✈️ AIRPLANE — have you traveled anywhere that helped you discover something about yourself and/or about the world?

Old Krow smiled. "Ah, travel questions? This one's easy." He leaned back in his seat. "I've been a few places, but Yukito — my husband, for those of you who don't know — and I have traveled to and from Japan a couple of times. He was originally from Tokyo's Hidden City, so he wanted to show me the place he grew up. We visited both up top and down below. So I'll share three things I've learned."

The older man held up his index finger. "1. Chopsticks are impossible." He shrugged. "I just accepted I'll never be good at using them. Yukito thinks it's funny that I'm always dropping food on me whenever I try, or that I'll skewer it when I get fed up, which apparently you're not supposed to do." He grumbled and crossed his arms. "Sometimes I could hear others around me muttering, 'Ganbatte, gaijin, ganbatte kudasai.'" *

Krow held up two fingers, smiling as he moved on. "2. Japan and Tokyo's Hidden City are beautiful. The atmosphere is not like NYC. It feels like most people try to do their part for the community. The culture there is nice. If we hadn't already decided that here was our home, we'd probably live there." He chuckled, resting his chin on his hand. "Traveling is exciting, of course. Going to see new places and things, having a fun time… that wasn't my life growing up. I'm free to do that now. But I think I'm always going to be called back to a rougher, dirtier, crime-infested city. Guess it feels more like home to me. New York, what a town, am I right?"

He held up three fingers. "3. The last thing I've learned is that handsome hare has a vice grip on my heart," he sighed with dreamy hearts in his eyes. "The first time we visited was before we were married. Let me tell you, it was pretty hard to not propose to Yukito while we were sitting under the moonlight sakura, which grow underground and glow pink and white. I didn't have anything prepared at the time, but if I had, I might have gone for it." He rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed. "I don't think he would have minded either way, but I later learned that hanami,** both above and below ground, is associated with hanging out with friends, family, or coworkers, as well as quiet reflection, more than it is romance. Guess it's good that I wasn't prepared."

Krow smiled shyly at the camera. "But I really wouldn't mind going back again. I had fun."

🩶 GRAY HEART — what kind of friend do your friends consider you to be (mom friend, uncle friend, funny friend, etc) and why? what do you think this says about your personality?

Young Krow grinned. "I'm kind of the big brother friend. I'm like that with younger friends, at least." He paused for a moment, idly playing with the white ends of his hair. "I've never had siblings, so I don't know what that says about me. Maybe that I'm protective and serious?" He shrugged. "I just want everyone to be safe. Guess I'm sort of like King in that way. I've found I have a lot in common with him that I didn't think I did."

"I don't mind being a big brother." He leaned in close to the camera and lowered his voice. "I've kind of always wanted to be." He jabbed a half-joking, threatening finger at the camera. "Don't tell the rest of the family though, okay? I'll never hear the end of it."

✍️ WRITING HAND — what is one thing you wish you were better at? this can be a tactical skill, social skill, hobby, etc

Both Krows answered at the same time over each other. "Covering up emotions," the younger said. "Having a better poker face," the older replied. They both turned to each other in surprise then laughed.

"You too?" Teen Krow asked.

"Well, we are the same person," Old Krow said.

The younger one nodded, looked to the camera, and explained with a wave of his hand. "We've— we've never been the best at hiding our emotions. Everyone calls us an open book, or wearing our heart on our sleeve. It causes us a lot of trouble."

"That's why we mask up when we fight," Old Krow said, grabbing his hockey mask on a nearby table and lowering it over his face. Teen Krow copied the older one and put on his own mask.

The glowing green eyes Old Krow's mask pierced the viewer. "Now you can't really see what we're thinking or feeling. At night, this look can be scary. Pretty sure I've made other grown men piss their pants," he joked.

"That's not that impressive. So have I," Teen Krow grumbled.

Old Krow chuckled and patted his younger counterpart's shoulder. "Of course, you're pretty scary too."

The hockey masks hid a lot of things. But even it couldn't hide the teen's beaming smile and shining eyes underneath.

// i'm genuinely amazed at how quickly this blog is gaining attention. it's only been like a day and a half or so. very exciting tbh!

// i haven't done tumblr rp (successfully) in a long time. been since like 2017 that i ran an rp blog that was semi-popular. but my writing has massively improved in 7 years and i've grown as a person. nowadays i feel far more confident in what i'm doing.

Young Krow nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, good question. Yeah, I do! Or, in theory. I haven't had the chance to really play them much, so much has been going on in my life. But Honey — he's our Mikey — showed me what Sonic the Hedgehog is, as well as his counterpart, Shadow." He grinned. "I like Shadow! He's cool. And his name matches the name of my pet ferret."

"I've tried to play video games with the others, but I sort of… get stuck? Usually at the character customization screen or the tutorial. Even when I start, I don't know what to do first." He shrugged. "Maybe I need to be given less choices."

Old Krow shook his head. "No, but not for the reason you think. I've played them, of course, do I look like I was born in the 20th century?" There was a beat before he said flatly, "Don't answer that question."

He continued, "The reason I don't like them is because I found I'm not good at them. Kind of sucks all the fun out of it when you can never win. All those reflexes and skills in fighting and sports don't do shit for me in video games. Guess pressing little buttons isn't exactly the same thing."

He smiled a little. "Though I'm good at the motion games. I'm the Wii Bowling champ. Not too bad at Golf either."

"Overall, while I'm bad at them, I do think they are fun. Engaging. Maybe a little too much. It's distracting. I always feel like I should be doing anything else."

⚔️ CROSSED SWORDS — do you have any skills that you are absolutely grateful you have and that mean a lot to you? how do you usually use these skills?

Teen Krow tapped his cheek as he thought. "Skills that mean a lot to me…" He smiled. "I was taught Lou Jitsu-style martial arts. I can throw a mean punch and a meaner kick," he boasted, puffing his chest out a little.

"Am I the best martial artist ever? No way. That title goes to the turtles and Splinter himself. But watching those training videos as a kid, and then sensei building on that during training, got me through the apocalypse. I'm grateful for that."

"And how else do I use those skills? To beat the ever-living shit out of the Krang!" he proudly declared with a fist in the air and fire in his eyes. "And maybe to stop some other crime along the way," he added more calmly.

🍂 FALLEN LEAVES — how would you metaphorically describe your life and the journey(s) you've been on?

Old Krow thought for a bit, stroking his beard, and then smiled. "Like climbing Mount Everest."

After a beat, he elaborated. "I recently learned about this." Illustrating with his hands, he moved them higher and higher as he explained. "You start at the base of the mountain then move up to base camp. You have to get acclimated to the thin air at that altitude for a long time. Then you finally start your ascent. But it's extremely dangerous despite the help you get and even in the best conditions. People around you could die due to anything — stupidity, lack of fitness, lack of cooperation, bad luck. The environment is against you, sometimes an avalanche happens that people could get caught in. Or frostbite, or hypothermia. And you have to keep moving forward anyway."

He paused to collect his thoughts. "On Mount Everest, you can't really save people so easily. To be blunt, there's dead bodies everywhere. Maybe just out of sight, covered in snow and ice, but you know they're there and haunt the mountain. It can feel hopeless at times. And it's so hard to adapt to the harsh environment you're in." He shrugged. "But you can't be distracted by the death or potential death or how harsh things are. You have to adapt and use all you got to survive." His voice turned grave. "Your only goal is for you, and hopefully everyone in your group, to make it to the top and back down again — alive."

Old Krow let out a little sigh and sadly smiled. "But when you're finally at the top… hell, I can only imagine how amazing the view is. Must really be something. It's got to be incredible, for people to risk their lives for it."

He leaned in close to the camera, smile widening to a playful grin, and whispered. "Little Me doesn't know he's nearly at the top already." He winked. "Don't tell him, though."

Teen Krow scrunched up his face in thought and bounced his leg.

"Ooh, that stumped him," Old Krow teased when the teen didn't respond for a long time.

"Shut up, I'm thinking," the younger one snapped, his leg bouncing more.

Old Krow chuckled. "How about anger?"

"Fine. Anger. Fear. And sadness," the teen finally answered glumly. He leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees and cradle his cheek in his hand. "And probably because everything sucks even though everything's fine now. Except it isn't really."

Old Krow's brow wrinkled in concern over his younger counterpart's moodiness but did not comment on it. Instead he looked to the audience. "Our emotions are pretty strong and we feel them often, so it's tough for both of us to say. But I'll still try to answer the question."

He swayed in his seat and hummed. "Me, I think I'm pretty happy these days. Of course, I don't think my angry streak will ever leave me," he said with a small nod toward the younger counterpart. "I just channel it all into fighting crime now. And the last one…" He rubbed the back of his neck, smiling shyly. "Well, I do still worry a lot. There's lots to be concerned about."

He casually leaned back in his seat and put his feet up, looking pretty comfortable. "But that's life for ya!"

A black-and-white haired teen appeared on an amateurish-recorded video you were watching. He smiled shyly and waved, his voice wavering slightly at the beginning before gaining confidence.

"Hi there, my name's Krow Jones. Some time ago I helped stop aliens from invading NYC. That was... certainly something." He shrugged. "I'm stuck in the past and kind of bored, so I decided to try this. It was sensei's idea, actually. Not really sure how it all works, but can't be too hard, right?"

An older, more muscular man who looked nearly identical to the teen came into the frame. He put a supportive hand on the younger man's shoulder. "You'll get the hang of it, Little Me."

Younger Krow playfully glared at his older counterpart. "Hey, who are you calling little, old man? We're the same height!"

The older one let out a hearty, good-natured laugh. "That we are! But you're still little in age, you know? You're 19, your life's barely begun!" He gave the camera a wide grin, eyes sparkling. "We've noticed some people are curious about us. So we'll answer the internet's most burning, nosy questions! In a longer book-like form, no less. 'It's supposed to emulate vlogging but with words', our writer said. Very fancy!"

"Seems like overkill for something so casual," teen Krow remarked. He gestured to the long blocks of writing on the fourth wall. "Who's going to even read all this?"

Old Krow shook his head. "Have faith in our audience. Anyway, let's wrap this up. Like we practiced, okay?" He counted off on his fingers. "3, 2, 1..."

Both men hooked thumbs, their hand splayed open to each resemble one half of a bird's wings. They sang their vlog's tagline in unison. "You caw, we'll caw back!"

I know it’s atypical of an ask blog, which are often in 1st person and assumes the character themself is running the blog. But bear with me, it will be fun to pretend you the reader are watching vlogs or interacting with them through video! Easier for me to write this way too, it helps express characters through action/verbal tone/etc.

Minors are free to follow/interact publicly (likes, reblogs, replies, asks), but keep in mind that the writer is much older and the characters are both adults in their own right. If this makes you uncomfy, don't follow. Please be reasonable and respect boundaries, otherwise you’ll be blocked.
