Oh my God you have no idea how relatable that is holy shit
Having to go back and reread your own work to find that one innocuous detail you threw in that you know is there but you can’t remember it and don’t want to contradict it.

Yep. Just...yep.
Me writing the fun plot points of my story: I Love Writing.
Me writing the less fun but very important transitions, expositions, and technical points that make the plot possible: *inarticulate grumbling*

A great start for another #teenauthor! I’m excited to see what she comes up with.
The Star and the Shadow: Chapter 1 Excerpt
Note: All excerpts will be first draft only, but please still refrain from plagiarism. Also, if anything seems confusing or unclear or info-dumpy, then you know why!
Darkness embraced me, as I snuck out of the house.
Waking up my sleeping parents wasn’t hard. After countless times of slipping in and out, you learn how to master stealth. Nighttime also wasn’t a backstabber. Pitch-blackness was quiet and cold, offering safety in the shadows with no judgment or questions asked—welcoming and understanding. It was a real friend.
The wind tapped me, once I pulled aside the flowing curtains and cracked the window open. Numbness traveled up my hands and arms, while I pushed up, and my teeth chattered. The glass was partially frozen into the pane, so it lifted slower than I liked. Soft groans sounded here and there, but it wasn’t enough to cause a disturbance.

January 2019 Writing Goals
I suppose I should leave my goals out to the public. Gross. Anyway, I only have one goal for this month, which is finishing the sequel to THE SKINWALKER, which is THE MASQUERADE. The Adams & Williams series is my baby, and shall be raised.
But no one has a perfect childhood. *cracks fingers* let the games begin.

Me, attempting to write my second book: this can't possibly be harder than the first one. It's all the same characters, and world after all!
Me, six chapters away from finishing the book: ...this is ten times harder than the first. What the actual fuck, you're the same damn characters!

I think it’s important to support your local underwriter writers, overwriter writers, two-draft writers, seven draft writers, didn’t outline a single thing writers, literally outlined every single thing, small volume writers, big volume writers, writers who write every day, writers who write twice a month, literary writers, commercial genre writers, writers who are authors, writers who are aspiring authors, just writers in general!

NaNoWriMo 2018 may be over, but we’re still thinking about what we’ve learned along the way.
During last week’s Virtual Write-In, we asked NaNo participants about the lessons they’ve learned over the course of November—about writing, community, and themselves—and compiled them into a handy infographic for you.
What did you learn during NaNoWriMo 2018?

I didn’t make my NaNo goals this year, didn’t break 40k, let alone 50k, but who cares. At the end of the day, you’re at least one word closer to getting the shit done. Don’t let an abstract number stop you now!
(Hell, if I did, I wouldn’t be an author. After all, most 18 year olds aren’t published authors working on their second novel in a series. Numbers are merely things you should use to push you forwards. They aren’t something you let drag you behind. So keep moving, my buckaroo, because you’ll get where you’re going.)
Fell Short of 50K? Give Yourself Some Credit — Then Keep Going!

Another November has come and gone; while some of you are celebrating the completion of 50,000 words, some of you didn’t make it quite as far as you’d have liked. Today, writer Adrianne DeWeese shares some words of encouragement about continuing to write, whether or not you met your word-count goal this year:
November has always been a month of great promise for me. It’s the eve of one of the busiest months of the year, before the calendar page turns for the final time that year. It is a month of thanks, of renewed hope. As one of my all-time favorite bands, Jimmy Eat World, summarized it so eloquently in their 2004 album title track “Futures”:
I always believed in futures I hope for better In November.
I held onto that same sense of promise and optimism this year going into my first-ever NaNoWriMo experience. Unfortunately, a brief bout of seasonal sinus issues found me bedridden during my spare time for two weeks.
It was certainly frustrating, as I was hell-bent on reaching that 1,667 minimum daily word count. I knew I had to take care of myself, though, so I asked myself what the alternatives were: I did what I could to continue chipping away at my bucket-list goal of one day writing a book.
