It was Jaime, he thought, despairing. He was my own blood, my big strong brother. When I was small he brought me toys, barrel hoops and blocks and a carved wooden lion. He gave me my first pony and taught me how to ride him. When he said that he had bought you for me, I never doubted him. Why would I?

I’ve akways wanted to know what kind of things do you think varys told Cersei to make her think he was her bestie? And what do you think caused her to realised he wasn’t? “He played the same game with me, when I first wed Robert. For years, I was convinced I had no truer friend at court, but now…””
the bar for Cersei to have a "true friend" is lower than the last circle of hell, so I really do think he was just "That is so true your grace" to literally anything she said. The other traitorous sycophants and lickspittles were quaking anytime he was around. Along with licking her boots and hyping up her fits he was obviously supplying her with secrets and intel that seemed important to her but not really of that much consequence to him (or the people the secrets were about were considered a necessary sacrifice to get himself closer to her)
She probably realized it when she noticed that someone else was in possession of information Varys had given her, that she thought she was privy to. She literally tells Tyrion "You think you're the only one he whispers secrets to? He gives each of us just enough to convince us that we'd be helpless without him."
It probably takes her several years into her marriage to realize this bc the lioness does not concern herself with self awareness.

Sweets
My second drawing in the asoiaf-minor-character-sketchbook which is also my I-wish-these-characters-would-be-in-the-show-sketchbook.
I don’t know why but sweets is one of the characters that I always cheer for when they appear. One of the main reasons I like her is probably her confidence about being intersex and that she just flashed Tyrion out of nowhere.
#sweets#i love her#we'll probably never find out for certain what happens to her#but i hope she's going to be ok#anyway i love what you did with her profile/nose shape its really lovely

Jaquen H’ghar. The Faceless Man, Lorath, The Alchemist, Pate. “The Red God has his due, sweet girl. And only death may pay for life… Speak the names, and a man will do the rest.” - Jaquen H’ghar This was a tidy little model to put together. I hemmed and hawed over how to reflect his two-tone hair, eventually settling for a paint that implied bleached interior locks. Also enjoyed the use of earth tones and the splash of blue to indicate his occasional allegiance to the Starks.

the most Eldest Daughter thing Catelyn Stark ever does is when the Terrible Family Secret is revealed and she finds out about the secret abortion that her dad forced on her little sister, her response is to write to her sister and ask her to forgive him.

Anyone else want to talk about weird underground Faith of the Seven sects? I've been dying to talk about weird underground Faith of the Seven sects.
Anyway, there is definitely a cult of Stranger worship among (to use a modern term) queer people in Westeros.

i've been mulling over severine a lot recently. i want to pick a profession for her that could support her and arlan in the free cities which requires doing some historical research, and i want to pick an actual specific city for them to live in, and i've been really enjoying writing about the parallels in their relationship after arlan's injury with their relationship during sev's marriage and their role reversals there.
sev is important to me as a character who spent too much of her one wild and precious life waiting to be saved. waiting for some sort of foolproof and miraculous intervention to change her circumstances in exactly the way they needed changing. and then for a while she thinks she was a fool for not letting arlan save her earlier, since clearly he could have whisked her away before even her first child. they could have been together all along!! she should have left with him the very first time he asked her to go!! she should have had faith in him!!
but really it's severine who ends up providing for the both of them for the rest of their lives together. so her fault was not a lack of faith in arlan, but in herself!! and she needed all that time that she spent doubting and waiting to build up enough of that to take the leap.
arlan has always known that severine was the one to save him, and his injury is devestating to him in an ego-death kind of way because for him their brief window of freedom was finally being able to repay sev for all that she did for him by being the one to rescue her. and then after waiting all those years to have her as his wife and build a home with her she was suddenly his full time nurse and caregiver, instead.
but severine of course sees arlan as her savior!! she was her guardian, protector, avenging angel. he was all the rage and violence and failure she could never claim for herself, and all the tenderness and care she never had from her husband. and when he's injured and ill she sees a chance, finally!!! to care for and rescue him the way he did her.
but, really (and i'm not certain if severine would ever come to this conclusion on her own) it was severine who saved arlan from the very beginning. she just needed all that time to save herself as well before she could carry them both through.
and i'm happy that that's a journey she could go on with arlan even if it was ultimately oriented around her own growth (<- i know that i control the buttons i press but you know how it is with ocs. they go in their own directions i'm just along for the ride.)

someone said on my cersei right-wing grifter post that she would be an antivaxer and like I don't think so but sure makes sense but do you know who would ABSOLUTELY be an antivaxer?
lysa. tully. arryn.
I just KNOW she would blame her son's sickness on vaccines. like while jon was there he kept her mostly sane but after he dies she just goes tin hat and becomes this big germophobe who doesn't let her son do ANYTHING while holding the most regressive pseudoscientific medical beliefs in the book and believing she can cure sweetrobin's epilepsy with like green tea or some super sus handcream she saw on the Internet that is probably gonna give him mercury poisoning.
cat had to block her on social media because she kept sending her insane ai generated videos and saying arya's adhd meds were making her gay or something. it catches her completely by surprise because. sure. lysa has always been a bit strange but she was not like THAT. she was even kinda close with gay uncle brynden!
when edmure announces his wife is expecting she sends them this weird e-book with a poorly designed cover talking about the link between vaccines and autism and the whole family tries to do an intervention because she has gone completely insane over the course of like. a year. and where the fuck is this coming from lysa you were not like that!
and then a few months later she brings her crypto bro podcaster boyfriend petyr baelish over for sevenmas and everyone is like
oh
#also a big fan of the tag on this post thats like robb starts E and lysa loses whats left of her mind#lysa with petyr#lysa arryn#petyr baelish#catelyn with lysa#modern

A Game of Thrones, Daenerys III
Even the nights brought no relief.
Khal Drogo ignored her when they rode, even as he had ignored her during their wedding, and spent his evenings drinking with his warriors and bloodriders, racing his prize horses, watching women dance and men die.
Dany had no place in these parts of his life.
She was left to sup alone, or with Ser Jorah and her brother, and afterward to cry herself to sleep.
Yet every night, some time before the dawn, Drogo would come to her tent and wake her in the dark, to ride her as relentlessly as he rode his stallion.
He always took her from behind, Dothraki fashion, for which Dany was grateful; that way her lord husband could not see the tears that wet her face, and she could use her pillow to muffle her cries of pain.
When he was done, he would close his eyes and begin to snore softly and Dany would lie beside him, her body bruised and sore, hurting too much for sleep.
