Doctor Who at the start of the 70s is about Drag King Action Science Hero fighting Lovecraftian horrors with the military, and Doctor Who at the end of the 70s is about two bitchy immortal wizards and their magic computer dog wandering through space having a larf and hashing out their divorce.

The rewatch of Series 12's finale was pretty spectacular. Easier to follow when I have the whole picture of that era.

I'm chuckling that I really didn't follow that Tecteun was the Irish Man that found the baby. Even when they showed the parallels that just didn't register in my brain. Like, when he looked at Brenden after the fall? The fact he didn't age along with him? Felt like we missed a scene or two in editing tbh. Even as I make the link, my brain is still like ...but Tecteun was getting real method until that point. Lol

Also Spymaster hoping/gambling that the death particle would just go off when he miniaturized Ashad from near point-blank range was a really well acted and written moment. The rage, the pain...the Master is actually just flailing; hoping for oblivion.

Great stuff. The Doctor also flew a Tardis that landed as a tree. Fun to remind us these machines are actually meant to blend in not stick out like a sore thumb across all of time and space. 🤭

Y'all remember that Ryan Sinclair encouraged his best friend to seek therapy? He saw how lonely his friend was and he was determined to help him in the only way he could before hopping back onto the Tardis.

Even in its smaller moments and lesser talked-about episodes...Thirteen's era was so deeply compassionate.

Here I was remembering Can You Hear Me before this rewatch of mine for the fingers lodged in people's ears while they had nightmares and I was laughing about it. They still had fun with that part but they used the rest of that episode to write a love letter to humanity.

Yaz wanting to give up and the vagueness they approached that moment with opens the proverbial door for us to see ourselves in her spot no matter who we are; scared, angry, desperate. Someone came along and believed in her. She finds that woman and gives her the coin they bet on her that day. God that moment made me cry. That was so beautiful.

Graham even just sharing his fear of remission with the Doctor is a lovely moment. The Doctor didn't know what could be said to truly reassure someone that such a fate didn't await them but Graham and the Doctor have such a rapport...albeit subtle it's still present. Graham was comforted to know she'd heard him and wanted to help. No words were going to make those fears go away. But her intent to help in spite of that is still communicated and understood. Graham's quiet laugh acknowledges so much.

I would be so bold as to say, the writing is what helped those subtle moments shine. They were intentional and thematic in their character development.

Thinking about Lux again. Specifically when they broke the fourth wall. Ignoring that this never became anything by season's end (lol add that to the list of critiques).

The Whovian Fanbase existing within the same universe as the Doctor themself would be such a mess.

Imagine you met the Doctor and you're like "omg guys you'll never believe what traumatizing horrors I just witnessed" and the entire Internet is just like "that episode sucked".

The Doctor shot Omega with a time gun because there was no rationalizing with him. The Rani had planned this moment with intricate zeal all to be eaten in the snap of a finger.

Honestly, there's closure in seeing that he originally wanted to make up a different timelord. Because that was not Omega.

Lol also his history changed because of the time war? Could you have shown that concept in any other way, Russell?
