Just an FYI for all of the tourists that visit my home state of Michigan: Our lakes have rip currents JUST AS POWERFUL AS THE ONES THAT HAPPEN IN THE OCEAN.
If you have never seen one of the Great Lakes you cannot possibly imagine how gargantuan these beasts are. They are nothing like your lakes at home, they don't behave like your lakes at home. They can have 20 foot waves at the shores, rip currents, the piers can become death traps where waves crashing over them WILL drag you in.
People die every year because they don't respect the lakes, much like the ocean. Botton line: Don't be a dumbass, do your research.
As someone that has grown up surrounded by beaches and done surf life saving, I know how the sea works. Lots of people dont. Every summer multiple tourists die here because they don’t respect the sea, if you’re going to the coast, here’s a thing I saw on Facebook.
