I don't really ever use Tumblr for advertising. But so many of the questions that come in about writing and plotting are answered in much more depth in my Masterclass. (Yes, you have to pay. They have also been answered here on Tumblr and over on my blog for free, but you will have to find them.)
It's been one of the most popular Masterclasses since its release in 2019, and these days I get to hear from people who published books and blame me, which is nice.
So consider this a rare commercial, mostly because it may actually make life easier for some of you.

hey, neil! my sister didnt realize that crowley and aziraphale were in love until the last episode and the scene where he confesses. then she asked me why you went "the gay route" what do i say to her? i love crowley and aziraphale a lot btw
You could perhaps suggest that she watches it all again, and it may make more sense to her.

What are yours and Amanda's Myers Briggs types? I really appreciate both of you as artists and, as someone who generally geeks over cognitive theories, I'm really interested in learning about how two creative power-houses relate to each other as artists, as friends, and as spouses. Also, on a side note, I feel sort of like your child will one day rule the earth.
No idea what Amanda is. I took it a year ago and was INFJ, but never actually went and looked up what that meant.
I fully expect our child to rebel, in the way that children do, and become an accountant or an oceanographer rather than a writer, performer or Earth-ruler.

If you didnt pander to trans/gays you'd have zero fans because your writing sucks.
I'm sure you're right. But that means there must be tens of millions of trans and gay people reading my books and comics. And I'm good with that.

Well. I wrote 1 draft of a book. I might come back to it someday but I’m gonna try to move on to the next for now.
Hello, Mr. Gaiman. Fat chance you'll see this, but do you have any advice for aspiring trad authors? I wanna be peak successful. Really leave my mark on the writing community & the world. How would I go about doing that? Could you break it down in, say, ten steps? Or perhaps just share some words of wisdom?
1) write your own books. Don't try to be like anyone else.
2) Write your own books. When you finish writing a book, start the next one.
3) Write your own books. Don't worry about the rest of the writing community only about yourself and what you make
4) write your own books. It's not a competition.
5) write your own books. Say the things only you can say.
6) Write your own books. Don't get bogged down in the commercial success or failure of a book in the long term. All that matters is the artistic success or failure of what you made.
7) Write your own books all the way to the end. So many frustrated and failed writers don't get through step one, where they finish writing books people might want to read.
8) write your own books.

Hi, Neil.
I know you get a lot of asks, so maybe you won't even see this. But I'll give it a try anyway.
I haven't been doing well lately. I lost my friends due to the end of the school year (we all had to split up due to the fact we had to go to secondary school and none of us picked the same one), I'm trans and my parents never validate me no matter how much I try. I always try my best to be the perfect son™️, but apparently it's never enough.
So, since you're such a great father figure to probably all good omens fans, I suppose my question is, could you tell me I'm good enough? I just kind of need to hear it right now.
Thank you.
Have a nice day/night :)
I'm a lousy father figure, I suspect. It's definitely not anything I signed up for.
But you're absolutely good enough!
You'll never be perfect, because perfect isn't a thing in this world. It's an ideal. Accept that you'll never be enough, but remember that you aren't in the world for them, you're here for you.

Saw a bottle cap walking into work this morning…I took its picture. It made me late but I didn’t want to be rude. They’re simply a tourist wanting a picture with the mountains…we followed each other on the socials and bid one another adieu.

The main floor of the Harold Washington Library Center, Chicago's big flagship downtown public library, has a wall of photos of various famous writers who have visited. Whenever I walk through on my way to the study rooms, I see the photos and think to myself, "Why is Tumblr cryptid and internet friend-to-all Neil Gaiman's giant photo on the wall of the library?"
Then I remind myself that's a silly thing to ask.
Everyone knows Neil Gaiman has no social media.

He's a wonderful existant
Smol snippet of Jon Hamm reading the Good Omens excerpt at the The Art of Elysium’s 2024 Heaven Gala, 6.1.2024 :) ❤ (I hope we will get it all one day! :) <3)
Jon: From a little story called Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, by Terry Pratchett and our own Neil Gaiman.
The angel waved a hand expansively, if a little unsteadily. "Loads of buggerall, dear boy."
"But it gets there anyway," Crowley persevered.
"How?"
"It doesn't matter!"
"It could use a space ship," said the angel.
Crowley subsided a bit. "Yeah," he said. "If you like. Anyway, this bird—"
"Only it is the end of the universe we're talking about," said Aziraphale. "So it'd have to be one of those space ships where your descendants are the ones who get out at the other end. You have to tell your descendants, you say, When you get to the Mountain, you've got to—" He hesitated.

Balloons, they launch at lunchtime...
Not in the afternoon.
Neither do they at breakfast,
For that is far too soon.
We go in greater numbers,
When we have time to wake
And under/after darkness,
We sleep...
FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

Reddit poetry
I've found myself recently on REDDIT commenting on OCpoetry posts. I enjoy poetry for a few weeks every year and then I lose interest just like most of my activities in life. I'll be interested in this for a month, maybe two and then I'll completely forget about and have trouble relating to the things that I wrote down during this time in what I refer to as one of my, 'manias'. I call them that because I form interests in activities in a cyclical manner. And while I'm in one of the manias I hang on them as my identity and potential salvation because ultimately, I don't know who I am or what I enjoy because it changes so often.
I was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago and I think that some of this is a symptom of that but I'm not sure how much and it doesn't really matter; it's just something that I've noticed.
