,” Eddie replied, leaning up against the concrete barrier, looking out at the horizon. They shared a moment of silence, simply soaking in the view. He was unsure how to start a conversation, everything he had rehearsed up the trail failing to formulate into words.
“This place never gets old, does it?” Buck spoke eventually, his gaze still on the city below them. “It’s always been our escape.”
“Yeah,” Eddie said with a nod. He turned to face Buck, and finally took in his appearance. His curls that he had gelled down before they left the house earlier on that day had fallen flat, pressed to his head as though he’d just gotten out of the shower. His eyes were red and swollen.
“You know this was the first place I came to when I moved out here?” Buck continued. He still hadn’t looked over at Eddie, the brunette had noticed. Eddie couldn’t help but take a micro step closer to him, enough to make their shoulders gently bump against each other. “Connor, and some of the guys that came with us from Peru, they had flown. I had my Jeep, so I drove up alone. I…I really didn’t mind, it was peaceful. And it was about this time when I made it in the city, and I had done some research, about the best place to get a view of the city. I caught the gift shop right before it closed and bought a single postcard -”
“For Maddie.” Eddie didn’t even realize he had whispered the response.
“Yeah, for Mads.” Buck finally broke his gaze and looked over at Eddie. “She was the only one who loved me, back then. Not that I knew it at the time.”
“Buck -”
“You know that entire time I had been on the road, bouncing from city to city, job to job, nobody had tried to reach out to me? I mean, I know why Maddie couldn’t, but my parents?” Tears fell from his eyes, and Eddie wanted nothing more than to wipe them away. “For almost ten fucking years they pretended that I didn’t exist. If-if it hadn’t been for Maddie getting pregnant and them coming here when she was expecting Jee-Yun…would they have even cared to reach out?”
He sniffed, only for a sob to break out. “Why couldn’t they care for me, Eddie? Why am I so hard to love?”
I've seen a lot of 9-1-1 fanvid tickytoks with country songs
So I'm working on a song fic collection of Buddie stories
(somebody please take my Spotify away from me)
Excerpt from the first one:
***
I'm hard to love, hard to love, oh, I don't make it easy
***
They had finally set down for dinner; Bobby and Buck bringing in the plates stacked of grilled chicken and pork chops, setting them in the middle of the various sides spread out across the table.
"Everything looks amazing, guys," Maddie gushed as her brother sat down beside her, Chimney on her other side at the head of the table and trying to keep Jee-Yun from grabbing the large spoon in the fried potatoes that we setting in front her.
"Yes, thanks, Bobby, Buck," Chminey complemented as everybody around them started passing plates amongst each other.
"It was mostly Buck," Bobby said, and Buck felt the tips of his ears burn with embarrassment, but felt his heart swell with pride as it usually did when he was praised. "I just supervised."
"Well, I'm surprised, Evan," his mother replayed with that usual condensending tone she always had when speaking to him. She and Phillip were setting across the table from the Buckley siblings. "I guess you managed to to do well on your own after all."
And just like, the tiny bubble of pride Buck had felt had popped. The light conversation that had been buzzing around the table fell off in uncomfortable silence.
"Mom," Maddie hissed. "Stop."
"What?" her mother immediately wailed, forever playing the victim. "I was just saying -"
"That what, Mom?" Buck said, no emotion in his voice; he knew it was only a matter of time before either his mother or father made a comment to ruin the moment. Beside him, Eddie dropped his hand to rest it on Buck's thigh, as though he was trying to keep Buck grounded. "That you're surprised I'm not this complete incompetant idiot you've always assumed I was."
"That's not fair to your mother, Evan," Phillip scolded lightly. "I think your mother was just surprised, that's all."
Buck scoffed and shook his head, stabbing of the grilled chicken cutlets off the plate in front of him. He knew better than to reply, knew that it was just a typical cheap shot to get a rise out of him. He concentrated on the rubbing patterns that Eddie was doing on his thigh, and practiced the breathing exercises he and Doctor Copeland had discussed in the emergency session he had booked the day before.
Chimney and Hen restarted the conversation around them, and for a brief moment, things went back to normal as they all ate. Buck reached out and gave Eddie's hand a quick squeeze and looked over at him. Eddie squeezed back and gave a short nod, before continuing to fill his plate as well.
"So," Phillip's voice brought Buck out of his thoughts as they were finishing up dinner, the kids already having come from the living room and begging for dessert. "Have you two picked out a name?"
"We have, actually," Maddie said, grabbing Chimney's hand. "Kevin Daniel Han."
"Oh, you guys, that's perfect!" Karen exclaimed from across the table.
"We thought so too," Maddie said. "Mrs. Lee cried when we went to tell them."
"Kevin was my best friend growing up," Chimney explained, seeing the confused looks on Buckley parents. "His parents raised me after my own mother passed away, and we grew up like brothers. He...uh, he passed away in a work accident a few years ago."
Buck had a feeling there was a reason Chimney was leaving out the fact that Kevin had been a firefighter.
"I bet Albert is wondering when he's going to get honored with a baby name," Hen joked, trying to keep the conversation light.
"Hey, if we're blessed to have another little one, we can always name him Albert Evan," Chimney quipped, causing a small chuckle from majority of the table.
"I don't think the universe could handle two of us," Buck replied with a chuckle. "It couldn't handle us being roommates during the pandemic." He ignored how his mother gave out an exasperated sigh from across the table.
"Well, I bet both Daniel and Kevin are honored to know their legacy is being kept alive," Athena said.
"I think so, too," Maddie said softly, letting her hands rest on her stomach, which Buck felt had grown since the last time he saw his sister (which was only 3 days ago).
"It's just nice to know we'll at least have two grandchildren to spoil as they get older," Margaret said wistfully, letting the wine she had consumed during dinner take over her mouth.
Buck stilled from lifting his own glass of wine to lips. Around the table, the conversation had once again went silent.
"Hey, we can always hope for Albert Buck Junior," Chimney said jokingly, though nobody around the table chuckled.
"Come now, Howard," Phillip said, using that tone that made it seem like he knew better than anyone else. "We got to take Maddie's age into consideration -"
"Which is fine, dad," Maddie muttered, shaking her head. "Women can get pregnant into their early 40's."
"But it's too much of a risk, Maddie," Margaret argued. "I mean, look what happened after Jee-Yun -"
"And I got the help I needed, Mother."
"And you still have Buckaroo!" Chimney said.
"Oh come now," Margaret said after taking another long drink from her glass, "Evan gave away the rights to the child he helped bright into the world already."
"I didn't have any rights, Mom," Buck replied through gritted teeth. "I just helped out a couple of friends who wanted to be parents."
"And besides," Margaret continued, as though Buck hadn't spoke, "with his new...romantice preferences, it would be impossible."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Buck asked, voice raised.
"There are other ways to have a child, Mom," Maddie said. "It's 2025, for Christ's sake."
"Still," their mother huffed, picking up the wine glass in front of her, "Evan can't keep a relationship longer than 6 months. Maybe if he wasn't so hard to love, he could keep somebody that actually wanted him."
The entire room fell silent.
Buck stared at his mother - no, more like stared through her - holding in a breath he didn't even know he had took in. Phillip shifted in the seat beside Margaret and picked up his fork to push the remaining food around on his plate. Buck knew that the relationship had always been strained, and while they had somewhat worked on it after he learned about Daniel and after the lightning strike, he didn't fully expect his mother to admit that she didn't love him to his face.
"Excuse my language," Athena spoke up from down the table, and Buck glanced down to see a look he hadn't seen in the police sergeant since he had first met her years ago - a look of absolute loathing. "But what the fuck do you mean by that?"
