“The Marauders owe Snape an apology.”

No, they really don’t. I’m in no way excusing how they treated Snape as teenagers, that was a bit uncalled for (although he was a bigot and aligned with/in the process of joining a terrorist group, and I feel like that says something about what kind of person he was). But let’s look at what he did to the Marauders.

James — Snape directly caused James’ death. There’s no way around that. Snape told Voldemort about the prophecy, which is the whole reason he went after the Potters and the whole reason James is dead. And Snape didn’t care. Yes, he tried to save Lily because he was “in love with” (read: creepily obsessed with) her, but he didn’t give a single fuck about James or Harry. He was more than ready and willing to just let James and Harry die. And it’s because of him that Voldemort went after the Potters in the first place.

(Note: I have seen far too many people — including Dumbledore — brush that off with the argument that “he had no way of knowing” that it was the Potters. And yeah, he didn’t, but that doesn’t make it okay! In fact, it makes it worse because it suggests (read: confirms) that Snape wouldn’t have even bothered switching sides if it hadn’t been that Lily was in danger.)

Sirius — Snape completely ignored the four people (besides Sirius) that were telling him that something else was going on and tried to hand Sirius and Remus over to the dementors to be kissed. He completely ignored the four people telling the same alternate story (and showing no signs of being confunded, thank you) and insisted that Sirius had to be guilty instead of even considering that he may be throwing an innocent man to the dementors. He then spent the better part of a year taunting Sirius for not being able to go out and physically help the Order, regularly accusing him of being lazy and “taking it easy” while Sirius was trapped in the house he had grown up being abused in.

Remus — Snape outed him as a werewolf and literally ruined not only Remus’ life, but also the lives of every werewolf affected by the British Ministry of Magic. He made it so that Remus had to leave the only steady job he’d had in who knows how long (it’s confirmed that James was supporting Remus financially during the war because he couldn’t find regular work) and he opened the door for Umbridge to make the discriminatory laws that made it impossible for werewolves to find any kind of work in the magical community.

He also taught Remus’ class how to identify and kill werewolves while covering for him during the full moon. This not only risked exposing Remus, but also completely robbed him of his chance to teach about werewolves as he should have been able to — as normal people with an affliction that they have no control over — instead of as monsters, the way the rest of the magical world (and Snape) views them.

(Pettigrew... probably owes just about everyone an apology, honestly, I’m not even going to touch that one.)

My point is that Snape did horrible things to the Marauders and I honestly don’t think they “owe him” shit.

Not to be a dick, but that whole “she won’t marry anyone at this table” joke in ATYD didn’t make me giggle at the weirdness of Remadora or think about the age gap in any way shape or form, but it does give me ick about the author. Like, you put this scene in there that makes Remus—your protagonist—look like a pedo. Why? Because in the books he is NOT that lmao

Pretty much. Whenever people say Snape is innocent, they seem to conveniently forget his literal genocide alignment.

When will people understand Snape was not a victim and the marauders WERE NOT in the right? Both can be true people

Snape was a racist. Full stop.

Snape USED SECTUMSEMPRA SO OFTEN IT WAS HIS SIGNATURE.

Snape hung around people who COMMITTED HATE CRIMES ON SCHOOL GROUNDS.

Snape literally stalked The Marauders.

He was already on the way of becoming a death eater, too. The war started in NINETEEN FUCKING SEVENTY. Not their fifth year. Not their sixth. Not their seventh or after that. A whole year before they went to Hogwarts. And still he aligned himself with people who were essentially nazi wannabes.

And he DID fight back. He initiated things too. It wasn’t this one-sided attack.

With that being said, The Marauders weren’t saints in the situation either.

Ganging up on him 4v1 (because let’s be so real, AT LEAST Remus would probably jump in if needed to back up James and Sirius.) isn’t the best thing to do.

IMO, it’s quite obvious that the reason they did what they did (I won’t call it bullying because…It wasn’t.) is because 1. He was a death eater wannabe, death eaters were most likely COMMITTING WAR CRIMES AT SCHOOL, people were going missing, etc. it was some form of vigilante justice, likely focused on Snape because he was the easiest one to target. 2. Because James didn’t like his dynamic with Lily. 3. Because Sirius was just…Cruel. He thought it was entertaining. 4. Because Snape was LITERALLY STALKING THEM.

Now, I won’t lie and say Snape’s social status didn’t play a part.

They wouldn’t have been able to get away with as much if he was a wealthy pureblood. Now, do I think this is THE REASON they hate him? No, not really. But he had no outside family to demand reparations like other wannabe death eaters likely did.

If they chose one of the wealthier ones, there would be much more fallout.

Snape apologists genuinely PMO though. Like, the ENTIRE SCHOOL PLUS THE FACULTY were bullying him?

I get James and Sirius were rich kids. But A CROWD OF STUDENTS would not have cheered them on and participated and laughed just because they’re rich.

Students with no relation.

We can see from McGonagoll in the future that favor isn’t just given to the rich.

She wouldn’t have just looked the other way, unless it was because he was QUITE LITERALLY SECTUMSEMPRAING PEOPLE.

A spell, mind you, THAT CAN KILL PEOPLE. That slices and dices them up.

Levicorpus was SNAPE’S SPELL. A spell Snape likely made for his wannabe death eater buddies to torment muggleborns.

And before you say ‘Snape’s a halfblood he can’t be wizard racist’!

He 1000% can.

And just because he’s poor, halfblooded, and a victim of abuse doesn’t mean he’s exempt from consequence.

I know many people in his situation. I know mixed race kids who grew up broke in abusive households that never joined extremist racist factions. I know many people who are mixed and racist to something they’re mixed with.

It’s possible. It can happen.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO valid reason to join the equivalent of the NAZI PARTY unless you were forced, and even then…There’s still the question if you’re exempt from consequence.

Snape was very obviously not forced, AND he was inner circle.

That says so much.

So, yeah, Snape wasn’t a victim.

But The Marauders weren’t exactly saints either. HOWEVER, they’re far more justified in this situation, imo, than Snape is. (But still, like I said, not pure little angels.)

So, yeah. Snape apologists can argue with me all they want, I don’t care. And Marauders apologists trying to exempt them of any sort of nuance/accountability are weird.

Point blank.

(Note: The Marauders WERE NOT perfect. Like I’ve stated, they can be very cruel. And Remus and Peter WERE NOT much better than James and Sirius. And I’m not saying they didn’t have more privilege/privilege, because THEY DID. But this conflict isn’t just ‘Poor halfblood vs. rich purebloods’.)

The way I imagine their house (middle class)! I think Tonks is always throwing things around and Remus is always cleaning up. It's always either a mess or completely clean. I see warm lighting and old furniture, they live closer to the countryside. I think teddy would be interested in comic books and video games and nymphadora would collect something

Bro sits there at a lil auror party watching his wife get talked up by one of her subordinates like “ah he’s way more attractive than me AND he’s got a great future; Tonks should be with someone like that, not me :/“ bc hes still insecure as shit despite being married for like five years and having a kid with her.

Meanwhile Tonks is on the other side of the room, getting bothered, using her left hand far more than she usually would (“hello, there’s a ring, idiot”) and preparing to yell at Remus later for not coming to rescue her.

In the last couple of days I’ve seen too many (nine, I actually counted) posts on here + tiktok + a pretty long rant that now is deleted on reddit on why golden rich boy James (and the Potters in general) can’t be brown.

No, but actually, it’s not that hard to do a google search, open a wikipedia page or read some articles (like this one) (not the best one but you get the point).

Indians from both Asia and Africa (as well as other denominations of brown and Black folks) that came in the first and second “waves” of migration of the last century were in part middle to upper class (not all, but some), and most of the Arabic families were either refugees, political refugees (yes, that’s something else) or quite frankly upper-upper middle class.

Also most of them worked in public spaces making them at least middle class even in the less privileged areas of the country.

And yes, some Indian families were on the line of poverty unfortunately, that’s also true.

But it’s still not a reason to spread the misinformation that all POC are, for the lack of better terms, poor or, worse, uneducated, unemployed and uncivilised — because that’s what you are really saying when you say a rich and popular boy in the 1970s couldn’t possibly be brown or even Black.

Not saying the Potters can’t be fully white, just saying they also can be fully brown. (and actually the most logical would be that they are North African Arabs).

I will agree that it’s a bit of a reach to say they are Latina (but actually could be Spanish/Portuguese).

Tbh at this point just say you can’t see a well liked teenage boy as anything other than Western white — because that’s what a lot of you are implying.
